A legend in his own right, Gaffney's bull riding career left an indelible mark on the sport. Armed with unyielding determination and unshakable courage, he blazed a trail of greatness, amassing an astounding thirteen 90-point rides and achieving the seemingly impossible feat of taming the legendary bull Little Yellow Jacket not once, but twice in 2004, with spectacular rides of 93.75 and 96.5. "G" is for Gaffney (Cherokee County; 2020 population 12,303). Incorporated in 1875, the city of Gaffney was named for the Irish immigrant Michael Gaffney. He came to the area around 1804, bought land, and constructed a house, barns, and a store and tavern. The property was known as Gaffney’s Cross Roads or Gaffney’s Old Field. In the early 1870s, the arrival of the Atlanta and Charlotte Railroad (later the Southern Railway) resulted in considerable growth. Between 1882 and 1907, seven textile mills provided employment opportunities for hundreds of new residents. In 1896, the town’s leaders along with those from Limestone Springs and Blacksburg organized a successful effort to create a new county. Endorsed by the governor, in 1897 the General Assembly created Cherokee County with Gaffney named as the county seat.
Dr. Michael Gaffney, a Research Entomologist in Teagasc, joined Michael Hennessy on this week's Tillage Edge podcast to discuss aphid control and BYDV. Michael explained that even though there is some infection initially from winged aphids, only a small proportion of the problematic aphids (Grain aphid and Bird Cherry Oat aphid) actually carry the virus. It's the offspring of these aphids which can spread more virus within the crop. Environmental factors such as temperature, wind and rain can affect how fast aphids reproduce and these factors dictate when control measures are best used. Michael also discussed insecticide resistance and even though there is pyrethroid resistance across the country, pyrethroids will work well in most cases. He stresses the need for constant field walking to observe both aphid numbers and also species type. World Backup Day is a day for people to learn about the increasing role of data in our lives and the importance of regular backups. This independent initiative to raise awareness about backups and data preservation started out — like most good things on the internet - on reddit by a couple of concerned users. Let’s make this happen! In this new world of hacking, phishing, whaling, and ransomware, the CIO must embrace perseverance by consistently backing up files on the cloud and ensuring that this data is secure. On World Backup Day (March 31) spring is a great reminder to do so. Think of it as a data center spring cleaning behavior to roust out of its winter hibernation. I chat with Michael Gaffney, CEO of Leonovus on World Backup Day and encourage listeners to take the pledge. 1. I solemnly swear to backup my important documents and precious memories on March 31st.” 2. I will also tell my friends and family about World Backup Day - friends don't let friends go without a backup.

We will discuss him and his foolishness as well all on the 1234 5 oclock Shadow!
