With Bison on assignment in the Alaskan wilderness, the remaining crew kicks off the episode by bringing a fresh round of folks to the bar, including Florida Gators coach Billy Napier, breakout golfer Lottie Wode, and a publicly candid Deion Sanders. Things quickly heat up with a discussion of the massive ESPN and NFL Network merger, as the guys fear it will stifle investigative journalism and raise costs for fans, turning the network into a mouthpiece for the league. They also dissect a presidential executive order on NIL, they celebrate the latest MLB Hall of Fame inductees, heaping praise on the uniquely brilliant and perhaps underrated career of Ichiro Suzuki. (Bison wasn't available for comment).Really quick mention... the show would not be complete without Injury Board, an exclusive networking and marketing firm that connects and refers cases among the best plaintiffs' lawyers in the country. If you're a leader in your community and at the bar, consider checking out InjuryBoard.org for membership and referral opportunities. The episode also features a fiery debate over a potential MLB lockout, sparked by a clubhouse confrontation between Bryce Harper and Commissioner Rob Manfred over a proposed salary cap, a topic that gets things going between the crew. With fantasy football drafts looming, the guys dive deep into running back strategy, arguing over top-tier talent, identifying some sleepers and flagging key players to avoid!--------Oh, and If you're looking for a company to develop your website and digital marketing, Digital Law Marketing offers exclusive regional partnerships, unlike other companies that might prioritize marketing competitors. Their proven results have led to significant increases in organic originations. Go to DigitalLawMarketing.com for details.Assembly Software is a huge part of how the guys keep this show going. It's known for its leading case management product, TrialWorks, and its cloud-based solution, Neos. Neos allows law firms to access everything on the road and now features an AI program to enhance efficiency in tasks like drafting letters. Check out AssemblySoftware.com for more information.

Gambling With Good JuJu - Sports Betting, Casino Gambling, Las Vegas, and Shenanigans
Welcome to Gambling With Good JuJu, the show that reviews more authors than Granny's book club—and drops more casino hacks than your favorite gambling forum. This week, we're thrilled to sit down with veteran journalist and author Michael Kaplan, whose brand new book Advantage Players pulls back the curtain on the most fascinating figures in gambling. From Phil Ivey and Kelly Sun's edge-sorting scheme to Mattress Mack's multi-million dollar sports bets, Kaplan takes us on a tour of high-stakes strategy, psychological warfare, and the rare personalities who consistently beat the house. We also dive into his earlier work covering legends like Stu Ungar, Doyle Brunson, and David Blaine, plus his unexpected path from punk zines to Cigar Aficionado's gambling columnist.
On this episode of iGaming Daily, Managing Editor, Jessica Welman, and Professional Gambler and Founder of Unabated.com, Jack Andrews, break down a major shift in gambling tax law that's sending shockwaves through the betting world. Buried within the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” the controversial change overhauls how gambling winnings and losses are reported, eliminating the long-standing ability to deduct losses dollar-for-dollar against winnings. This episode dives deep into what the change means for recreational bettors, high-volume players, and industry stakeholders navigating the financial consequences. At the heart of the issue is a new cap limiting gambling loss deductions to just 90% of winnings. This means that even players who walk away with a net loss could owe taxes on up to 10% of their gross wins. Jack Andrews lays out the math: if you win £100,000 but lose £105,000, you'd still owe taxes on £5,000. The implications are especially dire for high-net-worth bettors and VIPs who represent the lifeblood of casino revenue. With fears that the IRS could now more aggressively target these players, the hosts explore how this tax tweak could inadvertently push bettors toward offshore markets and unregulated platforms, threatening the stability of the legal gaming ecosystem.Jessica and Jack also scrutinise the mixed responses from key industry players. While the American Gaming Association initially applauded the legislation, it quickly reversed course after internal backlash. Meanwhile, the Sports Betting Alliance has stayed notably quiet. The episode uncovers growing speculation around how such a sweeping change made it into the bill unnoticed, even by members of the Senate Finance Committee. https://enlighteninglife.com/july-2025-energy-report/Get ready for some good luck in July because it's the ‘lucky 7' month and we have two sevens this month. July is the 7th month and July 2025 is a 7 month (2025 = 9 + 7 = 16, 6+1=7). And we have Mercury retrograde in Leo, echoing Mars' long Leo retro earlier this year and it's long Pluto opposition. It's a great month for fun, fireworks, and fear-free transformation. Let's get to it.First the numerology because we do have a lucky double 7 configuration so we have twice the luck. Some people will tell you that 7 represents the need to go inward, to hibernate, rest, rejuvenate, and restore your energy. I say we can do more with July's lucky double 7s. 7 is a universal number that is present in so much of our daily lives. We have 7 days in a week, 7 chakras, 7 visible planets in the sky, there are 7 continents on the earth, and 7 seas. Gamblers refer to ‘lucky 7'.7 stands between the 6 of descension and the 8 of infinite awareness so it's another ascension bridge for us in a time when we have so many of these in 2025 and in the month of July. We just may have some accelerated growth happening – stay tuned and be prepared. So let's not start this month thinking we have to find some mountaintop to sit on for the next 31 days and contemplate our inner self while ignoring the world around us, trying to get the ‘next move' right in theory before we put it into practice. We can take aligned action and course correct at any time.Starting with the 7 numerology, which is the combination of 1 + 6, the 1 of action plus the 6 of descension. We have a universal call to action here with the energy of descension to support it. Now we just have to avoid the ‘hibernate in place' advice and get ready to expand our energy into new potentials.Read the rest of the July Energy Report on the blog at enlighteninglife.com Created, narrated, and produced by Jennifer Hoffman.Artwork by Jennifer Hoffman.Copyright (C) 2004-2025 by Jennifer Hoffman, all US and international rights reserved.Visit enlighteninglife.com for more information. Please note our policies regarding copyright infringement, content misuse, and theft of intellectual property. ESRI's Dr Diarmaid O'Ceallaigh discusses how inducements or special offers to bet can have serious harm for gamblers.
A new study from the Economic and Social Research Institute has found that offers like free bets and money-back guarantees from gambling companies convince people to place more bets, leaving punters at risk of gambling addiction.Dr Diarmaid Ó Ceallaigh, Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the ESRI Behavioural Research Unit and Professor Colin O'Gara, Head of Addiction Services at St. John Of God Hospital spoke to Matt on The Last Word.Hit the ‘Play' button on this page to hear the conversation.
Gambling offers such as free bets and moneyback guarantees entice people to bet more often and with more money. That's according to new research from the ESRI's Behavioural Research Unit. We discuss these findings with Dr. Shane Timmons Senior Research Officer, ESRI.

Geburtstag.

Pete offers his Win, Place and Show for the upcoming Belmont Stakes 2025. They all have had fun times with Dale including one night when Dale had to give the bartenders at a new NYC hotspot a cocktail recipe. Pete: You're writing out the recipe on the back of a napkin to send to the bartenders to go and make us around. To this day still, it was the most baller move I've ever seen to be in the hot new restaurant writing out the recipe. This is what we'd like to drink, thank you very much.Francis: I wanna make a public service announcement to all dining customers. If you are not Dale Degroff, don't do that. Dale: And by the way, this explains why nobody knows where these famous drinks came from with a few minor exceptions because they wrote 'em down on a cocktail napkin and stuck them in their pocket. Later on in the evening they pulled it out, blew their nose on it and threw it away.Dale DeGroff & Peter Thomas Fornatale on The Restaurant Guys Podcast 2025InfoPete's podcasthttps://inthemoneypodcast.com/category/players-podcast/Pete's bookBrooklyn Spirits: Craft Distilling and Cocktails from the World's Hippest BoroughBy Peter Thomas Fornatale & Chris WertzChris MacMillan mint julep videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJV-O1e10z8&t=358sOn Friday, June 27 Come see The Restaurant Guys LIVE with Chef Andrew Zimmern at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center in New Brunswick, NJ. I recently sent you two memos about our need for positive hope.“Hollywood's Broken Angel” was the true story of a woman who desperately needed a friend to encourage her.“Hope and a Future” explained how easy it is to recharge the emotional batteries of a friend whose light has dimmed.Positive hope crackles with the vibrant energy of life itself. It radiates honesty, openness, forgiveness, acceptance, optimism, loyalty and love.Positive hope illuminates the heart and drives away the darkness. But there is also such a thing as negative hope. It promises salvation but delivers only hubris, which is desperation disguised as confidence.Negative hope is attractive, addictive, and cruel.Gamblers sitting around a poker table are the perfect portrait of negative hope. They ride a rollercoaster of elation and despair but tell themselves they have a system.A second portrait of negative hope is a lottery ticket, a receipt issued by the government to citizens who pay a voluntary tax because they believe in lucky numbers and are extremely bad at math.Bernie Madoff was a salesman of negative hope. He wore the mask of a self-made billionaire, but behind that mask was a desperate little con man who stole money from innocent people who believed they had been admitted into the inner circle of a genius who had a secret system. The world is full of elegant and attractive people who sell negative hope. One of them will sell you a worthless education by promising you a better-paying job. Another will sell you a garage full of crap by convincing you of the miracle of multilevel marketing. A third will sell you the promise of inner peace by convincing you they have it, and that it can be transferred to you for money.Negative hope is attractive, but you can easily recognize it now that you know what to look for.I'm really glad we got that out of the way because now I've got some great news for you: inner peace is real. And here's some even better news: you can have it for free, no strings attached.Inner peace is honesty, openness, forgiveness, acceptance, optimism, loyalty and love. All of these can be yours for free. But first you have to give them away.It is a simple but fascinating system. The more you give these 7 things to others, the more richly they accumulate in you.Five hundred and eleven Christmases have come and gone since Giovanni Giocondo sent his Christmas letter to a friend in 1513. It said, “No peace lies in the future that is not hidden in this present little instant. Take peace!”Likewise, I say to you, inner peace is hidden in this present little instant.Reach out and take it. It's yours.Roy H. WilliamsWhen roving reporter Rotbart was a financial columnist with The Wall Street Journal, he met a young man named Steve Jobs who left a lasting impression on him. “When I spoke with Jason Schappert,” Rotbart says, “it felt like I was talking with Steve Jobs again.” Jason Schappert recently launched an AI-powered investment platform for middle-class consumers, providing the same insights and tools typically reserved for the ultra-rich. On election night, while many voters across the country were focused on who would win the presidency, a growing number of Americans were watching the returns with another question in mind: will I win or lose money? That's because, just weeks before November 5th, a judge ruled that for the first time in almost a century Americans could bet large amounts of money on the outcome of political races. In this episode, we talk to two people who made big bets: Mike, a Latino Democrat who bet $10,000 on Kamala Harris winning, and Jordan, a white conservative Trump supporter who risked $60,000 on Trump's victory. And Slate's business and tech reporter Nitish Pahwa helps Anna understand the changing legal context for gambling in America. Read Slate's Nitish Pahwa's post on prediction markets and politics here.
