In this episode we answer emails from El Yama, Graham, and James.  We discuss using risk parity-style portfolios for intermediate term needs, the short-term bond allocation in the Golden Butterfly, accounting for child credit, rising equity glidepaths, the fundamental differences between 100% stock portfolios and diversified portfolios and why you want the latter for retirement unless your goal is to die with the most money, and a CAPE ratio critique from Meb Faber's podcast. And THEN we our go through our weekly portfolio reviews of the eight sample portfolios you can find at Portfolios | Risk Parity Radio.Additional links:Kitces Article re Rising Glidepaths:  The Benefits Of A Rising Equity Glidepath In RetirementKitces/Pfau Paper re Rising Glidepaths:  Reducing Retirement Risk with a Rising Equity Glide-Path by Wade D. Pfau, Michael Kitces :: SSRNMeb Faber Podcast with Brian Jacobs discussing problems with CAPE ratio predictions:  A Century of No Return! The Truth About The Beloved Bonds (Brian Jacobs of Aptus Reveals)Breathless Unedited AI-Bot Summary:"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds," begins this thought-provoking exploration of why most investors are trapped in accumulation-phase thinking even as they approach or enter retirement. The question at the heart of this episode strikes at a surprising disconnect in personal finance: Why do so many investors intellectually understand they're investing to enjoy retirement, yet construct portfolios clearly designed to maximize wealth at death? Through a series of illuminating listener emails, Frank unpacks how portfolios optimized for accumulation often fail spectacularly during the decumulation phase. One listener confesses he "always wondered why anyone would buy bonds when clearly stocks give a far greater return," before discovering through portfolio testing that a 100% equity portfolio would have "failed catastrophically" for someone retiring around 2000-2003.This recognition—that diversification isn't about maximizing returns but enabling sustainable withdrawals—represents the fundamental insight many investors miss until too late. As Frank colorfully puts it, if your goal is to "die with the most money possible" in your "golden coffin," then by all means stick with 90-100% equities. But if you actually intend to enjoy your retirement by spending more than 3% of your portfolio annually, a properly diversified approach becomes essential. The episode also addresses why attempts to use valuation metrics like CAPE ratios to predict market movements have largely failed, and why separating your portfolio into growth and value components offers a more reliable approach to capturing rebalancing bonuses without attempting market timing.Make sure your investment behavior actually matches your stated goals. If you're planning to spend in retirement, construct a portfolio that optimizes for sustainable withdrawals, not maximum theoretical returns.Support the show

The ad industry is by common consent not a great place to be these days. Many within it are unhappy with the state of the industry but are understandably anxious about expressing their views openly.  Driven by a desire to make the ad world a better, more productive, more creatively driven place, Who Cares assembled a community of like-minded professionals who understand what's broken, are collectively smart enough to ideate how to fix the problem and passionate and powerful enough to deliver what needs to be done. In choosing who to date, what job to pursue, or how to invest our money, most people are just looking for a reason to move forward. But according to Professor Ilya Strebulaev, we should be looking for something else: a reason to bail."The smartest venture capitalists ask a very different question from what most of us ask," says Strebulaev. Instead of asking “‘Why should we invest?', venture capitalists approach every new opportunity with [the] question: Why should we not proceed?” This contrarian mindset is at the heart of Strebulaev's new book The Venture Mindset, which reveals how the strategies of top VCs can help anyone make sharper decisions. In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Strebulaev joins host Matt Abrahams to discuss how the venture mindset can help anyone — investor or not — weigh alternatives, make decisions, and move forward without looking back.Episode Reference Links:Ilya Stebilaev: Website Stanford Profile: WebsiteIlya's Book: The Venture Mindset Venture Capital InitiativeArticle Ilya & Alex Dang wrote: 3 Things VCs Do That Can Help You Land Your Dream Job After Getting Laid Off Ilya's co-teacher for his Venture Capital class: Brian Jacobs Ep.41 Speak Like a Founder: How Successful Entrepreneurs Communicate to Their Teams YouTube / Website Ep.56 Lean Messaging: How Simple Messages Really Stick YouTube / WebsiteConnect:Email Questions & Feedback >>> thinkfast@stanford.eduEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn Page, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInStanford GSB >>> LinkedIn & TwitterChapters:(00:00:00) IntroductionHost Matt Abrahams introduces guest Ilya Strebulaev, founder of the GSB's Venture Capital Initiative and professor at Stanford Graduate School of Business.(00:00:53) The Venture MindsetInsights into the venture mindset as a new mental model for making smarter, quicker decisions.(00:02:22) Embracing FailureHow venture capitalists embrace and learn from failure to achieve success.(00:05:21) Decision-Making in Venture CapitalA unique approach to decision making based on what successful venture capitalists do.(00:07:34) Applying Venture Principles in Personal and Professional LifeVenture mindset principles that can help individuals in job transitions and personal growth.(00:10:05) Lessons from Teaching Venture CapitalIlya outlines key takeaways he hopes his students learn from his class, including thinking differently and networking effectively.(00:13:25) Passionate CommunicationUsing descriptive language to engage others, including mixing familiar terms with unique ones to enhance communication about passions(00:15:29) The Final Three QuestionsIlya shares how he has grown from writing his book, a communicator he admires, and three ingredients for successful communication.(00:18:59) ConclusionSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

When entries in providers' Progress Notes don't match standard abbreviations in the medication database, uncoded allergies can arise. Such uncoded allergies will not trigger drug allergy alerts, which can lead to patient safety issues. eClinicalWorks has developed a mapping tool to automatically convert uncoded allergies to coded allergies, helping providers handle them properly. In this edition of the eClinicalWorks Podcast, Chief Medical Information Officer Dr. Brian Jacobs explains what uncoded allergies are, how they arise, and how the EHR is helping doctors eliminate them. From penicillin and sulfa drugs to herbal remedies, vitamins, and everything in between, eClinicalWorks is having the last word — and the last abbreviations! — in patient safety.
