Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S50) Sa'ad Ibn Abi Waqaas رضي الله عنه heard a man speaking ill of Ali, Talha and Zubayr رضي الله عنهم (after they had passed away). Sa'ad رضي الله عنه said: “Stop this! They have received tremendous accolades”. Sa'ad رضي الله عنه said stop this cursing or I will supplicate against you. The man scoffed and replied: “He curses me as if he was a Prophet”. Sa'ad رضي الله عنه then supplicated and a camel ran in, crushing the man with its chest. The People congratulated Sa'ad رضي الله عنه on his dua being accepted. Sa'ad رضي الله عنه, out of his utmost Taqwa, then freed a slave and swore to never curse anyone again. Speaking ill of any of the Companions رضي الله عنهم is a disastrous path to take. One must be acquainted with these noble souls رضي الله عنهم to avoid any negative thoughts. The Messenger ﷺ: “Allah, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى), fear Him (سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى) in regards to my Companions [رضي الله عنهم]. Do not target them after me. Whoever loves them, loves them out of love for me. Whoever hates them, hates them out of love for me. Whoever hates me, hates Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى and whoever hates Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى is about to perish”.

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,The Companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (the Sahabah) are the best generation of this Ummah. Allah praised them in the Qur'an, and the Prophet ﷺ affirmed their excellence in many authentic hadith. Love for them is part of faith, while hatred towards them is hypocrisy. In this post, we will explore Quranic verses and authentic narrations highlighting their rank and why they remain role models for all Muslims.Allah the Most High declared His pleasure with the earliest Muslims who sacrificed everything for His cause:“And the first forerunners among the Muhajirun and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct – Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him.” (Qur'an 9:100, Quran.com)This verse establishes their lofty status and guarantees Allah's pleasure for the sincere followers of their path.Similarly, Allah commands the later generations of believers:“And those who came after them say: Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith, and put not in our hearts any resentment toward those who have believed. Muazh رضي الله عنه drew lots to decide which to lower into the grave first - showcasing his utmost Taqwa. The blessed wives were buried in the same grave. The passing of Abu Ubaydah رضي الله عنه: He and his family initially weren't affected. He made dua that his family be given a share. Abu Ubaydah رضي الله عنه, now dying, gave his final advice. Muazh, Amr Ibn al-Aas and Dahaak Ibn Qays رضي الله عنهم lowered Abu Ubaydah رضي الله عنه into his grave. Muazh رضي الله عنه began to praised him…

Muazh Ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه (S51) Umar رضي الله عنه asked some men around him: “What are your wishes?”. One man replied: “That this room be full of silver and I spend it in the path of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى”. Umar رضي الله عنه wasn't impressed. Another said: “that it be filled with gold” and another: “that it be filled with rubies and I spend it in the Path of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى”. Umar رضي الله عنه still wasn't impressed. The men wondered what the right answer was. Umar رضي الله عنه said: “I wish this room was full of men like Abu Ubaydah, Muazh Ibn Jabal and Hudayfah Ibn al-Yaman [رضي الله عنهم], so I could employ them to serve the Deen”. Wealth is the standard for the people of the world, the standard for the God-fearing is Taqwa. Umar رضي الله عنه heard of the plague outbreak in Shaam. He رضي الله عنه said: “If I am martyred by the plague, my successor is Abu Ubaydah رضي الله عنه. If Abu Ubaydah رضي الله عنه passes before me, then my successor is Muazh Ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه”. Such was the love and trust that Umar had for these 2 noble souls [رضي الله عنهم].

Muazh Ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه (S33) Whilst we fight battles with shaytaan between good deeds and sins, Muazh رضي الله عنه was battling between the better of 2 good deeds - such was the level of his Taqwa. Muazh رضي الله عنه participated in all of the expeditions during The Messenger's ﷺ lifetime. He was ~20 years old at Badr. The Messenger ﷺ instructed Muazh رضي الله عنه to stay in Makkah during the battle of Hunayn, to teach the new reverts about Islam, using the Qur'an. Teaching the faith to your brothers and sisters is also like Jihad - a unique honour for Muazh رضي الله عنه.

Muazh Ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه (S30) Muazh رضي الله عنه was once walking with a man when he suddenly picked up a stone and moved it out the way. The man enquired. Muazh رضي الله عنه said that he heard The Messenger ﷺ say: “Whoever removes a stone/rock from the pathway, he will be granted a Hasanah. Whoever has one Hasanah, will enter Paradise”. Muazh رضي الله عنه took every opportunity to do a good deed - not belittling any of them. Had not come true the dua that The Messenger ﷺ taught Muazh? رضي الله عنه An immense worshipper, who came to conquer, not complete. A glimpse into his Taqwa: Muazh رضي الله عنه said: “Whoever wilfully knows who is stood to his right or left whilst praying, has not truly prayed”.
