100 Episodes of anything is a pretty monumental feat. Now I know not everyone has heard the early days of RAWtalk, the days when I used to throw poker chips across the table to award points for solid comments or statements. That honestly did not last to long because I always forgot to give them out until the very end. Fro reader Doug Peters asked if he could compile episodes 1-100 with funny moments, solid tips and all around RAWness. I said sure, go for it. The results are two hours of a compilation of moments from the first 100 episodes of FroKnowsPhoto RAWtalk. I hope you enjoy the look back and don’t forget you can download each episode of RAWtalk as an Mp3 going all the way back to Episode #001. The Video portion did not start until somewhere around Episode #17 where we used one gopro angle. You will also notice how the audio quality of the show continued to get better and better when Stephen Eckert joined the team. I have to say a HUGE than you to him for taking the initiative to take this show to places I could not have taken it on my own. Thank you to everyone out there who has listened, comments, submitted questions or just enjoyed!!!
We have made it to the 100th Episode of FroKnowsPhoto RAWtalk. What started as an idea to have a roundtable discussion each week has morphed a few times to get to where it stands today. When it started we did not record video, just audio. But something always told me that audio alone is not enough, we needed to add video. When I started to record video it was done with a static GoPro camera with the audio running into it. The quality was fine but nothing over the top. I wanted better audio, better video and a show that stood out above the other photography podcasts. The missing piece to the puzzle was Stephen Eckert. I knew Stephen had audio skills, so i asked him to help me out with recording each week. Right away he said I should add more camera angles and that he would edit them. Talk about grabbing the balls by the horns, he took initiative. Quickly we added Stephens Photo News where he started at the table then went back off to the side to run the audio. But more and more I would toss questions back his way and he ended up at the table the entire show. And now he is officially part of the show. What Stephen did was make himself indispensable to the show. He didn’t wait for me to give him anything, he simply showed that without him the show wouldn’t be as good. And that’s the reason he is now full time with me. Last but not least I have to thank all of you for sticking with the show. I know it must have been tough at the beginning while I discovered what the show could have been but your questions and support certainly helped. Now together we have something that is real, fun, enjoyable, informative and sometimes over the top. Thank You!!!! PS. I can not forget to thank RODE Microphones for their continued support of the show. We use the RODE Broadcaster microphones each and every week. Atomos, what can I say, they allow us to record our main angle continuously without having to reset the cameras every 20 minutes. We LOVE these little guys and know you will too if you record video. AllensCamera.com: Without your support from day one I would not have been able to get as far as I have. And finally everyone on the Wheel Of Fro for buying into how much fun this little game could be.
We have to start off with a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Stephen Eckert who's birthday was on Thursday. There is a large portion of you guys out there who consider yourself a “Hobbyists”. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a hobbyist who loves photography and may or may not be looking to make some money with their photos. Before the show I put out the call for hobbyists to ask me all the questions on their mind. The response was insane with over 350 questions coming over night. Many of them were very basic and others though basic were pinpointed at a specific topic which is great. There were so many fantastic questions this week that I know will help a lot of you out there. I knew this RAWtalk was going to go overtime but I wanted to make sure I answered as many questions as possible. So sit back, learn and enjoy this 2+ Hour edition of FroKnowsPhoto RAWtalk. What goes into capturing images like it was 1850 all over again? I’ll tell you, a whole lot of knowledge, caustic chemicals and a lot of practice. I had photographer Giles Clement in to the loft this week to talk about his love affair with tintype photography. How he got into it, how he learned what he has learned and his thoughts on the future of the medium. Yes, I asked if it is being ruined by the easy access to everything that is needed to make tintype images. Giles knows his stuff and I asked him to stick around for a 5 Min Portrait using one of his 8x10 view cameras. That video was a lot of fun to make and I can not wait to share it with you. If you would like to contact Giles for his services you can contact him on his Squarespace site http://www.gilesclement.com/ . This week was loaded with a ton of Photo News stories that Mr Stephen Eckert brought to life. There were some interruptions, some singing and a whole lot of fun. Don’t forget I will be heading to Seattle to be on CreativeLIVE to teach a class on Low Light Photography starting Thursday July 10th until July 12th. This is a FREE class as long as you tune in to the live broadcast. While in Seattle we will be attempting our very first Mobile RAWtalk with a LIVE studio audience. I hope you will be able to join my class. I want to thank AllensCamera.com for their continued support, RODE Microphones for the killer audio gear we use, Atomos for our digital recorders and you.
