So Worlds of Wayne has been going for over 10 years now and as I started a new business last year, I contemplated letting go of this show. As time went on, I remembered all the fond memories I have had hosting and interviewing some pretty amazing folks over the years. So it is with great pleasure for me to say that I will be continuing the show. It'll have a little different format, one that fits my worlds a little better. In this episode, I welcome my lovely wife Laurie as my cohost. We did the 5 O'clock Lifestyle Podcast together, but quit that when I quit drinking. So this is a way to combine the best of both worlds. We talk about the show revamp, our adventures with our new business Dungeon Crate, OEAAs, troubles with facebook, psychic readings, and our Friday Morning Movie Club with a review of John Wick 2. Enjoy.

Tara Vaughn is not only talented and beautiful, she’s a full-time working musician. Not many locals can say that. One of the most fascinating things about her is that she’s insanely charming, but when you hear her perform, it’s her phenomenal voice and soulful songs that transform her from playful conversationalist to star-quality musician. Vaughn launched a successful Kickstarter to partially fund her new record “Dandelion Wine,” a record she somehow managed to write and record between tours with the McGuigan roadshow bands “Rave On,” “Yesterday and Today,” and “Rock Legends.” In fact, she found time to head down to Nashville and track with a notable producer (listen to the podcast to find out who). She’s currently looking forward to a break in her touring schedule to celebrate the release of her new 10-song full length. On the podcast she talks about her touring, recording in Nashville, haunted gigs, milk from friends, and the comfort of no-pants interviews. In this episode I welcome Pleiades and the Bear. For those of you not up on your astronomy, it's pronounced "Play-it-ease." The band is not even a year in and they are already causing a stir, and for good reason. Lush, 4-part harmonies, an assortment of instruments, thoughtful songwriting, and a rootsy/folk/Americana vibe that trancends those same genres makes this the kind of group that will turn heads and hush rooms wherever they play. The band is currently on tour supporting their second album “Too.” Guitarist and vocalist Elvis Kuehn and drummer Max Kuehn are the sons of Greg Kuehn, keyboardist for Long Beach punk legends "T.S.O.L." while Zac Carper (vocals/guitar) is the son of famed surfboard designer John Carper. It was only three years after laying down their first song ideas in the studio that this LA band was finding themselves on tour with the Hive as well as the Black Lips. Their second album shows a growth in songwriting, creative direction, and production, mainly due to the band experimenting in a different studio environment. In this interview, Kuehn talks about the different approach to writing and recording “Too” as well as how much fun and work it is to produce the band’s off the wall videos. In this episode I'm in the car driving back from Lincoln where I sat in on a gig with Krista Detor and Dave Weber. We had just played the Barley St. Tavern the night before and had a truly magical show along with bass player Craig Balderston. We finally got to do an interview in the car on the way back. We talk about her new reording, touring Europe, and how gifts of firearms aren't quite the same as an engagement ring. With her highly acclaimed album, Mudshow (“a small miracle” Rolling Stone), Krista Detor was established as a gifted player on the world stage. Together with partner and producer, David Weber, she continues to push the edges of genre while remaining close throughout to the lyrical thread that defines her work. She has reached #1 on the Euro-Americana chart and her music has been featured at the Cannes Film Festival, on NPR, PBS, the BBC, as well as countless U.S. and European national, regional, and local radio shows. She has appeared on both U.S. and European television and collaborated on the CD and stage show Wilderness Plots, which has received rave reviews, became a PBS special and was honored by both houses of the Indiana Legislature for contributions to the arts. In this episode, I welcome back once again Matt Whipkey. Matt is releasing a new record called "Underwater" and stops by to share some tunes. We talk about putting records out on vinyl, songwriting, and his legendary hair. Matt Whipkey online Whipkey on facebook Opening song: "You Are Strong" by Ryleigh Welsh Bio tetx: Very real people live at the heart of Matt Whipkey’s new LP, “Underwater”. Unlike 2013’s historical fiction character study, “Penny Park…” Whipkey turns his songwriter’s eye onto individuals in his own life. While this exploration of lost love, friendship, death and indulgence is personal in nature, its meditation on emotional struggle is definitively universal. Throughout "Underwater”, Whipkey realizes we all have a Maryclare, Hunter B. , Gary Flanagan, Kathleen and Sam in our own story. They live with us, guide us, challenge us, elate us and let us down. They occupy our daily lives, memories and dreams. Matt Whipkey invites you to not only meet these men and women of his world, but to let them mirror the many who shape yours. Over the past three years, few songwriters rival Whipkey’s creative output. On the heels of the rock and roll collection “Two Truths” and the award winning double LP, “Penny Park: Omaha, NE: Summer 1989”, Whipkey releases, "Underwater”, his third full length in as many years. For Whipkey, each release informs and challenges the next. Benefiting from this self imposed game of musical one-upsmanship, “Underwater” presents his strongest set to date. Quotes: Keep the lazy i one and strike the other two, Add this one from Rock NYC Matt Whipkey is the future of rock and roll. He is a storyteller and a song spinner, his songs winking at the mythic. Naughty, irreverent, sexy, dorky, and hilarious, Caitlin Little was born to sing Karaoke, host fake award shows, and live the dream of the Omaha Famous. In this epiode I welcome Colorado based band Sarah and the Meanies. On tour, they stopped by for a chat and some live performances. A great band and a fun podcast. Opening song: "Down Deep Down" Sarah and the Meanies Sarah and the Meanies website Sarah and the Meanies on facebook Sarah and the Meanies on bandcamp Bio A melting pot of soul / pop / rock, Sarah & The Meanies have emerged from the burgeoning Denver music scene. Fronted by Portland-transplant, Sarah Angela, who has a voice to be reckoned with and an arsenal of powerful songwriting to back it up. Within a year of formation, The Meanies have headlined Red Rocks Amphitheatre "Film On The Rocks" and were featured artists at Austin's South by Southwest 2014. The band wrapped recording their new single with Bill Stevenson/Jason Livermore at The Blasting Room (Rise Against, Flobots, Gaslight Anthem, Train, Lydia) and the song is now available on iTunes / Spotify . Hands off the ground and buried in a lifetime of musical obsession, Meanies front-woman, Sarah Angela, has roots that run wide. You might reference the styles of Lorde, Otis Redding, Grace Potter, or Sia; but despite some of her influences, she's got her own unique sound. One thing's for sure, she sings bigger and louder than her five foot frame would have you assume.
