Er erzählt von seiner persönlichen Reise durch die Bassmusikwelt. Marcus säbelte los: “Es fing vor 30 Jahren an. Ich gründete 1992 die Radiosendung Black is Black.” Die Sendung beschäftigte sich vor allem mit HipHop, dabei machte er seine ersten Erfahrungen als Radiomoderator. Schnell wurde Herr Maak etwas bewusst und ergänzte seinen Satz sofort. “Ich merkte aber, dass mir ein Genre nicht reicht. Es ist mir zu eindimensional.” Daraufhin gründete er BTTB - Back To The Basics, ebenfalls im Jahre 1992. Inhaltlich soll sich die Sendung mit mehreren Genres beschäftigen: HipHop, House und Acid Jazz, aber schon schnell kamen UK-Ravetunes und Jungle hinzu. His musical style is heavily influenced by Chicago footwork, hip-hop and the UK bass scene. He likes to sink everything he does into deep atmospheric reverberations and complex ambient textures. He released a self-produced debut album "In The Past Her Memories Were Here" on September 2012 and a bunch of split albums under the Sirona Records label. After that, he decided to take a change into his style, moving from his earlier future garage, dark dubby hip-hop style to something faster, more abstract, complex, experimental but dance. 2011 was a crazy year for me. So much opportunity, so much success, so many new sounds and diverse styles of music – the rate & amount of music that I received daily/weekly was almost too much for me to handle at times and still is. It is not easy keeping up with so many different styles of music, in fact I still feel like I’m behind on certain bpms. If I had to choose one style of sound that has hit me the most as of lately it would obviously be any sound that has Bass emphasis in it. Whether its 808s, echo chambers tied in with reverb bass-lines, deep synthesizers, with crispy smooth-rhythmic percussions and hi-tech drums/snares… all of it – it has me right in the chest. I coined this terminology of sound called Deep-Thought music. Basically any track that is deep, heavy, soulful, and constant -- making you think of your day, life, achievements, inspirations, issues, ect is basically deep thought music.
