In this week's Best Of episode, we present two stories of people who had to leave home to find a new home.Part 1: When Ph.D student Ali Mattu's girlfriend tells him she is moving to New York City, he has to make some tough decisions about where home is. Part 2: Arlo Pérez Esquivel struggles to define his boundaries with his father while he is pursuing his education in another country.Ali Mattu is a cognitive behavioral therapist who helps kids and adults with anxiety disorders. Through YouTube, Dr. Mattu teaches a global audience how to use psychological science to achieve their goals. He's created over 100 videos for his YouTube channel, The Psych Show, which have been seen over 1,400,00 million times. He has been interviewed by the New York Times, appeared on Buzzfeed, MTV, CBS, NBC, PBS, and has the honor of being referenced, and not made fun of, on HBO's Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Dr. Mattu is a licensed clinical psychologist and was an assistant professor at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York City. He presently serves on the Board of Directors of The Story Collider and creates curriculum for the Pop Culture Hero Coalition. He has served in a variety of leadership roles within the American Psychological Association. Arlo Pérez Esquivel was raised in Mexico until the age of 16, when he left for the United States. There, he moved across multiple states, and lived in the homes of different friends and relatives in order to finish his education. During this constant movement, Arlo developed a passion for street photography. His work attempts to investigate the “sense of place” by capturing people, their environment, and the relationship between the two. He is now a Digital Associate Producer for NOVA on PBS, currently working on a ten-part digital series on how life and science are done in Antarctica.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

My guest on Ep. 57 of TatD is a real "get" (as they say in the biz)! Many rock fans know this guy well because his resume goes on for a country mile and his talent stretches even further. Kenny Aaronson first caught this once-young fella's attention as the bassist with the coooool hair in the Billy Squire music videos that were all over MTV back in the day, but when you look at all the people he's played with, both as a sideman and an official band mate, it's kinda insane. Kenny was Rolling Stone's Bassist Of The Year in 1988 and he's played onstage with a list of artists that's just too extensive to name here but these are just a handful.. Bob Dylan, The Yardbirds, Joan Jett, Rick Derrenger, Billy Squire, Billy Idol, Stories, Dust.. which also featured drummer Mark Bell, later known as one Marky Ramone.. and he's also the K in QDK, a band he currently plays in with David Uosikkinen of the Hooters and guitarist Quentin Jones. And to think I actually get to play music with him in David Uosikkinen's In The Pocket a couple times a year.. it's honestly a big thrill.Aside from playing with literal rock legends, Kenny has a broad music palette, which delves into places I never would have expected. Like me, he's a fan of things like Muzak, the Partridge Family, Esquivel, and more. He even makes very cool music on his laptop at home, digging into sound libraries and his taste for steel guitar (think the soundtrack on "Spongebob" but better). He's just an all-around talented guy, who, most importantly, still retains his absolute passion for music making into his 70's. He's an inspiration to many, and i count myself among the KA faithful!Hope you enjoy this convo as much as I did!

This message from Sarah Esquivel invites us into a transformative understanding of worship that extends far beyond singing songs or attending services. At its heart is David's response in 2 Samuel 7 when God redirects his plans to build a temple.Instead of demanding explanations or pushing forward with his own agenda, David simply sits before the Lord. This profound act of sitting, of tarrying in God's presence without rushing or striving, reveals the first essential element of true worship: intimacy over activity. We're challenged to examine whether our relationship with God is characterized by hurried transactions or by comfortable communion. The message draws a striking parallel to Mary and Martha, reminding us that while many things compete for our attention, only one thing is truly needed. When we learn to remain in God's presence throughout our ordinary moments, our corporate worship becomes an overflow rather than a starting point. This isn't about achieving perfect spiritual discipline but about gentle attentiveness to our hearts and affections toward God.The way of worship begins not in our ability to perform but in our willingness to simply be with Him, recognizing that He desires our presence more than our productivity.Website: https://impact.church Facebook: https://facebook.com/ImpactChurchHome Instagram: https://instagram.com/ImpactChurchHome YouTube: https://youtube.com/@impactchurchhome TikTok: https://tiktokcom/@impactchurchhome

California's water system was built for a wetter century—and now the state is racing to turn wastewater into a reliable part of its supply portfolio. In this episode, Joaquin Esquivel, chair of the California State Water Resources Control Board, breaks down where water reuse fits in California's long-term strategy, and what it will take to scale it safely and affordably. The conversation spans the state's role as both regulator and funder, including the adoption of direct potable reuse regulations, the safeguards designed to protect public health, and the need for “regulatory certainty” that helps projects move from concept to construction. Esquivel also shares the numbers behind California's current reuse footprint—roughly 750,000 to 800,000 acre-feet annually—and the state's goals to expand that supply in the coming decades while balancing discharges needed for instream flows. The episode tackles the “yuck factor” head-on, explaining why monitoring, testing, and transparent communication are essential to maintaining trust as systems move toward direct connections. And it spotlights a looming constraint few people see coming: a major wave of retirements that could reshape the water workforce just as advanced treatment becomes the new normal. This episode is part of The Golden State of Reuse, a series exploring the past, present, and future of water recycling across California. The series is a collaboration with WateReuse California and sponsored by CDM Smith. The series is also supported by the Sacramento Area Sewer District, Black & Veatch, and Monterey One Water.waterloop is a nonprofit news outlet exploring solutions for water sustainability.

Click here to send me a quick message :) So many of us live with some form of chronic or acute pain. We get used to it, we look for ways to relieve it, we may find some things that work - temporarily or long term. Sometimes that's movement practices, sometimes it's bodywork, sometimes it's structural adjustments, etc. But more often than not, we're not actually looking to the root of the pain. And unfortunately if it's connective tissue or bone-based, it can often be exacerbated in transitional times like postpartum or perimenopause / post-menopause.After many years of offering Structural Integration style bodywork, Mia Esquivel found that for both her own post-menopausal body and for her clients, she wasn't seeing the relief she knew could be possible. So she started seeking solutions outside of her bodywork box and came upon something called "Applied Neurology" and it has been a GAME CHANGER for herself and her clients.Listen in to hear all about it (and a little on her perimenopause and post-menopause story - hint: you might never guess that foot pain could be related to hormonal shifts!).Resources:Today's shownotes: Get links to Mia's offerings Free guide: 10 Key Herbs for Your Hormonal HealthEpisode 110: Healing chronic pelvic pain w Julia DyerEpisode 169: From a year of debilitating endo pain to feeling well w Mary Lauren FraserIf you loved this episode, share it with a friend, or take a screenshot and share on social media and tag me @herbalwombwisdomAnd if you love this podcast, leave a rating & write a review! While Part 1 introduced Esquivel's framework of space, volume, and time, this episode focuses on the next frontier—provisionalization, emergence-profile design, and the E-B-C concept that defines the biologic foundations of aesthetic implant therapy. Dr. Esquivel begins by demystifying the provisionalization workflow for anterior implants—whether immediate or delayed. He walks listeners step by step through decision-making factors such as ridge healing, tissue phenotype, and the importance of minimizing the number of disconnections to protect the fragile mucosal seal. He stresses that efficiency in implant dentistry isn't about finishing fast—it's about achieving predictability in the fewest biologically respectful appointments. The discussion then turns to the team-based dynamics between the restorative dentist and the surgeon. Dr. Esquivel details how he coordinates cases digitally, sending STL files and mock-ups for joint planning before the first incision. His six-phase system—Acquisition, Blueprint, Confirmation, Design, Execution, and Follow-up—illustrates how restorative-driven implant dentistry must begin with facial and prosthetic design, not with a drill guide. From there, the episode dives into the chairside artistry of immediate provisionalization. Using a pre-milled shell and temporary cylinder, Dr. Esquivel describes how to "pick up" a provisional and sculpt the subgingival contours in real time. But as he emphasizes, the true challenge lies not in fabrication—but in understanding how material additions and reductions influence soft-tissue behavior. This insight leads to one of the most clinically valuable segments of the episode: Dr. Esquivel's E-B-C concept, an evolution of the classic critical- and subcritical-contour framework. The E-Zone (Esthetic Zone), roughly the first millimeter below the gingival zenith, governs margin stability and the visible pink–white transition. The B-Zone (Biologic or Boundary Zone) supports the mucosal seal and should remain concave to create space for healthy soft tissue. The C-Zone (Crestal Zone), the most apical 1–2 mm, must be slim and biologically quiet to preserve the crestal bone. Dr. Esquivel explains how even subtle over-contouring in these zones can trigger recession or bone loss, while proper shaping promotes long-term harmony between implant and tissue. Using tactile language, he describes his preference for pear-shaped acrylic burs to sculpt the concavity of the B-zone, and how digital workflows now allow clinicians to model these micro-contours virtually before any material is placed. The conversation culminates in a reflection on philosophy as much as technique. Dr. Esquivel urges clinicians to focus on mastering the basics—aesthetic symmetry, biologic respect, and patience—rather than chasing novelty. "An implant is not a tooth," he reminds us. "Our goal is to protect the bone, guide the tissue, and understand what we can't see." Listeners will leave this episode with a detailed understanding of: How to design, print, or fabricate custom provisionals that shape the soft tissue biologically The dimensional logic behind the E-B-C zones and how each governs tissue stability Why limiting abutment disconnections preserves the mucosal seal How digital and analog workflows can be integrated seamlessly And the mindset shift required to see implants not as prosthetic devices, but as biologic restorations Part 2 is both a masterclass in subgingival design and a meditation on restraint. Dr. Esquivel reminds us that excellence in implant aesthetics doesn't come from doing more—it comes from doing less, but with absolute intention.

Known for his meticulous approach and his evidence-based framework of space, volume, and time, Dr. Esquivel brings clarity to one of dentistry's most challenging frontiers: the anterior aesthetic zone. They begin by examining why restoring a single anterior implant is often considered the ultimate test of restorative mastery. Dr. Esquivel explains that implants behave fundamentally differently from natural roots—they lack the periodontal ligament and its vascular support—making soft tissue far less forgiving. Even slight changes in tissue contour or bone volume can compromise long-term success. He introduces his four cornerstones for implant predictability: luck (biologic variability), three-dimensional positioning, emergence-profile design, and patient maintenance, emphasizing that precision and patient education are inseparable. The conversation then turns to three-dimensional implant positioning and the role of reverse-engineered planning. Dr. Esquivel insists that every implant must begin with the end in mind—by first visualizing where the tooth should be. He details how ideal placement, roughly 4 mm apical to the planned incisal edge and aligned toward the cingulum, forms the foundation for natural emergence and long-term stability. But true success, he notes, depends equally on interdisciplinary collaboration—sometimes requiring orthodontic repositioning or periodontal modification before an implant is ever placed. Dr. Esquivel and Dr. Seibert next tackle the aesthetic challenge of adjacent implants and the pursuit of symmetry. Perfect papillae between centrals are notoriously difficult to maintain, and Dr. Esquivel discusses techniques—from soft-tissue grafting to orthodontic extrusion—to preserve harmony between the pink and the white. He stresses that treatment planning is as much about patient selection and expectation management as it is about surgical technique: "The hardest part isn't the implant—it's finding a patient willing to go through the process." The discussion deepens into the critical role of soft tissue in achieving lasting aesthetics. Dr. Esquivel explains his distinction between margin-preservation therapies (maintaining existing tissue contours) and margin-re-establishment therapies (rebuilding lost dimensions). He makes a compelling case that most anterior implants benefit from connective-tissue grafting, since thicker tissue phenotypes promote margin stability, mask restorative materials, and protect against recession. From there, the episode explores ridge dimensional changes after extraction—why bone and soft-tissue collapse are inevitable without intervention, and how provisional restorations can slow this process. Dr. Esquivel cautions against relying on removable flippers, which may accelerate resorption, and instead advocates for properly designed Essix retainers or fixed provisionals that maintain space without transmitting occlusal pressure. His guiding principle: space, volume, and time—allowing tissue to heal in an environment that supports both biological integrity and aesthetic form. The conversation culminates with an in-depth reflection on the biological and prosthetic purpose of provisionalization. Drawing on insights from Dr. Todd Schoenbaum, Dr. Esquivel reframes the provisional phase not as optional, but as biologically mandatory. The provisional guides tissue healing, allows for gradual adaptation, and provides essential information for the ceramist—ensuring that the final crown replicates the ideal emergence contours established chairside. As Dr. Esquivel puts it, "Dentists should take credit not for the white, but for the pink—the transition zone we've designed and stabilized." By the end of this episode, listeners will gain a detailed understanding of: How to apply Dr. Esquivel's space–volume–time model to aesthetic implant planning The biologic reasoning behind connective-tissue grafting and margin-preservation therapies Why provisionalization is central to both soft-tissue stability and prosthetic accuracy How to communicate healing timelines and realistic expectations to patients Part one of this series is both technically rigorous and refreshingly human—an exploration of how aesthetic implant success lies not in speed or convenience, but in respecting biology, sequencing, and time.

We're reminded that God relates to us based on Christ's righteousness, not our own behavior. This truth invites us to approach God boldly, knowing we're fully accepted and forgiven. The lesson challenges us to examine how we relate to God - are we striving on our own strength or resting in Christ's finished work?It encourages us to live from a place of victory rather than constantly battling for it, emphasizing that our identity is rooted in Christ's redemption, not our past mistakes or current struggles.Website - https://www.impact.church

When Cheryl Bradshaw appeared on the popular game show The Dating Game in 1978, she was charmed by bachelor number one, Rodney Alcala, and by the end of the episode, she'd chosen him to take her on a date. However, just minutes after the episode finished taping, Cheryl met bachelor number two in person backstage and was immediately uncomfortable and quickly contacted producers of the show to cancel the date. What Bradshaw didn't know at the time was that, in doing so, she had narrowly avoided spending an evening in the company of one of America's most notorious serial killers. At the time of his appearance on The Dating Game in 1978, Alcala was a convicted sexual predator who had served time for sexual assault and had only avoided a charge of attempted murder on a technicality. After his arrest, investigators would learn that, by the time he appeared on the game show, he was also a killer.
