POPULARITY
BEFORE WE BEGIN – the best way to enjoy today's stupidity is in the form of video, which as a special thank you to all of you for another great year, I have edited together and made FREE at patreon.com/funeralkazoo. No strings attached. Just a gift to you all, with hopes for happy holidays and a fantastic new year. –––––You ever watch a big, blockbuster sci-fi action adventure movie that turns out to be so bereft of technical and scientific merit or accuracy that you almost start to like it? Me neither! On today's very special Christmas Disaster Moviesode: we'll start by joining the shortest, worst, and probably my personal favourite business presentation of all time; we'll learn how the US government tried to spite it's enemies by giving the planet the Alderaan treatment, twice; and we'll meet the man tasked with fixing all this, and saving Earth, and everything on it, but who doesn't even know how to put on a coat.Welcome to the return of the disaster moviesode! We haven't done this in a while, but our last episode on Michael Bay's 1998 shlocktacular Armageddon was so popular, there was no way we weren't coming back to this. I promise if I win the lotto over the holidays, I'll make moviesodes a regular thing thing.Today's story, currently sits at 34% on Rotten Tomatoes. This is a film that critics called “a modestly fun exercise in disappointment”, and “as aggressively loud and obnoxious as it is tiresomely stupid”. It's 2 hours and 15 minutes, which I sat through so you didn't have to… it is my distinct pleasure to bring you this very special presentation, the 2003 Aaron Eckhart disaster masterpiece, The Core, made free to one-and-all here on Patreon as a thank you for another great year. Grab your popcorn and your safety glasses and kick your kids out of the room because otherwise this is going to make them stupider, and let's begin.–––––THANK YOU. Most shows survive at the whim of production companies and corporate sponsors, built from the top down. Doomsday doesn't exist because some network exec believes in it – it exists because actual people do. It's built from the bottom up, and it's been my privilege to bring you these stories. Just you, me, and a microphone. I don't do this for you, so much as I do this because of you. Bri Griffen-Moss was just 18 years old when she found herself at the world's largest spiritual gathering: Kumbh Mela. The festival coincided with Shivaratri, where she was baptized to Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction. This sparked a series of spiritual encounters that eventually guided her to become a certified pranic healer, a profession that she found wonderful, until it came back to haunt her years later.Extra Content ▶ https://almostfalse.net/supporters/videos/series/6013Guest Links ▶ https://hub.almostfalse.net/podcast/61Ask a Question ▶ https://almostfalse.net/pages/ask-me-anythingWebsite ▶ https://almostfalse.netDiscord ▶ https://discord.gg/h4eeEt57jkMerch ▶ https://almostfalse.net/pages/merch
If you thought the Jedi were the only ones keeping peace, think again. As diplomatic channels open and new voices enter the conversation, players like the Guardians of the Whills and the mysterious prospectors of the Outer Rim show that everyone has a stake in the future. Some burn for change. Others fight to preserve what's already fading. Episode five sets the stage for a final confrontation — one that will test courage, loyalty, and the very definition of freedom. And trust me... you'll want to be strapped in for what comes next.We hope you enjoy today's show. Nothing says ‘fun afternoon' quite like adding cutlery to your feet, bruising most of your body, and then going for a nice swim. And to clarify, when I say nothing, I mean because that's not something that anyone has ever said before. On today's episode: we'll see how the former digs of axe murderers and corpse thieves and child labour body pits became one of the most beautiful green spaces in London; we'll learn why early ice skates were only marginally more comfortable than being eaten by wolves; and we'll learn why Victorian fashion doubled as de facto funeral attire with the addition of simple water. And because you are listening on Patreon… you'll hear about how early animal captivity turned one man into a bloody Stretch Armstrong doll, complete with blood spray effects; you will learn how the Dutch invented a new high-speed form of knife-fighting and ice skates for horses; and you will hear how London had a unique form of Winter Fair that only closed up for the year once people started drowning. There's no risk of drowning in feces or burning to death in today's story, so in a way this is our nicest visit to Victorian England we've ever attempted – you're welcome. But that said, we're going to see how everything from your hobbies to your clothes wanted you dead. And I don't want to spoil anything, but by the time we're finishing up, you're going to wonder just how often the same thing can happen again and again. I don't want your takeaway to be fear, I want it to be hope and empowerment, acknowledging even the most frightening situations are not guaranteed death sentences. As one of my favourite listeners says, “you're not dead till you're warm and dead”. This is our last normal episode of the year. A year that will have brought you more than 934 minutes of content and laid 23,589 corpses at your feet. Not bad if I do say so myself. The next episode will be our Christmas disaster movies ode, and for you guys I'm turning it into a video! ––––– THANK YOU. Truth, like light, can be blinding. The Jedi try to stay centered, but even guardians of peace have doubts. As the Circle of Light discusses matters beyond the stars, a tangled web involving the Pathfinder Corps, Jedi Outreach, and more begins to form. Who can be trusted? Who's really in control? And what's up with those hyperspace anomalies that keep cropping up at just the wrong time? You'll have to listen to find out. There's a hum in the Force — a melody only the brave dare follow. Episode three opens a new path, guided by Force-sensitive wanderers, Jedi whispers, and… rumors of the enigmatic Path of the Open Hand. But who really hears the truth? Behind the smiles of merchants and the chatter of travelers, organizations like the Republic Fair Committee hide their own motivations. Not all roads in the Republic are paved with hope. Hello! On this classic episode from the archives of The Delicious Legacy I decided to include some ten minute of extra content from my interview with Farrell and I have remastered the audio as it was a bit dodgy the last time round. Hope it's more pleasant and easier to listen now!I'm very excited about this episode! Farrell Monaco is a culinary & experimental archaeologist, and bread-baking addict! Especially of the ancient Greco-Roman variety...So what better person to chat about the ancient cuisine? And it's a very thought-provoking and thoughtful. Who were the people (and the animals!) who did the hard work?Currently in California -where she was when we spoke online- but mostly researching in Pompeii, Herculaneum and Ostia about ancient Greco-Roman breadways.More info on bread from Pompeii by Farrell Monaco:https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20230629-adoreum-the-newly-discovered-flatbread-fresco-of-pompeiihttps://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20230406-arculata-the-bread-that-survived-pompeiiApuleius and The Golden Ass:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Golden_AssEtruscan Tarquinian Tombs:https://tarquiniaturismo.com/tomb-of-the-triclinium/?lang=en Farrell's website and blog:https://tavolamediterranea.com/Music by Pavlos KapralosEnjoy!Thom & The Delicious LegacySupport the podcast on Ko-Fi and Patreon for ad-free episodes! https://ko-fi.com/thedeliciouslegacypodcasthttps://www.patreon.com/c/thedeliciouslegacySupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-delicious-legacy. Rough afternoon at The Bridge, but a point gained. We discuss:
The planet is alive — and not just with wildlife. Secrets bloom alongside the vibrant flora of Valo, and the Jedi aren't the only ones keeping watch. This episode introduces you to some hidden players from the Children of the Storm and the ever-curious Communications Guild. What role do they play in the shifting balance of the galaxy? Meanwhile, tensions rise, and lightsabers may be sheathed, but the Force is never still. Grab your headphones and journey deeper into mystery, mayhem, and more than one unexpected twist. Jacob Hawley is back in the Dugout with Telegraph football reporter Sam Dean to break down one of the biggest weeks in the Arteta era. Fresh off dismantling Spurs and putting Bayern Munich in a chokehold at the Emirates, the lads get stuck into the big question: is this the best-coached team in Europe? We talk through:
The average lake around the world is about the size of a large parking lot – the kind of thing you might try to skip a stone across. The current World Record for stone skipping is 88 skips. If you were to skip a stone across the lake we're visiting today, it would have to beat that number by about 406, 912 and it would be bouncing across the water for about three hours. On today's episode: You'll learn about the most boat-hungry lakes anywhere in the world; you'll see why you would rather be beaten half-to-death in the face with a bat than visit the site of today story; and you'll find out how a cherished keepsake from our tale was recovered by a nightmarish bright orange, alien-shaped robot monster made out of airplane-grade aluminum. And because you are listening on Patreon… you will figure out if flat-earthers are just the dumbest people in the world or the dumbest people in history; you will get to walk through the deadliest things to ever happen on the Greatest Lake system in the world; and you will hear a sode inside a sode about a storm from 1913 so powerful than when they needed a name they settled on “Great”.We can only barely understand how frightening today's story must have been for the men who were lost and the families they left behind. I feel a real responsibility to tell their stories with accuracy and respect knowing there are real people out there connected to the story and still wounded by it. That said, outside of calling the ship the Eddy Fitz one time, and then the way I give description to the indescribable physical hell you'd experience if you grabbed a snorkel and tried to visit the site of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, I think maintained a definite air of respect during this episode. You'd be honestly surprised at how many people were so deeply touched and effected by the event. Sorry for sounding so gloomy at the end, but sometimes I get bummed out. Not as bummed as the families of those lost on Gitchi Goomie mind you. With all that said, there are only two more episodes in the year, but they are really something. We'll be having our least nauseating visit to Victorian England in search of outdoor entertainment. And the last episode is our return to the Disaster Moviesode format by popular demand. The last time we did one, it was the 1998 Michael Bay schlocktacular “Armageddon” – a movie so bereft of sense or scientific consideration, they used it at NASA as a test to see how many things you could find wrong with it. Well, this time, we have a film so preposterous, it makes Armageddon look misunderstood. And it contains within it's 2 hours and 15 minute running time almost every type of disaster, except ironically, asteroids. It's the 2003 Aaron Eckhart movie, “The Core”, and I know you're going to like it. I saw it in the theatre, and I certainly didn't.If you like what you hear today, why not consider becoming a supporter of the show at Patreon.com/FuneralKazoo AD-FREE EPISODES, LONGER EPISODES, EXTRA CONTENT, all that good stuff (I'm truly sorry about those ads, I don't get to control them or their placement). We've moved therapy to Tuesday, but who needs therapy when you've just walloped Spurs 4-1? Matt Kandela and Jacob Hawley join the show to joy-scroll through the wreckage of Tottenham's season and ask the big questions: Are we now culturally bigger than Real Madrid? And have we accidentally become the “Heavyweights” of world football? In this episode: ⚪️ Spurs in the Mud: We drink in the “sheer misery” of the Tottenham fan reaction videos and why watching them suffer is better than therapy.

Lory is one of many unfortunate children who have had to live in a haunted house. She saw things worthy of a horror movie, but aside from the paranormal encounters she had in there, what makes her story unique is the fact that the darkness followed her throughout her life, culminating in two major spiritual encounters—one of them being with a faceless giant.Extra Content ▶ https://almostfalse.net/supporters/videos/series/5847Ask a Question ▶ https://almostfalse.net/pages/ask-me-anythingWebsite ▶ https://almostfalse.netDiscord ▶ https://discord.gg/h4eeEt57jkMerch ▶ https://almostfalse.net/pages/merch

On today's episode, Pete and Jacob limp out of the international break with bruised mouths, bruised lineups, and bruised optimism ahead of a monster North London Derby. We get into:
The darkness is thick, but a few sparks remain. This episode is for the stubborn — those who refuse to give up. Jedi, allies, and rogue agents alike push against impossible odds. What unites them? A belief that the light still matters. It's not about victory anymore — it's about not fading quietly. Hope is fragile, and the Eye of Darkness? Still watching. We hope you enjoy today's show. In this Dugout edition of The Arsenal Opinion Podcast, Jacob Hawley takes the hosting seat and welcomes Jack Pitt-Brooke of The Athletic for a deep dive into the North London Derby build-up. Across a lively and insightful conversation, they explore: Tottenham through the eyes of someone who covers them, not supports them, striking the perfect balance for Arsenal listeners. How international breaks shape narratives, coaching trends, and fan expectations, including the role of throw-ins, set pieces, and Premier League punditry. Why international football may actually feel more expressive than club football right now. The shift from superstar match-winners to tactical systems in the modern Premier League. A spicy segment on Declan Rice's best role, as Jack delivers his Hottest of Takes. A measured, slightly worried look at Arsenal's injury-stricken attack heading into the Derby. And finally, Jack's score prediction, which tries (and fails) to keep Spurs fans optimistic. This one blends tactics, narrative, nostalgia, and Derby-day tension. A perfect warm-up for the weekend.

What happens right before everything breaks? This episode captures that still moment before the scream — the calm before the collapse. Organizations clash in secret. Trust fractures in unexpected places. And the galaxy? Teetering on the edge. We'll get up close with the ones who know what's coming — and the ones who will do anything to stop it. Visions, prophecies, and chilling premonitions — oh my! In this episode, we explore the ones who see what's coming… and maybe even shape it. Not all who see the future are Jedi. Some are… weirder. The Force isn't the only power whispering in the dark corners of the galaxy. We're diving deep into mysticism, manipulation, and the frightening idea that maybe — just maybe — we've already lost. Buckle in. It's about to get strange. We hope you enjoy today's show. If you liked the show, please give it a five-star rating on whatever platform you use to consume your content. To begin today's tale, allow me to share a translation of an ancient Chinese joke: Three men were looking at the clouds. One points to a cloud and says, that cloud is shaped like a horse. Another points to a cloud and says, that one is shaped like a whale. The third man points to a mushroom-shaped cloud, and everyone dies. On today's episode: you'll find out just how badly ancient China wanted nothing to do with you; you'll learn about an explosion so large, people miles away had to clear limbs and genitals from their rooves; and you would hear about how at the time, ancient disasters were believed to be Heaven's way of saying your Government sucked. And if you were listening on Patreon… you would hear about how people were killed in the early development of explosives, including those for whom there wasn't enough left to put a thermometer in; you would hear about the time San Francisco tried to use dynamite to fight fires, and how that didn't go as well as you'd think; and you would hear as I climb upon my pulpit and deliver unto you a sermon on blasphemy and the special place in hell reserved for insurance adjusters. As one supporter who already heard this on Patreon said – "everybody Wanggongchang tonight!"Jesus himself will make a quick cameo in this story, and he will explain how all sins are forgivable – except for the blasphemous use of his Dad's name by insurance adjusters, and how there's a toasty level of hell that awaits them all. Apologies in advance if you work in insurance, but it's better to find out now. The last time we visited China, we watched a sideways rocket launch that performed an incomplete orbit over the countryside before landing nose first onto its own launch centre 22 seconds later. Those were the good old days compared to today's story, which is much older, and much more aggressive. It won't be as gory of course, but the body count will be much more egregious. In trying to figure out this story's rightful place in history, I had to start comparing it to meteors and super volcanoes and atomic bombs. Not to spoil anything, but this is one of the more profound disasters we've ever covered, and the cause was I believe, something so innocuous and dumb, I've done it to my cat by accident before. History doesn't repeat in Star Wars — it rhymes with a blaster bolt to the gut. This episode rewinds to ancient teachings, long-forgotten conflicts, and the legacies shaping the present. Some of the organizations moving now have roots deeper than the Jedi Order. And some of those roots are rotten. The Eye of Darkness? It's not just a name. This week's Arsenal Opinion is therapy in name only — because everyone's feeling suspiciously good. Pedro, Matt, and Jacob try to process the weird calm that comes with a 10-game winning streak, a record defensive run, and a fanbase already booking trophy parades. They dive into:
Power shifts, and suddenly, what was heresy becomes doctrine. In this episode, we explore the rise of dangerous ideologies slipping into the mainstream. When fear is the dominant Force in the galaxy, who decides what's right? Some ancient groups are whispering again, and their message is finding willing ears. The line between order and oppression? Blurred. What happens next might change the Jedi — and the Republic — forever. We hope you enjoy today's show. Some see the future. Others torch it. In this episode, we dig into the more radical elements forming around the chaos — those who don't just want change, they want flames. There's a group who thrives in the void, using terror as a strategy and fear as fuel. Their methods are brutal. Their message is spreading. And their enemies? They're not who you expect. Light your saber — this one's going to be intense. We hope you enjoy today's show. If you liked the show, please give it a five-star rating on whatever platform you use to consume your content. Ever wonder what the Jedi do when the lights go out? In this episode, we explore how the galaxy's defenders adapt to a new kind of battlefield — one without clarity, without trust, and maybe without hope. Alliances strain. Morality bends. And a few Jedi? They break. If you think robes and wisdom are all it takes to survive, this chapter might change your mind. It's quiet out there… too quiet. The gears of galactic domination don't grind out in the open — they hum just beneath the surface. In this episode, we take a hard look at the networks of influence fueling the current chaos. It's not just one group — it's many, operating like clockwork. Intelligence leaks, infiltration missions, and silent wars... Welcome to the darker side of coordination. And hey, you might even start questioning if your own favorite characters are pawns or players. Spoiler: it's complicated. We hope you enjoy today's show. You think you've seen cults? You haven't seen this one. The Path of the Open Hand may be quiet, but the echoes of their beliefs are louder than ever. This episode scratches at the surface of fanaticism, fate, and how an idea can spread like wildfire through the void. It's not about who has the Force... It's about who should. Brace yourself for some uncomfortable questions and maybe a few dangerous answers. What you believe might not be safe anymore. We hope you enjoy today's show. Heidi Luv grew up immersed in the LDS church, living a devout Mormon life throughout her childhood, eagerly anticipating the day she would finally go to the temple. However, when that day arrived, the experience was completely different from what she had imagined. The temple rituals and ceremonies challenged everything she thought she knew about her faith. This eye-opening experience forced her to confront the true nature of the LDS church and question the beliefs she had held so deeply. In this interview, Heidi reveals everything she witnessed in the temple, sharing the sacred secrets that are hidden from the public.Extra Content ▶ https://almostfalse.net/supporters/videos/series/5606Guest Links ▶ https://hub.almostfalse.net/podcast/58Ask a Question ▶ https://almostfalse.net/pages/ask-me-anythingSubmit your Story ▶ https://almostfalse.net/submissionsWebsite ▶ https://almostfalse.netDiscord ▶ https://discord.gg/h4eeEt57jkMerch ▶ https://almostfalse.net/pages/merch
You ever hear a planet scream? Neither did the Republic — but that doesn't mean it's not happening. This episode takes us to the fringes of the galaxy, where silence is a weapon and misinformation is deadlier than any lightsaber. A secret syndicate is spreading lies faster than ships can fly. What do they want? Why now? And who's really behind the curtain? Grab your headphones and bring your best conspiracy theories — they might not be so theoretical anymore. We hope you enjoy today's show. They say knowledge is power. But what if power comes from withholding it? In this episode, we explore a group whose reach extends far beyond libraries and archives. They don't fight with sabers — they fight with secrets. The Eye is watching, and some truths are being rewritten in real time. There's danger in what's not said… and even more in who decides what's remembered. Tune in, but maybe don't take notes — someone else already did, and they're not thrilled you're listening. We hope you enjoy today's show. You know what's worse than a Sith? A committee. In this episode, we peel back the layers of the galaxy's shadowy power structures — ancient alliances, secretive orders, and those who think they're pulling all the strings. But some strings pull back. The Jedi aren't just facing threats from outside — they're questioning their own. We'll whisper names you haven't heard in centuries, and shine light into the cracks between organizations you thought you knew. You don't want to miss this one... even if some truths are better left buried. We hope you enjoy today's show. What happens when the beacons go silent and the stars themselves seem to watch in fear? We're kicking off the next season of Star Wars: The High Republic – The Eye of Darkness, and trust me, things are darker than ever. The Jedi are scattered, systems are isolated, and dread is creeping in through cracks the galaxy never noticed before. Ancient organizations move behind veils, and not all knowledge is light. This episode sets the tone for a storm that's coming fast — and it's not just hyperspace that's broken. Buckle up, because this one's not for the faint of heart. Let's dive deep into the mystery... before it swallows the galaxy whole. We hope you enjoy today's show.
