Jim Hill and Dan Graney sort through another packed week of Marvel news, from increasingly wild Avengers: Doomsday theories to the surprising changes coming with Avengers: Endgame Encore. They dig into rumors surrounding Spider-Man's symbiote suit, Doctor Doom, Wanda, Hawkeye, and Thanos before looking at Marvel's new Doomsday watch list and the debate over Endgame's revamped color grading. The conversation also turns to the troubling story behind Wonder Man's cancellation and an encouraging first look at Vision Quest, where Ultron, artificial intelligence, and questions of identity take center stage. HIGHLIGHTS • Avengers: Doomsday rumors include a possible symbiote suit for Tom Holland's Spider-Man and speculation over multiple versions of Doctor Doom. • A new Marvel Comics definition of "incursion" could change how fans interpret the Avengers' time heist in Endgame. • Avengers: Endgame Encore arrives September 25 with additional footage, Doomsday sneak peeks, and a noticeably more saturated color grade. • Marvel has released a 15-title Disney+ watch list designed to prepare viewers for Avengers: Doomsday. • New reporting sheds light on Wonder Man's cancellation and renews questions about Marvel's handling of several recent characters and projects. • Vision Quest showrunner Terry Matalas describes the series as a story about humanity's responsibility for the artificial intelligence it creates. • James Spader returns as Ultron, whose consciousness has apparently been trapped inside Vision's mind since Avengers: Age of Ultron. • Paul Bettany and the creative team explore Vision's identity, parenthood, and outsider status alongside Tommy Shepherd's own search for who he really is. He's back!  And he's regrettable.  Jay has returned to the studio and this time Robbie didn't forget his segment.  In fact, it's a Jay's Regrettable Segment Roundup, with three - that's right, the magic number - three Regrettable Supervillains to relay and rate this week.   And be warned: the redeemable badge is particularly hard to come by this go-round.  They start with Dr. Voodoo vs Wonder Man (and it's not the one you think), Fang up against The Snowman (he's no Olaf, but he'll do), and Hawk swooping down unsuccessfully on The Barker, a story of magic and mayhem at your local circus.  If you've ever heard of any of these, you must have read the book, too.  And it's unlikely you'll ever hear of them again.   Casting news is two-thirds of the Geeks of the Week segment, with Art's update from X-Men casting reveals at D23, and Jay (almost) getting his chance to talk about Dr. Who showing up in unlikely places.  Robbie is just sad that he'll no longer get music CD's from Columbia House.  And all The Guys will be sad if you don't listen to this episode.  Don't be a regrettable…just be a Super Listener.

HBO's new DC superhero show Lanterns is not the show you think it is. It's about a couple of space cops: Kyle Chandler plays Earth's Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, a grizzled, impulsive old-timer reluctantly training up his backup, John Stewart (Aaron Pierre). Yet the story avoids cosmic sweep and spectacle in favor of a character-driven mystery and a grounded setting. Spider-Man: Brand New Day Editors – Nat Sanders, ACE; Harry Yoon, ACE and Gina Sansom Spider-Man: Brand New Day editors Nat Sanders, ACE, Harry Yoon, ACE and Gina Sansom join The Rough Cut to discuss helping director Destin Daniel Cretton take Peter Parker into a deeper, more grounded chapter of his story. Nat and Gina began the film together during production, with Harry joining them for the director's cut, bringing together three editors who had each previously collaborated with Destin on projects ranging from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings to Wonder Man. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day finds Peter Parker (Tom Holland) fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that no longer remembers him. As Peter watches MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) continue their lives without him, the pressure of his isolation begins to trigger a transformation he may not be able to control. At the same time, a new threat emerges in New York, drawing Peter into a conflict that also brings him together with Frank Castle / The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), Bruce Banner / Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Jean Grey (Sadie Sink). The film also stars Tramell Tillman and Michael Mando. For Nat, Brand New Day continues a long creative relationship with Cretton that stretches back to Short Term 12 and includes The Glass Castle, Just Mercy and Shang-Chi. Harry previously worked with Cretton and Nat on Shang-Chi, while Gina came to the film following collaborations with Cretton on American Born Chinese and Wonder Man. Brand New Day also marks Gina's first feature as an editor. In our interview, Nat, Harry and Gina discuss dividing the film between three editors, working in close proximity to production at Pinewood Studios, shaping Peter Parker's darker and more emotionally complex story, and using previews to test radically different versions of the film. They also talk about finding the right balance between practical action and visual effects, managing the reveal and evolution of Jean Grey, preserving Peter's emotional point of view in his scenes with MJ and Ned, and collaborating with composer Michael Giacchino as the film developed through post. NAT SANDERS, ACE Nat Sanders, ACE is an Academy Award-nominated editor whose credits include Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk, Short Term 12, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, The Glass Castle and Just Mercy. A longtime collaborator of director Destin Daniel Cretton, Nat has worked with him from independent character dramas through large-scale studio filmmaking. Nat received an Academy Award nomination alongside Joi McMillon for editing Moonlight and has twice won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Editing. HARRY YOON, ACE Harry Yoon, ACE is an editor whose feature credits include Minari, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Thunderbolts*, The Fire Inside, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, First Man and Detroit. Harry's work spans intimate character dramas and large-scale action films, with a particular focus on maintaining performance and emotional point of view within complex visual storytelling. Spider-Man: Brand New Day reunites him with Destin Daniel Cretton and Nat Sanders following their work together on Shang-Chi. GINA SANSOM Gina Sansom is an Emmy-nominated editor whose television credits include Wonder Man, Our Flag Means Death, American Born Chinese, Reservation Dogs, Silicon Valley, Better Things, Love and Horace and Pete. She received an Emmy nomination for her work on Horace and Pete. After previously collaborating with Destin Daniel Cretton on American Born Chinese and Wonder Man, Gina makes her feature editing debut with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Kevin Schaefer, Evan Garcia, Andy Walsh, Justin Coleman, and Joshua Noel dive headfirst into the latest buzz from San Diego Comic Con 2026, and boy, do they have some spicy updates for fans! Kicking things off, they tackle the electrifying news about a new Ghost Rider movie, featuring none other than Ryan Gosling in a role that's been long speculated. But hold onto your capes, because they also spill the beans on Black Panther 3, introducing T'Challa's son as the next Black Panther—a twist that's got everyone buzzing. And, just when you thought it couldn't get more intense, they lament the shocking cancellation of Wonder Man season 2, leaving fans scratching their heads and wondering what's next for the Marvel universe. With witty banter and insightful takes, this crew brings the heat as they navigate the twists and turns of pop culture, all while keeping it real and relatable. Marvel's San Diego Comic-Con announcements were the hot topic as Kevin Schaefer, Evan Garcia, Andy Walsh, Justin Coleman, and Joshua Noel dove deep into the latest pop culture buzz. The team kicked things off with the announcement of a new Ghost Rider movie set for 2028, starring Ryan Gosling and directed by Shawn Levy. While some co-hosts were skeptical about the casting, citing past experiences with Gosling's roles, others expressed cautious optimism. They debated the potential for a darker, supernatural vibe within the MCU, especially with the promise of introducing characters like Ghost Rider in a post-Secret Wars landscape. The conversation quickly shifted gears to the excitement surrounding Black Panther 3, where they discussed the introduction of T'Challa's son as the new Black Panther, portrayed by David Johnson. The co-hosts were thrilled about Ryan Coogler returning for this sequel, sharing their hopes for how the film will honor Chadwick Boseman's legacy while moving the story forward. As they wrapped up the Marvel news, the team lamented the cancellation of Wonder Man Season 2, reflecting on the show's potential and how its characters could have been further developed in the MCU. The discussion was lively and packed with insights, showcasing the blend of humor and fandom that makes Systematic Geekology a must-listen for any geek. The Systematic Geekology crew came together for a lively discussion about the latest Marvel announcements from San Diego Comic-Con 2026. The episode was a whirlwind of opinions on the new Ghost Rider movie featuring Ryan Gosling, which had the hosts split on their excitement levels. While some were more skeptical, concerned about Gosling's previous roles, others were jazzed about the idea of exploring Ghost Rider's supernatural elements within the MCU. The team also delved into the upcoming Black Panther 3, celebrating the introduction of T'Challa's son and praising David Johnson's casting. They shared their hopes that the film would honor the beloved legacy of Chadwick Boseman while pushing the narrative forward. However, the mood took a turn when the cancellation of Wonder Man Season 2 was discussed, leading to a mix of disappointment and speculation about the reasoning behind it. The hosts expressed their desire for more representation in the Marvel universe, lamenting the missed opportunity for growth in the Wonder Man storyline. In this episode of Systematic Geekology, the crew dissected the latest Marvel news following the San Diego Comic-Con announcements. The anticipation for the Ghost Rider movie, slated for 2028 and starring Ryan Gosling, sparked a heated debate among the hosts. Some were skeptical about the casting, bringing up concerns from previous projects, while others remained hopeful about the director's capabilities to deliver a unique take on the character. The conversation then shifted to Black Panther 3, where the introduction of T'Challa's son as the new Black Panther excited the group, particularly since Ryan Coogler is at the helm once again. They reflected on how the character's legacy will be honored while navigating a fresh narrative. However, the cancellation of Wonder Man Season 2 cast a shadow over the discussion, with the hosts expressing disappointment and frustration over Marvel's decision-making. They explored the implications of this cancellation, particularly regarding representation in the superhero genre, and speculated on future possibilities for the characters involved. The episode was rich with insights, humorous banter, and a strong sense of community among fans.Takeaways:Marvel's announcements at San Diego Comic Con 2026 included a much-anticipated Ghost Rider movie, set for 2028, featuring Ryan Gosling, which sparked mixed reactions among fans. The crew expressed excitement over the introduction of T'Challa's son as the new Black Panther, promising a fresh direction for the franchise while honoring Chadwick Boseman's legacy. The cancellation of Wonder Man season 2 was met with disappointment, as the hosts felt it had potential for continuation, especially with its unique character-driven narrative.Discussion around the new Black Panther highlighted the significance of diverse representation and the challenges of recasting iconic roles in a way that resonates with audiences. The conversation touched on the overall trajectory of Marvel's cinematic universe, hinting at a shift towards more character-driven storytelling post-Secret Wars, which could lead to a richer narrative experience.Listeners were encouraged to keep an eye out for future announcements, especially regarding the X-Men, as the community anticipates new developments in the beloved franchise..Be sure to check out our merch, find extra content, and become an official member of Systematic Geekology on our website:https://systematic-geekology-shop.fourthwall.com/.Check out all of our "What's New(s)" series:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/5abf15a7-d441-4638-8a4a-66ccf85e3343.Listen to our other Marvel episodes:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/fb519d38-2d9b-4f82-b041-81b81613543c.Listen to all of our episodes with Justin:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/f7586782-3eb9-4d2b-84ce-54cae90443d0.Check out other episodes with Kevin:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/84fd7d06-cf1f-48e5-b358-09a01c5a6bc9.Check out other episodes with Evan:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/db75189a-04f3-4129-9a5d-ade41cf863b5.Listen to all of Andy's episodes:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/c86f7a67-357b-4324-bf95-e42cedb9932a.Don't miss any of Joshua's episodes:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/642da9db-496a-40f5-b212-7013d1e211e0Mentioned in this episode:Become a member of Systematic Geekology on our Website!Check out the link to become a member of Systematic Geekology! Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes.Tom Holland's fourth outing as Peter Parker/Spider-Man opened to a massively successful box office, shattering the domestic opening record previously held by Avengers: Endgame, and raking in nearly $1 billion globally in its first weekend alone - so while it beat Endgame's North American opening take, it comes in just behind it globally. Not a bad start for Disney and Marvel Studios as the conversation around superhero movies ebbs and flows in the zeitgeist. Those numbers exclude the premium IMAX format, as Spidey couldn't web up those screens due to The Odyssey still holding all IMAX screens. While Marvel is on their Spidey high, other headlines have circled the news this week - some good and some disappointing. On a positive note - Samara Weaving has reportedly been cast as Emma Frost. Horror fans will recognize Weaving from the Ready or Not films. Obsession breakout star Inde Navarette confirmed her meeting with Jake Schreier and she mentioned interest in playing Mystique. And for the bad news, Wonder Man will not get a season two after all - even though it was confirmed earlier this year - and both Kevin Feige and Maershala Ali expressed regret about the Blade film; with Feige admitting he feels like a failure for not getting it off the ground and Ali saying he's done with the project. Last week, DC Studios and HBO's Booster Gold series writer David Jenkins said that the project is no longer moving forward. Shortly after he made this statement, IGN reported that the series will, in fact, be moving forward, but with a new creative team. The New York Times reported that Barbie 2 is currently stalled, with Warner Bros. struggling to come to terms with lead talent Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie, and Ryan Gosling. The studio has until December to reach a deal before the right revert back to Mattel. Stephen King's 1996 novel Desperation is getting a film adaptation from Final Destination: Bloodlines directing duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein. Sam Raimi will also produce the feature, his first time working with King. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Jumanji: Open World, which opens in theaters on December 25. The film returns franchise stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan. Amazon MGM Studios is developing a Warhammer 40k animated event series alongside the upcoming live-action version, sources close to the project confirmed to Deadline. Additionally, Henry Cavill, who is set to star, is also on board to be an executive producer.Dave Bautista is in talks to take on the lead role of Kratos in Prime Video's God of War series, replacing Ryan Hurst, who had to drop out of production after he sustained an on set stunt injury. Mary Holland, Star of Ghosts and The Little House on the Prairie, has been cast in a lead role as Sandra in the upcoming DC Studios and HBO Max Superman spin off series that centers on Jimmy Olsen. In a recent interview with Inverse, Jessica Henwick revealed that she declined an offer to reprise her role as Colleen Wing in Daredevil: Born Again season three because she wants to protect the character's perfect ending in Netflix's Iron Fist.

Peter is determined to embrace a fresh start while balancing the everyday struggles of work, relationships, and responsibility, all as new threats emerge that test his resolve in unexpected ways. Peter, Eddie, and Ryan discuss the film's compelling character work, spectacular action sequences, emotional storytelling, memorable supporting cast, and how it successfully captures the heart, humor, and resilience that have defined Spider-Man for generations—all while keeping the conversation completely spoiler-free for those who haven't seen the movie yet. We already reviewed the big movie of the week, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," earlier this week. But other movies exist in the world, so you get Arthouse Tuesday on a Friday. Here's what we discussed on the latest episode of Breakfast All Day: I WANT YOUR SEX. Between this and the Wham! in China documentary, it's an accidental George Michael theme week, but we're not complaining. Olivia Wilde stars as a caustic and quick-witted dom to Cooper Hoffman's eager and besotted sub. The latest from veteran queer filmmaker Gregg Araki takes place in the heightened world of LA's contemporary art scene. This movie is a hoot. In theaters. SHEEP IN THE BOX. A rare miss from Japanese writer-director Hirokazu Kore-eda. His film explores some familiar themes about creating a family in unexpected ways, but does so in languid, superficial fashion. A couple in the near future brings a synthetic boy into their home to replace the 7-year-old son they lost. Sounds like a moving premise, but this never grabbed us. In theaters. MOVIE NEWS LIVE! Another extra-long segment because there was so much to discuss, including the huge Thursday box office for "Spider-Man," news out of Comic-Con, Disney canceling "Wonder Man," and the tragic death os Glen Hansard.
