Mountain men! Moses received the Ten Commandments on a mountain. Elijah defeated the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. The elevation of Carmel, by the way, is about 1800 feet. Sinai rises 7500 feet above sea level. So, on the day we're about to study, Moses and Elijah were higher than they'd ever been: If this is Mount Hermon, it's 9,000 feet. That's a "high mountain," as Mark calls it in chapter 9 of his Gospel. What is the lesson of the loaves? Whatever the lesson was, the Disciples were not grasping it. Maybe it was that the God who had made the wheat, as well as the Sun to shine on it and the rain to fall on it, could just as easily make the loaves. Mark gave us the most powerful parenthetical of all time! "Thus He declared all foods clean" is the way it's most often translated. And it's not even the main thought of the sentence, just a little aside, a little "oh, by the way," usually set off in parentheses. But wow! What a potent tangent! Lip-syncing isn't as easy as it looks! The people in Jesus' audience were giving a very bad performance. Their lips were out-of-sync with their hearts, just as Isaiah had prophesied. Their leaders had taught them to break God's Law in order to keep their traditions (and line their pockets). They were defiling themselves in an effort to make themselves clean. How can Christ untangle this mess? We'll read about it today, as our survey of the Gospel of Mark moves forward. What does it mean to be clean? There is physically clean - and that's good. It's a sign of mental illness to prefer to be grubby. Karl Marx was infamous for his horrible hygiene. Then there's spiritually clean. But the Scribes and Pharisees were focused on another type of purity - the ceremonially clean. And for some reason they thought their cleansing ritual should be endorsed by God, and mandated for everyone. Jesus had other thoughts. Worries, wealth, and the Word. In the field - I'm talking about a farmer's field - the crops are competing with other things for the resources of the soil. Thorns, Jesus called them. When the soil is the human heart, the good seed of God's Word is contending with just about everything else that will cross your mind today. As we've studied Jesus' Parable of the Sower in Mark chapter 4, we've talked about the hard ground and the rocky ground. Today Jim will help us think about the thorny ground. Designed as a voluntary, non-adversarial alternative to traditional court processes, Polaris brings together judges, probation officers, prosecutors, defense attorneys, clinicians, peer supporters, and community agencies to address the root causes of criminal behavior linked to mental illness. I start off reviewing Polaris 35, which in my opinion was not that fun of a watch. Once again, bad rulesets seem to have removed the incentive from athletes to go after submissions and make for boring match ups. I then dig into UFC 235, which had some fun match ups and finishes. Auto and powersports financiers mostly reported lower originations and sales for the last quarter as shifting spending patterns by cash-strapped consumers fuel uncertainty. Lenders that reported fewer sales and loan originations, according to their respective earnings releases, include: Credit Acceptance Corp.'s consumer loan assignment volume, down 9.1% year over year in its fourth quarter; GM Financial's Q4 loan lease originations, down 18.7% YoY; OneWater Marine's F&I revenue, declined 5.4% YoY in its fiscal first quarter; Tesla's lease portfolio in Q4, dropped 12% YoY; and Volvo's North American Q4 sales, down 19.6% YoY in Q4. However, some financiers reported positive results last quarter: Group 1 Automotive's F&I revenue climbed 1.9% YoY; Polaris' Q4 sales climbed 9.5% YoY in Q4; and  MarineMax's F&I revenue for its fiscal Q1 climbed 0.9% YoY and total revenue climbed 7.8% YoY.  Meanwhile, mergers and acquisitions in the RV and marine industries are on the rise after a yearslong slowdown following the pandemic.  Auto Finance News will present multiple invaluable events for industry professionals in 2026, starting with Auto Finance Summit East and Auto Finance Capital Summit in May. Christ loves - and the religion of Christ loves - children. To Molech or Allah or the Aztec god Tlaloc, a child is a worthy sacrifice. To worshipers of the American god of materialism a child may be an inconvenience (and a potential sacrifice), or a god itself. Careful not to cross that one. Agencies are implementing AI in different ways, from developing internal tools to buying off-the-shelf solutions. At Space Force, Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Officer Chandra Donelson and AI Innovation Lead Oliver Tannheiser told AI GovCast that they are using innovative strategies to bring AI to Guardians. Flywheel Award winner Tannheiser said that Space Force is using GPT systems to give Guardians access to 33 different large language models, allowing them access to different ways to solve problems using AI. Donelson added that Space Force is shifting its AI adoption mindset to identify specific problems faced by Guardians and working backward to find the right tool. Tannheiser also noted that the Space Force AI Challenge is bringing innovation to Guardians. One recent success is Polaris, an AI tool designed to help families navigate the stressors of Permanent Change of Station by finding childcare and base information.
