Before he was even born, Sarah and Ross Gray knew that their son Thomas wouldn't live long. But as they let go of him, they made a decision that reverberated through a world that they never bothered to think about. Years later, after a couple of awkward phone calls, they go on a quest and manage to meet the people and places for whom Thomas' short life was an altogether different kind of gift. We originally made this story back in 2015, but we wanted to play it again because we love that it brings a view of science that is redemptive, tender, and unexpected. Since we first released this episode, Sarah Gray wrote a book called A Life Everlasting (https://zpr.io/GVYisRaqe9d6), it's a memoir about Thomas that dives into the world of organ donation and medical science. She's also written a beautiful short story about shame called The Lacemaker Fairy Tale (https://zpr.io/Li5BMtfHmf92). And, right now she's working on a script for a movie called Raincheck.EPISODE CREDITS: Reported by - Jad Abumrad with help from - Latif NasserLATERAL CUTS - The Cathedral (https://radiolab.org/podcast/cathedral) The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (https://radiolab.org/podcast/the-immortal-life-of-henrietta-lacks) Signup for our newsletter!! The Bodily Resurrection of Jesus from the dead is the PATTERN of Eternal Life. What has happened to Him WILL happen to us. Therefore, your body isn't a prison from which your soul needs to be set free. You ARE an embodied soul. And Eternal Life is FULL of bodies, moved and animated by God's Spirit. And that Spirit is available to you today to train you for the life you'll always have in eternity. Where do u need Eternal Life in your body today?
REFLECTION QUESTIONS: 1. Why is a bodily resurrection an important doctrine in the Christian faith? How should this doctrine impact the way we think about life, death, and eternity?2. When you think about our transformed bodies, what first comes to your mind? Why is it important to remember that we will be free from the presence and effects of sin?3. Even though death hasn't yet been swallowed up in victory, the sting of death has been removed. How have you experienced comfort because of our victory over death? How can you help comfort others in the face of death?4. How can the reality of the resurrection encourage you to be steadfast, immovable, and always abounding in the work of the Lord? What does it look like for you to apply verse 58 in your life this week?

We close our Apostles' Creed series with the final line: “the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting.”Preaching from Romans 8:18–39, Tim Beilharz tackles some common myths about eternity — that our bodies are just cages for our souls, that we'll float on clouds forever, or that we're just “passing through” this world. Instead, Scripture shows us God's plan for resurrection, renewal, and eternal life in a redeemed creation.Nothing can separate us from this hope in Jesus.

Throughout history, humans have sought immortality, but only God can truly conquer death through Jesus Christ. The Christian belief in bodily resurrection affirms that God created our physical bodies as good and worthy of respect. This stands in contrast to philosophies that view the body as worthless, leading to destructive behaviors. Scripture consistently portrays burial as an act of faith and hope, using the metaphor of a seed planted that will grow into something greater. Our belief in resurrection should impact how we treat our bodies in life and how we approach death, living with the confident hope that through Christ, we will be raised with glorious bodies.

If he didn't our Good News isn't very good.3) Our bodies are buried in brokenness - marred by the residue of sin, but they will be raised to life as whole & complete images of God's good design. The Life Everlasting is coming when we will be with God forever, experiencing the beauty of his good design for the earth & humanity.

Together, with Fr. Mike, we explore what happens to us at and after the moment of our death. We examine the importance of understanding that the Christian, who unites his death with Christ Jesus, takes a step towards Christ in everlasting life. Fr. Mike emphasizes that we have an active choice in our journey to our Father in heaven. We should not simply desire Heaven, but actively choose it. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 1020-1029. Today's Topics: 1) Gospel - Mt13:47-53 - Jesus said to the disciples: “The Kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind. When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away. Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.” “Do you understand all these things?” They answered, “Yes.” And He replied, “Then every scribe who has been instructed in the Kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.” When Jesus finished these parables, He went away from there.
