Mechanochemistry, using purely mechanical processes to run a reaction, is much less known in the chemical world, but has been around since the ancient Greek Theophrastus described a mechanochemical process. We describe the history of mechanochemistry from then through its rediscovery by Michael Faraday, and the first systematic attempts to understand it by Mathew Carey Lea. He got into a dispute with Walthère Spring over "first rights" to publication. The 20th century was when mechanochemistry was examined in great detail, both in the Soviet Bloc and then by Westerners in the later part of the century. We talk of various topics in mechanochemistry.Support the Show. Support my podcast at https://www.patreon.com/thehistoryofchemistry Tell me how your life relates to chemistry! Alright no jokes with this one at all. I was looking through Previews one month and there's this cover just staring at me. Barbaric. Such a simple name. Such an enticing cover. What's not to love? You know, unless you hate cool looking comics and/or getting in at the start of the story of something like this. Enter Michael Moreci, writer of Barbaric, coming to talk about his wonderful series. Especially this second arc, Axe to Grind. I'll be perfectly honest with you about this one in saying that I can't over sell it because this thing is soooooooooooooooo good. The comic, not this episode. I don't deserve as many O's as the comic does. While you're checking things out, head over to the Wasted Space Kickstarter campaign as well. Learn such things as: How do you write an ongoing story when you know you essentially have to audition over and over at the end of each arc? How are children like a bloodthirsty cursed axe? How many different versions of the same comic issue is too many to have? And is that a different number if you were partially responsible for making it exist? And so much more! You can find on Twitter @MichaelMoreci and Instagram @michaelmoreci. And of course check out the Wasted Space Kickstarter campaign. If you want to be a guest on the show please check out the Be a A Guest on the Show page and let me know what you're interested in. If you want to help support the show check out the Play Comics Patreon page or head over to the Support page if you want to go another route. You can also check out the Play Comics Merch Store. This week's guest is Bob Shedd, one of the co-hosts of Axe to Grind Podcast & It Came From New Jersey. Today we are talking about Rival Schools' 2001 album, "United By Fate." You've found the Crowley Show and that ol son of a bitch Bobby Kraft likes his happy endings! Great original Kraft joke that noone else is making today. You know who didn't have a happy ending last night? The Pens and Phil Kessel. Crowley rips the latter much to the dismay of the rest of the show and then lays out what the lines need to be moving forward. Mark Kaboly then hops on the program to burst the bubble on some of the national narratives out there that are painting Big Ben in an unfair negative light. James Harrison says the same thing about Mike Tomlin and the Steelers about every other month. Crowley talks about him and that axe he has to grind.
Tom Sheehan is the vocalist of two amazing New York hardcore bands – Indecision and Most Precious Blood. He's also one of the three hosts of a rad hardcore podcast called Axe To Grind. He was in the Northwest on vacation this week, so we asked him to join us in studio for an interview. Enjoy and listen to his bands and podcast!
