We read it, go through its tajweed rules, reflect on its meaning, and explore the timeless lessons and wisdom it holds.As an added challenge, we're memorising one ayah per day from this incredible surah—the surah Rasulullah ﷺ recited every night before sleeping. Let's begin by reading it together:قُلْ هُوَ الرَّحْمَـٰنُ آمَنَّا بِهِ وَعَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا ۚ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ هُوَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍThis ayah follows directly from yesterday's discussion, where the Quraysh were challenged to reflect. Allah instructed Rasulullah ﷺ to tell them: if Allah were to destroy him and the believers or show mercy upon them, it wouldn't change the fate of the disbelievers.Now, the Prophet ﷺ is told to say: “He is Ar-Rahman (The Most Compassionate). We have believed in Him, and upon Him we rely. Soon you will know who is in clear misguidance.”Let's pause here and reflect on a few key lessons.First, the name Ar-Rahman. This is one of the most powerful names of Allah. In fact, it's so significant that there's an entire surah named after it.Ar-Rahman is often translated as “The Most Merciful,” but mercy alone doesn't fully capture its meaning. Mercy in English usually implies forgiveness after a mistake. Ar-Rahman goes far beyond that.In one hadith, Allah says, “I am Ar-Rahman, and I created the womb and derived its name from Mine.” Think about the relationship between a baby and its mother's womb. The baby is completely sustained and protected without doing anything. It is nourished, safe, and loved—all through the mercy and compassion of the mother.

They think their power, wealth, or status can shield them from divine consequences.But look at history:• The mighty Firaun drowned in a body of water.• The advanced civilization of Thamud, with their homes carved into mountains, was destroyed in moments.• Even today, natural disasters remind us how powerless humanity truly is.Our perceived strength is fragile. Real strength lies in submission to Allah.

Birds spreading their wings and gliding—it's something we see so often that we take it for granted. But think about it: How do they stay in the air? What holds them up?Yes, there's aerodynamics, physics, and wind currents, but at its core, it's Allah's Rahmah that keeps them flying.The point here is this: don't just stop at science. A believer uses their curiosity about the world to marvel at Allah's greatness.

Each name of Allah is a manifestation of His perfection.His (swt) attributes are beyond human comprehension.When we invoke Allah using His names in our Duas…We're not merely uttering words but tapping into the essence of His attributes. Whether we call upon Him as Al-Rahman (the Most Merciful) or Al-Qadir (the All-Powerful), we're acknowledging His sovereignty over all creation and seeking His aid with humility and reverence.In it, we beseech Allah by His beautiful names. Who better to call during our lowest points in life?Furthermore, let us reflect on the common phrase ""God is love."" While some phrases like “God is love” may carry good intentions, they fall short of capturing the entirety of Allah's majesty. Yes, Allah is indeed Al-Wadud (the All-Loving), but to reduce Him to a mere abstract concept like love is to diminish His greatness. Let's not forget to approach Allah with the utmost reverence and awe, acknowledging His names and attributes in their fullness.Let's never underestimate the power of invoking Allah through His names. Take a moment to reflect on the power of Allah's attributes and choose His names carefully. May Allah guide us on this path of enlightenment and bless us with His mercy and grace. Ameen"

Allah created life and death to see which of us excels in good deeds, showing that every moment in this life is a chance to prove our sincerity, patience, and gratitude. It's a reminder to always strive for the best in everything we do.Now, in ayah 3, Allah turns our attention to His creation. He says:“Al-ladhi khalaqa al-samawati sab'a tibaqa”“He is the One who created the seven heavens in layers.”Let's break this down. The “seven heavens” here refer to the layers of the skies above us—not Jannah (Paradise), but the samawat, the vast layers of the universe. Allah describes them as being stacked in perfect harmony, without any flaw or imperfection. And then He invites us to look up, to observe this creation. He says:“You will not see any disparity in the creation of the Most Merciful.”

Lesson 66: [OBLIGATIONS TOWARDS THE COMPANIONS AND A MENTION OF THEIR VIRTUES] One of the fundamentals of Ahlus Sunnah wal-Jama'ah is the purity of their hearts and tongues towards the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. It is with this that Allah, Most High, has described them: 'Those who have come after them say: 'Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in Imaan. Do not put any resentment in our hearts towards those who have Imaan. Our Lord, You are All-Gentle, Most Merciful.' ' [al-Hashr: 10] They also obey the saying of the Prophet ﷺ: 'Do not abuse my Companions, for by the One in whose hand is my soul, if any one of you spend gold like Uhud (in charity) it will not equal a mudd, or even a half, of what they spend in charity.' Understanding Shaytan's actions reminds us to never doubt the strength of Allah's protection over the believers.Remember, no matter how much he's cornered you, when you call upon Allah, know that your voice is heard. Never let doubt creep into your heart, thinking you're somehow overlooked by Allah. He is the Most Merciful, and He promises to respond to His servants.

Say: "It (this Qur'ân) has been sent down by Him (Allâh) (the Real Lord of the heavens and earth) Who knows the secret of the heavens and the earth. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." [Quran 25:6]

The surah discusses the fate of past nations who denied their prophets and faced destruction, contrasting with the reward of the righteous. Surah An-Nur (The Light) follows, focusing on social ethics, including the severe punishment for adultery, the importance of chastity, and the false accusations against chaste women. It also addresses the incident of the false accusation against Aisha, the wife of Prophet Muhammad. The surah promotes modesty, respect for privacy, and proper etiquette in personal interactions. The juz concludes with Surah Al-Furqan (The Criterion), which distinguishes truth from falsehood. It criticizes those who reject the Quran, describing their arguments and the consequences of their disbelief. The surah highlights Allah's attributes, the signs in nature, and the creation of night and day. The first juz of the Quran, also known as "Alif Lam Mim," encompasses the opening chapter, Al-Fatiha, and the first part of Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow), spanning verses 1 to 141. ### Al-Fatiha (The Opening) Al-Fatiha, the opening chapter, is a prayer and introduction to the Quran. It consists of seven verses and holds immense significance as it encapsulates the essence of the Quran. The chapter begins with praises for Allah, the Lord of all worlds, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate, and the Master of the Day of Judgment. It acknowledges Allah's sovereignty and seeks His guidance to stay on the righteous path, distinct from those who have gone astray or incurred His wrath. This chapter is recited in every unit of the Muslim prayer, reflecting its central role in Islamic worship. ### Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) Surah Al-Baqarah is the longest chapter in the Quran, and the first juz introduces several key themes and narratives that are expanded upon in the rest of the chapter. **Introduction and Guidance** The chapter begins with the mysterious letters "Alif Lam Mim," whose exact meaning is known only to Allah. It establishes the Quran as a guidance for those conscious of Allah, who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend from what Allah has provided. It categorizes people into three groups: the believers, the disbelievers, and the hypocrites. The believers accept the guidance, the disbelievers reject it, and the hypocrites pretend to believe but harbor disbelief in their hearts. **Creation and Fall of Adam** The narrative of the creation of Adam and his subsequent fall from paradise is detailed. Allah announces to the angels His intention to create a vicegerent on Earth, leading to Adam's creation. Adam is taught the names of all things, showcasing his superiority over the angels in knowledge. Despite the angels' initial reservations, they bow to Adam, except for Iblis (Satan), who refuses out of arrogance, becoming an eternal adversary to humanity. Adam and his wife are placed in paradise but are deceived by Iblis, leading to their expulsion to Earth. This story underscores themes of obedience, knowledge, and the consequences of sin. **Covenant with the Children of Israel** The juz addresses the Children of Israel, reminding them of Allah's favors and their covenant. They are urged to fulfill their promises to Allah and adhere to the guidance sent through the prophets. The narrative recalls their liberation from Pharaoh, the provision of manna and quails, and the incident of the golden calf. It emphasizes their recurring disobedience and ingratitude despite Allah's continuous blessings. **The Parable of the Cow** The juz narrates the story from which the chapter takes its name. The Children of Israel are commanded to sacrifice a cow, but their continual questioning and reluctance highlight their lack of faith and obedience. This parable is a lesson in submission to divine commands without unnecessary hesitation or doubt. **Lessons and Guidance** Throughout the first juz, the Quran offers numerous lessons in faith, obedience, and righteousness. It calls for steadfastness in prayer, charity, patience, and humility. It stresses the importance of guidance and warns against the consequences of hypocrisy and disbelief. The narrative emphasizes that true success lies in adhering to Allah's guidance and maintaining a sincere and obedient relationship with Him. In summary, the first juz of the Quran introduces fundamental themes of divine guidance, human responsibility, and the importance of faith and obedience.
