With the countdown on until the release of Inertia's latest EP Memoria on March 18, the band are ramping things up a little with the release of the second EP single Arisaka, which follows on from Hivemind earlier last month.Inertia have produced a collection of material on Memoria that showcases a different musical psyche for the band, with vocalist Julian Latouche and guitarist Mark Williamson joining HEAVY to chat about the new music."Hivemind was the first song that we wrote off the EP,” Williamson began. “It was written amongst the pandemic when it first hit and we were kind of at home wondering what to do. Live shows were gone so we knew we had to switch it up a little bit and try and attack things in a different angle so` we decided to experiment a little bit. we went a little bit harder on the synthesiser work and we wanted to hone in on what Inertia sounded like and how far we can push the envelope while still having the Inertia name behind us. I think we've done a good job in introducing some new elements while keeping the same heavy musicality while rocking the R & B vocals.”In the full interview the boys talk more about Hivemind, run us through the songs on Memoria and their meaning, signing with Resist Records and what that means for the band, upcoming shows and more.

Having recently signed to Resist Records, Melbourne-based metal outfit Pridelands are making up for lost time with the recent release of their latest single Heavy Tongue.Written about a horrific period of Australia's recent history and based around the bushfires that ravaged parts f the country, Heavy Tongue takes aim at the government and politicians who failed to provide adequate and suitable relief.Drummer Joe Lipsham sat down with HEAVY earlier this week to talk about the single."We recorded it during the bushfires in 2019, 2020," he began, "and I guess we took a lot of inspiration from the neglect the government had and their cause of action so that's what inspired the song lyrically and probably musically as well. It's got a fast pace and it's really angry."While the people of the affected areas were the ones who suffered - and in most cases still suffer to this day - it is the lack of response before, during, and after the bushfires that Pridelads take particular aim at."The anger is more toward the people in power," Lipsham affirmed. "When we recorded it we were in Tathra and the year before the bushfires Tathra had a very similar situation. The whole town just got smoked and it was at a level where there wasn't enough response from the people in power and then coincidently a year later the exact same thing happened on a much bigger basis with obviously a lot of Australia going up and the lack of immediate response from the government is something that still angers a lot of people and is something that struck a nerve with not only us but the people around us. We saw a lot of people go through a lot of stress because of it and it was something we resonated with and felt we needed to write about."In the full interview Joe talks more about the fires and their lingering effect, Pridelands upcoming Melbourne show to launch the single, their recent largely sold-out tour and getting back on stage after so long, signing with Resist Records and more.

Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall

Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 15, 2018 121:12

We are celebrating 50 Episodes of Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall with a Very Special Parkway Drive dedicated show featuring the band's legendary frontman Mr Winston McCall who is on co-host duties chatting all about the band's new #1 album Reverence and their upcoming tour with Killswitch Engage and Thy Art is Murder. Since the band formed in 2003, they've released six incredibly mesmerising albums, each release outdoing the last in terms of style, ferociousness and progression, however, when you accumulate a fanbase who are too hellbent on living in the past, you constantly find yourself having to defend your motives and actions when changing up styles as the years go by and Winston isn't afraid to address the backlash and resentment targetted towards him and the Parkway boys in his chat with podcast host Browny. The conversation also leads to why they have never brought their European shows to Australia (considering they formed here in Byron Bay) and what it's like having Killswitch opening for them now, years after their guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz perduced their first two releases. We've also got two very special guests joining in the conversation including Graham Nixon, the band's Manager and head honcho of Resist Records, who signed them wayyy back in the day. He talks about their early years, how he discovered them and shares a few stories along the way + Dan McMaster, frontman for the now defunct pop punk act Skyway also chats about how they managed to get Winston McCall to do guest vocals on one of their songs and what it was like working with him in the studio and on the stage at one of the shows both bands played. Plus we travel through the band's extensive back catalogue of albums, kicking things off with 2005's Killing with a Smile, then stopping by Horizons (2007), Deep Blue (2010), Atlas (2012) and Ire (2015), all the way through to their 2018 release Reverence. There's also a few surprises along the way too, so strap yourself in for one of the most extensive Parkway Drive podcasts available, coming in at just over two hours, we guarantee you'll love every minute of it.
