Buon ascolto! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Buona visione. Created by Zeda the Architect, this event was all about celebrating the vital role that Irish stylists play in shaping, promoting, and advancing the fashion industry while connecting it to the broader design community - often seen as the glue that brings the industry together. The evening consisted of two panel talks, the second moderated by Tech Powered Luxury included Shana Chu, Aoife McNamara, Evan Doherty, Sinead Keenan, Anne O'Shea and Lawson Mpame. What could possibly bring a CEO, a Director, photographer, stylist, producer and designer together? Of course it would have to be a conversation around fashion - the industry that is not quite yet seen as one in Ireland but that's finally starting to make an impact. Just yesterday, two of Ireland's most successful designers - JW Anderson and Simone Rocha - took home two of the biggest prizes at the British Fashion Awards, a testaement to the talent coming from Ireland.

KEY TAKEAWAYS Time is important but energy is just as important. You can have as much time as you want, but if you haven't got the energy to fulfil the time, then how productive are you really being? If you've just had a good workout, you've eaten the right things, you'll walk into work and you can give all of your attention to one thing. You'll be more productive than if you've rolled out of bed and rushed to work. There are two types of business owners. One that will say ‘How can I get as much out of this for as little input as possible', and one that will say ‘How can I constantly improve, and as a by-product of that, I will get more out of it'.Being physically and mentally strong and healthy will always apply to business. In this episode, Joel and Martha discuss the unconventional truths of advertising success. They explore how sometimes the most impactful ad campaigns defy traditional brand guidelines, showing that a raw, unpolished ad can often outperform a meticulously designed one. Learn why grabbing attention is crucial and how the effectiveness of your ad depends more on stopping the scroll than on perfecting your copy. Plus, they discuss the financial side of customer acquisition, emphasising the need to align your ad spend with your business goals.KEY TAKEAWAYS The ‘ugly ad' as a concept does stop scroll.Sometimes an ad that looks sh*t will perform better than an ad that looks ultra-polished because it grabs people's attention. If you can't stop the scroll with your ad, then it doesn't matter how good your copy is because nobody will ever read it.What would you be willing to pay if you could walk into a warehouse and buy your customers off the shelf? Ultimately if the answer is £1,000 and you want 20 new customers that year, you need to find £20,000 for your advertising. In this episode of the Stay Hungry Podcast, Joel is joined by finance expert Ben Knight to explore the realities of wealth and investment. They discuss the emotional pitfalls of chasing wealth, the ongoing nature of investment goals, and the concept of 'silent inflation' that can erode your financial gains. Ben shares his personal journey from modest beginnings to financial expertise, emphasising continuous learning and smart decision-making.KEY TAKEAWAYS People attach so much emotion to the idea of ‘when I'm rich, life will be better', but they don't see that actually it's the effort and the journey that matters. There's no end-point to investment, you reach one goal and then the goal and your lifestyle changes. When you feel like you're winning in business and you've reached that level, you then unlock the next level and so then you're back at the beginning again.Silent inflation is what actually kills people's wealth. Everyone should be investing because if you're not, inflation will wipe you out and you won't even notice it.If you're making a business decision, particularly big businesses, you have to make them about the RPI (Retail Price Index) and no one's telling you that.I didn't start off with a massive bank balance I could start investing with. Instead, I spent an awful lot of time learning something new about money every day. Nearly two decades ago, while swimming in the Aegean Sea, Yasmine encountered a distressing sight: plastic waste clinging to rocks. This observation marked a turning point in her life. Over the years, the situation worsened, with more plastics dumped into the oceans, often with poorer countries being paid by the Western world to accept this waste. This realisation struck a chord with her, especially since she has always had a passion for materials in her roles as a designer and architect. It was then that her interest in sustainable materials took root. She dedicated her time and that of her team to researching and experimenting with recycled materials and various sustainable alternatives from around the globe. Yasmine's ambition is about demonstrating tangible, viable design and architectural solutions that avoid environmentally harmful materials like plastics and concrete, the latter of which accounts for a significant portion of global CO2 emissions.Today, she and her team have amassed a library of over 300 sustainable materials. Gradually, they started incorporating these into their projects, and it's only in recent years that the demand for sustainable options has surged. Yet, the battle against greenwashing persists. Yasmine is committed to demonstrating that sustainable decisions not only benefit the environment but can also enhance financial returns, contrary to common misconceptions. Her mission is to change the way we build by utilising alternative materials that are not only environmentally friendly but also aesthetically pleasing. This journey began with a single, transformative moment in the Aegean Sea, and it has propelled her to advocate for a more sustainable future in design and architecture. This meaningful moment extends beyond her personal realisation and into her broader mission to mobilize others towards sustainability. Her involvement in global discussions on sustainability, such as those at COP28 and during the World Economic Forum, has provided her with a platform to share her experiences and advocate for the adoption of sustainable materials. These talks are an integral part of her effort to not only showcase the environmental benefits of such materials but also to highlight their positive impact on our health. This awakening drove me to explore beyond traditional material research into the realm of 3D printing, specifically with recycled plastics, leading to global recognition and opportunities to exhibit her work at prestigious venues like Design Miami in Basel, the Venice Architecture Biennale, and the London Design Festival.
