This week on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 11, the queens of Bracket 2 put their instructional skills to the test as they create a series of over-the-top how-to videos. From cooking tutorials to zombie survival guides, the queens attempt to educate the children while fighting for valuable points in the competition. Joe and Taylor break down the challenge, debate the judges' decisions, discuss the increasingly exhausting alliance conversations, and weigh in on a farm-themed runway that delivered everything from hay couture to questionable tractor fashion. Gina Gershon arrives ready to play and earns rave reviews as a guest judge. The hosts discuss whether the challenge format helped or hurt the queens. Alliance talk continues to dominate the workroom conversation. Joe shares strong opinions about washing chicken. April Carrion and Silky Nutmeg Ganache's playful rivalry fizzles before it can become real drama. Aura Mayari's zombie-themed tutorial leaves the hosts unconvinced. Crystal Methyd channels absurdist comedy in one of the episode's strongest performances. Selena EsTitties and Silky's videos spark a conversation about stereotypes and comedy. The hosts break down every look from the "Barned This Way" runway. Debate over whether the judges picked the correct Top 2 queens. Joe and Taylor disagree with the lip sync outcome. An unexpected tangent about banana splits, Wiener Schnitzel, and childhood dessert memories. April Carrion serves high-fashion hay couture. Aura Mayari transforms into a glamorous barn owl. Crystal Methyd delivers another delightfully bizarre presentation. Silky Nutmeg Ganache brings the dairy farm to the runway. Vivacious attempts tractor-inspired club kid couture. With alliances and point distribution continuing to dominate the narrative, Joe and Taylor find themselves wishing for more organic drama and character development. Still, strong guest judging from Gina Gershon, a few memorable challenge performances, and a surprisingly effective lip sync keep the episode moving as the season heads toward its merge. Dave's been throwing parties. Three in four days. Confirmation sponsor for a friend's son, family and friends over the next night, and then — because the universe has a sense of humor — some local gentleman decided to remodel Dave's brick mailbox. With his truck. At speed. Bricks were found over a hundred feet away. The guy left his license plate behind, which Dave is now holding like a man who accidentally picked up evidence and doesn't know what to do with it. The driver's fine. Well — he's in jail. But he's alive. Dave wants him to know that God's mercy is always ready and present, even for the man who turned a brand-new brick mailbox into gravel.Meanwhile, Adam got a new plum tree. Planted a maple. He's getting oaks for the pig pen so they'll drop acorns someday. One of his chickens died in a water barrel trap that nobody designed on purpose — the lid flipped, the chicken couldn't get out. Farm life. And then the real news: baby Mary is doing better. Haylee got to hold her. Adam held her for over three hours — only his second time since she was born in February. Three months of NICU, and the man finally got to just sit with his daughter. Praise God. Keep those prayers coming. Also — Adam's turning 40 on June 2nd. And Lady Pamela is due with their next baby on June 4th. They floated the idea of recording an episode in the delivery room. Pamela has not been consulted. This week we're sipping 13th Colony Distilleries Southern Rye Whiskey, French Oak Finish, Small Batch — 47.5% ABV. Platinum award-winning. Silky texture with hints of rye, apricot, and brown sugar. The rye's there but it doesn't overpower — still has a lot of bourbon elements to it. About forty bucks. That's a great buy. Then the conversation turns to something Adam's son Jude sparked. Jude — Adam's second oldest — just finished reading the entire Bible, Genesis through Revelation, straight through. Now he's reading the Council of Trent Catechism. He's a kid. Nobody told him to do this. He just had good books lying around the house and picked them up. That's the whole point. The virtue of study — studiositas — isn't what school taught us it was. It's not cramming. It's not memorizing facts to dump after the test. Aquinas calls it a habit of the mind ordered towards truth. Classical education at its best doesn't fill your head — it forms the way you think. The more you read rightly, the more you can arrive at correct conclusions through a sound process, not just recall. Study leads to contemplation. Contemplation is rest in truth. And it's not about finishing the book. If you're reading to check the box, you've already lost the plot. Sit with it. Let yourself be carried. The intellectual life doesn't compete with the family — it serves the family. From there, Adam and Dave go back and forth on the books that actually formed them. Adam leads with Joseph Pieper's In Tune with the World — a short, devastating argument for why festivity dies when we strip the divine out of celebration. Dave counters with The Soul of the Apostolate — the book that reordered his understanding of what has to come first before any ministry means anything. Adam brings John Senior's The Restoration of Christian Culture — hard opinions, harder truths, and a quote worth sitting with: the virtue of study requires a canon, a body of great works proven across time. Without tradition to guide what's worth studying, you're just chasing novelty.Dave goes deep on Fr. Timothy Gallagher's The Discernment of Spirits — a practical walkthrough of St. Ignatius's rules that shed light on the stages of the spiritual life and how the enemy shifts tactics as you grow. Adam responds with Raymond Arroyo's biography of Mother Angelica — a story of suffering, faithfulness, and a woman who said yes without knowing where it would lead. Dave makes a case for the Psalms — Psalm 51, the De Profundis in Latin, and the realization that there's a psalm for every moment of a man's life, and he'd been skimming past them for years.Adam goes deep cut: Fr. Paul Murray's Aquinas at Prayer — a book that reoriented his understanding of St. Thomas from pure intellect to contemplative soul. Dave brings Divine Mercy in My Soul by St. Faustina — hundreds of pages of our Lord's words on mercy that are sometimes scandalously generous. Adam throws in Simon Sinek's Start with Why as the non-Catholic book that changed how he thought about business, marriage, and fatherhood. Both men land on fiction that haunts them — Adam with Sigrid Undset's Kristin Lavransdatter, Dave with Candice Millard's Hero of the Empire on young Churchill. They touch on Lencioni's Five Dysfunctions of a Team, Gone with the Wind, the bishop chapters of Les Misérables, Neil Postman's Amusing Ourselves to Death, and close with John Senior's Thousand Good Books — the canon itself, the list that connects it all. They end where they always end: with Plato. They're halfway through the Republic in their great books group. David sits on the dumb couch. He knows he sits on the dumb couch. He's fine with it.Raise your glass.TOPICS COVEREDDave's brick mailbox obliterated by a truck — bricks found 100 feet away, driver in jail, license plate left behindThree parties in four days at Porter Prairie: confirmation, family gathering, and involuntary demolitionDave building a grain cradle for his scythe for the upcoming grain harvestAdam's new plum tree, maple tree, and oak trees planned for the pig penThe chicken that died in a water barrel trap nobody designed on purposeBaby Mary update — doing better, Adam held her for three hours, Haylee held her tooAdam turning 40 on June 2nd and Lady Pamela due June 4thBourbon of the week: 13th Colony Distilleries Southern Rye Whiskey, French Oak Finish, 47.5% ABVJude Minihan reading the entire Bible and now the Council of Trent Catechism — and nobody told him toWhy having good books lying around the house matters more than assigned readingThe virtue of studiositas — Aquinas on study as a habit of the mind ordered towards truthStudy isn't cramming — it's forming the way we think, not filling our headsWhy finishing the book isn't the point — sit with it, let yourself be carriedThe intellectual life doesn't compete with family — it serves the familyJoseph Pieper's In Tune with the World — why festivity dies without the divineThe Soul of the Apostolate — what has to come first before any ministry mattersJohn Senior's The Restoration of Christian Culture — hard opinions and the necessity of a canonFr. Tonight, we are tasting and learning about the hybrid wine grape Baco Noir. This is a French Hybrid wine grape. Baco Noir is an easy-to-grow grape that produces a medium to full-bodied wine with fresh acidity and dark fruit flavors hinting of black pepper and tobacco. Wines made of Baco Noir can also have notes of licorice, cedar, and smoke. Normally it will have medium tannins.Pairs with tomato-based dishes. Also pairs well with sharp cheddars, pecorino, or Parmigiano Reggiano.Tonight, we are enjoying:2020 Heron Hill Vineyards Baco Noir Reserve. This is from the Finger Lakes region of New York, specifically the vineyard is located on the western slope of Keuka Lake. I purchased it from Wine Styles in West Des Moines for approximately $25. Aromas of plum, black cherry, and dried blueberry. Medium to full-bodied. 13.9% alcohol, pH of 3.55, and 0% residual sugar. It is aged for 10 months in neutral French oak, and has medium-to-full body. The winery says this wine is great to be cellared for up to 15 years. 2023 Chloe, Monterey County Pinot Noir. Notes of strawberry and black cherry. This is around a $15 bottle of wine and can be found at many of the major retail stores. Subtle hints of clove and vanilla. Silky mouthfeel and soft finish. 14.0% alcohol. Neither of us cared for the Chloe Pinot Noir and both scored it a 2. We finished our glass but would not purchase this wine again. We both enjoyed the Heron Hill Winery Baco Noir. I gave it a 4 and Denise scored it a 3. I agree with Denise that it is not the most complex wine, but I just loved the easy and pleasing aroma and taste. It is very fruit forward with flavors of plum and blueberry. I got some earthiness and spice on the nose, but flavor is mostly over-powered by the fruit.Next week, we are having Denise's show, a wine she picked because of it's pretty label. It is the Oak Farm Vineyards 2022 Albarino.

Send us a textA dream trail broke his knees and changed his life—Steve Evans went from hauling “light” heavy gear to engineering tools that feel like cheating on a portage. We bring you the origin story of Suluk 46, where a licensed mechanical engineer applies stress analysis and real-world testing to build ultralight, ultra-strong equipment that actually earns its place in your pack. From a titanium-and-carbon ice axe born for Nepal, to award-winning tent stakes, to a folding saw that weighs like a candy bar, Steve shows how obsession, iteration, and field time create gear that lasts. We explore the design logic behind two very different saw families—an ultralight buck saw and slim folding pull saws built around Silky blades—plus the realities of supply, custom blade development in Sweden, and choosing performance without extra grams. You'll hear the surprisingly relatable story of a packable grill that snaps together at camp and disappears into a small tube when you hike out, solving the “gross site grate” problem without adding bulk. We also dig into the market divide between canoe trippers and ultralight hikers, why product choices shift with terrain and portages, and how to think about comfort versus weight when you're planning multi-day routes.Looking ahead, Steve teases a carbon fibre, refillable fuel canister with a titanium valve assembly—a TSSA-informed answer to disposable isobutane canisters that could save weight, reduce waste, and make fuel management smarter on long trips. Along the way, we talk about building a small, family-powered company, launching products at Canadian outdoor shows, and redefining success around time outside, not just scale. If you care about backpacking gear, canoe tripping essentials, and thoughtful design that starts on the trail and ends at your workbench, this conversation will spark ideas for your next kit rebuild.Enjoyed the episode? Today I have the honor of speaking with longtime activist Silky Shah, Executive Director of the Detention Watch Network, about her new, and extremely important book, Unbuild Walls: Why Immigrant Justice Needs Abolition. Shah provides a critical discussion about the intersection between detention, the prison industrial complex, and anti-immigrant racism. She explains how this relationship is hardly new, but stretches back at least to the Reagan presidency and through Clinton, Bush, Obama, and Biden.  Given the durability of this connection, Shah makes an altogether convincing case that reform does not work, and that abolition is called for. Her book and her activism give us inspirating examples of such work in the past and present, and for the future.Silky Shah is the Executive Director of Detention Watch Network, a national coalition building power to abolish immigration detention in the United States. She has worked as an organizer on issues related to immigration detention, the prison industrial complex, and racial and migrant justice for nearly 20 years.

Tonight, we are blind-tasting three Pinot Noir wines. All three wines are from the United States, but are priced very differently.Pinot Noir is a medium-bodied, high-acid, fruit-forward wine.Pinot Noir from Oregon is typically more in the Burgundian Style. California Pinot characteristically has a little greater ripeness and spice. Here are our three wines for tonight.Tonight, we are enjoying:2021 Firesteed Pinot Noir. This wine comes from Oregon and was purchased at Costco for $9.99, but I see it online for closer to $13. Reverse Wine Snob says it has aromas of black cherry, baking spice, touches of cranberry. The grapes are sourced from around the state of Oregon. Aging took place in a combination of small French oak barrels and larger stainless-steel tanks. Approximately 15% new French oak. The winemaker says it has red fruits, earthy notes, and toast. Silky tannins complement the long lingering finish of spice, vanilla, and French oak. 2022 Stoller Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley, Oregon. This was purchased from Wall to Wall Wine for $23.99. 3.59 pH. No more than 15% in oak. This wine gets an 89 rating from the Wine Enthusiast. It says a dusty black cherry aroma dominates faint traces of earthy oregano and citrus. Invigorating acidity overshadows silky tannins. Blackberry and walnut flavors joined by a note of dark chocolate, green tea and lemon. 90 from Vinous.2022 Three Sticks Pinot Noir. I purchased this from the winery for $75. All of the wine goes through malolactic fermentation and is aged in 100% French oak (44% new) for 15 months. The wine has a pH of 3.4.We both gave all three wines a thumbs up. Denise gave the Three Sticks Pinot Noir a 5 rating, but still enjoyed the other two. I actually liked the Stoller the best, but gave a 4 rating to both the Stoller and the Three Sticks. It really depends on your preference in wine. The Three Sticks is much heavier oaked, spicy, and with darker fruit flavors. The Stoller is the complete opposite being very subdued and very balanced. Next week, we will be exploring more hybrid wines.
