In this powerful exploration of Romans 8, we delve into the transformative concept of 'no condemnation' for those in Christ Jesus. The message from Sarah Esquivel illuminates how Jesus' sacrifice on the cross completely changes our standing before God, freeing us from guilt and shame. We're reminded that God relates to us based on Christ's righteousness, not our own behavior. This truth invites us to approach God boldly, knowing we're fully accepted and forgiven. The lesson challenges us to examine how we relate to God - are we striving on our own strength or resting in Christ's finished work?It encourages us to live from a place of victory rather than constantly battling for it, emphasizing that our identity is rooted in Christ's redemption, not our past mistakes or current struggles.Website - https://www.impact.church

What happens when a high-speed, cyber-savvy Senior Chief finally puts it in park? CTRCS Candace Esquivel joins us fresh off two decades of doing all the things—deploying nonstop, supporting special warfare, shaping policy on the Hill, and holding it down at N17 like it's the Pentagon's group chat. Now she's eyeing retirement and asking the real questions: Do I want a family? Should I adopt? Can I slow down without losing my mind? And why the hell do flowers die so fast? We get into the deep stuff—miscarriage, fertility, career identity—and still find time to roast the Chiefs Mess, crack jokes about uniform shortages, and break news about a raccoon in Ohio caught with a meth pipe. (You read that right.) It's honest, layered, and just the right amount of petty. A love letter to the women holding it all down, and a reminder that you're allowed to walk away even when you're great at what you do. What We Talk About: •Life at N17 and what Sailors don't see behind policy •Deploying every year for 9 straight years •Why she's walking away at 20 years—and what comes next •Fertility fears, freezing eggs, and making space for motherhood •The realities of military pregnancy and miscarriage •Chiefs Mess culture—who's in it, and who's missing •What it means to “complete your mission” and still want more •And yes… a raccoon with a meth pipe in Ohio About CTRCS Candace Esquivel: A Cleveland native and a member of the 9/11 generation, CTRCS Esquivel enlisted in the Navy in 2005. Her career spans deployments aboard the USS BUNKER HILL and USS BOXER, elite service with Naval Special Warfare Development Group, and cyber ops with Joint Cyber Operations Group. A graduate of the Navy and Joint Special Operations Senior Enlisted Academies, she holds a bachelor's in Management Studies and serves as a board member of The Valkyrie Project, championing female service members across the force. In this deeply personal episode, Pastor Benjamin Kandt sits down with Joshua Esquivel to explore his remarkable journey from legalistic religion and inner turmoil to vibrant faith and intimate communion with Jesus. Joshua shares candidly about growing up in a devout Seventh-day Adventist community, wrestling with shame surrounding his same-sex attraction, and the years of isolation, performance, and self-rejection that followed. He recounts his eventual “coming out,” the pain of family rejection, and the years he spent trying to find identity and peace through secular means, including New Age spirituality and relationships.Everything began to change when Joshua prayed a half-sincere, half-desperate prayer surrendering his life to God. What followed was an unexpected and supernatural encounter with the grace of Jesus through Scripture, Reformed theology, and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. He speaks about his conviction of the Bible's truth, his calling to celibacy, and the surprising joy and belonging he's found in the body of Christ—particularly through New City. This is a testimony of gospel hope, identity rooted in Jesus, and the kind of transformation that only God can bring. You can find the resources referenced in this episode here and here.

This episode is extra special because I'm joined by not one, but two humans—my husband Chris and a brand-new little human, our son Rio.Parenting has been a wild and wonderful adventure so far. The highs are higher than we ever imagined, and the challenges are real. But we're embracing it all. No amount of preparation could have predicted just how much we'd fall in love with Rio and with being parents. If you enjoy this episode, please subscribe and leave a review. When Cheryl Bradshaw appeared on the popular game show The Dating Game in 1978, she was charmed by bachelor number one, Rodney Alcala, and by the end of the episode, she'd chosen him to take her on a date. However, just minutes after the episode finished taping, Cheryl met bachelor number two in person backstage and was immediately uncomfortable and quickly contacted producers of the show to cancel the date. What Bradshaw didn't know at the time was that, in doing so, she had narrowly avoided spending an evening in the company of one of America's most notorious serial killers. At the time of his appearance on The Dating Game in 1978, Alcala was a convicted sexual predator who had served time for sexual assault and had only avoided a charge of attempted murder on a technicality. After his arrest, investigators would learn that, by the time he appeared on the game show, he was also a killer. In the year that followed, Alcala would go on to murder several other women until he was finally caught and convicted for his crimes. At his trial, Rodney Alcala was found guilty of eight murders, among other crimes, but he is suspected of several other murders, perhaps as many as one hundred or more.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesAssociated Press. 1980.
