Interview by Kris PetersAussie punk legends Frenzal Rhomb are the gift that keeps on giving. Just like the Energiser Bunny, the guys seem to just keep on trucking where others half their age would have put up the white flag.Following the near-completed 25 (ish) Anniversary Tour for A Man's Not A Camel, Frenzal have also been invited to fly the flag for the naughty kids left in our generation to play at two of this country's biggest and best music festivals. First, they head to the Northern Territory in September to take their place at Blacken 2025 before getting in some well-deserved R & R leading up to the double header of Froth & Fury shows early next year in Perth on January 24 and Adelaide on January 31.Not bad for a band who were playing other great festivals such as Livid around the turn of the century! While their music has an irresistibly infectious charm to it, there's no doubting much of Frenzal Rhomb's staying power is down to their laconic sense of humour and general no fucks given attitude in the face of adversity. Throughout their career, they have offended everyone from radio hosts to television hosts to croupiers at the casino, but, more importantly than that, they have gotten away with it. Which I guess isn't that hard to do when you are able to brush things off with a strum of the guitar and a flash of attitude and move on.That's not to say Frenzal Rhomb are snotty-nosed and disrespectful - although they have more than enough of those attributes to go around - but when you realise that it is possible to have and voice an opinion without being a wanker about it, then the world suddenly opens up, and the walls move out a little.Which is all a long-winded way of saying that Frenzal Rhomb are Australian punk walking dinosaurs for the simple reason that they only take things seriously that are meant to be taken that way and subscribe to the theory that when all else fails play some music and have a laugh and maybe things will turn out not quite as bad as you thought they might be.Which is possibly why they are still welcome at otherwise metal-only gatherings to shoot the shit and play some tunes.HEAVY recently caught up with the man with the flowing locks and the voice of Frenzal Rhomb, Jason Whalley, to talk about the band's enduring legacy and hopefully find out the reasons why the band is still the toast of the music world. With debate already circling around whether Frenzal Rhomb are representing the Froth or the Fury at next year's event, we ask Jason to set the record straight."Oh, listen, we're a big Froth band," he declared. "There's not a lot of Fury going in our world these days, but still a lot of froth."We mention the line-up, which includes Polaris, Soulfly, Nailbomb, Comeback Kid, Lagwagon and In Hearts Wake and ask where Frenzal sits on the musical merry-go-round."I'm looking forward to being the least heavy band on the entire line up," he smiled. "I think it'll be some pleasant relief for people to hear some nice three-part harmonies, a bit of Linda Ronstadt… a bit of The Eagles, maybe?"Which begs the question: is Jason even a fan of heavier music?"Oh God, I don't like any music," he laughed. "No, I do like some heavy music. I feel like when I'm being screamed at for longer than probably 15 minutes, then I start getting the shits. But those 15 minutes are good. When I can't understand one lyric for, 10 to 15 minutes, then I'm like, don't make me look at the Internet to find out what you're saying. I'm just going to assume that you're not a Nazi."In the full interview, we talk about the A Man's (Still) Not A Camel Tour and how it has been going, the fact that Frenzal are still a musical force so deep into their career, why he thinks festival organisers keep asking for Frenzal Rhomb to play on heavier line-ups and where Frenzal sit amongst so much aggression. We talk about the remaining shows of the tour, their smash and grab mission to play in Quebec, how people overseas react to the band's sarcastic sense of humour, the endless possibilities with Anniversary tours, old websites that still have value and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Send us a textOriginally from Denver, CO, Dylan Wineland is an award-winning cinematographer now residing in Salt Lake City, Utah. In today's episode, we dive into Dylan's journey and unexpected path to becoming a commercial DP (Director of Photography), all of which came to be thanks to dirt bikes. Dylan grew up riding and racing dirt bikes against the likes of Eli Tomac, Jason Anderson, and Justin Bogle. While Dylan didn't have quite the career that the aforementioned did, he was able to race locally in the A class against the likes of future professional Supercross and motocross racers, Derek Anderson and Todd Bannister. We also spend time talking about his steps to becoming a cinematographer, working on season one of The Spectrum Series alongside me, his time interning at Brain Farm, and eventually working for commercial clients such as Ford Motor Co., Toyota USA, BF Goodrich, The Olympics, KN Filters, Polaris, and more. This was a wonderful conversation diving into many more topics and I hope all enjoy! You can pay your taxes, you can pay off your mortgage, but there's one debt that can never be settled. Fortunately, the inexhaustible debt to love others is a happy burden. Yes, it's very difficult sometimes, but the end result can be peaceful and pleasant. In the section of Romans 13 that we've been looking at, Paul charges his readers to love "one another," and then again, to love "your neighbor." So the circle widens. Here's Jim to finish a sermon called, Love's Truest Test. As Christians we are free! - but we have obligations. At some point in our journey toward adulthood we figure out that grownups have to pay bills. And those who don't pay what they owe will have a difficult time of it. It's the same on our road to Christian maturity. Along the way, we learn that we have debts. Jim will talk about what those are, in the opening segment of his sermon, Love's Truest Test. Canagold Resources Ltd (TSX:CCM, OTCQB:CRCUF) CEO Catalin Kilofliski talked with Proactive about the company's newly released feasibility study for its New Polaris gold project. The study outlines robust project economics, with Kilofliski confirming it would generate around $1.1 billion in free cash flow at current gold prices. Even at a conservative gold price of $2,500 per ounce, the project still delivers a 30% after-tax internal rate of return (IRR) and an NPV of $425 million. “Those are outstanding results,” said Kilofliski. Notably, these figures exclude any upside from antimony – a critical metal present in the deposit. The CEO highlighted the significance of the 5,000 tonnes of antimony in the current mine plan, estimating its value between $200 million and $300 million, and emphasised the strategic importance of non-Chinese supply sources: “Up until recently… 90% of antimony used globally is produced in China.” Kilofliski also detailed Canagold's collaborative approach to permitting with the Taku River Tlingit First Nation, noting a decade-long relationship and an active technical working group. Key near-term milestones include filing the environmental assessment later this year, while long-term goals include adding green energy and expanding gold and antimony resources. "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." That simple scripture, Romans 12:21, is sparking some thought in us. How do we respond when someone injures our reputation, or our career - or our body? It takes some faith and imagination to believe that my "enemy" might one day be my brother or sister in Christ. If we could distill the entire Bible into one verse, which verse would you choose? Most people would say that John 3:16 is the message of God's Word in miniature: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." But Jim has a different choice! Today he'll defend his selection of Romans 12:21 as the unified message of the Bible. It's a verse that divides all of humanity! "Comeuppance" is a word we need to bring back! "Punishment" and "retribution" are good words. But there's just something satisfying about the villain finally getting his comeuppance! In Romans 12, Paul uses the word "Wrath." And today Jim will show that God's wrath is better than our wrath - for at least a couple of reasons. Here's Part 2 of his sermon, Stretch Your Credibility. Canagold Resources CEO Catalin Kilofliski joined Steve Darling from Proactive to share the positive results of the Feasibility Study for the company's 100%-owned New Polaris gold-antimony project in northwest British Columbia. The study confirms robust project economics and sets the stage for Canagold's transition into permitting and development. Kilofliski highlighted that the FS outlines an after-tax Net Present Value (NPV) of $425 million and an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 30.9% based on a base-case gold price of US$2,500 per ounce, with a project payback period of just 2.4 years. Under a spot gold price of US$3,300 per ounce, the economics become even more compelling, with an after-tax NPV of $793 million, an IRR of 47.3%, and a reduced payback period of 1.7 years. The Life of Mine (LOM) after-tax free cash flow is projected to be $649 million at the base-case price and $1.1 billion at the spot price, reinforcing New Polaris as a low-capex, low-AISC project with significant upside potential. Kilofliski stated, “The Feasibility Study results demonstrate exceptional economics, even at conservative gold prices. As we continue optimizing the project—including antimony recovery and potential cost reductions through green power solutions—our immediate priority is progressing through the permitting phase toward construction and eventual production.” He also acknowledged the Taku River Tlingit First Nation for their collaborative engagement and ongoing open dialogue, emphasizing the company's commitment to responsible development. #proactiveinvestors #canagoldresources #tsx #ccm #otcqb #crcuf #mining
When someone gives you hate, can you give them love... and say, "Keep the change?" It's unnatural to bless those who curse you. Or maybe "supernatural" is a better word. In those seemingly rare instances when it happens, the whole world notices. People are forced to come to grips with the fact that there's something else going on here, something more than meets the eye - something supernatural. What's the one thing all entrepreneurs have in common? You guessed it: Self-Doubt. While it's only natural to have emotions around building your business, engaging the right support can help owners confidently launch plans into action, side stepping the derailments that the DIY-ers will waste time and money fixing. Join Jamie and Polaris CEO, Diwakar Sinha, for a conversation around the considerations that need to happen BEFORE you build, and how a personal Discovery Day can lay out an efficient, winning strategy for success.
Trouble? We eat trouble for breakfast! In Romans 12:12 we see three atmospheres, requiring three different attitudes from us. Trouble, or affliction, is just one of those atmospheres. No one likes difficulties, but they will come. The good news is that we can make our problems serve us. Jim will explain, and he'll walk us through the "Hope" and "Prayer" elements of this verse, as well. The thing about serving the Lord is, there are no days off! The difference between the sacred and the secular in the Christian's life is exactly zero. "Do all to the glory of God," Paul would write to the Corinthians. In his letter to the Romans, he talks about what that feels like from the inside. It feels like something bubbling over. Are we "fervent" - hot, boiling, heated by the flame of the Spirit? Here's the conclusion of Jim's sermon, Too Hot to Handle. Don't be a sloth! Romans 12, verse 11 gives us three directives (one "don't" and two "do's"). They have to do with our outer work ethic, our inner state of excitement in the Spirit, and the purpose of it all: to "serve the Lord." A Christian working with diligence will certainly stand out next to someone advocating a 4-day work week and free paid everything, serving only his own comfort. But maybe this message is Too Hot to Handle. That's Jim's sermon title. "Outdo one another in showing honor." Ah, it's a contest! Most translations render the last part of Romans 12:10 something like, "in honor giving preference to one another." But others read, "Set examples for each other in showing respect." There's an element of eagerness that Paul is asking for: Get to the front of the line in this matter of putting others first! Do I matter? We all want to know that we have significance, value, worth, even honor. Well, that value was proven at the Cross. We were ransomed with something far more valuable than gold, as Peter writes: with the "precious blood of Christ." But our value isn't of any use hidden under the mattress. This worth is exchanged within the family - by living the faith life with other redeemed ones. Here's Jim to open a sermon called, Living Respectfully. According to Joseph de Maistre, "Every country has the government it deserves." If the philosopher's point seems a little too sharp, how about the psalmist? "For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest upon the land of the righteous, so that the righteous will not put forth their hands to do wrong." We'll have to conclude that both good and bad rulers are instruments for God's purposes. We're looking at the first 7 verses of Romans 13 as we round out Jim's sermon, Respecting the Higher Powers. Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am. Don't be conformed to the culture, but comply with Congress? What? Romans, chapter 13 gives us the clearest instruction anywhere in Scripture of how Christians should relate to civil government. But let's not tear it out of its context. All that the Apostle has written in chapter 12 about being transformed, and our living sacrifice, is still in play. The key to understanding this is the idea of delegated authority. Here's Jim on Respecting the Higher Powers. Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am. "Communion" celebrates our common union. As we're thinking about the brotherhood and sisterhood of believers, let's not forget that we have a living picture of that in the Lord's Supper! Every time we celebrate this memorial meal, we can see God's love working not just in the vertical dimension - but horizontally, among our siblings in the family of the redeemed. We'll back up for a few minutes into yesterday's program, then Jim will close his thoughts on Romans 12 with Part 2 of, Behaving Like Brethren. Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am. "Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another...." In Romans, Paul offers us grand theology, as well as some "Do's and Don'ts" of getting along with others: "...distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality." He writes, "Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Agree toward one another." Today Pastor Jim begins a sermon called, Behaving Like Brethren. Love, and right. When fake Christians parrot the words, "God is love," they mean, "God is love and does not judge." But the Bible explains, "Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth." That's in Paul's famous "love chapter," 1 Corinthians 13. So real love - "true love," as we've been discussing - not only distinguishes good from evil; it aligns itself with righteousness. We can't love without giving, but we can give without loving. Love gives. It doesn't have to be prodded, it doesn't overthink things, it doesn't care how the gift might look to others - love just gives. God so loved, that He gave. That stands in contrast, a lot of times, to our giving. That's what we noticed yesterday from Romans 12. Today Jim will tell us all 4 obstacles to genuine love. Here's Part 2 of his sermon, True Love Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am. "The Academy award goes to....!" In our study of Romans 12 we've noticed that God distributes gifts to those in His family, to build each other up. But it's possible to employ those gifts in a kind of hollow performance. Are we just acting? Or are we being driven by love? And why is it so hard to take off the mask? What are we afraid will happen if people see the real Me? Jim will share some insights into that. Here's the opening to his sermon, True Love. What if God were to give you a gift wrapped in brown paper? We're not just adopted into the divine family; we've been given a gift for blessing others. And let's just admit it: we all want the spectacular gifts. The Corinthians wanted the flashy gifts, the Romans were tempted toward envy or pride because of how God had gifted them. But it stands to reason that most of our gifts will be ordinary. Functional, not flashy. Are we OK with that? Are we mutilating the Body of Christ? Here in the land of "rugged individualism" we live our lives disconnected. We're often separated from kin and community by geography and economics. Now technology can connect us, but often isolates us even more. We were not meant to live our Christian lives this way. We were baptized into something: into the church. In it, we don't lose our individuality; we find ourselves. Where do we worship God? Everywhere! To present our bodies as a living sacrifice is our "reasonable" act of worship, Paul writes. That Greek word denotes something "pertaining to the mind and soul." More than just physical service: we're offering every part of ourselves - spirit, soul and body. And that happens everywhere! One more word that we need to know for today's study, is "publican." That's a tax collector; a man of low status in the first century. Now we come to a verse that most Christians disobey. If we've read and understood the first 11 chapters of Romans, then we see our situation clearly: We've been rescued purely by the goodness of the Father, and the merits of Christ. We certainly don't have any reason to boast. And that should create gratitude in our hearts. And that gratitude should grow into love, and a desire to serve and please God. That would be a Worthy Response. "...and so all Israel shall be saved." Here's the point of Paul's three-chapter argument in Romans 9 through 11: Far from being done with the Jewish people, God will draw them to Himself. And they will come the same way everyone else comes - the only Way - through faith in Messiah Jesus. Even Israel's lack of belief now, is part of the exquisite plan of Heaven. This truth has implications for every person and nation on the Earth. Here's Jim in Romans 11. We'll be baffled by current events if we don't know history... and we can't understand history without the Bible! God has made promises to the people of Israel. And those promises will be fulfilled - regardless the opinions of the UN, or the media, or the "Palestinians," so-called. Even bad theology by Christians won't hinder the plans of "the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." Some of those plans had been a secret, Paul says. But not anymore. In this episode of Trending in Education, Mike Palmer hosts Charles Beyrouthy, Managing Partner at Forma Prime, a venture capital firm, to explore the exciting intersection of deep technology and the future of education. We dive into the profound shifts happening in our world, from the cutting-edge advancements in quantum computing, new sensor technologies, and cybersecurity, as well as the impact of generative AI on all of this. Key Takeaways: Charles Beyrouthy's Journey: Charles shares his fascinating career path, from studying chemical engineering and biochemistry at UMass Amherst to accidentally falling into chemical engineering, working in microfluidics research, and eventually transitioning into oil and natural gas consulting before founding a lab software startup called LabCloud. The Boston Biotech Ecosystem: We discuss Boston's rise as a biotech hub, examining how VC firms like Flagship and Polaris provided not just funding but also operational support, placing executives and consultants to bridge the gap between IP-centric research and commercialization. This transformation was fueled by institutions like MIT, Harvard, and Boston University, and supported by a robust supplier base. Deep Tech Investment Landscape: Charles explains Forma Prime's focus on deep tech, particularly semiconductors, and why this sector sits uniquely between SaaS (low IP moat, high market following) and biotech (high IP moat, long regulatory cycles). Semiconductors offer a high IP moat, a low regulatory environment, and massive implementation potential. Quantum Technology & Its Applications: We delve into quantum computing, moving beyond the theoretical to discuss real-world applications like quantum GPS that don't rely on satellites and the system on the International Space Station which uses room-temperature neutral atom technology developed by Infleqtion. We also touch upon other use cases like quantum radio frequency technology and quantum GPS timekeeping for synchronization. Q Day and Cybersecurity: We also explore the concept of "Q Day" – the hypothetical point where quantum computers could break conventional encryption. While Charles believes conventional encryption standards like RSA 256 are still robust, he acknowledges the need for continued research and government support for quantum encryption. Gradient Technologies, a Forma Prime portfolio company, is pioneering hardware-authenticated access to enhance cybersecurity. Challenges in Academia and Industry Alignment: A critical theme is the disconnect between academia and entrepreneurial activity in the private sector. Charles advocates for better alignment in curricula, teaching styles, and practicums to ensure graduates emerge work-ready. He also emphasizes the need for professors to upskill in emerging technologies and for academia to prioritize practical application and societal value over purely academic pursuits. The Semiconductor Workforce Crisis: Charles issues a powerful call to action regarding the urgent need for skilled technicians and engineers in the US semiconductor industry. He highlights that we need at least 35,000 technicians for new fabs and urges educators to step forward to develop practical training programs to address this. This is a must-listen for anyone interested in the bleeding edge of technology and its implications for our future. We unpack complex topics like quantum computing and its real-world applications, offering a clear and accessible overview. We also engage in a timely discussion about the critical role of education in preparing the next generation for a rapidly evolving technological landscape, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities for collaboration between academia and industry. What if your "goodness" is really wickedness? When Jesus confronts you and me, He requires that we give up something. If you know you're a sinner, then you know what that something is. But if you think you're a fine, upstanding person - or at least better than most - you're in for a surprise. The Lord will demand that you surrender your self-righteousness. All those fine clothes you've covered yourself with? They're really rags. And they stink. Here's Jim with Part 2 of, 'Whosoever' Includes You.
