It's time for another Minilog, as well as our first discussion of a manga, the cult classic Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer. Stop me if you've heard this one - a guy gets psychic powers in a battle for the fate of the world as a knight in a war between a princess and a mage. Hold up though, it's more complex than that, because Satoshi Mizukami is a master of the craft of Manga and always manages to come up with a cool twist on things that seem like you've seen it before. Join us as we discuss Amamiya Yuuhi's growth in a most unusual coming of age story as he swears fealty to Asahina Samidare, the little Lucifer who only wishes to save the world so she can destroy it herself in this tale of smashing planets. Just... don't watch the anime.

Not wanting to be bothered with such nonsense, Yuuhi ignores him until the Princess finds him, and reveals herself to be his neighbor Samidare Asahina, and that she aims to stop the Mage from destroying the world so that she can destroy it herself. Immediately switching sides, Yuuhi swears his fealty to this insanity, and dedicates his life to bringing about the end of days. Anyway, while Sid is off on his own ventures, Colton takes care of the show this week and covers the news with the help of Shonen Sunday fanatic, Bomber D Rufi (@kiirobon), as they talk about the usual new upcoming manga serials, licenses and live action films! Some highlights include a list of the biggest first printings from the biggest manga publishers within the last year, Viz Media licensing of Dragon Ball: That Time I Was Reincarnated as Yamcha, as well as some new info about Hiro Mashima’s upcoming new series! Afterwards, Maxy Barnard (@MaxyTheBee) from Friendship! Effort! Victory!, joins the show to discuss and dissect Takamagahara from Jyuuzou Kawai. Another prematurely ending Shonen Jump manga that ran simultaneously in English and Japanese via Viz Media before the era of Jump Starts! Colton and Maxy discuss how they feel about the series in relation to its many unexplored ideas and themes that were shadowed by both some less than stellar storytelling and various production issues behind the scenes. Next episode, we’ll be discussing our thoughts on Viz’s latest round of Jump Starts, as well two recent one shots from both Hiroshi Shiibashi (Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan) and Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro (Toriko). Ever wanted to know what a slime monster tastes like? Apparently mangaka Ryoko Kui did. This week the Manga Mavericks fill up on her D&D-inspired cooking manga Delicious in Dungeon, recently published over in the west by Yen Press. Did it whet the boys’ appetite for a fantasy cooking manga, or did it leave a bad aftertaste? If you’ve read my review of the first volume, you can probably guess, but listen and find out anyways! Before that, we’ve of course got news to deal with! We run down Oricon’s latest semi-annually top-selling charts, exciting upcoming new manga, and changes going on in Weekly Shonen Jump’s lineup, including the addition of two new Jump Starts, Shudan! and Cross Account! Shudan! already debuted in this week’s Jump, and it’s one of the best first chapters I’ve read in a while. Definitely look forward to us discussing it more in-depth on the next episode of the show. Between the news and our Dungeon discussion, this is a short but sweet episode that’ll be sure to satisfy your cravings for great manga talk! Oh, and in case you didn’t know I made an anti-piracy rap. I was inspired by the Anime Cypher challenge and wanted to so something like that. Except none of the people I tagged have answered the call. Guess I’m the only real gangsta in this community after all!
