It was a thrilling weekend across the tours, full of grit, breakthroughs and standout play. On the PGA Tour, Ryan Fox outlasted the field in a four-hole playoff to win the RBC Canadian Open—proof that relentless effort can beat perfect technique. Jennifer Kupcho snapped a three-year drought with a birdie to win the LPGA's ShopRite Classic at –15. Austin Smotherman claimed the Korn Ferry's BMW Charity Pro-Am with a lights-out –25 finish, while Connor Syme finally broke through on the DP World Tour with a long-awaited win at the KLM Open. On the LIV stage, Joaquín Niemann fired a bogey-free 63 for his fourth win of the season, and Phil Mickelson delivered a vintage flop-shot birdie that reminded us all why Lefty is still magic. This Week's Improvement Pivot Point: Perfectly Imperfect.Ryan Fox's win is a reminder that swing aesthetics don't matter nearly as much as understanding your capabilities, controlling your ball flight, and grinding it out under pressure. Scott breaks down Fox's swing—why it works for him as a full-time player who's learned to manage its nuances, but why it's not one you'd want to replicate. The takeaway? Understand the root cause of your movement, and build a swing that works for you. One of our favorite Father's Day stories came from the US Open at Chambers Bay 10 years ago! By chance we ran into Phil Mickelson's dad and wound up talking with him about a number of things!
The RBC Canadian Open in Toronto was a birdie fest and ultimately went to a playoff where New Zealand's Ryan Fox secured his second victory of the season. Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, showed up but didn't show out.The LPGA's shorter ShopRite Classic had an American return to the winner's circle in Jennifer Kupcho in New Jersey as the ladies now tune up for the upcoming KMPG in a couple weeks. The Champions Tour team golf event of the American Family Insurance Championship saw Darren Clarke and Thomas Bjorn claim the top prize, and Michael's "favorite" player Angel Cabrera didn't do too poorly either.Golf's longest day, the qualifier for the US Open, was last week, and while PGA Tour fixtures like Max Homa failed to quality, a dentist and former Oakmont caddy did and gets to play in a major championship. The 2025 US Open is sure to be a brutal test as Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlRoy, Bryson DeChambeau and more descend on Oakmont Country Club. The guys wonder what the winning score might be, and Michael gets Alex to pick some favorites out of some interesting groups, including Tommy Fleetwood, Bryson, and Phil Mickelson. In Tuned In, Michael has started watching the new golf series Stick on Apple TV, while Alex got thinking after the Tony's: which major is most like each EGOT award. Michael makes guesses to see if he lines up with Alex. This week's guest is Maja Stark. The Swedish golfer returns to the podcast fresh off her US Women's Open victory at Erin Hills. The new major champion chats with Alex about what it was like to win, how she's celebrating, and why she had a Wisconsin beer in her hand afterward the win.The NBA Finals heat up at the Pacers and Timberwolves play in a "midwestern Finals."Aaron Rodgers had finally made his choice, but Alex and Michael don't know if it's a good one for the Steelers. As the guys #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex shares a great new burger he tried in Austin, while Michael asks is George Moetz is right about just 3 toppings on a burger.
Happy Tuesday Edition of the Program!! It was a Big Sports Weekend over Memorial Day. NBA continues to deliver. NHL seems like forgone conclusion. Indy 500 ratings were good. Happy Friday, thanks for downloading another bumper episode! We start this week with the Cool Board. Where will golf speakers, groove cleaners and Sunday bags find their way onto the board? The Explainer this week sees us dive into aftermarket shafts. What exactly is different about an aftermarket shaft versus a stock shaft? And, is the investment in an aftermarket shaft really worth it? Joe explains all. Ask The Pod this week wants to know if anyone really needs a 60° wedge. If someone like Dan Grieve only uses his for emergencies, are we wasting a slot in the bag with a club that rarely makes an appearance and is hard to hit? Finally, this week's WITB sees us investigate the clubs of Phil Mickelson. Joe was due to interview golf's great left-hander earlier this year in Singapore, but sadly that got cancelled. Even so, Joe managed to have a little root around Phil's bag, so he has some brilliant insights into his current equipment. We also take a brief trip into Phil's equipment history - did you know he's the only player to have won a major with no drivers, one driver and two drivers in his bag? Andy and Brendan are back at home after a week in Georgia but still reflecting on what Brendan has deemed "the greatest Masters" of his life. This episode unpacks some of the more emotional elements surrounding Rory's win and subsequent completion of the career slam. The two discuss how Rory's sustained relevance in majors without a win could parallel to struggles in any person's life before comparing McIlroy's current career standing with Phil Mickelson's. Andy wonders what Justin Rose is doing to prepare for majors given his performance in weekly PGA Tour events and also demands apologies from the Corey Conners contingent who were not pleased with his takes last week. Picks are made for the RBC Heritage as this gambling podcast looks to stay hot after picking another winner last week. PJ then hosts a lengthy round of In-Out-Alternate for this week's alternate field event in PuntaCana, featuring some SGS favorites and plenty of winners from the early 2010s. Brendan wraps things up with some quick bits of news, including a "creator" exemption into the 'Cuda, before heading off to Disney World, where Rory may or may not be celebrating his Masters win.
Will Doctor reviews all 95 players at Augusta en route to finalizing card for the 89th playing of the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club. -Reviewing 4 futures outright tickets -Reviewing 3 picks to win any major in 2025 -Going through all 95 players in the Masters Tournament -Adding 1 outright -1 t20, 1 t30 -2 bets "to make the cut" -1 bet "to miss the cut" -4 72-hole matchups -1 first round matchup -3 round 1 three ball matchups -1 t10 after R1 including an 8.2-unit loss at the Valero Texas Open and a failed 9-1 futures ticket on the Houston Cougars in NCAA basketball. He stresses the importance of reviewing picks, especially amid a losing streak, and outlines the four Masters futures he carries from December: Scottie Scheffler (7-1), Ludwig Aberg (14-1), Sung Jae Im (50-1), and Sepp Straka (100-1), with three additional tickets on Sahith Theegala, Tom Kim, and Davis Thompson to win any major. Scottie Scheffler, coming in as the favorite at +525, is praised for consistent elite performance, including no finishes worse than 25th in six events since returning from a hand injury, and podium finishes in his last four starts. His game, including a best putting performance of the season in Houston, is peaking. Rory McIlroy is faded despite strong wins at Pebble Beach and the Players; Will cites driving accuracy issues and suggests 10-1 would be a fairer line than 7.25-1. Jon Rahm, now on the LIV circuit, enters at 16-1 with recent top-10s but inconsistent putting and chipping. Morikawa is also passed over due to final-round collapses, though Will does back him to top 10 in Round 1. Other fades include Bryson DeChambeau (20-1), Justin Thomas (25-1), and Hideki Matsuyama (35-1), due to poor putting or chipping trends. Conversely, Will is bullish on Robert MacIntyre (60-1), who has recorded three straight top-11 finishes and two strong prior Augusta showings. He places both an outright bet and a matchup on him. Victor Hovland is another targeted play, specifically in a matchup over Cam Smith, following his Valspar win and a confident outlook on his improved short game. Shane Lowry, cited for consistency and solid Augusta history, is backed for a top 20, while Russell Henley earns a top-30 ticket thanks to elevated iron play. Several key quotes add depth. Scottie Scheffler credits Texas's varied conditions for developing his shot-making adaptability. Rory McIlroy reflects on family memories and the beauty of Augusta. Morikawa defends media avoidance, which Will critiques as symptomatic of poor mental preparation. Hovland speaks optimistically about short-game improvements with coach Grant Waite, prompting confidence from Will. Aberg's comments reveal awareness of recent struggles, but he remains committed to routine. Sepp Straka remains a strong value at 100-1 with excellent iron play and driving form. He's bet to beat Sam Burns in a first-round matchup, who is faded due to declining performance. Sung Jae Im's ticket has cratered in value, and Will expresses regret on that pick. Spieth is passed over at 40-1 due to erratic iron play, despite solid chipping and putting. Other noted fades include Tommy Fleetwood, Corey Connors, Cam Smith, Patrick Cantlay, Min Woo Lee, and Brooks Koepka, each due to specific statistical weaknesses in approach, short game, or driving. Later segments analyze lower-ranked players, including positive remarks about Phil Mickelson's resurgence and Charles Schwartzel's sharp form. Will picks Mickelson to make the cut, citing recent LIV success. Keegan Bradley and Akshay Bhatia are also featured in favorable matchups. Will wraps with lineup picks for Masters.com, choosing Scheffler, Patrick Reed, Shane Lowry, Davis Thompson, and Straka. A recap of Tiger's 2019 win and Spieth's performances leads to an Augusta National course breakdown. We cover 2025 Masters betting odds, player picks, and a TGL vs. LIV Golf prediction. Discussions include Jon Rahm, Buttsy's new look, Phil Mickelson, Will Zalatoris' potential, and left-handed players at Augusta. We wrap up with sponsor shoutouts and upcoming events.
The Hidden Gift Inside Every Setback What if the biggest failures in your life were actually setting you up for something far greater? In this episode, I sit down with some of the best to ever do it—Troy Aikman, Phil Mickelson, Sean Casey, Dean Graziosi, and Brendon Burchard—to break down how setbacks can be the turning point that leads to your greatest success. Troy Aikman opens up about his brutal 0-11 rookie season and how he refused to let failure define him, going on to win three Super Bowls. Phil Mickelson shares how one of his most painful losses in golf led to his most unexpected victory. Sean Casey talks about how learning to see failure as feedback transformed his approach in baseball and in life. Dean Graziosi reveals the deeply personal decision that changed the course of his life, and Brendon Burchard explains why fear of failure is often the thing keeping us from our highest potential. This episode is a masterclass in resilience, mindset, and learning how to turn setbacks into stepping stones. No matter what challenge you're facing, you'll walk away with the tools and perspective to see it as an opportunity rather than an obstacle. Key Takeaways: - How Troy Aikman went from 0-11 to Super Bowl champion by refusing to lose confidence. - Why Phil Mickelson's greatest career disappointment led directly to his biggest victory. - The mindset shift that allows elite performers to use failure as fuel. - How to break free from the fear of what others think and finally take action. - Why your biggest challenges may actually be the setup for your biggest wins. Your failures don't define you—how you respond to them does. The road to your greatest achievements will be paved with setbacks, but if you're willing to keep going, the other side holds everything you've been working for.
