The jungle, as we envision it, is made of dense vegetation, where the sun never beats due to a dense tangle of trees and lianas. The sounds of wildlife interrupt the silence of a seemingly uninhabited place. But there is another jungle, not characterized by dense vegetation, but by cement, skyscrapers, large and small streets crossed by millions of people moving like ants. It 's the urban jungle. The one made of large cities. The one that never sleeps, frenetic and chaotic. The one that goes to 160 BPM. Well, this is the "jungle" of Lynch Kingsley. The 9th episode of The Tape podcasts, contaminated by the footwork and updated to the new sounds, leads us in the metropolitan chaos where you never stop. So press play and start moving! TRACKLIST 1. Rockwell - *)* [808] [Exit Records] 2. dBridge - Move Way [R&S Records] 3. Machinedrum - Gunshotta (Fracture’s Astrophonica Remix) [Ninja Tune] 4. Omni Trio - Torn [Moving Shadow] 5. Walton - Frisbee [Hyperdub] 12. XXXY - Open Your Eyes [Orca Recordings] LYNCH KINGSLEY Lynch Kingsley is an electronic music producer from Rome, Italy. His musical style is heavily influenced by Chicago footwork, hip-hop and the UK bass scene. He likes to sink everything he does into deep atmospheric reverberations and complex ambient textures. He released a self-produced debut album "In The Past Her Memories Were Here" on September 2012 and a bunch of split albums under the Sirona Records label. After that, he decided to take a change into his style, moving from his earlier future garage, dark dubby hip-hop style to something faster, more abstract, complex, experimental but dance. Music for the body and the ears. A piano solo breaking the silence, introduces the selection of the Episode 8 of The Tape. Stèv, with its selection, takes us by the hand and leads us to explore the world of the Beats Music. A world that brings the electronic music to the HipHop style, made of massive grooves, but always elegant, supported by soothing melodies at times almost ambient (Hammock - Winter Lights), other times (Dj Shadow - Six Days) tending definitely to the most familiar HipHop style. But above all, with an oriental flavor of that "music beats" of the Orient made by Stèv the real star of this mixtape .... A classy selection! TRACKLIST 01. Yoshimori Makoto - Kimi ga Yobu Namae - Yume no Tsuzuki (君が呼ぶ名前ー夢の続き) 02. Teebs - Wind Loop [Proximal] 03. Prefuse 73 - Uprock and Invigorate (Prefuse Dabrye Production) 04. DJ Krush - Kemuri (Untouchable Mix) [Mo Wax] 05. Baths - Lovely Bloodflow [Modular Recordings] 06. Koda - Limnos [Silk Sofa Music] 07. Hammock - Winter Light [Hammock Music] 08. DJ Shadow - Six Days [Hip-O Records] 09. Bonobo - The Keeper (Grasscut Bitter Peace Remix) [Ninja Tune] 10. fLako - Crying On The In [Project Mooncircle] 11. Samon Kawamura - Destination Blue [Nesola] 12. Haruka Nakamura - Memoria [Kitchen Label] STÈV (Stefano Fagnani) Born and raised in a city between the hills and the sea, fascinated by nature and with a strong daydreaming attitude, Stèv makes music that merges an emotional aestethic research with a sympathy for fresh electronic sonorities, exploring the different sides between acoustic and synthetic, inspired by almost everything. Multi-instrumentalist and producer, constantly working on his musical skills, he also studied sound engineering to consolidate his technical knowledge in a more professional way, intrigued not only by melodies and harmonies but also by sound and its manipulation (often going around catching noises with a portable recorder and then integrating them into his works). It comes out an array of tunes that puts together live musical instruments, analog / digital gears, homemade percussions and field recordings along with intricate electronic programming, ranging from future sounds to minimalist instrumental composition. In addition to his studio works, he also performs live using a varied setup of several musical instruments beside live electronics, playing, editing and layering everything right in front of the audience using a loop station and other live looping tricks. Urban landscapes, desolate and crowded at the same time, as can happen only at nighttime. Small dark alleys between the skyscrapers of a modern metropolis. The wet asphalt with a slight but steady rain. The silence broken only by the sirens of the ambulances and the chatter of groups of drunk guys. Here is the ideal setting for an epic, experimental at times futuristic and industrial sound. This is the sound of Odd Shapes, Danish beats-oriented artist, guest of the 7° episode of THE TAPE podcast. The mixtape starts in an epic "key" (with Forest Swords and Holy Other). Epic theme that is never abandoned for the whole mix but, thanks to Four Tet, Burial, Oneohtrix Point Never, Illum Sphere, assumes ambient, industrial and futuristic variations that alternate between them and find a meeting point in the Odd Shapes' songs (Nightfall, Inferior - Odd Shapes Remix). Tracklist: 01 Forest Swords - Friend, You Will Never Learn [Tri Angle Records] 02 Holy Other - Tense Past [Tri Angle Records] 03 DyE - Fantasy [Tigersushi Records] 04 Odd Shapes - Nightfall [Polaron Collective] 05 FKA Twigs - Papi Pacify [Young Turks Records] 06 Borealis - Nightfall (Ben Lukas Boysen Remix) [Origami Sound] 07 Lorn - Weigh Me Down (Illum Sphere Remix) [NinjaTune] 08 Four Tet - Parallel Jalebi [Text Records] 09 Oneohtrix Point Never - Zebra [Warp Records] 10 Blak Nite - MoNY [Dark Clover Records] 11 Burial - Come Down to Us [Hyperdub Records] 12 Oneohtrix Point Never - Chrome Country [Warp Records] 13 NuGravity - Don't Make Me Fly, Don't Make Me Cry [Plastik Sound] 14 Amphior - Inferior (Odd Shapes Remix) [Unreleased] 15 Nocow - Mist [Origami Sound] 16 Jon Hopkins - Abandon Window [Domino Records] ODD SHAPES Denmark based Odd Shapes released his debut EP through Dark Clover Records in 2012. Since then he has been doing a lot of single tracks and remixes on various labels. In his productions the fine blend of haunting details and, at times uplifting, evocative compositions comes in contrast with futuristic nuances of beats-oriented music. Some Important Events: - A Strangely Isolated Place recently put out a beautiful double vinyl whereon Echaskech remixes my track "Desert Plant" - Origami Sound is releasing my 2nd EP "Intense Appreciation" on 14.02 2014. There will be released a couple of teaser videos up till the date on my website oddshapes.net which is under construction at the moment. - Also I just started a project called 'Lattice' with a fellow producer from Denmark. When there are songs by artists such as Leafcutter, Nicolas Jaar, Four Tet, Afterhours, Olafur Arnalds (just to name a few) in the same mix, to mention the undisputed quality of each individual track is unnecessary. But when these songs are mixed together by an artist like Michael Lovisa, master in creating unique moods (listen to believe his last remix of The Last Day by Moby, inside the mix….ah, you can download it for free: https://soundcloud.com/michaellovisa/moby-the-last-day-michael ), where acoustic instruments, electronic beats and vocals (like Grow Up With Me by musician poet Keaton Henson) alternate with moments of silence capable of enhancing the simple melodies, there would be much to say and to weave praises. But, after listening to it, it's easy to be speechless, to enjoy that last moment of silence before returning to the chaotic and noisy reality. However, something simple and commonplace is worth to say: close your eyes, press play, turn up the volume and relax .... bon voyage! TRACKLIST: 01 Leafcutter John - 42 [Planet Mu] 02 Verdena - Apice [Black Out/Universal] 03 Nicolas Jaar - Balance her in between your eyes [Circus Company] 04 The xx - Angels (Four Tet remix) [Young Turks] 05 Moby - The last day (Michael Lovisa remix) [Self-released] 06 Afterhours - Simbiosi [Mescal] 07 Finn. - Dew [Erased Tapes] 08 Glen Hansard - Leave [Sony/Columbia] 09 Keaton Henson - Grow up with me [Unreleased, Last.fm session] 10 Cloud Boat - Bastion [Apollo] 11 Olafur Arnalds - Til enda [Erased Tapes] 12 Blixa Bargeld & Teho Teardo - Come up and see me [Specula Records] 13 Mogwai - Sine wave [Matador] MICHAEL LOVISA Michael Lovisa, born in 1987, is an italian producer/multi-instrumentalist who likes to experiment creating delicate and soft moments with simple melodies mixing acoustic instruments, electronic sounds and different genres. This time the mix is featured by a young Italian artist, BODWAN. From academic studies of saxophone to the future garage and post-dubstep. Sometimes the step may be short. This is the case of Alberto Pagnin (Bodwan) that alongside academic studies, he decided to devote himself to electronic music. Dark sounds, gloomy atmospheres bringing to mind desolate urban landscapes. This is the sound that characterizes Bodwan and the fourth episode of The Tape, but only in the second half of the mix. The first part of the mix shows an unexpected side of Alberto, temporarily leaving the dark sounds, it shows a different face, more solar (without ever abandoning the 2 Step rhythm characterizing the entire mix), as if to show a cityscape passing, within 24 hours, from a most dynamic rhythm of solar hours to a grim scenario that gives us only the illusion of immobility (characterized by less pronounced groove).
