Ever thought about how a she shed and a man cave can be two sides of the same coin? In this lively discussion, Eric G, John Dudley, and Wendy Glaister tackle the fun quirks of designing your own little escape. They throw around witty remarks about the crazy things couples choose to include in their sheds—like, who knew that daffodils and moose horns could be such hot topics? The episode is packed with stories of real-life clients who have turned their creative visions into reality, from tech-savvy entrepreneurs needing separate workspaces to the hilarious dynamics of partners negotiating their décor choices. It's not just about the physical space either; the trio dives into the emotional importance of having a personal retreat and how it can impact relationships. They discuss the potential pitfalls of man caves becoming too enticing, leading to husbands spending more time in their sanctuaries than with their families. Wendy shares her experience of creating a stunning man cave for her husband, only to find that he never wanted to leave! It's a light-hearted yet thought-provoking exploration of how our environments shape our lives, making this episode a must-listen for anyone looking to carve out their own personal space.Takeaways:Designing a man cave or she shed is all about personal expression—make it uniquely yours!Compromise is key when creating shared spaces, balancing individual tastes without starting a home design war. It's important to consider future needs in your space—invest in good wiring and features that last.Creating a dedicated space can help maintain sanity in a work-from-home world, but balance is crucial to avoid isolation.Bringing in personal elements, like favorite sports memorabilia, can add character and make your space feel like home.Avoid creating a paradise that keeps you too comfortable—sometimes a little discomfort is necessary to encourage socializing.Links referenced in this episode:aroundthehouseonline.comwendyglasterinteriors.comCompanies mentioned in this episode:Wendy Glacier InteriorsSoundscapesBlacktail StudiosThanks for listening to Around the house if you want to hear more please subscribe so you get notified of the latest episode as it posts at https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/listenIf you want to join the Around the House Insider for access to the back catalog, Exclusive Content and a direct email to Eric G and access to the show early https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/support We love comments and we would love reviews on how this information has helped you on your house! Design Dilemmas: How Wendy Glaister Helps You Find Your Aesthetic!

Around the House with Eric G

Wendy Glaister joins Eric G for a lively chat about the art of interior design, where we dive into the nitty-gritty of how designers pinpoint your unique style and aesthetic. Picture this: you've just bought a new home, and the walls are blank canvases just waiting for your personal touch. But wait! You have no idea what your style actually is. That's where the magic of a designer comes in. Wendy emphasizes that each person has their own design aesthetic, but often they struggle to articulate it. She shares her fascinating process, which includes sifting through inspiration photos with clients to discover hidden preferences that might not be immediately obvious. It's like a treasure hunt, only instead of gold doubloons, you find out that you really love mid-century teak furniture paired with industrial chic lighting. Who knew?! As we giggle our way through the episode, Wendy reveals that the biggest challenge for designers is often to ensure that their personal style doesn't overshadow the client's vision. She recounts her own experiences with clients, where she plays detective, figuring out what they truly love. It's a delicate balance of guiding without imposing, and Wendy's insights are not just valuable for designers, but also for homeowners who might feel overwhelmed by decision fatigue. We touch on the importance of working with a designer to avoid costly mistakes—like painting a room three times before landing on the right shade. Trust me, no one wants to live through that drama! By the end of our chat, we've uncovered the beauty of collaboration in design. Wendy stresses that a good designer will always prioritize the client's needs and aspirations, making the process enjoyable rather than stressful. So whether you're a first-time homeowner or someone looking to refresh your space, the takeaway is clear: don't hesitate to bring in a designer who values your vision. After all, your home should reflect you, not someone else's Pinterest board!Takeaways:Interior designers have a unique ability to uncover your personal aesthetic, even when you can't articulate it yourself. The conversation emphasizes the joy of collaboration between homeowners and designers to create spaces that truly reflect individual styles.Designers aim to make their clients' visions a priority, ensuring the final outcome is uniquely theirs, not a reflection of the designer's own tastes.Finding a designer who understands your needs is essential; the right relationship can transform your home into a space you'll love for years to come.Trends in design shift rapidly, and what's 'in' today could be 'out' tomorrow, making timeless choices essential for long-term satisfaction.Investing in quality design and furnishings pays off, as it not only enhances your space but also saves you money in the long run by avoiding costly mistakes.Links referenced in this episode:AroundtheHouseOnline.comWendyGlasterInteriors.comCompanies mentioned in this episode:REIHouzzTurlockGalerie FinesseUrbaniteThanks for listening to Around the house if you want to hear more please subscribe so you get notified of the latest episode as it posts at https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/listenIf you want to join the Around the House Insider for access to the back catalog, Exclusive Content and a direct email to Eric G and access to the show early https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/support We love comments and we would love reviews on how this information has helped you on your house! Hey there, home improvement warriors! Today's midweek update is all about staying cool, literally. We kick it off with some important recalls that might have you checking your cooling devices. Dakin Comfort Technologies is recalling over 13,000 Amana air conditioners and heat pumps. Apparently, these units are at risk of turning into mini bonfires thanks to a sneaky electrical fault. So if you own one, it's time to stop using it and get that refund. And let's not forget about those off-brand smoke detectors that aren't doing their job. Remember, cheap safety gear can lead to expensive consequences. It's like trying to save on a seatbelt – just don't do it! On a lighter note, we dive into the hilarious situation where Europe is throwing shade (and heat) at the US for our love of air conditioning. As they roast under the sun, we're sitting pretty in our cool homes, and they're not too happy about it. But hey, comfort is key, right? We share a chuckle over how our efficient HVAC systems are somehow to blame for their woes. Maybe they should consider investing in some AC instead of blaming us for their heatwave. We wrap things up with some hot tips to keep your home cool during this summer scorcher. From clever shading solutions for your outdoor units to using misters to enhance your cooling game, we've got the insider scoop. We also remind you to keep those air filters clean and ensure good airflow. After all, with summer in full swing, it's all about staying chill and safe. So grab your AC remote and let's keep it cool!Takeaways:In this sizzling heat wave, we've got killer tips to keep your home cool and comfy without melting into a puddle.Safety first! We dive into some serious recalls for air conditioners and safety devices that could save your life—yikes!Europe's throwing shade at the US for our air conditioning habits while they bake in the heat—what's up with that? We've got the scoop on a revolutionary AC shade product that actually helps your system work better without blocking airflow.Misters are not just for fancy patios; they can cool your HVAC outside and even drop indoor temperatures—science, baby!Don't skimp on safety equipment; investing in good quality detectors is infinitely better than gambling with your life.Companies mentioned in this episode:Daikin Comfort TechnologiesAmazonhttps://cooleriscooler.com/GententThanks for listening to Around the house if you want to hear more please subscribe so you get notified of the latest episode as it posts at https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/listenIf you want to join the Around the House Insider for access to the back catalog, Exclusive Content and a direct email to Eric G and access to the show early https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/support We love comments and we would love reviews on how this information has helped you on your house! Celebrating the 250th birthday of America is no small feat, and in this inaugural episode of the America 250 campaign, we're diving deep into the heart of American manufacturing with the dynamic duo from Evolve Stone, Greg Fritz and Dominic Rybak. Join me, Eric G, as we kick things off with a bang, exploring how these innovators are revolutionizing the construction industry one stone at a time. Evolve Stone is not just any stone—it's the world's first artificial stone that installs directly through the face with a 16-gauge finish. Say goodbye to the heavy lifting and complicated masonry processes; this game-changer is as easy to use as it is stunning to behold. We chat about how this product is perfect for DIY enthusiasts and contractors alike, making it accessible for anyone looking to amp up their home's curb appeal on a budget. As we stroll down memory lane with Greg and Dom, we uncover the story behind Evolve Stone's inception. From a family-run construction business struggling with traditional materials to discovering a lightweight alternative that mimics the beauty of natural stone, their journey is a testament to American ingenuity. Not only do we discuss the product's aesthetic appeal, but we also dive into the nitty-gritty of its durability and weather resistance. With tests showing that Evolve Stone holds up against the harshest conditions, it's clear this isn't just a pretty face—it's a robust solution for homeowners looking to enhance their outdoor and indoor spaces. We even get into the technical side of how this product is engineered for perfection, ensuring that every piece looks as natural as the earth from which it came. But it's not all serious business—oh no! We keep things light and playful as we explore the versatility of Evolve Stone. From outdoor kitchens to accent walls, this material can be used in a myriad of applications, making it the perfect choice for anyone looking to express their style. Plus, we sprinkle in some laughs and witty banter that makes this conversation not just informative but downright enjoyable. So, whether you're a seasoned builder or a weekend warrior, tune in to discover how Evolve Stone is paving the way for a new era in home improvement, all while keeping it proudly made in America!Takeaways:Evolve Stone's innovative product is revolutionizing the construction industry by allowing easy installation directly through the face, making it a game changer for homeowners and contractors alike. The America 250 campaign is not just about celebrating our nation's history but also about spotlighting American-made products that solve real problems in home improvement. One of the standout features of Evolve Stone is its moisture impermeability, which addresses the major issue of water damage in construction and ensures longevity. The technology behind Evolve Stone utilizes advanced composite materials, making it lightweight yet incredibly durable, which is a huge plus for both DIY enthusiasts and professional builders.Installing Evolve Stone requires no specialized tools; just your trusty chop saw, making it accessible for anyone looking to add a touch of elegance to their space without breaking a sweat. With the ongoing shortage of skilled tradespeople, Evolve Stone provides a viable solution that allows less experienced workers or DIYers to achieve professional-looking results.Links referenced in this episode:aroundthehouseonline.comevolvestone.comrockthelocks.orgCompanies mentioned in this episode:Evolve StoneHorizon BuildersThanks for listening to Around the house if you want to hear more please subscribe so you get notified of the latest episode as it posts at https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/listenIf you want to join the Around the House Insider for access to the back catalog, Exclusive Content and a direct email to Eric G and access to the show early https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/support We love comments and we would love reviews on how this information has helped you on your house! The chat with Mike VanGoethem from Red Wing Shoes is a delightful deep dive into the world of American craftsmanship, where boots are more than just footwear – they're a legacy. We kick things off with a little history lesson on Red Wing, which has been strutting its stuff since 1905, and let me tell you, this brand knows how to stay relevant without chasing fleeting trends. Mike shares how the company's mission has always revolved around quality and durability, which is a breath of fresh air in this age of fast fashion. Seriously, who wants to buy shoes that fall apart after one rainy day? Not us! This conversation is sprinkled with playful banter, as Mike explains how every boot goes through meticulous craftsmanship with around 250 skilled hands involved in its creation. It's like a boot's very own journey to greatness, and we get to witness it. As we meander through the episode, the discussion shifts towards innovation, where Mike introduces the BOA Fit System. It's like the superhero of work boots! Imagine being able to tighten your boots with a quick turn instead of fumbling with laces after a long day of work. We all know what a hassle that can be, especially when you're trying to juggle a million other tasks. And speaking of tasks, the importance of fit is emphasized throughout our chat. Mike passionately describes how a proper fit can enhance performance, making your workday not just bearable but downright enjoyable. Who knew footwear could be so transformational? The episode wraps up with some heartwarming stories about customers and their connections to Red Wing boots, showcasing how these boots are often passed down through generations. It's not just about selling shoes; it's about creating a community and a bond that lasts beyond the initial purchase. This conversation is not just informative; it's a celebration of American heritage, craftsmanship, and the stories we all carry with us, one step at a time!Takeaways:Red Wing Shoes has been crafting quality boots since 1905, focusing on durability and craftsmanship, not fleeting trends. The BOA Fit System in Red Wing boots offers a revolutionary way to adjust fit without bending down, making life easier for hardworking folks.Mike VanGoethem shared that making boots involves 250 skilled hands, showcasing the incredible craftsmanship behind every pair.Red Wing's commitment to quality means their boots are made to last, often becoming heirlooms passed down through generations. The brand prioritizes customer experience, offering personalized fitting services that truly help you find the perfect boot for your needs.Historically, the Red Wing brand has been a favorite among icons like Steve McQueen, blending rugged functionality with timeless style.Links referenced in this episode:aroundthehouseonline.comredwingshoes.comThanks for listening to Around the house if you want to hear more please subscribe so you get notified of the latest episode as it posts at https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/listenIf you want to join the Around the House Insider for access to the back catalog, Exclusive Content and a direct email to Eric G and access to the show early https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/support We love comments and we would love reviews on how this information has helped you on your house! Don't Let Your Home Go Up in Flames: Fire Prevention Tips from Eric G

Fire safety isn't just a buzzword; it's a crucial subject, especially as we gear up for the summer months when wildfires can turn a backyard barbecue into a full-blown disaster quicker than you can say 'hot dog'. Eric G takes us on a deep dive into creating defensible spaces around our homes, which is basically a fancy way of saying, 'let's make our houses harder for fire to reach.' He breaks down the concept into zones, starting with the immediate area around your home—Zone Zero—where the goal is to eliminate any potential fuel sources. Think gravel instead of mulch, and a lot less clutter. Eric emphasizes that even if you live in a seemingly safe area, the winds can carry flames faster than a rumor in a small town. We chat about the sobering fact that a whopping 70% of wildfires are human-caused, which means we can do something about it! The episode is packed with practical advice like maintaining green grass and using metal fences to keep those fiery embers at bay. Plus, Eric stresses the importance of a solid emergency plan, just in case things go south. So, if you want to keep your home safe and sound (and maybe avoid becoming the neighborhood cautionary tale), tune in and take notes!Takeaways:Creating defensible space around your home is crucial for fire prevention, especially in drought conditions.Zone zero, the area closest to your house, must be ember resistant and free of combustibles like mulch and dead vegetation.Keeping your grass green and short can significantly reduce fire risk, as dry grass is a major fire hazard.Regularly clearing roofs and gutters of debris like leaves and pine needles can prevent ignitions from embers during wildfires.Links referenced in this episode:aroundthehousehqThanks for listening to Around the house if you want to hear more please subscribe so you get notified of the latest episode as it posts at https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/listenIf you want to join the Around the House Insider for access to the back catalog, Exclusive Content and a direct email to Eric G and access to the show early https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/support We love comments and we would love reviews on how this information has helped you on your house! I guess we gotta give a small amount of credit to the UFC for showing some uncharacteristic restraint during Donald Trump's Big Birthday Bash at the White House. They actually kept the overt MAGA Mania to a minimum. They didn't show D-Tiddy himself too much (though when they did, he sure seemed to be having a terrible time). They didn't have anybody pop out of a cake to sing “Happy B-Day, Mr. President,” or bring the special little guy into the cage to give him a championship belt. Then again, if “it could have been worse” is our metric for success, well, that says it all, doesn't it? There were good parts and bad parts of UFC Free Dumb 250, is what we're saying. This shit looked great on TV. The UFC's live event production team remains elite. The Marine Corps band absolutely crushed it all night. The fights themselves trended from pretty good to all time-great. A bunch of the other stuff was bad, though. AI slop during the story of America? Bad. Josh Hokit on the mic? Fucking terrible. Using this event as the public-facing element of UFC ownership's efforts to cuddle up even further with this presidential administration? Yep, still bad! Learn more about your ad choices. Packing up your life and moving can feel like a wild rollercoaster—one minute you're soaring high with excitement about new beginnings, and the next you're plummeting into the chaos of boxes, tape, and 'where did I put that?' moments. In this lively chat, Eric G and John Dudley sit down with the fabulous Wendy Glaister from Wendy Glaister Interiors, and let me tell you, it's a treasure trove of packing wisdom peppered with hilarious anecdotes. They dish out their favorite moving hacks, and trust me, you'll want to take notes because moving doesn't have to be a total nightmare! Wendy shares her own moving saga, navigating the trials of packing the little things while the big furniture was whisked away by professional movers—seriously, who knew that your packing strategy could feel like an episode of Survivor? She dives deep into the pros and cons of DIY versus hiring out the heavy lifting. Spoiler alert: there's a reason movers are a thing! And if you're like me, you'll appreciate her practical tips on staying organized, like using colorful labels and keeping track of what's in each box. Did I mention the importance of pizza? Because pizza is a must for any moving day, especially when your friends come to help—because who wouldn't want to bribe their pals with a slice of pepperoni for lifting that heavy couch? Eric and John also reminisce about their own moving adventures, including John's staggering 87 moves (yes, you read that right) which has turned him into a packing wizard of sorts. They all agree that moving is not just about the physical act of relocating—it's about the emotional rollercoaster that comes with it. From finding your new favorite local spots to saying goodbye to old ones, it's a journey filled with ups and downs, laughter, and plenty of 'where's my stuff?' moments. Whether you're gearing up for a move or just want to hear some great stories, this episode is a delightful blend of useful advice and lighthearted banter that will leave you smiling and maybe even a bit inspired. So grab your tape gun and a slice of pizza, and tune in to this packing party because it's not just about moving; it's about embracing the adventure that comes with it!Takeaways:Moving can be a total circus, but with the right hacks, like using totes instead of boxes, your stuff will stay organized and stackable, plus you can actually see what's inside!Hiring professional movers might seem like a splurge, but trust me, it's worth every penny to avoid back pain and the chaos of moving heavy furniture yourself.Wendy's tip on labeling boxes and taking photos of disassembled furniture parts is a lifesaver; it keeps everything organized and makes reassembly way easier when you finally move in.Remember that your friends aren't your moving crew; if you're going to bribe them with pizza, at least tip your movers too – they deserve it!When moving, plan for the unexpected, like a last-minute rush when selling your home; being flexible can save you from a meltdown! And finally, don't underestimate the mental toll of moving; it's like a game of Tetris with your life, so give yourself some grace as you get settled into your new digs.Links referenced in this episode:aroundthehouseonline.comredwingshoes.comwendyglacierinteriors.comCompanies mentioned in this episode:Home DepotU HaulRed WingCasey LogisticsWillamette Valley movingThanks for listening to Around the house if you want to hear more please subscribe so you get notified of the latest episode as it posts at https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/listenIf you want to join the Around the House Insider for access to the back catalog, Exclusive Content and a direct email to Eric G and access to the show early https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/support We love comments and we would love reviews on how this information has helped you on your house! Eric G's midweek update is an intriguing exploration of the current state of affordable housing, sprinkled with a hefty dose of wit and insight that keeps listeners glued to their earbuds. Kicking things off, Eric shares some surprising stats about the housing market, noting a 3.2% uptick in existing home sales—a glimmer of hope for prospective buyers. He paints a picture of a market that's anything but uniform, where some states are thriving while others are caught in a downward spiral, especially on the West Coast. It's a vivid landscape of highs and lows, and Eric's commentary is both informative and engaging, as he navigates the twists and turns of this complex issue. The episode takes a deep dive into the struggles of Portland's affordable housing system, with Eric shedding light on a looming financial collapse fueled by mismanagement and a lack of accountability among nonprofit providers. He highlights the absurdity of having thousands of vacant affordable units while people struggle to find a place to live. This isn't just a local problem; it's a cautionary tale about what happens when good intentions collide with poor execution. Eric's analysis is sharp and thought-provoking, urging listeners to think critically about the systems that are supposed to provide support but often fall short. Wrapping up on a lighter note, Eric transitions into a recall announcement about solar camera systems that pose a fire hazard—because who doesn't love a thrilling twist in their home improvement updates? He cleverly advises listeners on the importance of proper disposal of lithium-ion batteries, mixing in humor with practical advice. With his signature blend of casual banter and insightful observations, Eric G's midweek update not only informs but also entertains, making it a delightful listen for anyone interested in the intersection of housing, policy, and community well-being.Takeaways:Affordable housing in Portland is facing a financial crisis, with many vacant subsidized apartments. The average housing market varies widely across states, with some booming and others struggling. Many existing affordable housing programs lack accountability, leading to financial mismanagement.Federal changes in housing rules may help reduce inflated costs and improve affordability.Recent recalls on solar cameras highlight consumer safety issues and the importance of proper disposal.Energy efficiency rules are being reconsidered, aiming for a balance between cost and sustainability.Links referenced in this episode:aroundthehousehqThanks for listening to Around the house if you want to hear more please subscribe so you get notified of the latest episode as it posts at https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/listenIf you want to join the Around the House Insider for access to the back catalog, Exclusive Content and a direct email to Eric G and access to the show early https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/support We love comments and we would love reviews on how this information has helped you on your house! Eric G. and Robert Thomas, the Director of Property Rights Litigation at the Pacific Legal Foundation, dive into an enlightening chat about the often bewildering and sometimes downright head-scratching world of property rights and government regulations. You know, the kind that can make you question whether you're really the king of your castle or just a tenant in the government's grand scheme. Robert lays down some serious truth bombs about how the Pacific Legal Foundation stands up for homeowners like you and me, fighting against overreaches that can threaten our cozy domains. It's like having a legal superhero ready to swoop in when the bureaucratic bad guys come knocking at your door. In this episode, we explore cases that really showcase the absurdity of regulatory overreach. Picture this: imagine being told you have to tear down your house if you want to make even the simplest changes, or being caught in a web of red tape where the local government's whims dictate what you can do with your property. Robert shares some jaw-dropping anecdotes about how the California Coastal Commission has tried to stretch its powers beyond reasonable limits, and how the Pacific Legal Foundation has successfully challenged those overreaches in court. It's a rollercoaster of legal battles, victories, and a few defeats that remind us how critical it is to keep our property rights intact. But it's not just all about California; the conversation takes a wider turn as Eric and Robert discuss how these issues resonate across the country. From Oregon to New Mexico, there are stories that echo the fight for property rights that many homeowners are facing today. Whether it's about zoning laws that feel more like a straitjacket or absurd fines that seem designed to squeeze the last penny out of you, this episode is packed with insights that will make you rethink the role of government in your home. So, grab your favorite drink, settle in, and get ready to be educated and entertained about the rights that protect your home sweet home.Takeaways:Understanding your property rights is crucial, especially when faced with government overreach.Pacific Legal Foundation's mission is to defend individual liberties against government abuse, which is more relevant than ever.Zoning laws and regulations can severely limit homeowners' freedoms and should be challenged when unreasonable. The historical context of property rights highlights the need for vigilance against evolving government regulations.Links referenced in this episode:aroundthehouseonline.compacificlegal.orgCompanies mentioned in this episode:Pacific Legal FoundationCalifornia Coastal CommissionThanks for listening to Around the house if you want to hear more please subscribe so you get notified of the latest episode as it posts at https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/listenIf you want to join the Around the House Insider for access to the back catalog, Exclusive Content and a direct email to Eric G and access to the show early https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/support We love comments and we would love reviews on how this information has helped you on your house! We kick things off by celebrating Home Ownership Month, a nod to all the homeowners out there—yes, even you who are still trying to figure out where the light switches are. Eric chats about the wild market shifts, where some states are booming with new residents while others are feeling that slow-motion exit vibe. If you're in the latter group, fear not! But hey, he made it out to Fort Stevens State Park, which is a gem of a spot, packed with history and stunning views. After that, he shifts gears to the housing market, where he's seeing more homes popping up for sale than buyers willing to snap them up. It's like a game of musical chairs, and guess what? The music's about to stop! Lastly, Eric spills the tea on some major outdoor design faux pas that are making backyards look like a time capsule from a decade ago. As we gear up for Memorial Day weekend, the sizzling sound of grills is about to fill the air, and boy, do we have some juicy BBQ tips to share! First off, let's chat about the often neglected task of cleaning our grills. I mean, come on, it's been sitting there all winter, probably gathering more dust than a forgotten sock under the bed. I'm here to tell you that giving your grill a solid clean is not just a chore; it's a rite of passage into grilling season! We dive into some nifty tricks, like using aluminum foil to line the catch basin of your gas grill. Who knew that a simple kitchen staple could simplify your BBQ game? Plus, I share my secret weapon: digital meat thermometers. These handy gadgets are like the GPS for your meat; they help you navigate the tricky terrain of cooking times and temperatures. Let's face it, nobody wants to serve up a piece of chicken that could double as a hockey puck! But wait, it's not just about grilling! We also tackle a serious topic regarding a recall on Generac pressure washers. Yep, you heard that right! If you're planning to toss your hat in the ring, they've got insider tips to help you navigate the murky waters of real estate. From the importance of assembling your dream team of realtors and lenders before house hunting (seriously, don't wing it!) to the art of negotiating commissions, they cover it all. Plus, they share anecdotes from their own experiences, highlighting how crucial it is to do your homework before making a big purchase. So grab a notepad and get ready to jot down some solid advice because this episode is a goldmine for anyone looking to buy or sell in 2026.Takeaways:In 2026, interest rates are still hovering around 5.5% to 6%, a significant change from the previous 3% days, making it crucial for buyers to adapt their strategies accordingly. Before buying a home, it's absolutely essential to assemble your real estate team, including a trusted realtor and mortgage advisor, to avoid any unpleasant surprises later on.The importance of understanding the neighborhood dynamics cannot be overstated; local Facebook groups can reveal insights about potential changes that traditional listings might not mention. When selling your home, consider small investments like a garage door replacement, which can yield a surprisingly high return compared to larger renovations like kitchen remodels.Navigating the real estate market requires vigilance; unexpected neighborhood developments, like a new homeless shelter, can dramatically affect property values and livability.Don't skimp on inspections; having a home inspection before selling can save you from major headaches and expenses down the line, especially in competitive markets.Links referenced in this episode:aroundthehouseonline.comCompanies mentioned in this episode:Red WingThanks for listening to Around the house if you want to hear more please subscribe so you get notified of the latest episode as it posts at https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/listenIf you want to join the Around the House Insider for access to the back catalog, Exclusive Content and a direct email to Eric G and access to the show early https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/support We love comments and we would love reviews on how this information has helped you on your house! This week, we're diving deep into the nitty-gritty of lawn care just in time for Memorial Day. Now, let's be real—no one wants a lawn that looks like it's auditioning for a horror flick, so we're here to ensure yours is the envy of the neighborhood. I'm talking about some essential maintenance tips that'll have your grass looking lush and green. First off, let's chat about lawnmower love. A sharp blade is your best friend—think of it as giving your grass a fresh haircut rather than a buzz cut! I've got a little secret: I keep two sets of blades handy so I can keep things sharp without skipping a beat. Plus, who wants to mess around with a dull mower? No one, that's who! And while we're at it, let's not forget about fertilizing. It's like feeding your lawn a power snack, but make sure you're not overdoing it. We discuss the importance of checking soil nutrients, and I might just drop some recommendations on how to get that done without turning your yard into a science experiment. So grab your garden gloves, tune in, and let's get your lawn looking like a million bucks—without breaking the bank!Takeaways:Spring is the perfect time to check your lawnmower's blade sharpness, ensuring a clean cut for a lush lawn.Don't just mow your lawn; make sure to never cut more than a third of the grass height to keep it healthy and thriving!Consider using a lawn care service that sends you specific nutrients based on your soil's needs, avoiding the dreaded over-fertilizing disaster.Watering is crucial, especially in regions where summer droughts are common, so avoid letting your lawn turn into a crispy critter! If you're planting seeds, now's the time! Waiting until the heat of summer can lead to a lawn care nightmare later on.Maintaining your lawn equipment with quality gas and regular maintenance will save you hassle and ensure your gear runs smoothly all season long.Links referenced in this episode:aroundthehouseonline.comaroundthehousehqaroundthehouseericgCompanies mentioned in this episode:Pacific Crest Custom CabinetsAround the House HQThanks for listening to Around the house if you want to hear more please subscribe so you get notified of the latest episode as it posts at https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/listenIf you want to join the Around the House Insider for access to the back catalog, Exclusive Content and a direct email to Eric G and access to the show early https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/support We love comments and we would love reviews on how this information has helped you on your house!
