My guest for Episode #539 of the Lean Blog Interviews Podcast is Darren Walsh, author of Making Lean and Continuous Improvement Work: A Leader's Guide to Increasing Consistency and Getting Significantly More Done in Less Time. Episode page with video, transcript, and more Darren is the Director and Leadership Coach at Making Lean Work Ltd and holds a master's degree from the Lean Enterprise Research Centre at Cardiff University. He brings more than 25 years of experience helping leaders transform organizations in automotive, aerospace, medical devices, energy, and healthcare. In this episode, Darren and Mark explore why so many Lean and continuous improvement programs fail to sustain—and how leaders can build the right systems and habits to make improvement last. Darren explains the three common pitfalls he's seen across industries: choosing the wrong improvement approach, relying on traditional “solution thinking,” and lacking consistent leadership routines. Darren also introduces his DAMI model—Define, Achieve, Maintain, Improve—as a way for organizations to avoid “kaizening chaos” and instead create a stable foundation for improvement. He shares stories from across sectors, including healthcare examples where better standards and daily management led to faster care, higher throughput, and dramatically lower mortality rates. Mark and Darren discuss the difference between problem-solving and firefighting, the danger of “shiny Lean” initiatives that don't address core issues, and the leadership routines that keep everyone aligned and focused on the right problems. The conversation offers a grounded reminder that Lean isn't about tools or jargon—it's about building consistency, clarity, and capability throughout the organization. “You can't kaizen chaos. First, you have to define and stabilize the standard.” “Most organizations say they want improvement—but they haven't built the routines to sustain it.” “If every team in your business is working on the right problem, that's an incredibly powerful organization.” “Firefighting feels heroic, but it hides the real causes and keeps us from solving them.” Questions, Notes, and Highlights: What's your Lean origin story? How did you first get introduced to Lean and continuous improvement? You've worked across industries—from electronics to oil and gas. How do you overcome the “we're different” resistance when applying Lean in new settings? Why do some organizations still associate Lean with cost-cutting instead of learning and improvement? What led you to write Making Lean and Continuous Improvement Work? What problems were you seeing again and again? Can you explain the three common pitfalls you describe in the book? What is the DAMI model—Define, Achieve, Maintain, Improve—and how can leaders use it effectively? How can organizations build a strong foundation for improvement before jumping into tools like 5S or Kaizen? What are the essential leadership routines for sustaining Lean and consistency? Why do so many teams fall into firefighting mode, and how can leaders break that habit? How can visual management and daily management systems help teams focus on the right problems? How do you balance working on small employee-driven Kaizen improvements versus larger, strategic problems? You've said, “You can't Kaizen chaos.” What does that mean in practice? What lessons from the healthcare case study—cutting waiting times by 88%—stand out most to you? How can leaders ensure alignment and help every team work on the right things? What's next for your work and research? What will your next book focus on? This podcast is part of the #LeanCommunicators network.

Hey there, and welcome back to The D Shift: Redefining Divorce And Beyond! In this episode, your host Mardi Winder sits down with Charles Jamieson, a seasoned attorney who's spent over 40 years navigating the ups and downs of family and marital law. Based in West Palm Beach, Charles Jamieson isn't only an expert in high-conflict divorce but also specializes in helping individuals protect themselves and their futures through prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. If you think prenups are only for the rich and famous, think again! Mardi and Charlie are here to set the record straight, explaining how modern prenups can be practical, thoughtful, and even empowering for couples at every stage. Charlie gets real about why these agreements matter, especially for second marriages (spoiler alert: divorce rates are higher the second time around), and how tough money conversations upfront can save you years of headaches and a whole lot of cash down the road.Together, they dive into some of the most frequently asked questions, like whether prenups can cover things like child custody, what happens if a big inheritance or lottery win comes along, and what you actually need to bring to your attorney to get the process started. They also explore postnups, why some couples choose them after marriage, and how both types of agreements can fit into bigger conversations around aging, illness, or blending families.About the Guest:Charles D. Jamieson is the founder and driving force behind The Law Firm of Charles D. Jamieson, P.A., with over 40 years of experience in marital and family law. Myra Salzer shares her own story of switching careers to financial planning, and how she ended up specializing in helping people who find themselves with unexpected wealth and all the questions that brings. The conversation opens up about how easy it is to make quick decisions when money first arrives—like splurging on things you never thought you'd buy—and how that can sometimes lead to regrets later on. Myra Salzer breaks down the different stages people often go through, starting from not quite believing what's happened, to slowly learning how to manage their money, and eventually feeling confident and in control. They discuss common worries, like wondering how much is safe to spend, sorting out taxes, and most importantly, figuring out who you can trust to guide you. Both Mardi Winder and Myra Salzer highlight how building a good financial team is about more than just numbers; it's about supporting your values and making sure your money helps you live the life you want.If the topic hits home for you, you'll be glad to hear Myra Salzer offers a free consultation and a short coaching program to help you get started. In this episode, Mardi Winder has a really interesting chat with Amanda Steadman, who's spent more than two decades helping women find confidence and independence after divorce. Amanda brings both her personal story and her professional expertise, talking about how early experiences with family loss shaped her outlook and set her on a path to unravel the connection between our minds and bodies. She shares honest reflections about navigating a tough breakup herself, after realizing her relationship wasn't truly making her happy, even if it looked good from the outside. Through a mix of hypnotherapy, NLP, and energy work, Amanda Steadman helps women work through old patterns, like feeling unworthy or stuck, so they can move forward and start fresh. A major takeaway from the conversation is how common it is for women to worry about being “enough” after their relationships end, and the importance of letting go of childhood beliefs that might be holding them back.Amanda and Mardi touch on how important it is to take a breather after a breakup, figure out what you really want, and stop repeating the same patterns. Amanda encourages listeners to embrace their true selves and reminds everyone that you're only one thought away from stepping into a new, more confident version of yourself. For those looking for a little extra inspiration, she's also offering her “Awaken the Goddess Within” meditation for free, which is just a bit of added support to help you on your journey, no matter where you are in the process!About the Guest:Uncertain, and stuck. One of the great myths of a modern career is that you have to choose just one path. My guest today, Jessica Wan, is living proof that you absolutely don't. Her career has taken her from leading marketing teams at world-renowned organisations like Apple and the San Francisco Opera, to becoming a sought-after executive coach. And running parallel to all of this, she is a classically trained singer preparing for her next recital. She champions a philosophy she calls 'The Ampersand Manifesto', which celebrates people who connect multiple passions and professions. It's a really inspiring chat about embracing all parts of who you are. And as a special treat, you will also hear a sneak peek at the end of the conversation from Jessica's recital. She sings a song together with the audience that was popular everywhere in Taiwan in the 80s and 90s called 月亮代表我的心 – The Moon Represents My Heart. So, let's dive into the conversation. What does it mean to 'feel safe' at work? I interviewed 6 different women to find out! In today's episode I am exploring the complexities around feeling safe at work. I have spoken to six different women in their 30s and 40s, from a range of different industries, to understand better how they define the concept of 'safety'. Feeling safe and feeling free go hand in hand. Because if we're not safe to speak, lead, challenge, or just exist — then we're not free to succeed. To deliver at your best, both for you and your organisation, it's essential that you also feel secure: that people have your back, that you're supported no matter what, and that the office is genuinely a place to learn and grow. And critically that you can come to work feeling physically and emotionally safe to express yourself without judgment, penalty or harassment. Here are the 6 themes that emerged from my conversations, 'safety' is:Feeling free to be myself and to be authentic at workBeing able to assert myself without negative judgment and for my performance to be judged on meritGiven the space to speak, without being interruptedTo come to work without being harassedSharing vulnerabilities, or asking questions, without that being used against you laterBeing able to challenge or disagree without being labelled 'difficult'Rebecca on being labelled 'difficult' when asserting yourself:"A lot of women have this experience: it's a double edged sword: do I assert myself or do I tone it down for fear of coming across as 'overly emotional' or 'aggressive'? It would be rare for men to be judged and labelled in the same way women are." (Rebecca Allen, host - Her Ambitious Career Podcast)Rebecca on feeling unsafe:"Feeling unsafe can compromise your values like authenticity, respect, being valued and integrity. And if you don't feel safe, you might then procrastinate about how to manage the situation or how you could have responded more effectively. Clearly, feeling unsafe at work affects productivity and the bottom line too. This week I go solo to reflect on my 10-week sabbatical and how it reshaped 2025 and even 2026. I share four core lessons, creating rhythms that make rest possible, trusting your team and processes, discerning rather than just deciding, and refusing to journey alone. I open up about falling back in love with ordinary life on the family farm and the clarity that followed. In this episode, host Mardi Winder welcomes Dr. Robin Buckley, Ph.D., an expert in clinical psychology with a specialty in cognitive behavioral methodology and executive coaching. Together, they explore the power of applying clear, practical strategies and goal-setting to both marriage and divorce. Dr. Robin shares insights from her years of experience, reflecting on the transition from traditional therapy, focused on intervention and healing from past wounds, to her current emphasis on proactive coaching that builds toward a meaningful and intentional future. The discussion unpacks the differences between coaching and therapy, noting that coaching helps clients focus on what they can control in the present to create the future they want. Dr. Robin explains how our brains often become stuck in reactive patterns during the stress of divorce, making logical decision-making difficult. She suggests that by engaging the prefrontal cortex, people can step away from the "fight, flight, or freeze" response and approach divorce with clarity and strategic thinking.A central theme of the conversation is the concept of a "mission statement for divorce." Dr. Robin helps clients articulate what they want life to look like after divorce, whether it involves successful co-parenting, remaining friends, or setting firm boundaries for a clean break. Rather than simply aiming to finalize the legal process, couples are encouraged to envision their goals for their lives beyond the separation. This mission statement serves as a guiding compass throughout the process, helping couples navigate conflict and remain focused on respectful outcomes even in tense moments. The episode also touches on changing trends, with more people, especially in younger generations, seeking collaborative and multidisciplinary approaches to divorce. Dr. Robin shares her excitement about these supportive models, which often include financial advisors, therapists, and legal professionals working as a team. In closing, Dr. Robin introduces her new book, Marriage Incorporated, which brings strategic planning and business principles into the realm of relationships, offering readers practical tools to create stronger foundations and improve communication in both marriage and divorce.About the Guest:Dr. Robin Buckley holds a PhD in clinical psychology with specialized training in cognitive behavioral methodology and executive coaching. Through her data-driven, strategic coaching model, she helps individuals, couples, and organizations achieve personal and professional goals. Her expertise has been featured by Entrepreneur, Chief, Nike, and TED. Robin's coaching empowers clients to move beyond insight into actionable, lasting success. To connect with Dr. Robin:Website: https://drrobinbuckley.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drrobinbuckley/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-robin-buckley/About the Host: Mardi Winder is an ICF and BCC Executive and Leadership Coach, Certified Divorce Transition Coach, Certified Divorce Specialist (CDS®) and a Credentialed Distinguished Mediator in Texas. Today, Mardi Winder welcomes Jenni Rock, an author, speaker, and coach specializing in helping parents recover from toxic co-parenting breakdowns. The discussion focuses on the often-overlooked impact of divorce on children when one parent displays toxic or manipulative behaviors. Drawing from her personal experience, Jenni speaks candidly about the emotional challenges and long-term effects these situations can have on children, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and addressing harmful patterns before they become deeply rooted.Jenni outlines some of the common behaviors parents face in these circumstances, ranging from false allegations to parental alienation and gaslighting, and highlights how children can inadvertently become tools in ongoing conflicts. Throughout the episode, she offers insightful strategies for communication and boundary-setting, advocating for practical approaches such as limited, essential messaging, neutral handovers, and using technology to minimize emotional confrontation.Mardi and Jenni also touch on the delicate balance of honesty and emotional safety when speaking with children affected by conflict and negative influences. Jenni stresses the importance of fostering open dialogue without placing blame, and encouraging children to feel secure sharing their feelings. For parents who have lost access to their children due to toxicity or manipulation, Jenni suggests ways to heal from trauma and stay connected, including keeping a log or email account for messages to be shared later in life.About the Guest:Jenni Rock is a Co-Parenting without Conflict expert with four years of experience. Jenni has been instrumental in helping divorced parents exit toxic relationships and redefine their communication patterns to prioritize the needs of their children. Having gone through a marriage littered with Domestic Abuse, manipulation, gaslighting and coercive behaviour became the norm. Her separation from her ex was very traumatic not only for her but for her son who was age 3 at the time. When Jenni finally instated strong boundaries to protect herself and her son, there was an explosion of abuse which then had to be addressed using Police support and support not only for Jenni but for her son too. Her son became very poorly as a result of the complex PTSD, and Jenni had to contend with trying to work, support her son, and heal herself all at the same time. Episode 160: Michael Trugman & Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan CainABOUT MIKEMike Trugman is a Life and Leadership Coach who helps people move from fear to fulfillment—building lives rooted in purpose, passion, and authenticity. Through his work, Mike supports clients in reconnecting with their inner compass so they can show up more fully in every area of life, both personally and professionally. Mike is also the host of Mike's Search for Meaning, a top 3% podcast dedicated to exploring what it truly means to be human. His conversations dive deep into transformation, vulnerability, and the inner work required to live a life aligned with who we really are. Mike's own journey is proof of what's possible. He once felt paralyzed by self-doubt—so anxious about speaking in meetings that his body would shake. With time, courage, and consistency, he not only found his voice—he built a life around helping others find theirs too. Before stepping into coaching and podcasting, Mike spent over a decade in public accounting, specializing in financial services clients like hedge funds and private equity firms. For years, Jane Chen, co-founder of Embrace Global, embodied that belief. Her social enterprise, born out of Stanford, created a life-saving, low-cost baby incubator for premature and underweight infants in regions without reliable electricity. Today, Embrace has reached over one million babies worldwide—a staggering achievement. But behind that success, Jane faced a personal reckoning. As she recounts in her new memoir, Like a Wave We Break, her drive to serve others came at a cost. “I was beyond burned out,” she shared. “After ten years, I just did not see a path forward.” The collapse of a long-awaited acquisition left her organization in crisis, and Jane herself in emotional ruin. Seeking healing, she packed a suitcase and a surfboard and embarked on a global journey to rediscover her strength. What she found reshaped her understanding of resilience. “For so long, I thought resilience meant pushing through, pushing harder,” she said. “What I really learned is that resilience means slowing down and having compassion for ourselves.” It was a revelation that transformed how she leads and lives. Her story resonates deeply with those working in impact, where passion often eclipses personal well-being. Jane's journey reminds us that the sustainability of missions depends on the sustainability of those who lead them. “If we don't care for ourselves first,” she said, “we're not really investing in the longevity of our organizations or the impact we want to make.”Jane's experience highlights an essential truth for social entrepreneurs and changemakers alike: healing isn't the opposite of impact—it's part of it. Through self-compassion, changemakers build the endurance to keep doing good for years to come. Her book offers both an intimate personal story and a roadmap for those struggling with burnout. Jane's lessons are not just about surviving adversity but transforming it into wisdom that sustains both purpose and peace. In today's world of relentless striving, her message could not be more timely.tl;dr:Jane Chen shared how Embrace Global's portable incubators saved over one million premature babies. She revealed how unresolved childhood trauma fueled her mission but led to extreme burnout.Jane explained how vulnerability transformed her leadership style and strengthened her team's connection. Her healing journey taught her that resilience means slowing down and practicing self-compassion.Jane's superpower, love and tenacity, inspires sustainable leadership and impactful social change. How to Develop Love and Tenacity As a SuperpowerJane's superpower combines love and tenacity to drive her mission and personal growth. As she explained in today's episode, love has guided her best decisions—whether building Embrace Global with a passion for saving lives or extending compassion inward during her healing journey. Coupled with relentless tenacity, Jane has overcome obstacles, from manufacturing challenges to personal burnout, to create lasting impact. “When you put those things together, love and tenacity, you can get great results,” she shared. One story perfectly exemplifies Jane's superpower. Early in her leadership at Embrace, a premature baby in China weighing just two pounds was found abandoned on the street. The baby was placed in an Embrace incubator, where he thrived. Years later, Jane reunited with the boy—now healthy and adopted by a family in Chicago—when he visited her in Hawaii. This powerful moment, she said, embodied the love and determination that sustained her 16-year journey with Embrace. To cultivate love and tenacity, Jane suggests:Pause and Listen to Your Heart: Step away from the noise and reflect on what truly drives you.Practice Self-Compassion: Care for yourself as you would for others to sustain your work long-term.Embrace Vulnerability: Lead authentically by sharing your emotions and creating space for others to do the same.Pursue Relentlessly: Stay determined, even when challenges arise, and seek out the resources you need.By following Jane's example and advice, you can make love and tenacity a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileJane Chen (she/her):Author, Leadership Coach, Speaker & Co-Founder, EmbraceAbout Embrace Global: Embrace Global developed a groundbreaking infant incubator that has now helped to save over 1 million babies around the world. In this episode, Mardi Winder welcomes Karen McNenny for a conversation about how divorce doesn't have to be a destructive ordeal. Karen, who works as a mediator, divorce coach, and host of the Good Divorce Show Podcast, brings her own experience and her work with families to the table. She talks openly about how her own divorce shaped her career path and her belief that divorce can be handled thoughtfully and kindly, especially when kids are involved.Karen explains how the usual approach to separation, immediately involving lawyers and preparing for conflict, rarely serves families well. Instead, she advocates for reaching out to coaches and mediators first, and focusing on clear, honest communication before making big decisions, especially those involving children. Her Good Divorce Experience program helps families figure out critical next steps, from breaking the news to kids, working out living arrangements, co-parenting plans, and even involving trusted professionals when needed. Karen highlights the importance of setting the tone right from the start and ensuring everyone involved, children, teachers, friends, and family, is on the same page.Mardi and Karen also talk candidly about the intense emotions that come with divorce, such as anger, grief, and disappointment. They reflect on why even couples who want an amicable split find themselves struggling with frustration, and how self-reflection and support can make a big difference. Karen reminds listeners that the goal isn't just to end a marriage, but to create a healthy new family structure that supports the kids and lets everyone move forward.About the Guest:A dynamic speaker with over two decades of experience commanding stages across the country, Karen brings both authenticity and authority to conversations about workplace culture, effective leadership and employee engagement. Frustration leads to inertia and anger and can derail your career. As a Career & Leadership Coach, clients share their frustrations with me daily and I'm here today to let you know you aren't alone in feeling frustrated... and that there is plenty you can do to regain control. In today's episode, I am exploring 7 of the most common FRUSTRATIONS clients come to me with surrounding their careers. We are talking about:Not getting ahead, despite achieving great results (and working so hard)Not making the impact you want to (either down to a lack of support or resource; or lacking purpose etc)A Values Mismatch between you and other people, or you and your organisationConstantly changing goal posts and KPIsMiscommunication (or just poor communication)Lacking visibility and a platformNot backing yourself, doubt, and frustration at your own lack of perceived progressSomething Rebecca said today:" Frustration really comes from a feeling of helplessness: feeling as if making things happen, or creating change, are just beyond your control. In this place, you're imagining a positive outcome that just isn't forthcoming - certainly not fast enough to meet your expectations. And that frustration intensifies the longer you remain stuck right? Regaining control and getting unstuck needs to be your first priority but how do you do that?“ (Rebecca Allen, host - Her Ambitious Career Podcast)Links:Listen to Rebecca's interview with Catherine Kennedy, MD of people2people recruitment: The Cost of Career Procrastination And this related episode: Ep 183 – STOP Playing in the Weeds & START Being Strategic About Your CareerGet Rebecca's free download: The 7 Habits of Female Execs Who Get PromotedBook a free 15-minute Career Strategy Call with Rebecca and build your credibility and visibility as a leaderRate, Review, & Follow our Show on Apple Podcasts:Also, if you haven't done so already, follow the podcast. In this episode, relationship coach Michelle Chung sits down with host Mardi Winder to share her perspective on finding happiness and love after divorce, especially for women who are feeling pressured to jump back into the dating scene. Michelle brings both professional experience as a love strategist and a very real, personal story. She talks about how her own divorce in her 30s, after an injury that forced her to slow down, became a turning point. Instead of immediately looking for a new partner, Michelle looked inward, studying kinesiology and mind-body medicine, and slowly discovered that her marriage didn't align with her true values anymore.Michelle walks listeners through what happened when she re-entered the dating world and realized that swiping through dating apps wasn't bringing her any closer to real happiness or fulfillment. She shares stories from her adventurous travels, her artistic pursuits, and all the ways she learned to trust her intuition rather than just doing what everyone expected. Michelle and Mardi talk about how easy it is to get caught up in society's message that you need to couple up quickly, and how empowering it can be to focus on your own purpose, your passions, and your personal growth instead. One of Michelle's key messages is that women, especially those who are successful and independent, don't need someone else to complete them. She encourages listeners, whether they're single by choice or by circumstance, not to settle for less or follow the old model of relationships. Instead, she recommends letting love come naturally as a result of living authentically and in alignment with yourself. For those interested in learning more, Michelle offers a free masterclass designed to help women reconnect with their inner guidance and attract the right people into their lives without the stress of dating apps.About the Guest:Michelle Chung is a Love Strategist for high achieving women entrepreneurs and professionals, the podcast host of 'Love,Life & Energy', bestselling author of 'How to Stop Dating & Be In A Committed, Effortless Relationship' serial entrepreneur, property investor and has hacked the process to finding the right man and relationship that supports your vision, career and lifestyle without dating or using online apps. For Michelle's gift: Free Masterclass 3 Steps to Meet Your Ideal partner without dating!: https://www.michellechungcoach.com/masterclassTo connect with Michelle:Podcast: https://lovelifeenergypodcastwithmichellechung.buzzsprout.com DM and follow me on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/michellechungcoach/ DM and follow me on Linked in: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michelle-chung-05550616/ Watch on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@michellechungcoach Website link https://www.michellechungcoach.com Get the Book 'How to Stop Dating & Be In an Effortless, Committed Relationship' https://www.michellechungcoach.com/ebook-stopdating Amazon US: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=how+to+stop+dating+%26+be+in+an+effortless&crid=1YSK06ASJDX05&sprefix=how+to+stop+dating+%26+be+in+an+effortless%2Caps%2C364&ref=nb_sb_nossAbout the Host: Mardi Winder is an ICF and BCC Executive and Leadership Coach, Certified Divorce Transition Coach, Certified Divorce Specialist (CDS®) and a Credentialed Distinguished Mediator in Texas. Today I am exploring the concepts of traditional and subtle sexism, based on research conducted by psychologists Michelle K. Ryan and Miriam K. Zehnter, the emotional impact sexism has on women and the impact it has on them at work. Have you ever been on the receiving end of a sexist comment, or behaviour? One that left you feeling humiliated, angry or feeling like you've nowhere to go? Has there been a longer term emotional impact on you too? In today's episode, we are talking about:Defining what 'sexism' isTraditional sexismHostile sexismSubtle sexismBenevolent sexismSomething Rebecca said today:" In this essay, Ryan and Zehnter discuss the various forms of sexism, which is a very tricky societal mechanism to explain because it can be so incredibly subtle and yet so incredibly damaging, as they state:'Sexism is no single thing , but rather a constellation of attitudes, beliefs and behaviours that reinforce patriarchal systems of gender inequality in society…. And are tools brought out to keep women and gender minority groups ‘in their place‘ and to reinforce the status quo.' “ (Rebecca Allen, host - Her Ambitious Career Podcast)Links:Listen to this related episode: Ep 192 – Know What Constitutes ‘Sexual Harassment' at Work & The Action Victims Can Take, with guest Sarah CappelloAnd this: Ep 175 (Part 1 of 3) - 3 Major Systemic Barriers to Women's Progression: The Culture BarrierGet Rebecca's free download: The 7 Habits of Female Execs Who Get PromotedBook a free 15-minute Career Strategy Call with Rebecca and build your credibility and visibility as a leaderGet your copy of 'Not Now, Not Ever', a series of essays edited by ex-Australian Prime Minister Julia GillardRate, Review, & Follow our Show on Apple Podcasts:Also, if you haven't done so already, follow the podcast. Forbes says leaders are ditching empathy in favour of hard-nosed results. I say: false dichotomy. Great leaders know people are the path to profits. In this episode, I pull apart the “nice vs. tough boss” argument and show why heart-centred leadership isn't soft — it's smarter, more sustainable, and far more effective. Along the way I draw on research and wisdom from Jim Collins, Shawn Achor, Brené Brown, Ed Catmull, Simon Sinek, Dan Sullivan, and others. You'll hear:Why empathy and performance aren't opposites. The hidden cost of fear-based, metrics-obsessed management. How psychological safety and trust drive innovation and profits. Why “nice” isn't enough — but genuine, human-centred leadership is essential. If you've been wondering how to lead in today's climate of uncertainty and pressure — this episode shows you a better way.

Dr. White, who's worked with a wide variety of people over the past 25 years, talks honestly about how burnout doesn't just happen overnight. They share some real-life signs that you might be heading toward burnout and why it's important to notice these signals before things get too heavy. Dr. White also points out that asking for help isn't a weakness, whether it's from a coach, a therapist, or another trained professional, sometimes just talking to someone who “gets it” can make all the difference. To help listeners figure out where they stand, Dr. White offers a free Clarity Compass guide, which is designed to help people sort through their thoughts and stress levels. The episode is a gentle reminder that it's okay to admit when you're struggling, and that reaching out for support can be the first step to feeling better, especially when life feels overwhelming or when you're in the midst of big changes like divorce.About the Guest:Dr. Tamara White, "The Divine Disruptor," empowers women to live courageously. In this episode, Mardi Winder welcomes J. Lumen, a transformational trainer, certified master life coach, and bestselling author, for an honest and heartfelt conversation about moving forward when life throws you off course. J. opens up about her own story, which started with all the pieces in place. She had a long-term relationship, a “good” job, and a life that, from the outside, seemed just fine. But beneath the surface, things were far from okay. She describes feeling drained and trapped, responsible for everything, and convincing herself she had to tough it out until life magically improved.Things took an unexpected and frightening turn after she ended her relationship, when her ex-boyfriend showed up out of the blue and held her hostage in her home. She shares how the situation quickly escalated to a traumatic, life-altering ordeal. J. talks candidly about how there were no classic warning signs, sharing her experience as a cautionary tale.Rather than staying stuck in fear or regret, J. explains how she used the experience to hit reset on her life. She and Mardi discuss finding happiness by reconnecting with your core values, remembering what used to bring you joy, and realizing you've already made it through challenges before. They make it clear that no one has to have everything figured out before taking the first step. Instead, J. encourages exploring new interests, giving yourself space to mess up and learn, and trusting that confidence grows from action and curiosity, not perfection.Throughout the conversation, J. brings warmth and humor, reminding listeners that big life changes don't have to wait for a crisis. She also offers a free self-assessment tool to help people get started, showing that small steps and self-reflection can make a huge difference. This episode is full of supportive, practical advice for anyone feeling stuck or ready for a new chapter.About the Guest:J. Lumen is a Transformation Trainer, an International Speaker, Certified Master Life Coach and an International best-selling contributing author. J. knows first-hand how it feels to be silently dissatisfied with life. For her, this was feeling trapped in a relationship that was emotionally over and at a toxic job she hated but not seeing a way out or even what she wanted. Eventually breaking free from the relationship, she convinced herself of all the reasons to keep the job and figure out what she wanted. But two months later, an unexpected knock at her door changed her life drastically as the night ended with an arrest for attempted murder. Of her. Using her own transformation, she's on a mission to empower others to stop waiting for a life-altering event of their own and start living a life they'd never imagine possible, full of authentic joy and one they don't regret. For J.'s gift: https://resumeyourlife.com/To connect with J: Website: https://theunknownbucketlist.com/ LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/J.lumen8 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theunknownbucketlist/About the Host: Mardi Winder is an ICF and BCC Executive and Leadership Coach, Certified Divorce Transition Coach, Certified Divorce Specialist (CDS®) and a Credentialed Distinguished Mediator in Texas.
