"Own Your Sunsets" he says. Well, Quinton Blair certainly takes his own advice. He is a local Manitoba country music singer, outfitter, horseback rider, father and storyteller. He didn't grow up on a farm but has found himself exactly where he needs to be; in the thick of the western culture. On the podcast we cover topics such as; Including your kids in your outdoor life. Never wasting a sunset on a life you don't love. New Music "$20 Dollar Bottle" and the writing process. What a healthy mindset for an artist looks like. What it's like travelling down the road. How he pivoted when he couldn't do live concerts (And the solution is so creative and awesome!). It was a pleasure listening to this introspective cowboy as he shared how he is building a life he loves with his people! As many of you know, I like to host back yard shows with some of my favourite local artists, usually in the summer. This episode you're about to hear was intended to take place outside, but then Manitoba got[ hammered with a storm](http://globalnews.ca/news/6022654/manitobans-may-be-in-the-dark-into-sunday-hydro/), so we had a Thanksgiving potluck in the house, with the one and only [Quinton Blair](http://quintonblair.com/) performing two fantastic live sets to a basement crammed full of people. Quinton – backed by Sean Borton of [Foster Martin Band](http://www.fostermartinband.com/) fame – played originals, covers, requests, and even some new tunes. I've always maintained that house shows are the best way to see live music, and this was yet another example of why that's true. Hopefully we can make these potluck/house shows a Thanksgiving tradition. If you dig Quinton's music, why not check out the [recent interview](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/wr396-quinton-blair-377cda13ed2bea/) I did with him for the podcast? This episode brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://www.myparktheatre.com/), and by Manitoba country artist [Brian Jacobs](http://brianjacobsmusic.ca/), whose excellent '[Highways and Backroads](http://[[text](http://)](http://)brianjacobs.bandcamp.com/album/highways-backroads)' record is up for two Manitoba Country Music Association awards!

Honest as a day spent on a tractor, and driven like the drifting Prairie snow. 2018 Manitoba Country Music Association Roots Artist of the Year, Quinton Blair is a road running, tale-spinning songwriter. Silky and smooth like a diesel engine, his beard glistening in the setting sun, its rodeo mud in his teeth and horses in his blood. This episode features a live performance of Quinton Blair’s “Something To Me”. For more local music, check out the Winnipeg Music Project website. Thank you to UMFM 101.5FM. Music by Will and Art from Collector Studio.
Thursday highlights include Kim Heidinger talking about an upcoming event, the Nearly Impossible Question, Music Minute with Quinton Blair and Zhoda water issues with Dez Marynowski.

If this is your first time listening to Witchpolice Radio, turn back now! This isn't a regular interview with a local musician. It's a crossover episode with my friends Stefan and Shena of the brand-new [Thick n' Sweaty](http://thicknsweaty.podbean.com/) podcast, so the regular format is pretty much thrown out the window. We talk podcasting, Stefan's history as a wrestler, as host of the now-defunct [Ever Sick Podcast](http://www.podbean.com/podcast-detail/yua2j-390a6/Ever-Sick%21-Podcast-with-Stefan-Richard) and current gig in country music radio... ...plus how Thick n' Sweaty got started, how Shena became interested in podcasting, their dynamic as a couple who host a show together, etc. If you want to listen to some pals hanging out on a back porch and talking shit, this is an episode for you. If you want the more journalistic style that's typical of the podcast, check out the [previous episode](http://witchpolice.podiant.co/e/377cda13ed2bea/), an interview with country singer Quinton Blair. Apologies for the microphone pops in the intro. This episode is brought to you by [Howl at the Moon](http://http://howlatthemoonfest.com/), Manitoba's newest and most exciting country music festival, July 25-27, and by our pals at [The Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/). [Quinton Blair](http://www.quintonblair.com/) is an award-winning country/folk singer-songwriter, but he's also a fantastic conversationalist – something that is reflected in his personal, localized, storytelling songs. Q hung out on the porch for some live performances and a great chat about songwriting, DIY, his new songs, appealing to a variety of audiences, and much more. Quinton Blair - Manitoba Country Music Association Roots Artist of the Year (2015) - is a self-ordained troubadour, tale-spinner and songwriter. Imagine Steve Earle jamming with Dwight Yoakam, minus the burden of fame. Influenced by the likes of Rodney Crowell and Merle Haggard, his brand of strikingly diverse roots/country music casts a wide loop, and captivates audiences with witty stories and relatable songs. The authenticity of Quinton shines through in the many formats in which he travels. As a solo artist, he relies on his guitar, witty stories, and keen ability to capture the crowd night after night. He is often joined by good friend Bill Western Jr on pedal steel, where the chemistry and musical backbone of this combination lends to an unpredictably charming experience. Through the summer months, Blair is most often seen moving his full honky tonk band back and forth across the prairies. The new EP, Cash Crop, released in April 2016, boasts elements of soul, heartland roots, country, and rock, and features Quinton's signature themes of agricultural, hurt and redemption. Cash Crop was produced by Murray Pulver (former founding member of Doc Walker) and features co-writes by Del Barber, Blake Berglund, and Clayton Bellamy (The Road Hammers).
We kicked off 2016 with a bang at Winnipeg's Handsome Daughter with our second (of what will hopefully be many) live podcast in front of an audience. For our "Holiday Hangover" show Jan. 3, we hung out with ukulele-slinger Erin Shorten, country singer's country singer Quinton Blair and psychedelic organ magician Smoky Tiger. Each of our guests performed three songs and sat down for a conversation! Thanks to the Daughter for having us (again) at their venue, thanks to Garbage Hill Media for making the show happen, and special thanks to Rob and Ted of Loose Fit DJs, who entertained before and after the show proper.

Quinton Blair sings convincing country songs because he legitimately lives the life in rural Manitoba. Quinton talks about performing on the rodeo circuit, western songs vs. mainstream country and more. He's joined by a returning guest (WR093 and WR015), urban cowboy Country Steve. Both fellers perform live and help select “shack” songs.

We had a regular interview episode lined up for this week, but technical difficulties meant the file couldn't be accessed right away, so we put something special together for you in its place. The Witchpolice Mixtape is a collection of all of the live performances on the show dating back to January 2014, in a handy podcast format. It's well over an hour of great, primarily local music! As mentioned in the intro, these were recorded in a number of different environment with different equipment, so recording quality isn't consistent, but performance quality is.
