South Africa's Phindile Ndlovu on 'great honour' of featuring in Lion King musical in Paris

As one of the most renowned and well-loved musicals, auditioning for "The Lion King" seemed somewhat out of reach for Phindile Ndlovu. "I thought 'maybe it's too big for me, maybe they won't take me'," she tells FRANCE 24. Ultimately, though, the South African native went on to play Rafiki — the shaman of the Pride Lands — in both the Spanish and French versions of the production. "I think I'm the only person in my family who actually got to be an artist and go outside of South Africa," she says. The musical is now playing at the Mogador Theatre in Paris, and Ndlovu says she is adapting well to French life: "I love the country, I'm loving the people, obviously." She says what makes "The Lion King" special is its broad appeal, promising to "captivate" audiences of all ages.

This week's workout is all about pacing, form under fatigue, and dialing in your endurance one rung at a time. We kick things off with a smooth 200 at Zone 2, just to get things flowing. From there, we sharpen technique with some 6/1/6 drills and one-eyed breathing to help you stay long and balanced in the water. Session tip: As the intervals get shorter and your rest gets more generous, resist the urge to get sloppy. Hold that form, stay efficient, and finish as strong as you started. Swim ladders are sneaky good—they build aerobic strength while training your brain to stay focused when fatigue sets in. Climb smart, descend sharper.       Fun Segment: Triathlon Would You Rather – Disney Edition! “Okay folks, it's time for a magical twist on our favorite game—Triathlon Would You Rather: Disney Edition! And remember, there are no wrong answers—just magical ones. Share your choices with us on Instagram, Facebook, or tag a Disney-obsessed training partner who needs to hear this!” "All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them."  – Walt Disney   Closing: Before we close, I want to wish you (April) good luck at tomorrow's “The Bear” MTB race by Rattler Racing. Robert Winfree and Mark Radulich present their Mufasa The Lion King 2024 Movie Review!Mufasa: The Lion King is a 2024 American musical drama film directed by Barry Jenkins from a screenplay written by Jeff Nathanson. Produced by Walt Disney Pictures, the film is photorealistically animated and serves as both a prequel and sequel to The Lion King (2019), the remake of the 1994 animated film of the same name. Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, and John Kani reprise their roles from the remake; new cast members include Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Anika Noni Rose, and Blue Ivy Carter in her feature film debut.Development on a prequel to The Lion King was confirmed in September 2020, with Jenkins attached to direct and Nathanson finishing a draft of the script. Pierre and Harrison were announced as the voice cast in August 2021, followed by further casting between September 2022 and April 2024. The film was officially announced when its official title was revealed in September 2022 at the 2022 D23 Expo announcement. Production on the film slowed down in July 2023 due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. The film is dedicated to James Earl Jones, who voiced Mufasa in the 1994 film and the remake, died before the film's release, and whose voice is heard briefly during the opening titles.Mufasa: The Lion King premiered on December 9, 2024, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and was released in the United States by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on December 20, 2024. The film received mixed reviews from critics and has grossed $328 million.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

In a double-sized portion of Fan Effect, producer KellieAnn Halvorsen is joined by fellow movie lover Kate Francis to discuss the latest Disney prequel, “Mufasa: The Lion King.” With family-friendly themes, new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and improved computer graphics imagery (seriously better than the 2019 remake), the story follows Mufasa’s journey from orphan cub to the Pride Lands’ favorite king. The film honors the original 1994 animated neoclassic “The Lion King” while continuing to explore themes of courage, overcoming adversity, family dynamics, and the power we all have to choose positivity. While the movie isn’t perfect, it is definitely going to be a win for the Disney box office.  The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisodes taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics.  Based in the beautiful beehive state, Fan Effect celebrates Utah's unique fan culture as it has been declared The Nerdiest State in America by TIME, and is hosted by KSL Movie Show's Andy Farnsworth and KSL Podcasts' KellieAnn Halvorsen.  Fan Effect is sponsored by Megaplex Theatres, Utah's premiere movie entertainment company.

Wassail Wassail Wassail! Christmas is almost upon us, and we've got a gift of a guest for you this week: Barry Jenkins, AKA Mr. Moonlight. He chats to Simon about ‘Mufasa', the origin story for Simba's father and the long-awaited prequel to 2016's live action animation Lion King. When a flood washes the cub-Mufasa away from his homeland and parents, he finds himself an outsider in an altogether new territory—where he stumbles across young lion Taka and begins a life-changing new journey to becoming the King of the Pride Lands we all know and love. Simon asks the Oscar winning indie director how he ended up helming this huge Disney musical, and what he's learned from the four-year journey to its release. We'll hear Mark's take on ‘Mufasa' too, along with reviews of two more animation releases this week. We've got ‘Sonic 3', where the speedy blue hedgehog and friends face new adversary Shadow—and Aardman's Christmas gift to us all, the new Wallace & Gromit adventure ‘Vengeance Most Fowl'. You can hear Mark and Simon in conversation with co-directors Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham in last week's episode, recorded live at our Christmas Spectacular. Plus one more review of ‘Alien Onstage'—a gloriously oddball documentary about a group of Dorset bus drivers creating a theatrical version of the 1979 sci-fi film classic. Academy Award winner Barry Jenkins ("Moonlight") directs, and while we're looking all over for his artistic stamp, we're sadly not finding it. In theaters this weekend. Then, our great friend Tim Grierson helps out with an early review of "A Complete Unknown," James Mangold's Bob Dylan biopic. Timothée Chalamet is tremendous as the iconic folk singer, and he'll surely be in the conversation for the best-actor Oscar. In theaters Christmas Day. And speaking of the holiday, we wanted to share the audio from our annual Christmas Movie Livestream with the expert himself. This is always a great time, and Alonso loves answering your questions and hearing your thoughts about his favorite topic. Thanks to all the lovely folks who joined us live. The animated film "The Lion King" (1994) tells the story of a young lion named Simba, who is preparing to become the king of the African savanna. Сюжет начинается с рождения Симбы, сына короля Муфасы и королевы Сараби. The plot begins with the birth of Simba, the son of King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi. Муфаса учит Симбу о круге жизни и обязанностях короля. Mufasa teaches Simba about the circle of life and the responsibilities of being a king. Однако, дядя Симбы, Шрам, завидует Муфасе и планирует захватить трон. However, Simba's uncle, Scar, is jealous of Mufasa and plans to seize the throne. Шрам устраивает ловушку, в результате которой Муфаса погибает, спасая Симбу. Scar sets a trap, resulting in Mufasa's death while saving Simba. Шрам убеждает Симбу, что он виновен в смерти отца, и Симба убегает из королевства. Scar convinces Simba that he is responsible for his father's death, and Simba flees the kingdom. Симба встречает Тимона и Пумбу, суриката и бородавочника, которые становятся его друзьями и учат его философии "Хакуна Матата" (беззаботная жизнь). Simba meets Timon and Pumbaa, a meerkat and a warthog, who become his friends and teach him the philosophy of "Hakuna Matata" (no worries). Симба вырастает вдали от своих обязанностей, но однажды встречает свою подругу детства Налу, которая убеждает его вернуться и спасти королевство от тирании Шрама. Simba grows up away from his responsibilities, but one day he meets his childhood friend Nala, who convinces him to return and save the kingdom from Scar's tyranny. Симба возвращается в Прайд-Ленд и сталкивается с Шрамом. Simba returns to the Pride Lands and confronts Scar. В битве за трон, Симба побеждает Шрама, который в конечном итоге погибает. In the battle for the throne, Simba defeats Scar, who ultimately dies. Симба становится новым королем и восстанавливает мир и гармонию в королевстве. Simba becomes the new king and restores peace and harmony to the kingdom. Мультфильм заканчивается тем, что Симба и Нала представляют своего новорожденного львенка животным королевства, продолжая круг жизни. The film ends with Simba and Nala presenting their newborn cub to the animals of the kingdom, continuing the circle of life. *** Slow Russian Podcast Transcript and audio download for $20 – https://russian.fromzerotofluency.com/courses/slowrussian  Join my free email course with A LOT of useful materials for self-learning – http://realrussianclub.com/subscribe  My premium step-by-step course for Russian language learners – https://russian.fromzerotofluency.com/ Get all three levels together and save $102 – https://russian.fromzerotofluency.com/bundles/all-of-from-zero-to-fluency  UNDERSTANDING RUSSIA (new cultural course, no knowledge of Russian language required)–  https://russian.fromzerotofluency.com/courses/understanding-russia

After soaring over Agrabah and beyond, film journalist Ben Travis and animation academic Sam Summers make the pilgrimage to Pride Rock to pay tribute to Disney's regal Shakespeare spin: 1994's The Lion King. And they're joined by Simba super-fan Amon Warmann, for a bumper-sized discussion of the biggest Disney film yet. Together, they explore how the film accidentally stumbled into its Hamlet homage, how it rose from being one of the studio's less-prestigious projects into a box office behemoth, and solve the ultimate question: is ‘Be Prepared' a good karaoke song or not? Plus, Ben is thrilled by an alternate universe where a very different pop giant wrote the songs, Sam breaks down the dubious politics of the Pride Lands, Amon rhapsodises about Hans Zimmer's score, and all three are mind-boggled by the bizarre lore of The Lion Guard. The Circle Of Life begins when you press play… Next up: Pocahontas Disniversity is brought to you by Ben Travis (@benstravis) and Sam Summers (@samsummers0), with art by Olly Gibbs and music by Nafets. Follow us on Twitter and Instagram at @disniversity. This podcast is not affiliated with Disney. — Welcome to Disniversity, the podcast crash course through the history of Disney's animated classics, with film journalist Ben Travis and animation academic Dr. Sam Summers. Each week, we'll be moving forward in time through the legendary Walt Disney Animation Studios catalogue, watching every feature film in chronological order – from Snow White to Strange World. Watch along with us, and listen as we explore each film's historical context, advances in animation and lasting legacy, and talk about how they stand up today.

The trio talk about the many great aspects of the film including: the breathtaking Pride Lands; the voice-casting of the characters; the epic soundtrack of the film; whether Scar is truly one of the most underrated villains in Disney history; the trauma kids endured thanks to Mufasa's death; Timon and Pumbaa: the greatest friends a lion could have; the importance of Nala; the lack of finishing the job by Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed; the memorable hero's journey that Simba takes, and if the combination of this film, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast is the greatest 3-film stretch in Disney history. So grab your grubs, kick back in the shade, and leave your worries behind as Steve, Mirandia, and Andy continue their trek through the Disney Renaissance. Hakuna Matata!

Rows upon rows of lush, fragrant trees as far as the eye can see. Once upon a time, a man named Walt Disney walked through this very grove and admired the sunlight peeking through the branches, the bright-floral scent, the sprawling vastness of it all… He walked, and he admired, and he imagined what it could be. But instead of seeing the forest for the trees, he saw a castle with gleaming spires. He saw snow-capped mountains, tropical hideaways, and winding rivers. He envisioned a place that would preserve the tangible beauty of the natural world, intertwined with the fantasy, hope and adventure of a fairytale come to vivid life. He began to sketch in his mind's eye a place where dreamers of all ages could find light in the darkness, joy in the journey, and Magic in every moment.  And so Disneyland was realized from that place of pause. From a quiet moment of reflection came generations of  incomprehensible joy, laughter, memories, and inspiration.  Today, we celebrate that unlikely beginning, and the timeless narrative that is still being written Here inside this living storybook. We come together beneath the stars to swim through oceans and fly off to Neverland, to travel across the Pridelands and sail across frozen fjords in search of the incomparable feeling of joyful nostalgia. Disneyland is a haven for the childlike spirit, a place to feel carefree when the strains of the world are heavy. It is a place to find Walt's promise evermore fulfilled - that all who come to this happy place will find Magic in abundance.  And on this Magic night, as a spell of glimmering, shimmering light and color dances across the sky, we are reminded of that humble orange grove. We call to mind for a moment the unforgettable person who walked between the trees that once stood in this very space, and imagined something that would be forever known to generations of dreamers as Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth. Be Here, and step into the Magic.

For over five decades, it has been so much more than a vacation destination, but has become a living storybook wherein we find ourselves at the center of the tale.  Inside every chapter is an epic journey portending to unfold. On every page we find an invitation embossed with each of our names, inviting us to chart a course for adventure. A magic carpet ride, perhaps, or aboard a pirate ship bound for Neverland…oh, the wondrous places we'll go!  All around us, we encounter intricacy and intentionality in every moment - a testament to the innovative minds who have brought these stories to life, spurred on by their sovereign ethos that it's kind of fun to create the impossible. Here, the philosophy is this: that the only thing standing in the way of your dreams becoming your reality is your own imagination.  Today, we invite you to set that imagination free and come along with us as we carry our dreams to new heights. Climb aboard your very own chariot in the clouds and be Here With the Magic - we're taking to the skies and setting sail aboard the Disney Skyliner! Rising high above the waterways and pavilions of EPCOT's World Showcase, our journey begins with a peek into the romantic courtyards and elegant gardens of beautiful France. Soaring over the world-renowned Gusteau's, we can almost smell the fluffy, sugar-dusted crêpes and nutty fromage wafting from Chef Remy's kitchen.  Up, up, and away we go, waving a wistful “Au Revoir” to charming Paris. After a quick little jaunt above the pastel whimsy and swinging ragtime of the Boardwalk, we find ourselves at once in the heart of Walt Disney World. From way up Here, we can spot the temples and clocktowers of World Showcase gliding past alongside our gondola, a curious collection of international treasures reaching toward the heavens. The geodesic shell of Spaceship Earth glints in the bright sunlight, striking and futuristic against its more historic counterparts at EPCOT Center.  (7:05) In the distance, a majestic kingdom looms larger and larger as we approach, stunning and regal against a brilliant blue sky. Disney's Riviera Resort, a celebration of the azure coasts of Italy and the opulence of the South of France, this European seaside retreat is a feast for the senses and a joy to discover.  Lavish with luxury and an escape into our most rose-colored wanderlust daydreams, the sparkling lagoon and wrought-iron balconies that surround this place are breathtaking to behold. And although we're just passing through, our excitement for what other wonders we might encounter as we continue on our journey blooms with every second.   (8:47) Onward we sail, ascending skyward once again. This time, we're trading in the opulence of the Riviera for the laid-back vibes of the Caribbean. Nestled in a lush, tropical wilderness and bordered by silken, white-sand beaches, the quaint island hideaway of Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort burst with vibrant color and vivid life.  Here, each charming village is enrobed in shades of turquoise and aquamarine, coral and sunshine yellow. The steel drum sounds of the tropics and the easy, breezy atmosphere seem to enliven our spirit even as we drift above - a quiet moment of joy above the sweet serenity of our own Caribbean oasis.  While we could happily prolong this island interlude, our Skyliner convoy has landed in the Hub, where we are promptly whisked away once again to new, fantastic points of view. This time, we're headed along Hourglass Lake on a grand circle tour of some larger-than-life childhood memories to inspire nostalgia for all ages.  (10:31) At Disney's Pop Century Resort, the sock hops and Walkmans which brought music and laughter to each distinctive decade are preserved in a living time capsule. An escape to a simpler time, the retro feel and novelty shapes and colors make this an unforgettable place to discover. Every moment Here exudes reminiscence and fun; a chance to experience the joys of generations and find Magic in the fabric of our yesterdays.  And as we sail through time, back to yesteryear, we find our gaze wandering across the lake to Disney's Art of Animation Resort. Here, we find concept art and sketches from some of our favorite Disney stories practically springing off the page. From the Pridelands and Route 66 to a plunge Fathoms Below into the Big, Blue World of Nemo, Ariel, and all those beloved Under the Sea friends, this is a place that captivates the young and the young at heart, bringing fairytales and adventures to life in truly spectacular ways. Humming a Hakuna Matata tune all the way, we bid a fond farewell to our redolent memories and allow our escort to return us to the hustle and bustle of the Skyliner terminal, but only for a moment. Once again we careen into the clouds aboard our airborne carriage, this time heading for all the glitz and glamour of Tinseltown and the gleaming black spires of Galaxy's Edge.  (17:00) Away we go, into the blissful blue and off toward the marquees and marvels of the golden age of Hollywood.  Sound stages scattered across film lots and the ornate exterior of the incomparable Chinese Theater are visible just ahead, and the shadowy outline of the Hollywood Tower Hotel looms at the end of Sunset Boulevard, intriguing and foreboding in equal measure. Although our excursion into this bustling young movie town is a brief and round trip affair, the exhilarating energy of this place is palpable even from the sky. A glimpse into the Hollywoodland of Walt's early career, there is joy and anticipation wrapped in each and every moment.  (22:05) Still, we've got one final leg of our journey to complete, and our cortège is already gliding back into the station once again before we are revived from our Golden State reverie. Soon we find ourselves yet again greeted by the postcard panorama of the Riviera, picturesque and perfect as we left it before.  Before we know it, the tapered zenith of the Tour de Eiffel is growing larger as we descend into the International Gateway, bringing our Skyliner journey at an end at last. Where we'll go from Here, well, that's a story that is still unwritten. Whether we soar through the skies or sail along crystalline waters or let our own two feet lead the way, there is unlimited Magic for those willing to make the journey. Each step is one in the right direction where imagination is our guide and joy is our companion.  It is the journey, after all, and not the destination, which fill the pages of the most magnificent stories. From tales of travel to faraway lands to gambles down rabbit holes and into the wonderland of our cherished memories, it is that first spark of inspiration which leads us down new paths, intuition mingling with curiosity and leading us into a world of Magic that we can return to time and time again.  It is the journey that evokes the most powerful memories. Being Here, surrounded in the skies by invigorating joy, we feel emboldened to say yes to new adventures, to keep moving forward. Onward, ever onward, we know that each and every moment will be filled with wonder, with sights and sounds and stories to lift us up when we feel low, and with Magic to bring us to our happiest places whenever we summon the spirit of our imagination and take to the skies.
