Rob and Ted sit down with Brian Bell of Calvary Murrieta to talk through what church leadership looks like in a generation that looks very different from the one before it. They cover the real challenges pastors are navigating today, such as declining attendance, the grip of club sports on midweek schedules, and a broader cultural drift that has made shepherding a congregation more demanding than ever. They each share how they've adjusted both their mindsets and churches' approaches, and together offer some grounded, practical thinking for leaders facing the same pressures.--- Calvary Vista Reliance ChurchCalvary Murrieta

For more than a year, a seven-foot creature with glowing red eyes and folded wings terrorized Point Pleasant, West Virginia—and just weeks after the sightings stopped, the Silver Bridge collapsed and killed 46 people, leaving the town to wonder whether the Mothman had been a monster, a warning, or something far worse.EPISODE BLOG PAGE (includes sources and full transcript): https://weirddarkness.com/RedEyesOfMothmanREAD or DOWNLOAD the full transcript of this episode:https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/2p8s2fxtFEATURED STORIES IN THIS EPISODE: Most everyone is familiar with the King James Bible, but did you know that King James also wrote a book on demonology during the witch hunts and trials? Copyright ©2026, Weird Darkness.Originally aired: November 15, 2021This episode of Weird Darkness, hosted by Darren Marlar, moves from a winged cryptid haunting a West Virginia river town to a Georgia teenager found dead inside a rolled wrestling mat, a Minnesota newlywed who vanished from a restaurant parking lot, and a king of England who wrote a manual on demons. It opens with the Mothman, first reported on November 15, 1966, when two young married couples driving past an abandoned World War II TNT plant near Point Pleasant, West Virginia, spotted a six- or seven-foot gray figure with folded wings and glowing red eyes that rose into the air and pursued their car down Highway 62 at over 100 miles per hour. That same night, contractor Newell Partridge of Salem watched his television fill with a strange pattern before his dog Bandit chased two red eyes toward the hay barn and disappeared forever, and the next day Roger Scarberry described passing a large dog's body near the city limits that was gone minutes later. Over the following year roughly 100 people, including Marcella Bennett, reported the creature alongside UFO sightings and men in black, and on December 15, 1967, the 700-foot Silver Bridge linking Point Pleasant to Ohio collapsed during rush hour and killed 46 people, cementing the belief that the Mothman had been a harbinger of the disaster. From there the episode turns to Kendrick Johnson, the 17-year-old three-sport athlete found dead on January 11, 2013, stuffed head-down inside a rolled wrestling mat in the old gym at Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia. Investigators ruled the death an accidental positional asphyxia, theorizing the boy fell in reaching for a shoe, but his 19-inch shoulders could not fit through the mat's 14-inch opening, an hour of footage from all four gym cameras was missing and altered, and his organs were found removed and replaced with newspaper. A second and third autopsy revealed blunt force trauma to his neck and right chest, a fabricated confession recording sold to his family for $1,000 was exposed as a hoax by Sheriff Ashley Paulk, and the case, which once entangled FBI agent Randy Bell's sons Brandon and Brian Bell, was officially reopened on March 10, 2021.Vanishing from a restaurant parking lot is what happened next to Jerrilyn Mullins, a 28-year-old Oakdale, Minnesota, newlywed who left the dinner table at a Chi Chi's in Richfield around 9:00 p.m. on November 15, 1978, and was last seen by her husband's coworker Patrick Melbourne, who said he drove her 22 miles back to a Howard Johnson's and left her there. Her decomposed body surfaced in a Lake Elmo swamp on June 30, 1979, identified through dental records and jewelry, with two autopsies unable to determine a cause of death though her stomach contents placed her killing within an hour of leaving the restaurant. Melbourne, who carried a long record of sexual assault allegations and was later convicted of crimes against a 10-year-old girl, remained the prime suspect; husband Ron Mullins lost a 1989 wrongful-death civil suit for lack of evidence, and the Washington County case stayed unsolved when Melbourne died in 2015.The episode closes with King James VI and I, who returned from a 1589 trip to Denmark obsessed with witchcraft and published Daemonologie in 1597, the only treatise of its kind written by a reigning monarch. In its pages he catalogued the signs of demonic possession, describing superhuman strength exceeding six men, iron-hard skin that could not be pierced, and victims speaking languages they never learned, while arguing that demons inhabit the corpses of the pious and that only prayer and fasting, not Catholic ritual, could repel them. He acknowledged werewolves as men suffering an excess of melancholy rather than cursed creatures, dismissed fairies as illusions sent by the Devil, fixed the ratio of female to male witches at 20 to 1 by reasoning that women were more easily deceived as Eve had been, and produced a work that fueled the European and colonial witch hunts and shaped the weird sisters of William Shakespeare's Macbeth.

In this episode, Part II of the three part Pitch Deck Tear Down Series, Venture Capitalist Brian Bell from Ignite Ventures, sits down with first-time founder Shane Pope for a candid, real-time review of his startup. You'll hear exactly how a venture investor thinks through an early-stage opportunity, where founders often overestimate how ready they are to raise, and what signals make a startup more compelling before major traction shows up. This conversation gets into the details investors care about most: the size and clarity of the problem, why now, how the company will grow, and whether the founder can convincingly own this market. If you're trying to understand the difference between pitching an angel investor and pitching a VC, this series gives you a front-row seat. Each episode reveals a different lens on what investors want and what founders need to tighten before fundraising. The sad news first - Horse of the Year, Patches O'Houlihan could not be saved. Saturday at Woodbine, a mind-boggling daily double produced by apprentice rider, Xarel Forde and a sweep of 2 Stakes races by veteran Rafael Hernandez. Jockey Flavien Prat did something no other rider has done in the 162-year history at Saratoga Trainer Randy Harris was back in the winners circle at Mohawk for the 1st time in 10 years. Garnet Barnsdale made a remarkable prediction last week about a 2-year-old pacer named Beau Jangles – and we ask Dr. Ian Moore is this horse as good as Barnsdale says he is? Then on Saturday, the Moore-trained Prince Hal Hanover came in 1st in the Meadowlands Pace, only to be disqualified and just how ironic was that? They ran the Gridiron Classic at Ajax Downs - it took less than 7 seconds, and 2 wins by Brian Bell meant free ice cream for the fans. And we give you 7 reasons to go to Mohawk this week to bet on horses in their race book.
We've got Saturday's Alywow Stakes from Woodbine which went to an invader; and from Friday's card. Apprentice Xarel Forde became the first jockey in Canadian history with a name beginning with X to score a hat trick. Same day, veteran rider, Slade Callaghan won in his first race back. The great Emma-Jayne Wilson joins us to talk about what it feels like to win a race again and what her twin daughters, Grace and Avery think about what mommy does. Chelsea Hackbarth is the editor in chief for the Paulick Report and she informs us about ICE agents arresting 84 undocumented workers from the backstretch of Delta Downs in Louisiana. Brian Bell recorded his 800th win at Ajax Downs and explains why it's much harder to put up big numbers in quarter horse racing. Also, why did we compare him to the Shawshank Redemption's Andy Dufresne? Good on Woodbine to quadruple their contribution to OSAS, the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Agency. Joanne Colville of OSAS tells us how important this was. And what do you think happened to the 5-horse named Five in a race at the Meadows on the 5th day of the week?
Em, Lindsay, and Brian Bell kick off PRIDE MONTH with a roundtable chat about their LGBTQI+ milestone moments in wrestling. From Chyna and Billy Gunn as chaotic bisexual gateways to Paris Is Bumping, Golden☆Lovers (of course), and more, we dive deep into what in wrestling has made us feel seen and included as queer fans. WE WANT YOUR STORIES TOO! Wanna share your LGBTQI+ wrestling milestone moment? Write us an email - or even better, record an audio clip - and send it to gritglitterpodcast@gmail.com Messages via Instagram welcome too! Stories will be shared throughout June to keep the Pride celebration going all month long!
There were 4 Stakes races at Woodbine Saturday and 4 wins for Eswan Flores. We've got 5 Grand Circuit races from Mohawk and a Camluck Classic at Western Fair that needed a disqualification to determine a winner. Big thrill for us as we got jockey Umberto Rispoli to chat about his amazing and controversial win on Journalism in the Preakness. We talk with Paul Souter, the next winner of the Avelino Gomez Award and we take in Opening Day at Fort Erie - trust us - jockey Jeffrey Alderson will enjoy our coverage. So will Brian Bell – the veteran quarter horse jockey had a big day at Ajax Downs.
