LOST INTERVIEWS 'HOUSTON GEMS' GARY MICHAEL HOUSTONIn this episode of 'LOST INTERVIEWS' Gary Michael Houston talks about his late great auntie Whitney Houston, Kanye West and conversing with Jay Z in central London with Fidel Channer.Gary Michael Houston was born and raised in South Plainfield, New Jersey. His life has been like 24/7 music school, being out in the spotlight is in his blood. He comes from a long line of musicians. The most iconic being his beloved late great aunt, and mentor, pop-icon Whitney Houston. Being the eldest grandson of gospel legend Cissy Houston, he gained an immense affinity for not only music but the music business itself at a very early and intimate age. Having the the same roots of hip hop, from gospel to pop to his current genre, he has been exposed to the entertainment industry on a high level. “I’ve been making music since forever. I’ve watched people become successful and make mistakes…. I feel like I’m more seasoned for this type of game," says Houston, who writes and co-produces all of his own material both vocally and visually. Gary uses his background as ammunition to succeed and to help others achieve their dreams. As he enters into his own adulthood and career, Gary chooses to use his talent and ambitions to spread the message that we are all self-defined and able to overcome anything, the true message of hip hop itself. Since he was 4 years old, Gary has been diligently working on perfecting his passion. His surroundings and family have enabled him to become a complete, multifaceted performing artist. Over the years, Houston has released a number of recordings including 3 successful independent projects (Corruption 1-3) and one compilation mix tape. He has been featured in Jenesis Magazine (online) as one of the Top Three artists that are in "Popular Demand," Gary is constantly growing his fan-base with what he likes to call the "E-merican Experience." In the UK, Gary has been twice featured in NME Magazine, and performed in front of a sell-out crowd at the prestigious Jazz Cafe in Camden, London. He believes "you can be anything you want to be. I just want people to dare to be different. You can't let society define you. Most listeners will only listen to what is deemed as being mainstream and by mainstream I mean "acceptable." Hip-Hop is a culture, a lifestyle that has many forms and includes people from all walks of life. I want people who listen to my music to experience that first hand. I want to change lives…not just minds." Refusing to live up to anyone else’s image of what he “should be”, Houston continues to push his own personal limits daily and vows to never fall into the surroundings that just keep him comfortable nor will he forget his mission with his success. Looking ahead to the future, Gary is gearing up for his latest project and first release in almost two years, The Collins LP. He hopes to continue expanding his reach at home and across the pond into Europe and Africa. Gary Michael Houston, is a gentleman to keep an eye and ear out for. He is destined for success not solely based on his heritage and talent, but also his work ethic and determination as he navigates the arena of music and leaves his imprint on society.LOST INTERVIEWS BECKY HILL S.2 E.6 'FOREVER YOUNG' Laura Alexandra in conversation with BECKY HILL.Hill talks about working in the studio with 'LITTLE MIX' and more.LISTEN to 'Forever Young' in ALIEN BOOTH at the end of this amzing interview. The Beatles kicked off sessions for Rubber Soul with a song John wrote based off a lyric lifted from an Elvis song. It's an interesting case that on a record where they tap into the idea that "the word is 'Love'" but close that record out with "Run For Your Life," perhaps the most aggressive and threatening song Lennon ever wrote. The lyrical content being at odds with all things "fab," it's a shame that a band so known for bringing joy and happiness never took the time to second guess what they were singing about on this track. It's the angrier, scarier version of the possessive side of himself on display later in "Jealous Guy." Disowned by Lennon himself in the 70s, and named as the worst Beatles song by NME Magazine, "Run For Your Life" is the rare severe misstep in the band's catalog. This week we're joined by Diana Erickson, co-host of The Beatles podcast "Another Kind of Mind," a podcast which presents a fresh, well-researched, irreverent, nuanced, and emotionally intelligent analyses of the Beatles' story. It's one of our favorite Beatle podcasts. We dive deep into the roots of the causes that enable someone to write a song with this kind of message, looking at the the yin and yang of personality that was John Lennon. What of that possessive side? Where does that intense feeling come from for John? We discuss the pros and cons of putting your faults out in the public eye, while also being brave enough to own up to those faults and work to overcome them in that same public forum. We also discuss how the AKOM team decided to shine a new light on the well-worn tale of the band, the complications of relationships and the effects they have, and the mutual upbringing of having no other Beatle-centric friends as a kid. Do yourselves a favor and subscribe to Another Kind of Mind anywhere you listen to podcasts. LOLA MARSH The duo from Tel Aviv stopped by to bring us their new album, Remember Roses and chat about their on going tour. Follow them here SIMON DOOM Simon Doom lead single “I Feel Unloved” premiered on Noisey.com and has since been featured on Spotify's New Music Friday and named one of the best songs of 2017 by NME Magazine. As John Hill from Clrvynt.com put it in the streaming premiere for Babyman “Doom has nailed down how to imbue a song with both undeniable catchiness and rich atmosphere”. The record, which was co-produced by Andrew Vanwyngarden and Ben Goldwasser (both of MGMT) is Simon O’Connor’s post-baby record much in the way In Utero was for Kurt Cobain or Smoke Rings For My Halo for Kurt Vile. That sort of perspective can either kill an artist or push him to new creative heights. Babymanundoubtedly puts Simon Doom in the latter category. ROCKY SANDOVAL R&B crooner, Rocky Sandoval is on a whole new level. Having spent over a decade in the industry and seeing multiple "breaks", he's hit the reset button a bit and picked up a new sound. He stops by to bring us his new single "Still In Love" produced by The Stereotypes and chats about his journey. Follow him here
