With DragonCon, looming Charles has been working with a lot of different creators. He is challenging the crew with the question “Why do you Call Yourself a Pro?” With Bobby Blackwolf on board, all five of us consider ourselves professionals and we cover a lot of different reasons why. Then after the show, we found the quote that is on the cover art. “Professionalism is an Attitude - not a time commitment.” ~ Deb Bixler. If you believe that then you are a pro whether you like it or not. We Show Some Love: Charles has a new project and he is in love with it. Check out “Finding the Stories” which is Charles’ journey to show what the human connection looks like. He talks to each person digging into what he finds interesting and motivating - the experiences that tie us together. Please show your love and subscribe today. We are learning that Mike Ellison is a bit like a puppy. He looks good fuzzy, has great breath, and gets so excited he pees on the floor! So he asks us old dogs "How do you handle waiting for something exciting?" Phil buries himself in work, Tony P. finds ways to ignore it, and Charles just lives moment to moment. There obviously is so much more to this dumpster fire that we can't really describe it in words. So hit our socials or email and let us know how you wait. We Show Some Love: Mike has a few cool panels he is doing for DragonCon Goes Virtual. But to avoid being like Charles and the self-love he is adding a few of his friend's panels. Tony P. really shows us all what it means to have a professional rockstar type intro for your show. But in all sincerity, we use the dumpster fire as our logo for a reason. He wanted all of us to share our favorite DragonCon Memories so far as we get excited for DragonCon Goes Virtual 2020. Our guest tonight is Bobby Blackwolf of Vognetwork.com. He has been a friend of ours for a while and has attended DragonCon since 1995. So if you are keeping track he has been going the longest, then Tony P., then Charles, Phil, and Mike. Charles has an odd flex in this episode but it is well earned, and we all have a great time sharing some of our favorite experiences. Won't you come and share yours? We Show Some Love: One of Tony p’s great passions in life is DragonCon. Tonight he shows the love for the Digital Media Track as it is kicking off this weekend. Mike Ellison jumped into this episode with his amazement of DC Movies that are upcoming. With all of the DC movie trailers that dropped. He asks us "Are DC Movies Getting Better?" Oddly enough Charles hasn't seen any of them. Phil had his commentary and Tony P brought in the humor as he does. He wanted to talk Marvel but we kept him on track. It was a great discussion of past movies and the upcoming films and we want to know what you think. We Show Some Love: Mike has mad love for a new podcast called Protest Too Much! Phil jumps into his childhood with the question of what were the toys that you wanted but never got. It brought up some great memories of toys that we had forgotten. Names you know pop up like He-Man, Ninja Turtles, G.I. Joe, and the like. And we learn of toys we really weren't that familiar with. It was kind of like going to a toy fair. Then the tragedy hits. We hear of Charles's stories of crushed dreams, and then Phil mentions the dreaded Virtual Boy. It's all downhill after that. So won't you tell us what toy you wanted but never received? We Show Some Love: Phil loves a great documentary and has a special place for the Action Figure Adventure releasing soon. Our good friends at Toy Power Podcast should be making an appearance in that film and we are eager to see it! Tony P. Henderson kicks us off with a question about gaming consoles. Specifically, he wants to know the stories of your first gaming system. Charles says he has a sad origin story and it throws Tony off. In general, we all have a unique story to tell of how we were introduced to gaming and what the first systems we owned were. And that's the key. Not the first system we played but the first one that was our very own. Phil always blows us away with his story and what he owns today. Yeah, he shows off some of his original consoles while we record this episode. So share your story with us. Or if you desire throw us your own question of what stories, theories, and beliefs that you want to hear about. Charles lives in his own universe and we all know this. Right now he is asking us "Who is Your Animation Alter Ego?" So even though we had to start out with Mike Ellison missing in action, Tony and Phil hold their own. So the game is this - first you get to say who you think you are in that animated universe and then the other hosts pick for you. And then we throw out the rules and simply start picking the characters for everyone. The universes that we run through are Looney Toons, Hannah Barbera, Futurama, and finally South Park. I mean Tony tried to insert some random animation but we quickly moved on! Feel free to let us know who you are or better yet throw in a different animation and tell us who we are to you! Chris brings us our final topic of "What's Next?" Its been a long journey of ups and downs as we have done this show. It spawned from a show about a game, became a network, and a show about comic geekery. Over the years we have grown and changed. The faces, the topics, the relationships, and overall life has taken its course. Sometimes in life and in media, we grow together sometimes changes are inevitable. Phil talks about a new project he is working on as does Charles. Tony and Chris share different things from their life and then we say our goodbyes to BTP. We will always be grateful to Brian Ibbott and Paul Klotz for being there, in the beginning, to kick this off. Klotz put in five years and help guide this project. Chris Wisdom has always been a believer and a fan all along. And of course you the fans and listeners of this show. We love you all and wouldn't be able to grow without you. Now its time for a new beginning. Almost Daily Discourse is the new project moving forward. Please join us at Anchor.fm/AlmostDailyPod, on Twitter.com/AlmostDailyPod, and Facebook.com/AlmostDailyPod. We are excited about the new path and energy that we are building! Join our panel of podcast all-stars as they ponder a new discussion question almost every weekday. The discourse ranges from the empirical to the hypothetical and may result in conversational magic… or an utter dumpster fire. Either way, you won’t want to miss it. Charles has his moments. I mean in his own world in his own head. He kicks off the show tonight with a story of his youngest son and Guitar Hero. He realizes that it was a dumb way to impress so he asks the boys what are "The Dumb Things we do to Impress Others?" Everyone takes a turn dumping on the Rock God of Podcasting, but then they share their own story. At some point, we shift gears to talk about the things we have done to impress that we regret. Tony has been itching to get out into the world (kinda - we all know he is an introvert.) So with some news hitting about reopening theaters and low ticket prices he starts the conversation by asking us how soon we were looking to return. There is a consensus basically that we all want to wait. But of course, as we do the ante gets real with questions of the new Ghost Busters movie and Bill & Ted face the music being put on the table. It becomes a lot harder decision when its something you really want to see. Find out where we all landed and answer for yourself - What would it take to get you back in? Phil has some studio envy of Charles as is evident by tonight's topic! He asks everyone what is something awesome that they have in their studio. While everything has a story Charles has a bobblehead of himself that he LOVES! So yeah there is a ton of grief about that. That of course gets the ball rolling (and after a few jabs about Merida - see the last volume) we get into all kinds of awesome female-led content. Tony P. has brought up the idea that sometimes there is a character or actor that you just hate and you really have no reason too. Nuru steps right up with no apologies and tap dances all over a beloved Disney Princess the Charles holds dear. So that became an issue that took some resolving. Phil rehashes his old Nemesis K2-SO from Rogue One and how much he despises that character. Charles went real world with an actress of note, and Mike just loves so much that we have a hard time remembering who he hated. We are joined tonight by Nuru @thenaijanerds and he wants to talk about Warrior Nun and the Umbrella Academy. He binge-watched the Warrior Nun in two days as did Mike Ellison. This is as much of a spoiler-free discussion as we can make it. Different people on the panel watched the shows but you know that Phil Keating didn't watch anything. So his additions to the conversation can be a bit misleading and yet highly entertaining! Mike Ellison with the toss of the dice won the opening topic for tonight's show. He brings up fictional worlds (because you know the real one is in beta release right now) and asks us "What World Would You Live in?" Somehow we start gravitating to post-apocalyptic worlds where death and destruction reign. Which makes Mike ask us if we have been eating lead paint. So we do bounce around some more pleasant worlds. About halfway through the show, Charles asks "What children's show would you live in?" We get a little wild and crazy with the answers surprising our guest for the night Nuru. Charles took advantage of the fact that everyone on the show has built or been a part of a great community. So he relays some mild drama in one of his communities to get the creative juices flow. We hear how Bill purposefully built his community, how Frank learned some rough lessons, and how Phil had to deal with turbulence to come out smoother on the other side. That leads him to ask us "What are your Favorite Summer Memories?” There are many shared about festivals, the lack of responsibility, staying out until the street lamps turn on, and more. Then everyone talks about their adult summers and how much they will miss Dragon Con this year. Charles isn't ready to talk about it and gets kinda sad, but these are really good stories of love and enjoyment. Come share your moments with us this Wednesday night at 8 pm! Tony P. Henderson joins in the fun on this episode. The world is getting crazier by the minute with many celebs putting their name in the running for President of the US. So he rolls in and asks us "Which celebrity would you want as president?" Charles off the bat gets serious and spawns a real discussion of what it means to be a leader. But then the funny kicks in and we get all sorts of random names from the hosts and the chat. Come join us on Wednesday to add your 2 cents to the discussions. Charles has been on the web today (that is dangerous we know.) He found a headline about the future of Kathleen Kennedy/StarWars, Netflix has The Old Guard, and all of the upcoming movie dates have been moved. We tackle som bro tears and toxic masculinity, find out there are more image comics on screen than we thought, and then get sad over the moving of dates. In this age of crisis and truth, Paul has been disappointed by many a celebrity or person he looked up to. For him, many heroes have fallen so he asks us "Who are your fallen heroes?" This discussion wiggles here and there while we get deeper into the idea of what heroes are and whom we should look up to. The idea of separating the actor from the roll comes up as does learning to be human. Overall we discuss the concept of heroes and why we have them. Phil has had issues with sleep off and on through the years. Recently he has had recurring dreams, lucid dreams, and dreams that have simply stuck with him. So the topic that he brings is what dreams do we have or have had that are similar. Kurt, Paul, and Charles all have something to add in about their experiences. The chat room had many experiences and we want to know what dreams you may have experienced. Email us with the link below or hit us up on social media. Charles has been working with his children of their various ages to learn not only how to game but to be varied in their styles. Recently his son learned some strategy from playing games so Charles asks What lessons have you learned from Games? Phil talks of patience, Kurt brings up typing again (not really though), Paul has an interesting talk about the economy in and out of games, while Charles talks about hope. It is another varied and interesting conversation spanning the gap of what you would expect, and some unexpected twists and turns. So we ask you "What lessons have you learned from Games?" We all go through life needing to do things and wishing we could do more. Phil comes to the panel and asks what skills do we wish that we had. And then halfway through someone asks what skills do you have that you may be hated learning but are super valuable now. Typing, speaking a different language, music, and Chuck Norris get brought up. It's a weird mix of skilled and skilless in this week's breaking the panel. So how about you - what skill do you wish that you had? No matter where you got your start in gaming someone has influenced your playstyle. Charles got a lot of his style from his father so he asks you "Who taught you to play?" Now some of the answers are grinding up on solo games, sometimes it is friends, and of course the kind of people we grew up with. Inspired by our guests from last week Phil wanted to talk about video game soundtracks. He asks us "What is your favorite video game music?" Of course, Final Fantasy came up more than once as did the Doom series. However, Charles brought a twist on this question with what games did you mute the music and play your own? It was a great discussion and we would love to hear your opinion. Chris is out for this month being a great father with his kid's little league games. Rob love to discuss movies and rarely gets a chance. He thought that in this day of binge-watching he would give some off the beaten path recommendations and wanted to know what ours were. He brings Magnolia, Phil talks about Wristcutters and another, Paul talks about too fun flicks on Netflix, and Charles brings a small range of films. This goes from interpersonal to sci-fi and everything in-between. We would love to hear your suggestions! Chris is out for this month being a great father with his kid's little league games. Well you may have noticed the notes got screwed up and the last episode was Mike bringing us where you find game references outside of games. Here is the book question/discussion for reals this time. So it turns out that Stephanie is a High School teacher - Who Knew!!! She had to put together a curriculum for summer reading and asked us "What Books are Essential to Read?" There is a very lively debate on what books should make the list and some good recommendations. Charles goes sideways at one point bringing in movie references but it was ok. Paul has played games and consumed media for many years. He has seen many changes come to the properties he loves. Tonight he poses the question "When is change good…and when can it just suck it?" Stephanie, Mike, and Charles all share stories of times when a book, tv, or game series has implemented changes that were loved and hated. Mike and Klotz really dive into the D&D changes over the years and how it worked for them then and now. So why don't you share your story with us! Charles has been playing some digital and real-life board games with his family recently. His youngest daughter is 7 years old and she is the reigning champ in the house! So some of the kids aren't super happy. Charles asks everyone what board games do you play with people that drive you crazy or just make you want to quit. We have 2 great guests today - Mike Ellison AND Stephanie Crugnola join us this evening for some great conversation. Phil has some ghosts stories to share. So he wanted to know if we believe in things outside the "realm of understanding" basically. There are a few ghost stories to share, some theories on aliens both ancient and current, and we find out that Charles is a big believer in multiple universes, string theory, and monsters. Charles has been diving into a new game (for him) lately and has noticed in himself the desire to quit too early into learning a game. So he brings out some of his stories of self-defeat and how we can encourage ourselves and others to get better at the games they want to play. We also dive into the horrible world of trolling and the destructive nature of rage quitting. Gatekeepers are a caustic and horrible thing in the gaming community.
