It's a nerd! It's a plane! Nope - it's an actor. An actor who happens to have super powers. Or a superhero who happens to be an actor. Either way, it's Wonder Man, Marvel's latest streaming series. The Guys all recommend it, but be aware: this is not your typical superhero show. People with powers? check. Sidekicks with witty repartee? check. Dastardly villains? It kinda depends on how you look at it. But it also has celebrity cameos, family drama, and a genuine Knight Bachelor who steals the show. And it's easily binge-able so go binge it before you listen, because spoilers abound. Geeks of the Week get special recognition this week as one of The Guys is now an official Apple Developer (hint: it's not Jay.) Robbie throws a Hail Mary (but not under the bus), Art quotes one rogue director, and Jay takes over the obits department this week, honoring one of the most famous nerds in Holly-Nerd history. This episode is a true wonder.
This week on the Major Issues Podcast, the hosts break down Wonder Man, Marvel's latest addition to the MCU's expanding television slate. Centered on struggling actor Simon Williams, the series blends superhero spectacle with Hollywood satire as a man chasing fame suddenly finds himself living the very kind of story he once auditioned for. The hosts discuss the show's unique tone, its commentary on celebrity culture and the entertainment industry, and how this take on Wonder Man fits into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. From performances and production style to the deeper themes about identity and ambition, the episode explores whether this unconventional Marvel series finds its footing or gets lost in the spotlight. Steve Orlando is one of the busiest writers in comics right now, and this week on the AIPT Comics Podcast, we're running our full, uncut conversation with him. Earlier this week, we published a written feature focused on his Scarlet Witch run, but this episode expands far beyond that, covering everything from Deadweight with Bobby Lee to Valiant Beyond: X-O Manowar, DC x AEW, his chance to judge on Dragula Titans season 2, Tarzan Beyond, X-Men Infinity, and even a teased return to Midnighter! If you wanted the complete Orlando download, this is it. Visit our Patreon page to see the various tiers you can sign up for today to get in on the ground floor of AIPT Patreon. Dave: The Amazing Spider-Man #23 (Taurin Clarke Cover) Or Maybe Alex: X-Men #26 (Gurihiru Marvel Monster Variant) Interview: Steve Orlando Deadweight (GUNGNIR Publishing) (with Bobby Lee & Matthew Medney) Deadweight sounds completely unhinged in the best way, blending martial arts chaos, horror, and absurdist comedy. When you're co-writing something that springs so directly from Bobby Lee's comedic voice, how do you balance honoring that raw unpredictability while still building a story with emotional stakes and structure? Valiant Beyond: X-O Manowar (out Feb 18) In Valiant Beyond: X-O Manowar, Aric joins the PunX after millennia of isolation, and suddenly honor is tied to community rather than conquest. How has it been carving out your own corner of the Valiant universe? Good Bones Good Bones gathers your horror work into a single anthology, and many of the stories explore queer identity through transformation, secrecy, and bodily autonomy. When you write horror rooted in identity, are you consciously using the genre as metaphor, or does that symbolism emerge naturally through character? Dragula (with Todd McFarlane) You co-judged Dragula alongside Todd McFarlane, which feels like a collision of comics horror and performance art. Did that experience teach you anything about spectacle and theatricality, or inspire you when you're comics work? DC AEW DC and AEW both thrive on spectacle, but they also rely heavily on character-driven drama and long-term storytelling. When writing DC x AEW #1, how did you balance the over-the-top, live-event energy with making sure the character pairings felt emotionally and thematically right, rather than just fun visual mashups? Scarlet Witch Can you talk about or tease the status of Wanda and Vision's relationship as of now? Agatha Harkness is your main antagonist in Sorcerer Supreme, what makes her fun to write? Agatha is the Vishanti's chosen sorcerer supreme, I was curious if you're drawing from any personal life experience having someone be picked over you when writing this story arc? Your run on Scarlet Witch has been released via miniseries, are there advantages (and disadvantages) to this format? Wanda Maximoff has worn a lot of labels over the years—Avenger, sorceress, reality shaper, occasional cosmic wildcard. How do you personally view her place in that ecosystem? Additional General Questions Your bibliography moves fluidly between superhero epics, indie horror, licensed work, and now chaotic comedy with Deadweight. How do you recalibrate your voice between projects without losing what makes a story feel unmistakably yours?

It's time to dredge up some painful memories of mid-tier Tom Clancy games with Predator: Badlands, then it's onto cheerier topics, like a discussion on Marvel's latest short run TV series Wonder Man and whether it might be the start of a new era for the MCU. Having already properly dated the show with a recent “holiday” we turn to Game Dev Story from Kairosoft, a fairly casual but very revealing management game, then it's off to the Jazz Age with Gatsby from Catch Up Games via Hachette. All that, and an incorrect use of butter, on Ep242. 00:00 - A Triple Whammy 06:42 - Game Dev Story 17:17 - Predator: Badlands 30:16 - Gatsby 41:56 - Wonder Man On this episode were Dan (@ThisDanFrost), Kris (@DigitalStrider), Peter (@XeroXeroXero), and Sam (@MrSamTurner). Dan and Vinny are joined by Danny Auto as they discuss Marvel's latest TV project: WONDER MAN!All three of us enjoyed this show, but some of us were apprehensive when we first saw the trailer. The show made for some fun surprises, and may have even turned some of our opinions around on certain characters. We discuss the strength of the writing, the character development, and the importance of a series like this. We also ask the now most important question in the MCU: Is Josh Gad the MCU's Mojo?

What's good Dojo ⛩️ We wanted to tap in with y'all as we move into a new chapter. As most of you know, the show started with three of us, and over time it naturally evolved into just the two of us — Hesh and Domino. During that transition, we kept using “The Dojo” as a placeholder in case the trio ever came back together, but now we've officially accepted that this is our new form.Same energy. Same conversations. Same laughs. Just a new era — and this time, we want a name that really sticks. Something we can build, brand, trademark, and truly grow into. We've already brainstormed a few ideas, but we also want to open the floor to the people who've been rocking with us from the start. If you've got creative, clever, funny, or fire name ideas for the podcast, drop them. Nothing is off the table. This isn't just a rename — it's the start of our next venture, and we want the community involved like always.Appreciate y'all for growing with and supporting us through this transitioal period. More soon!
Tim and Frank dive into Marvel's Wonder Man: a surprisingly heartfelt, sharply written love letter to acting, movie-making, and finding yourself in the chaos of Hollywood. This show made Tim rethink his hate for Iron Man 3. Yes, really. Cheers! Beers of the Week Stoneface Sunday Sauce Italian Style Pils Stormalong Farm Stand Unfiltered Cider
