Today's episode and writing workout feature the art and life of Prano Bailey-Bond. Prano is an award-winning filmmaker and screenwriter who grew up on a diet of Twin Peaks in the depths of a strange Welsh community. Her work invokes imaginative worlds, fusing a dark vocabulary with eerie allure, revealing how beauty resides in strange places. Prano shares with Dr Rachel Knightley her early influences, creative fuel and sources of confidence and how directing her debut feature was when she reengaged with being a writer. And I think I'm probably the latter.” Prano Bailey-Bond Take a blank sheet of paper and choose one of these questions: What do I want to say? What do I want to ask? Tip: If the answer is ‘I don't know', dare yourself to fill the line anyway. Then maybe the next. Give it a few minutes – because the flow takes turning the tap on. Main Exercise: Read your answer back to yourself. What visual images come up? Or what conversations between characters in your life? Draw one of the images. Write one of the conversations (the actual dialogue – what the characters say to each other/how they argue with each other!).

We go outside Victoria Trades Hall on Tuesday 29th of May with a very large crowd of people gathered for the unveiling of the workers' hero Zelda D'prano. A fighter for women's equality and a mighty Union woman. Speeches from Will Struke, Julia Gillard, Dr Claire Wright and a chat with Alma Geekie.
Joining me today is Prano Bailey-Bond, the filmmaker who wrote and directed Censor, a movie that takes place during the U.K. "Video Nasties" era and tells the story of Enid, a film censor who screens all these videos to implement cuts of scenes deemed too dangerous to be viewed. The movie asks if watching violent movies causes people to act violent, then what prevents censors from also becoming violent. I wanted to have Prano on the podcast to talk about censorship and give us some insight into our not-so-distant past and how that might have shaped today's standards and regulations. Are we doomed to repeat ourselves? You can stream Censor on Prime or buy the Blu-Ray Follow Prano on Instagram. Support Creative Culture on Patreon.

The director of Censor discusses her debut feature, the video nasties hysteria and film censorship.
PUBLIC VERSION. Filmmaker Prano Bailey-Bond (CENSOR) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen from across the pond to share her career journey. From originally wanting to be an actress… to discovering that directing encompassed all of the aspects of story telling that she loved… to putting on an original theater production inspired by THE EVIL DEAD and THE COMPANY OF WOLVES that incorporated cameras on stage… to learning how to edit her own footage linearly (tape to tape) and absorbing the disciplines that came with it… to the importance of always having a solid plan (even if the plan will inevitably change when facing limited time and resources) and thinking like an editor on set… to how the BBFC has reacted to her directorial debut CENSOR and it's depiction of the organization during the UK's “Video Nasty” era… to the psychology behind why banning something only makes people even more passionate about seeing it… this conversation shows just why Prano is such an exciting new voice to watch! Dr. Arwen took this week off from “Hollywood Therapy” as she needed to help bring down Adam's blood pressure after he shared his thoughts on the new WOODSTOCK '99 documentary in a blistering new “Unpopular Opinion” segment.

Film censor Enid takes pride in her meticulous work, guarding unsuspecting audiences from the deleterious effects of watching the gore-filled decapitations and eye gougings she pores over. Her sense of duty to protect is amplified by guilt over her inability to recall details of the long-ago disappearance of her sister, recently declared dead in absentia. When Enid is assigned to review a disturbing film from the archive that echoes her hazy childhood memories, she begins to unravel how this eerie work might be tied to her past. We welcome writer Kim Morrison to dive into reviewing the film and Lee and Dallas interview the co-writer & director Prano Bailey-Bond and star Niamh Algar to take us behind the scenes.

In this episode, we speak to director Prano Bailey-Bond about her debut feature film Censor, its inspiration & the 'video nasties' era. Listeners can find out insider knowledge about Prano and her co-writer Anthony Fletcher's research visits to the BBFC, the film's classification and the horror directors that inspired her.
I'm back! Not with a brand new season - just yet - but with a triple-bill of bonus episodes that I recorded a couple of months ago either for live events or to tie-in with a film release. The first in this series is with the immensely talented, and very down-to-earth writer-director Prano Bailey-Bond. Prano grew up in Wales on a diet of Twin Peaks before becoming an editor and then award-winning music video director. Her narrative short films have screened at festivals worldwide and earned her critical acclaim, including being named a Screen International ‘Star of Tomorrow' in 2018. Her debut feature film, Censor, had its world premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival opening the festival's Midnight section and will be released in UK cinemas this Friday. Censor is set in Britain in 1985 and follows a film censor called Enid, played by BAFTA-nominated actress Niamh Algar, as she discovers an eerie horror that speaks directly to her sister's mysterious disappearance. She then resolves to unravel the puzzle behind the film and its enigmatic director – a quest that will blur the lines between fiction and reality in terrifying ways. Which sounds suitably nerve-shredding… I actually saw the film last week and its disturbing and hallucinogenic and suitably nasty, and that's all I'm going to say because it's probably best you go in with minimal info. Prano and I discuss many things: how she discovered directing was her calling, the conditions she prefers in order to write, how she prepares for a shoot, how she communicates with and directs actors, how she established a common visual language with DP Annika Summerson and what it's been like releasing a horror film amidst a ‘women-directing-genre-films' boom. It was a really lovely conversation, I'm a big fan of Prano's and the film's so I highly recommend you book a ticket immediately after listening to the podcast.
Horror experts and Censor filmmakers talk gender, guts and gore - and the things we might not want to remember… First up, critics Clarisse Loughrey and Leila Latif get to the guts of the exciting new British horror film Censor, celebrating its role in the female horror renaissance. They debate the movie's meta-messages and share their own experiences of the video nasties era - or, in Clarisse's case, the stateside ‘Satanic Panic'. Next, Censor director Prano Bailey-Bond and star Niamh Algar join Anna to discuss the retro chiller, set amidst the moral panic of the 1980s video nasties craze. Niamh reveals her experience of playing the movie's highly-strung film censor Enid, whose repressed trauma rises to the surface thanks to one of the gory slashers she's handed for the snip. From cult horror to the culture wars, Prano shares her inspirations and fascinating research for the film - plus what it was like to shoot its more stomach-churning scenes! From the feminist highlights of Censor to overdue reappraisals of genre-classics, there's plenty to chew on for fans of a psychological scare. Censor is in UK cinemas August 20th 2021. The name Prano Bailey-Bond is already known in both the horror community and as a director-to-watch, and this is before the UK release of her brilliant debut Censor. She talks about writing and directing the acclaimed film and how she obsessed on The Evil Dead so much that she went into the BBFC to look at the film's editing notes when researching her own film. She also details how she made a disturbing music video with only herself as the star, with one light gaffa-taped to a ladder and editing it for six months around her job in a pub and working with her lead actress, Niamh Algar. Prano's short film work over the years includes: Man vs Sand, The Trip, Shortcut, and Nasty. What makes a great horror film director? Does it require that you spend every night watching hours and our of VHS tapes filled with nightmare images, terrifying monsters and blood curdling screams? Or does the art of making an audience shit themselves in fear, come from a deeper understanding of the human condition. A fascination with the dark side that everyone has -- so desperately tries to hide. Horror film directors Mike Pecci (director of 12KM & Who's There) and Prano Bailey-Bond (director of CENSOR) discuss the images that have shaped their careers, the human traits that draw them to a story, and why they chose horror film making as the art form to tell human stories. On this special episode, Mike talks with writer/director Prano Bailey-Bond about her feature film debut, Censor (2021). It's the story of Enid (Niamh Algar), a censor during the UK's "video nasty" era who's sister has gone missing. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Set in 1985, against the backdrop of social hysteria surrounding gory British video nasties. CENSOR is a psychological horror starring Niamh Algar (Raised By Wolves, The Virtues, Calm With Horses). Film censor Enid takes pride in her meticulous work, guarding unsuspecting audiences from the deleterious effects of watching the gore-filled decapitations and eye-gougings she pores over. After viewing the strangely familiar video nasty at work, Enid attempts to solve the past mystery of her sister's disappearance, embarking on a quest that dissolves the line between fiction and reality. CENSOR had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival 2021, opening the Midnight section of the festival, and will have it's European premiere at Berlinale - Berlin International Film Festival. Director Prano Bailey-Bond stops by for a conversation on her debut feature film that flawlessly captures the frightening ambiance of the “nasties” while plumbing the depths of Enid's defenseless psyche. L'energia è energia, in base a dove viene condotta prende altre forme e funzionalità.

In this episode, Zigola talks about how co-creative partnerships are the foundation in the community where she lives, Damanhur, and how co-creation with nature plays a role in her work as a singer, teacher, and practitioner. Damanhur is a federation of Communities in Northern Italy with a focus on living in harmony with all that lives. Ecology, art, spirituality, and co-creation with nature are key elements of the community. Situated in the Valley of Valchiusella, around 400 Damanhurians live there and participate locally in the projects. Other thousands of Damanhurian citizens live around the world collaborating and initiating projects related to teaching, community building, ecology, and the creation of sacred spaces in harmony with nature. In her work, she is confronted on a daily basis with how nature’s intelligence is reaching out to help humans evolve and to develop together towards a sustainable future. As a practitioner she uses her connection with nature to help people raise their frequency, to live a happy and healthy life, and to be in connection with nature.About ZigolaZigola Pioppo works as a singer, teacher, and practitioner, all in the field of the union between nature and humans. She has a Master of Science degree in Sustainable Energy and Human-Technology Interaction and has worked as a consultant in this field for corporate businesses. After several years of focus on a scientific approach to a sustainable future, the focus of her work changed more to the spiritual connection with nature and the work as a practitioner for individuals. She combines her passion for music (she studied Jazz singing in different institutes amongst which the Conservatory of Amsterdam) and healing (she is a Prano therapist of the Spiritual Healing School of Damanhur) with her work and connection with nature and developed a healing method in which technology, voice, and plants come together. She currently teaches courses for the Damanhur University, such as “Communication with the Plant World” and teaches her own courses on using the voice as a channel with nature. As a practitioner she helps people with their health issues and with getting clarity on how to live their lives without obstructions, standing in their full potential. In her sessions she collaborates with the intelligence of the plant world, integrating the technology of the Music of the Plants in her work. As a singer, she performs concerts in nature, with the music of the plants and the use of her voice. Today the Siege in 60 Podcast team were joined by Prano, one of the players of Team Secret (on which Omerta is a coach). From the initial loan move (GoSkilla -> OrgLess) to being one of the best players in EU, Prano talks to us about what makes an effective team, what makes him tick, and reflects on Team Secret's year to date. Filled with the usual comedic interactions with Twitch chat, there's a lot to enjoy in this episode including a more solemn breakdown of Chaos' road to disaster from Fresh.

Our conversation with the lovely Prano Bailey-Bond over-ran and we were unable to squeeze it all in to episode 8. Once we finished our interview we carried on chatting a little longer and it turned into quite an enlightening little chin-wag. So much so that we have decided to release it as a bonus episode. Enjoy!
Aaron and Marc are joined by prolific indie horror director Prano Bailey-Bond. They talk David Lynch, nightmares, The Shining obsessions, obscure 70s horror and Prano's upcoming debut feature 'Censor'.

A staple in the Boston Hip Hop scene since 2007, Prano comes by the show to talk about where he's been since his last project, "Pranobama 3" in 2016. The fly talking, East Coast street rapper talked about a few things with Chizz like how he feels there's not a lot of rappers in his scene who can perform at a high level like him. Chizz does drill him about not putting out enough content and he countered with the announcement of his EP coming out within the last few days of March or early April. We're still awaiting his studio album, P.R.A.N.O. as well. Another piece of the #MaSheenMilitia
