Erschienen am 25. April 2025 bei EMI/Universal. Unser Review. “Stereophonics haben mit Ihrem neuen Album ein wunderbares Werk geschaffen. Von Ihrem gewohnten Sound spürt man eine Menge. Doch man bekommt auch noch etwas mehr: Americana, Südstaaten-Flair mit Brit-Rock wie man es haben will. Opulente Vielfalt gibt es on top. Also zumindest auf Platte. „Do I Wanna Know... all about the Arctic Monkeys? Wer diese Frage mit „Hell Yeah!“ beantwortet, ist bei dieser Folge genau richtig. In Episode #103ArcticMonkeys kommt mit Philipp Kressmann ein absoluter Indie-Experte und Fan der ersten Stunde vorbei. Alex Turner, Jamie Cook und Nick O'Malley aus der Band erzählen von ihren großen Alben. Jetzt überall, wo es Podcasts gibt.
We really cover ground on this one: prog goes pop on Rush's Power Windows, 2010s Britrock goes horribly wrong when The Blackout Start the Party, American Football reinvent emo on LP1, and black metal's most comforting album in Agalloch's The Mantle. This episode was originally published February 2024 on patreon.com/thatsnotmetal.

Welcome once again, we're at the penultimate episode folks! The Britrock theme / Gaz interviewing his all-time idols continues this week, as in the hotseat is China Drum(ming) legend, Mr Adam Lee!! Goosefair has barely left my playing device of choice since its release in 1996. A perfect amalgamation of Husker Du and Leatherface, they released some of the greatest singles of the era. Adams' choices reflect his tastes perfectly, with songs by Wonder Stuff, The Posies and the aforementioned Leatherface. Tons of Drum chat too, from slaying Reading Fest in 1996, to 3 Camden gigs in one evening to promote your sophomore release, the triumphant reunion shows and what the future golds in 2023. Movie theater snack purveyor and 60's BritRock enjoyer Hot Buttered Popcorn (of Twitter fame) joins us for Episode 23; discussing The Kinks' 1969 song Shangri-La. The song, relevant today more than ever, was a sleeper when it was released 50 years ago. The Kinks sarcastically poke fun at normie mentality and the inflexibility of middle-classism and beg the question, what if it's all fake? Resonant with the ennui middle class men in the west wrestle with every day, the song also alludes to this being the cause of the Decline and Fall of the British Empire. Is it over? Has the West fallen? Is there a way to break from this stymied existence? Listen in and find out (spoiler alert: there is). Skin, Nona Hendryx and Paolo Nutini discuss writing songs in your dreams, knowing when to grab at an idea, why playing piano can take you to places you have no right to go, and fighting on stage. Skin grew up in a Jamaican family in Brixton, London, and as a child, wanted to be a pianist. She formed Skunk Anansie in 1994 and they became pioneers of the Britrock scene, speaking out against racism, homophobia and sexism. She was also the first Black artist to headline the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury Festival when the band performed there in 1999. Vocalist, songwriter, producer, author and actress Nona Hendryx was a member of the pioneering girl group Labelle in the 1960s and 1970s. Since then, her avant-garde solo career has taken in everything from hard rock to RnB to house music, and she intends to become a cyborg and still make music. Following an 8 year absence from the music scene, Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini is back with his latest project Last Night in the Bittersweet, and pop superstar Lewis Capaldi has declared himself a huge fan.
My youngest guest makes a welcome return to the rock show. This one is Brit Rock. All the bands hail from the British Isles.
History is littered with bands that went “experimental” for one album and then broke up after said album. A lot of the time, fans and press assume that the reasons for that are simply because they couldn't stand the rejection from their fans. That's not always the case. Formed in 1989, The Drum also go by the name China Drum. If you were around in the 90s and read musi mags or followed the Britrock scene at the time, the name China Drum is probably familiar to you. At the end of the 90s, they decided to embrace new technology and new songwriting techniques (spurred by the addition of a fourth member). The result was a radically different sound, which led them to change their name to The Drum and release their third/debut album Diskin. It's a very different prospect in comparison to the pop punk tinged alt-rock of their previous two albums - Goosefair and Self Made Maniac - but the result is, we feel, thrilling. On this episode we dive inside the band's career and this album, complete with some first hand testimony from singer Adam Lee himself.

"Hvis man roder i en hvilken som helst genbrugsbutik, så kan næsten altid finde cd'en... jeg har en lille samling, for jeg kan ikke have, at de bare ligger dér!" Signe Trøst Jørgensen er sygeplejestuderende og har været vild med rockmusik siden de spæde teenageår. Særligt definerende blev britrockerne Suede og deres sortromantiske hymne til alle udstødte og fremmedgjorte, "Trash", fra det storsælgende album Coming Up (1996). Let's head back to the heartland of the podcast for an episode on Terrorvision's 1994 sophomore offering How to Make Friends and Influence People. Back to the time when the burgeoning Britpop scene had a somewhat smaller BritROCK sibling. Simon and Boyd put any impartiality to one side and head back to younger days to gush over the band's incredibly long-titled effort in much the same way that that era's UK rock magazines did. They've hit upon a run of three consecutive Top 10 albums and On Torpedo we find the band emerging from one of the most inspired periods of their career. The last year's downtime gifted the band extra time to play with demos, experiment with textures and re-discover what they loved about writing music together again. They return inspired by the new - and craving that feeling of excitement of being a band again. In this interview, Grant Nicholas talks about their brand-new album Torpedo, songwriting, upcoming shows and much more.

COLIN HODGKINSON is the quintessential pioneering British blues-jazz-rock bassist. He fronted the bass-driven band Back Door, and worked with a 'who's who' of BritRock, including Alexis Korner, Spencer Davis, Whitesnake, and Ten Years After. Particularly fun to talk about his and my experiences working with the great Jan Hammer. Lots of history to cover with Colin!
Welcome to the Further. Faster. Podcast in association with Montane. The host Daniel Neilson speaks to ultra-athletes, mountaineers, climbers and explorers to talk about how they do what they do and why they do it. This episode's guest is a climber, an exceptional climber, but one who has been described as 'controversial' and 'notorious'. Notorious for the new routes he's achieved, and notorious for the risks he takes – sometimes leading to unimaginably huge falls. Perhaps it was this notoriety that led filmmaker Al Lee to focus his lens on Franco Cookson for his forthcoming film "Fall Theory." In a thoroughly entertaining interview, they discuss why he takes such great risks, the mindset it takes to make a fall, and why the North York Moors is the centre of the universe. It's a fun one... What a way to go, we're still ranking for a bus that we missed years ago! The Black Band T-Shirt chaps are back with another Top 5 episode, this time doing their favourite songs of Mancunian progsters Oceansize! We'll update our Spotify Rank Bank playlist shortly after release with our Top 5s and tracks from some of our favourites at Portals festival, engorging this already 500+ song behemoth. Skunk Anansie have sold millions of albums. Paranoid and Sunburnt, their debut, was released to wide acclaim and arrived in the post-grunge period where the UK was in the thrall of Britpop, but what is the band's legacy? Many of the bands that came out around about this time that didn't fall into the Britpop category were loosely termed Britrock, and Skunk Anansie were one of the biggest, and most interesting of the lot. Sonically, they had more in common with bands like RATM and Faith No More than anything this side of the Atlantic, but they were a breath of fresh air when they arrived, bringing the politics of race, class and sexuality to the forefront of their music and their message. They released 3 albums in the 90s before vanishing, resurfacing in the late 00s. Their output since then hasn't quite reached the heights of this interesting (if now dated) debut, but there's still a few songs to love throughout their more recent 3 albums. On this episode we talk about the band's history and what they mean in the wider lexicon of British rock music. We also talk a little about how, despite being huge at the time, they seem to be a little “forgotten” by many people. As ever, we talk about the band's back a catalogue too. Next week, we'll talk more about Skin and the album itself.
The possible future of Babymetal is pondered, Bloodstock tips given, Lingua Ignota's puritan nightmare album Sinner Get Ready tops an eclectic reviews batch with Gost and Lantlôs, and Album Club is Britrock heroes Funeral for a Friend's underrated hardcore turn Conduit.
Bei Zeilen wie "My computer thinks I'm gay, I threw that piece of junk away" kommt aber auch er ins Stottern.Die Playlist zur Folge: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4xiWBuUrrcQKXOGAOB2zf4?si=dc59afbeaaf44ed3

Welcome one and all to the Track One Side One Podcast! This weeks guest is a massive one for me, in regards to musical influences in my formative years. Wojtek was the bassist and primary songwriter in Symposium, who for my money, were the best live band of the whole Britrock era in the late 90s. From playing Reading Festival 3 years running, to supporting Metallica, magazine covers across all of the rock and indie press, to performing on TFI Friday and Top Of The Pops, they did it all, backed up with an arsenal of total bangers like 'Farewell To Twilight', 'The Answer To Why I Hate You' and 'Disappear'. Being in my late teens, It was the perfect soundtrack to late nights and loud times. Woj has travelled the world playing music post Symposium too in Bjorn Again and also released his 2nd solo album in 2016. This is a truly wonderful chat, with LOT'S of Prog nattering from Mansun to Maiden to King Crimson, onto how the Batman soundtrack may well be Princes most under rated lp. I was truly humbled to have him on for a virtual chinwag and one of my musical heroes has been chalked off the dream guest list for the podcast. Here Serene and Steve run down the first six songs of what would figuratively be a double album on vinyl, the 24 Originals Happening Now album, which was modeled after a 1967 TV record album offer called 24 Original Happening Hits. This miracle of science crammed 24 songs onto two sides of vinyl by severely editing and prematurely fading out all your favorites, which K-Tel also did later on. Serene has a back history for each of the 24 made up groups he concocted for each selection. Musical genres covered on Side 1 include jangle-pop (Serene actually tried getting "Unfriend Me" to the Gin Blossoms with no success), Britrock, indie rock, glitter, lounge and white-boy reggae. Other topics of discussion include Esteban, the merits of the Kia Spectra EX, the question of whether Phil Spector is allowed to wear wigs in jail and how a movie might have killed off friends with benefits for everyone.Songs include "Unfriend Me," "The Lights Go Down and Out" "Independent Thought," "Sarsaparilla Lillian," "That Lounging" and "FWB (Friends With Benefits)."Click here to watch all 24 Original Happening Now Videos and subscribe to the Serene Dominic YouTube channel!Click here to stream the entire 24 Originals Happening Now! album.Click here to stream a Spotify playlist of the 24 Original Happening Hits! collection that inspired this album (only one song had to be substituted).Catch Serene Dominic's weekly livecast "The Human Torch Floor Show" every Thursday at 8:30 MST on facebook.com/serenedominic
This week we have two guests, Mark Richardson and Marcus Smith. Mark Richardson is the drummer for the band Skunk Anansie, a band that were figureheads of the Britrock explosion in the mid-nineties, with defining songs Weak and Hedonism and remain a highly influential band 25 years since they were formed. Dr Marcus Smith is Reader in Sport and Exercise Physiology at the University of Chichester, with background of supporting elite athletes, especially boxers to Olympic success but Marcus loves his music too and as you'll hear he became curious about how hard drummers work while on stage. This led to him contacting Clem Burke the drummer of Blondie and from there a fascinating project was struck up involving quantification of the physiological demand of performing Their work began to gain momentum and the Clem Burke Drumming Project was founded. And Mark Richardson got involved in the project because in music circles he was known as one of the most ferocious drummers about. In the conversation, Mark describes his early career, how he found drumming as an outlet, how exploring his own performance with Marcus has opened up his thinking and practice to a much healthier, sustainable way of approaching the demands of performing on stage or touring. They also both share some wonderful spin-offs that the project has had in supporting children with autism too (see the links below). Make sure you listen right to the end of the episode where you can listen to Mark performing the drumming for "Tear the place up" (courtesy of Skunk Anansie and reproduced with permission) This episode is sponsored by Junius, a multi-award winning, health food + drinks company. Episode 2B: Interviews Boston then Seattle Power Pop musician David Thompson. David started in Boston, MA with the "Amphetamine Pop" band The Pills (He started with Corin Ashley), his solo project The Scheme (With Bleu) and his current Power Pop band, Seattle's Pop Cycle. In Episode 2B we talk to David Thompson about:Why David writes so many songs about girlsHis experience at the Berklee College of MusicThe Boston music scene -vs- The Seattle music sceneA song that should be in a James Bond movieMusic by The Neighborhoods, Phil Seymour, The Vapors, The Outlets, Gigolo AuntsThis is the first in studio guest for the Hop On Power Pop Podcast. We end the Podcast with our take on the Proust/Inside The Actor's Studio 10 Questions about music. A fun filled hour of music, insight and Power Pop.
Episode 1: What Is Power Pop is a question that only a foolish person would attempt to answer. So, call us FOOLS! But we're music loving, geeky fools and we still have that blind childish ignorance that makes us fearless when we should know better. Nobody is going to answer the question, What is Power Pop?, in a way that will make everyone happy. It's impossible. But, in Episode 1, we'll try to give some insight, in an educational manner that will start you on the trail of what makes this genre so special. Note: Episode 1 is very different from all the other episodes that follow. There's no guest. There's not a specific focus on one band or even one song. It's a fast paced, sound effect filled amusement park ride. We wanted to keep the podcast FUN because it's FUN music.
Episode 3: HOPP RADIO: Beatles Inspired Songs & More is the first installation of our radio station. On a HOPP RADIO Episode we will play and discuss Power Pop music from lesser known music. It’s all great Power Pop music, but it’s probably from band’s you may not have heard about, unless you're really into this genre. At the risk of being redundant, we realize that Power Pop music is already “Unpopular Pop” music according to Jon Brion, but you probably won’t hear these songs on your FM radio. We wanted to give the spotlight to more independent artists who wouldn’t normally get the type of promotion you’d get if they were on one of the major record labels. So, if you like what you hear, support these artists and buy their music. On this Episode we feature music by:David Novotny (Czech Republic musician In The Beat-les Style)Stevie Riks (The Doo’s, famous Celebrity Impersonator)Addison Love (Thoughts On Lunch?)Vegas With Randolph (Legs & Luggage)Your Gracious Host (Boomerang)Young Beautiful In A Hurry (Royalty)Kai Danzberg (Not Only Sunshine)PLUS ALBUM REVIEWS:Wes Hollywood (Dynamite) by JessicaThe Glad Machine (The Glad Machine) by Nadja Dee
Episode 2A of HOP ON POWER POP Podcast, talks to Boston-Seattle based musician David Thompson (The Pills, The Scheme, The Pop Cycle) about the hotly argued topic What Makes A Song Power Pop? Hello and welcome to Further, Faster with Daniel Neilson and in association with Montane. In Further, Faster we have an in-depth conversation with explorers, mountaineers and athletes to understand exactly why, and how, they do what they do. What is it that pushes them to the limit of human endurance and why do they feel the need to do it. This time we’re speaking to Jesse Dufton. So who is Jesse? Well, he’s a climber. A good one. His dad first took him climbing at the 2. At the age of 11, he led his first route. His climbing life continued through his uni years, and then recently he led a climb on the Old Man of Hoy. So far, so impressive, but what you may not know about Jesse is that he is almost completely blind. His story, told in the film Climbing Blind, is touring now. Catch it at the Kendal Mountain Festival or on the BritRock tour. But first, listen in to his remarkable story.
On this week's What Now?, Gaby discusses Justin and Hailey Bieber's wedding, devotes her GABBING segment to Miley Cyrus & Cody Simpson (Let Miley Date Whoever She Wants!), and goes over a busy week in the world of OneDirection. Yes, that means a return of the This Week in Stan Twitter segment! All of this, plus this week's TOP OF THE BOPS is a Brit-Rock inspired bop by Niall Horan! Someone has been reading 2005 issues of NME Magazine lately...

Yourcodenameis:milo are one of the most fondly remembered bands which were part of the post hardcore influenced Britrock that made up the popular end of the British alternative music scene at the start of the century. And rightly so, they packed a ton of ideas into their music and were years ahead of most of their contemporaries when it came to the more technical aspects of the craft. This week we talk this album and the band’s history. Questions are asked about how they seemed to spring out of nowhere, releasing their music on major labels and then vanishing. Weaver gives us a history of the band and puts in an impassioned case for why this record needs to go into our discography. You can decide its fate by voting on our Facebook page.
Danny pours a big ol' mug of peppermint tea for his favourite band Ash (singer/guitarist Tim Wheeler, bassist Mark Hamilton and drummer Rick McMurray), as they talk about their new album 'Islands', their non-conventional practices for releasing music, and passing the torch to bands riding the next wave of Britrock. Along the way there's also chat about touring Japan, living in separate continents, the time they accidentally headlined Glastonbury as 19-year-olds, Star Wars and 'the girth of your cup'... yep, really. Raised on a diet of Queen and Nirvana in a small northern English town, the Jarman brothers - Ryan, Gary and Ross - knew they'd end up making music. What they could have never anticipated, however, is how far it would take them. From sleeping in vans to playing the main stages of the biggest festivals in the world, The Cribs have rolled with the punches for well over a decade - and they're not done yet. On their first tour of Australia in five years, the Jarmans locked in a half-hour of power to dissect the Wakefield punk scene, how The Sleepy Jackson kicked off their career and why you should never leash your dog to a power generator. The Cribs' latest album is entitled 24/7 Rock Star Shit. You can stream and download it from their Bandcamp: http://thecribs.bandcamp.com Thanks to Sarah Chipman at Title Track and to The Lansdowne.
