Desert Springs family, we are thrilled to share an incredible story with you today! Hopefully, you had the chance to hear Pastor Steve's inspiring sermon at the start of January, where he unveiled the vision and dreams for 2025. A key part of that vision includes partnering with a pre-existing church plant in Palm Springs, CA, called Passion Church. Our host, Sarah Schalow, had the privilege of sitting down with Pastor TJ and Jess McCall, who have been leading Passion Church since 2023. If you call Desert Springs home, we strongly encourage you to tune in to this conversation to learn more about Passion Church and the heart behind TJ and Jess's ministry. The conversation kicks off with TJ sharing about his upbringing in Monterey, where church was more of a moral obligation than a personal conviction. As a teenager, he began questioning matters of faith and grew deeply skeptical. You'll have to listen to hear about the path TJ was heading down and how God intervened, radically transforming his heart and life. Jess shares her own story, describing a childhood rooted in faith but lacking that deep passion for Jesus until her late teens. God's hand was evident as He brought TJ and Jess together, and shortly after marrying, they dove headfirst into ministry. While their journey has been filled with joy, it has also included significant challenges, including experiencing intense church hurt. Despite the pain, their love for ministry never wavered. God eventually led them to serve at a church in Arizona, a season that prepared them for something even greater—planting Passion Church in Palm Springs. There's so much more to their story than we can summarize here, so don't miss out on hearing it all! Their testimony of perseverance, faith, and obedience will inspire and encourage your heart.Learn more about Passion Church in Palm SpringsFollow Passion Church on InstagramFollow Passion Church on FacebookLearn more about Venture Church Network (which Desert Springs and Passion Church are a part of)Want to share your story on The Stories Collective podcast in 2025? Summary In the pre-conference Sunday Evening service, Pastor TJ discusses the importance of power in life, particularly in the context of faith and ministry. He emphasizes that life can drain us of energy and strength, and that true power comes from God. Through biblical references, he illustrates how individuals can find renewal and strength by binding themselves to God, who is the ultimate source of power. Chapters00:00 Introduction and Acknowledgments03:10 The Need for Power in Life15:02 The Source of Power20:50 Binding to God for StrengthTakeaways Life drains people of strength and energy. Power is not stagnant; it flows and moves. Relationships and ministry can be draining. God is the sole distributor of power. Real power comes from the creator of life. We need to admit our weakness to God. Binding ourselves to God brings strength. God's power enables us to change and endure. Waiting on the Lord means binding ourselves to Him. God has all the power we need for life. Sound Bites "We need power to function properly." "God gives power to the weak." "Real power only comes from God." "God is my strength and power." Today Pastor TJ dives into Luke 9 with the story of Jesus enabling the disciples to feed the 5000. In the story, Jesus has a long day of preaching to the masses, and the disciples tell Jesus they are all hungry. Jesus then tells the disciples to go and feed them, and they do not understand at first how that is possible with the little food they have. Pastor TJ relates this story in our lives, how God presents us with the opportunity to provide ourselves and others with miracles, but often times we ask "Who, Me?" out of fear or a lack of understanding the unknown instead of stepping up and serving.
This week, we are joined by Pastor TJ Gorum. Pastor TJ encourages us to deeply understand God's deeds so that we can understand His ways.Support the show
