Honestly, we are in such desperate need for a vacation, that this cabin doesn't seem that bad. :)
What is peak horror comedy? One could make the argument that this week's film ascended near the top and became the finest genre spoof of the new century. That's right, we're taking a trip to little ol' place where we can get together… and die for the amusement of the Elder Gods - 2012's THE CABIN IN THE WOODS!! Along the way, we dig into the haunted basement of the film's origins, unpack how the movie explains bad horror movie character archetypes, make out with a moose, and celebrate Johnny Friday or whatever his name was! All this, plus we revisit Count Orlon's time management issues, bloody blowholes, phantom virgins, off brand Cenobites, and the most complicated edition of Choose Your Own Deathventure ever attempted!! So come on in, put up your feet, breathe in the pheromones and intoxicants, and stay awhile - won't you? Listen to Pretty in Podcast's excellent National Lampoon's Class Reunion episode. Lately, I felt this deep pull to get away—not to escape life, but to find something underneath all the noise. So I packed up and took my first solo trip to a cabin that's been in my wife's family for generations, tucked right up against a river. No Wi-Fi. No distractions. Just silence, cold water, firewood, and whatever was waiting for me in the quiet. In this episode, I share what it was like to face my nerves, to find stillness in the middle of fear, and to reconnect with something I didn't know I'd been missing. There's a bald eagle involved. There's a soap-in-the-river moment. There's a whole lot of wrestling with what it means to "find your wild." And maybe, just maybe, an invitation for you to find yours too. Thanks for tuning in to this episode of Clemenz With a Z. If this episode stirred something in you—if you've been feeling the pull toward stillness, space, or your own version of the wild—I hope you'll listen to that. Even if it's just five minutes of quiet today. Start there. Your support keeps these honest conversations going. If you're new here, or if you've been riding with me for a while—thank you. This week on aBlogtoWatchWeekly, Ariel calls in from a cabin in the woods, David ishome in Budapest sipping a hot beverage, Rick is at the farm office, and atired Ripley appears to be at home in L.A. — all reprobate seals clapping in,says Rick. Host-with-the-most Rick takes time to explore each person's space, perhaps to delay what's coming next. To wit, David has found a Morgan-Stanley2023-2024 report comparing watch brands, which reveals that the top 50 brandsdropped production of watches by more that 2 million between 2023 and 2024 — astat that causes some alarm — for everyone but Ariel, whose interpretation isthat some of these brands are playing with the notion of scarcity as amarketing strategy. Interesting.... What do the others think of this notion?Rick is struck by the fact the Zenith produced on 10,000 watches. "Shouldwe only talk about Rolex?" he ponders. The only brand that surprises Arielis Tudor, which dropped production by nearly 40 percent. Since Tudor doesn'tget as much"free marketing" as Rolex, maybe it needs to do more onthe marketing front. While you all bookmark this report to ponder later, theteam moves on to discuss some recent articles, starting with, speak of thedevil, the Tudor Black Bay Ceramic "Visa Blue" Master Chronometer, which Ariel likes because it's not for everyone — a "Swiss middle fingerto Omega," as he puts it. Next up is the Rolex Day-Date 36 with Roman Numerals, which David has afascination with — specifically, the deconstructed Roman numerals. AudemarsPiguet released an all-black ceramic Royal Oak Offshore, consensus about which seems tobe that, while it's not particularly new and creative, it's really pretty watchthat honors the brand name in refinement, if ambitiously priced. March L.A.B's new watch, whose name is toolong for Rick and Ariel to bother with, has more fonts than Rick can count. Theshow concludes with a riff on a Mission to Uranus. You'll have to listen to the show find out what that's about.

Are you ready for “the most terrifying film of all time?” That's the bold claim made by the movie's marketing - about an even bolder take on the Cabin In The Woods genre! And that's before it tweaks the deadite formula resulting in a surprisingly emotional result. So let's crack open that Necronomicon to dive into 2013's EVIL DEAD - the “rebootiquel” that manages to do the impossible: successfully be its own thing. In this episode, we're getting under the skin of the film's characters, the personal dynamics that create real drama amongst the scares, and consider the socio-political overtones that the franchise had skimmed over in the past. All this, plus we talk about one of the worst basements we've ever encountered, debate whether Count Orlock is a Dirty Peanut, hear us get in our feelings over this entry, and then pick the best/worst option in a game of Choose Your Own Deathventure!!
