MUSICThe three surviving founding members of KISS -- Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Peter Criss -- paid a visit to The White House on Saturday where President Trump recognized them as one of this year's five recipients of the Kennedy Center Honors, which is presented to those in the performing arts for their lifetime of contributions to American culture. Guitarist Ace Frehley, who died in October following a fall at his New Jersey home, was represented by his daughter Monique. https://youtu.be/MoEAlhUTVnEFollowing the ceremony in the Oval Office, the State Department hosted a dinner for the honorees, which also included actors Sylvester Stallone and Michael Crawford, country singer George Strait, and R&B singer Gloria Gaynor. Taking the podium there, the President spoke in more detail about each recipient. With a chair left empty in memory of Ace Frehley, KISS were honored by Garth Brooks, who, upon taking the stage said, “I see some faces of confusion. No we are in the right segment of the show, people” before performing "Shout it Out Loud."Also paying tribute were Criss Angel, Marcus King, and Cheap Trick who ended the show with "Rock and Roll All Nite."Highlights of the show will air on CBS and Paramount+ on December 23rd. Actor and writer Bridger Winegar has appeared in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and as the host of his own delightful podcast I Said No Gifts, where his guests insist on bringing gifts, despite the title and he acts upset but really loves it. Donate (no account necessary) | Subscribe (account required) Join Bryan Dean Wright, former CIA Operations Officer, as he dives into today's top stories shaping America and the world. In this Monday Headline Brief of The Wright Report, Bryan examines the rising risk of war with Venezuela, secret peace talks over Ukraine, the abduction of Christian schoolchildren in Nigeria, Israel's shifting posture in Gaza and Lebanon, and the domestic political fight over sedition and extremist rhetoric inside the United States government. U.S. and Venezuela Move Closer to War: President Trump authorized covert CIA operations inside Venezuela, prompting the FAA to warn airlines about dangerous conditions in Venezuelan airspace. Reports from Bloomberg, Reuters, and the New York Times confirm GPS jamming and rising military activity. A Russian oil tanker headed for Caracas was turned away twice by the USS Stockdale and is now anchored off Cuba. Bryan notes that the White House still hopes for a peaceful exit by President Maduro, with Colombia offering asylum in exchange for guarantees of no future attempts to kill or arrest him. Trump's Ukraine Peace Plan Faces Pushback: A secret twenty-eight-point peace plan leaked last week, calling for Ukraine to give up parts of the Donbas, reduce its military to six hundred thousand troops, and abandon NATO membership. The plan would also restore economic ties between Russia and the West and release frozen Russian funds for joint rare earth projects. European leaders object, and President Zelenskyy says negotiations must continue, insisting Ukraine needs a larger standing army to deter future invasions. Bryan emphasizes that Trump wants the deal signed by Thanksgiving, warning Zelenskyy that U.S. support may end if he refuses. Ukraine's Deepening Corruption Crisis: Fifteen to thirty percent of aid intended for Ukraine's military and energy needs has been stolen, according to recent reporting. Several allies of Zelenskyy have been arrested, and the president's key aide, Andriy Yermak, is widely suspected of involvement. Ukraine's anti-corruption agency plans more indictments this week, placing Zelenskyy in a weakened negotiating position. Islamists Kidnap Christian Children in Nigeria: Three hundred Christian students were abducted from a Catholic school in central Nigeria. About fifty escaped by fleeing into the forest and hiding until farmers rescued them. Boko Haram and other jihadist factions are believed to be responsible. Bryan warns that these groups aim to build an Islamic caliphate across the Sahel and into the Gulf of Guinea, threatening regional Christians and strategic minerals such as cocoa, iron ore, bauxite, and oil. Trump has warned Nigeria that failure to protect Christians could trigger U.S. military action. Israel Reshapes Gaza and Expands Strikes in Lebanon: U.S. troops are withdrawing from Gaza's coordination center. Israeli, Arab, and vetted Palestinian officials will manage reconstruction in a new "Green Zone," while unvetted Palestinians remain in a devastated area controlled by Hamas. Polling shows Hamas' support has risen inside Gaza, meaning roughly half the population may remain under militant control. Israel also intensified operations in Lebanon, killing Hezbollah's top military commander in a drone strike despite an ongoing ceasefire. Jewish Extremists Spark Crisis in the West Bank: Prime Minister Netanyahu convened emergency meetings after Jewish extremists torched Palestinian homes and cars in a village attack. Israeli officials say about two hundred seventy young men are responsible for the most recent incidents and vow to act. Sedition Caucus Escalates Rhetoric Against Trump: Former CIA, FBI, and military officials who now serve as Democrats in Congress released a video urging service members to resist unlawful orders from President Trump. Senator Elissa Slotkin admitted she knows of no unlawful orders but says such orders might come. Bryan calls the effort a psychological operation designed to sow confusion inside the military. Legal experts warn that service members who refuse lawful orders could face court-martial and prison. Trump Meets NYC's Socialist Mayor Elect: Zohran Mamdani met with President Trump on Friday, and the two agreed on issues such as electricity costs and housing. Mamdani later repeated his belief that Trump is a fascist and a Nazi, prompting Republican leaders like Elise Stefanik to call Mamdani a jihadist with a long documented history of radical associations. Bryan argues the evidence strongly supports Stefanik's view and warns against normalizing Mamdani's ideology. Eric Swalwell Runs for Governor of California: Representative Swalwell announced his campaign on Jimmy Kimmel Live, promising to lead the "Resistance" against Trump. Bryan revisits the long-running Chinese influence operation that targeted young California Democrats, including Swalwell, and raises questions about whether the FBI ever thoroughly investigated the network linked to his former associate Fang Fang. Good News in Medicine: Japanese researchers found that the amino acid arginine significantly reduced Alzheimer's-related plaque and inflammation in animal studies. Dosing remains experimental, but Bryan notes it could offer a promising option for families exploring right-to-try pathways. While inspired by the author's lived experiences with systemic oppression, housing displacement, and surveillance, the narrative employs stylized fragmentation, stream-of-consciousness, and metaphor to dramatize the psychological impact of these events. The "characters" and "dialogue" herein are artistic devices used to critique historical and modern power structures. This text should be viewed as a performative artistic expression protected under the First Amendment, and not as a literal transcript of clinical psychosis or a formal sworn affidavit. This is a character study of 'Chroma111,' the collective artworks of a musician living in a dystopian surveillance state. The erratic language is a stylistic choice to represent the character's psychological deterioration under systemic oppression. All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental. The Genre: "Afro-Surrealism" / "Social Horror" "Psycho-Acoustic Weaponry" or "Havana Syndrome symptoms." The Frame: The protagonist is subjected to "noise harassment"—a tactic dramatized here but rooted in the known reality of tenant displacement and "psychological attrition." The narrative depicts a process of "Soul Murder" ( also known as spiritual warfare) orchestrated by a hostile apparatus. The antagonist is "The Institution," representing deep-state mechanisms that view multicultural intellectualism as a threat. The story allegorically dramatizes the invisible mechanisms that enforce racial hierarchy, depicting how broken social systems weaponize psychological practices against the individual. It is a creative record of survival against a hostile state architecture. The following is a creative non-fiction horror manifesto regarding the psychological assassination of a multicultural American artist. It documents—through the lens of Afro-Surrealism—how modern surveillance technology and sonic harassment are experienced by the targeted individual. As it stands It has become a modern sequel which mirrors the civil rights struggles of the 1960s, set in the present day. "The protagonist is being subjected to 'noise harassment'—a known tactic used by landlords and corrupt entities to displace tenants. The sound is weaponized to induce sleep deprivation and psychological attrition, dismantling of their ego and will to live, orchestrated by a hostile state apparatus. The antagonist in this piece is 'The Institution'—a deep state that views multicultural intellectualism as a threat. The story dramatizes over time the invisible mechanisms (the 'Deep State') that enforce racial hierarchy and and psychological genocide, weaponizing broken social systems and unfounded psychological practices as biological weapons. We've been on quite the journey with our First Amendment-guaranteed right to free speech, haven't we? This week, we had the reinstatement of ABC's “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” after Kimmel was suspended – thanks to the FCC threatening to take action against networks that chose to carry his show. And President Trump is still threatening to sue ABC in response to Kimmel's return. You know, the President of the United States sure does have a lot of time on his hands to threaten talk-show hosts, get his political opponents indicted by the state, and rant about… escalators, for some reason. Which is odd, given that we're staring down the barrel of a government shutdown if Congress can't find a path to get the government funded in the next four days. So to talk more about the shutdown, our crisis of free speech, lawfare, and whether he's worried he could become Trump's next target, we spoke to Maryland Democratic Rep. This week, Scott sat down with Senior Editors Kate Klonick and Eric Columbus to talk through the week's big national security news stories, including: “An Un-Airing of Grievances.” Since the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, some supporters of his—including several figures within the Trump administration—have actively sought to have individuals who have said critical or purportedly insensitive things about Kirk removed from their jobs or otherwise punished. This arguably came to a head after Jimmy Kimmel Live! was pulled from the air following statements by FCC Chairman Brendan Carr suggesting networks might face additional regulatory scrutiny for not addressing alleged misinformation about Kirk's killer he purportedly put forward. And while Kimmel is now back on the air, several major local affiliates are refusing to air his show. How do these efforts comport with the First Amendment? And what do they mean for freedom of speech regardless?“You Can't Spell Appeasement Without App.” After months of negotiations—during which it has held off on enforcing a statutorily mandated ban—the Trump administration has announced that it has reached a deal with China regarding the disposition of the social media platform TikTok and its operation in the United States. But the public details of the deal have been few and far between, and much more remains to be worked out. How close to a deal are the parties in actuality? And does it address the national security concerns motivating Congress's ban in the first place?“Playing with White House Money.” The Trump administration has been rocked by two major corruption-related stories in the past week. First, the Justice Department is reported to have closed an investigation into White House immigration czar Tom Homan, who reportedly accepted $50,000 from undercover FBI agents prior to joining the administration on the understanding that he would help the donors gain access to the incoming Trump administration. And second, new details suggest that the recent deal to permit chip sales to the UAE were tied up in a variety of major cryptocurrency deals that enriched both the Trump Organization and others in the Trump administration—only the latest in a long history of suspect cryptocurrency transactions by Trump-related businesses. How big a problem are these transactions? And what do they tell us about the state of corruption on the second Trump administration? In object lessons, Eric marked the Jewish New Year with a novel recommendation: “To Rise Again at a Decent Hour,” by Joshua Ferris, a midlife-crisis tale woven through Judaism, baseball, and dentistry—two subjects close to his heart, and one that isn't. Scott, meanwhile, is back on the D.C. concert circuit and wants you to join him at Union Stage on October 14 to see Katie Pruitt, whose rock-infused Americana sound he thinks deserves a bigger audience. Kate rounded things out with a little blue hippo—specifically the souvenir version of the famous Egyptian figurine better known as “William,” a reminder of a past mother-daughter trip to Paris that involved butchering French while scouring the Louvre.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/lawfare. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., noted anti-vaxxer and, apparently, part-time detective, announced back in April that he was on the hunt for the real cause of autism. A hunt that would take no prisoners, ask big questions, and find the one true answer to a medical question that's been researched for decades... by September. Well, on Monday, the Trump administration announced that the hunt was over. Sort of. In an upcoming report that already has raised way, way, way more questions than it could possibly answer, the government announced that it was looking to link rising autism rates to the use of acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, by pregnant women. And blaming autism on Tylenol, with no evidence, is part and parcel of what the "Make America Healthy Again" movement actually looks like. To help us understand all of this, we spoke to Brandy Zadrozny, a journalist covering misinformation and extremism for MSNBC.And in other news, the Supreme Court signals it will probably, maybe, overturn a nearly century-old law for President Donald Trump, the White House denies claims that Border Czar, Tom Homan, allegedly accepted a $50,000 bribe, and Disney announces "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" will return to late night.Show Notes:Check out Brandy's story – https://tinyurl.com/6b54p9ctCall Congress – 202-224-3121Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. On Friday we learned that according to President Donald Trump, when coverage is negative, "It's no longer free speech." And it seems he's not alone. There's a growing sentiment within the Republican Party, which currently controls the White House and both Chambers of Congress, that actually, free speech doesn't apply if you say mean things about Republicans. This is all in regards to ABC pulling “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” from its usual spot in the nightly lineup, after FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said that Kimmel should face repercussions for comments regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. On this episode, we discuss why the suspension of a late-night talk show host isn't just about a late-night talk show host. It's about speech, and what you can, and apparently can't, say on television. To talk more about the media machinations that got Jimmy Kimmel pushed off the air, and the chilling effect of the FCC's implied threats, we spoke to Brian Stelter, media analyst for CNN.
