We and our guest Official Series' Letterer Sabrina Heep discuss Shonen Jump manga The Comiq from the creator of Yu-Gi-Oh! MAL Description: Starring "an unlikely love for two," Pendulum of Love is the latest series to be serialized in the popular magazine Shoujo Jump. This serialization is also the debut of Ryota Sakamaki. Through his editor, the shy rookie manga artist receives some help in the form of complex background artwork from a mysterious person. Though the pair frequently work with one another, Ryota has never once met his assistant, leading to his curiosity about the person's identity. Upon further investigation, Ryota learns that his background illustrator is Katsuo Baba, a prisoner convicted of the infamous "Halloween Murder"—a crime committed within the local park three years ago that his own work seems to reference. While hesitant to work with a criminal at first, Ryota quickly picks up on Katsuo's desperation, and after meeting him face-to-face, Ryota becomes determined to set him free with the power of their manga! This week on Anime+, Aray and Aunn tackle another stacked lineup of anime, manga, and gaming headlines. From box office records to surprise sequels, there's plenty to dig into:
Puhumme vanhuuden ja ikääntymisen kuvaamisesta mangassa sekä siitä, millaisissa rooleissa vanhemmat hahmot tarinoissa ovat. Ajankohtaisina aiheina puhumme kohusta, joka syntyi Vizin julkaistua tekoälyfirma Orangen käännöksen sarjasta Dealing with Mikadono Sisters Is a Breeze, amerikkalaisten sarjakuvapalkintogaalojen mangaedustuksesta tänä vuonna sekä The New Yorkerin artikkelista siitä, miten Shonen Jump -lehdestä on tullut mangan hittitehdas. Lukujonossa kokeilemme tuoretta fantasiasarjaa Ichi the Witch sekä luemme loppuun Delicious in Dungeonin. --- Kommentoi | Bluesky | Mastodon | X | Threads | Instagram --- (01:24) – KUULUMISET: TULEVAT JAKSOT - Young Magazine USA (08:04) – VANHUUS: ESITTELY – Jakso 61, jossa puhuimme siitä, miksi mangasarjat ovat niin pitkiä (10:53) – VANHUUS: IÄN MERKITYS JAPANILAISESSA YHTEISKUNNASSA – Mainittuja sarjoja, joissa pienelläkin ikäerolla on väliä: – Space Brothers – Onimai – Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro – You Got Me, Sempai!, josta puhuimme jaksossa 115 – Takopi's Original Sin – Ouran High School Host Club – Mr. Tonegawa: Middle Management Blues – Toradora (20:53) – VANHUUS: KESKI-IKÄISET – ReLIFE-sarjassa 27-vuotias salaryman saa tilaisuuden elää lukioikänsä uudestaan, mutta nuorennetun kehon suorituskyky jää kuitenkin ennalleen, ja päähenkilö satuttaa selkänsä palloa heittäessään, koska ei ole urheillut työelämään astumisen jälkeen – Kaiju No. 8:n päähenkilö on 32-vuotias – Jakso 85, jossa Maaret listasi kuulijakommenttiosiossa viisi suosikkiaan seksikkäistä setämiehistä – Psycho-Passin vanhempi toimeenpanija Masaoka (kuva) – Jakso 104, jossa puhuimme Japanin koulujärjestelmästä Tarinoita, jotka kertovat lukioikäisen vanhemmasta (molemmat toki myös seinenmangan toimintasankareita): – My Home Hero – Inuyashiki Opettajia: – Blue Periodin Masako Saeki – Puhuimme sarjasta jaksossa 57 – Great Teacher Onizukan vararehtori Uchiyamada ja rehtori/puheenjohtaja/tms Sakurai (tittelit ja positiot ovat vähän hankalia) – Puhuimme sarjasta jaksossa 104 – Spy x Familyn Henry Henderson – Puhuimme sarjasta jaksossa 53 Seinensankareita: – Golgo 13 – Tonegawa kertoo, miten kädet pestään oikein (YouTube) – Minami no teiou – Sakamoto Days Romansseja ja romanttisia ihmissuhdetarinoita: – After the Rain, josta puhuimme jaksossa 52 – 10 Things I Want to Do Before I Turn 40 – Old-Fashioned Cupcake, josta puhuimme jaksossa 79 – Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You, josta puhuimme jaksossa 83 Seksikkäitä setämiessarjoja: – A Man and His Cat – Hotel Metsäpeura e youkoso (49:47) – VANHUUS: REALISTISET VANHUKSET Sarjoja, joissa lukioikäinen asuu isovanhemman kanssa: –Orange, josta puhuimme jaksossa 116 – My Dress-up Darling – Full Moon wo Sagashite – Go with the Clouds, North by Northwest, josta puhuimme jaksossa 26 – Tarpeettoman seksikäs isoisä (kuva) – Fullmetal Alchemist, josta puhuimme jaksossa 84 Sarjoja, joista löytyy turvallisia mekaanikkotätejä ja -setiä: – Heavy Object – Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Naisnäkökulmaa vanhenemiseen: – BL Metamorphosis – Credits Roll into the Sea – Hanamonogatari – Ristorante Paradiso ja Gente – GDILF = Grandad I'd Like to Fuck Mies ja lapsi -sarjoja: – Candy & Cigarettes – Alice & Zoroku – Länkkärivastine: Up – kohti korkeuksia Mainittuja mies ja lapsi -sarjoja, joissa se mies on nuorempi: – Aishiteruze Baby – Barakamon – Hinamatsuri (01:04:01) – VANHUUS: TAISTELUVAARIT Shounenmättösarjoja, joista löytyy kovia taisteluvaareja: – Dragon Ball – Dr. Stone, josta puhuimme jaksossa 41 – One-Punch Man (seinensarja, mutta täynnä Jump-energiaa) – Hunter × Hunter – Bleach – Jujutsu Kaisen – My Hero Academian Gran Torino on saanut inspiraationsa Yodasta, kuten puhuimme jaksossa 94 – Yoda taas on saanut inspiraationsa Akira Kurosawan leffasta Seitsemän samuraita – Länkkärivastine: Kung Fu Panda – One Piece – Monkey D. We'll be back on 9/15 with our first thoughts on Get Away Matsumoto! - 100 Days Escape. MAL Description: In the year 2030, the secrets of the universe have been unraveled and visitors from various planets have appeared on Earth. In order to avoid sudden contact with other world civilizations, the Earth Alliance limited the area of trade and built a huge populated island called "Dejima" in the southern part of Okinawa, Japan, bordering Taiwan. The aliens are prohibited from stopping at ports other than Dejima, but various crimes began to occur frequently on Dejima, where different civilizations and values were mixed. In order to protect the security of the area, the Dejima Police of the Earth Alliance, the Federation Police of the Space Alliance, and a mixed force of aliens and earthlings were established. This was the "Gundragon". Gundragon's investigator, Sigma, stopped a runaway truck carrying smugglers. On the back of the truck, a Mumerian from a water planet, who commits suicide to protect its secret. Sigma sneaks into a tavern in search of his friends, where he finds a Mumerian and a small black hole, which is forbidden by the United Space Federation... Reviewer Mark T jumps into the discussion this week as we dive into friendship, effort, and victory. Yup, we're talking about Weekly Shonen Jump, the long running manga publication which has brought the world the juggernauts of shonen manga! From Dragonball to Jojo's to One Piece, Jump has been a hit maker for decades. Yet with the end of One Piece somewhere on the horizon, is there anything that could possibly carry that torch? Does the magazine need series that seemingly never end, or has that age passed? We talk about the past, present, and future of Jump. Plus some news (mostly Discotek licenses...) and recommendations!
Originally recorded on 6/11/2025 Danny, Oscar, and Gerry talk about Night Reign, Nioh 3, The Last of Us and more. Email: Unversedpodcast@gmail.com

On this episode of Big Eyes, AD and LJ are joined by Skip (SkipFromBK) to discuss Sakamoto Days, including it's relevance in Shonen Jump, comparison to its contemporaries, and the overall story.
Sakamoto Days -- TMS Entertainment's anime adaptation of Yuto Suzuki's hit action-comedy manga -- is currently one of Shonen Jump's most popular next-generation IPs. However, it is now consistently being overtaken in the anime streaming war by Science Saru's Dandadan series.Per Netflix's streaming report for Aug 4-10, Sakamoto Days is currently the platform's 10th most-watched "Non-English" show worldwide, with over seven million watch hours accrued over 1.1 million views. Comparatively, third-place winner Dandadan has amassed 6.2 million watch hours from 2.5 million total views. Moreover, unlike Sakamoto Days, Dandadan is available on other platforms for international viewers, making its high Netflix ranking even more impressive. The only other anime to earn a spot in Netflix's Top 10 is Studio Hibari's supernatural dark fantasy series Tougen Anki, which sits at a modest seventh place. Cour 2 (or Part 2) of Sakamoto Days premiered on July 14 -- roughly one week after Dandadan's Season 2 debut.Support The Podcast!https://creators.spotify.com/pod/show/roose366/subscribeFollow For More Content &Streams!Science Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/5nFXe9dPeWrMpyObyAlrnF?si=7358d1cf32cb45b7Youtube Gaming: https://www.youtube.com/@RooseJp/videosTiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@podcastonanime

Former Weekly Shonen Jump editor-in-chief Kazuhiko Torishima has once again voiced his criticism of One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda, this time for what he perceives as an over-involvement in the anime adaptation. The comments come from Torishima's new book, Botsu: The Hated Work Ethic of Shonen Jump's Legendary Editor-in-Chief, released in May 2025.Per X (formerly Twitter) user Sandman, Torishima implied that Oda has been neglecting his manga in favor of the anime adaptation. "If I were Oda's editor, I would give him extremely strict feedback on his manga because he has talent," Torishima reportedly states in the book, adding, "Oda has become too involved in anime." He expresses that his dissatisfaction is not with One Piece itself, but rather with the editorial policies of Shonen Jump. Torishima also criticizes the current editors for being intimidated by the veteran mangaka, recounting that young editors sometimes cannot even get Oda to answer their calls. "If it were me, I'd just drive straight to his studio, sit there for hours, and keep pressuring him," Torishima assertsSupport The Podcast!https://creators.spotify.com/pod/show/roose366/subscribeFollow For More Content &Streams!Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/roosejpYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@Roose366 Youtube Gaming: https://www.youtube.com/@RooseJp/videosTiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@podcastonanime
