It features Rory Culkin, Robert Sheehan (Umbrella Academy), & Mary Beth Peil. His first feature film, air-drum cult comedy Adventures of Power, was called "One of the funniest films in recent years" by NY Magazine, and features Jane Lynch, Michael McKean, Nick Kroll, and Adrian Grenier. Ari has a dozen other film & TV projects in various stages of development, and also hosts a podcast about drumming called HotSticks, featuring some of the biggest rock stars on the planet. Ari's most unusual distinctions include a High Times Magazine "Stoner of the Year" award (for his performance as a drug dealer in the rave film Groove), and a Guinness World Record for commanding the largest air-drum ensemble on earth. Brothers Ari and Ethan Gold tackled the coming-of-age story, 'The Song of Sway Lake,' as a writer-director and composer. The film can be described as, “Music collector Ollie Sway recruits his only friend, a rowdy Russian drifter, to help him steal a 78 record from his own family's estate.” Both brothers are interested in music and filmmaking. Ethan, the composer, has directed music videos. Ari, the writer-director, has been in various bands and created music. Together, the focus is always on story and “rowing in the same direction.” In this interview, the duo discusses tapping into shared emotional experiences, real life inspirations for character, composing based on theme, the benefits and risks of working with siblings, how disagreements can lead to elevation, how to dig into yourself, and the truth about their friend Adrian Grenier and the character Ari Gold on 'Entourage.' Welcome to the absolute best podcast we've ever recorded.... ooooh chinny reckon. Chinny. Reck. Kon. Oooh Jimmy Hill chinny reckon. Chinnnnny. Ok, ok. No, it's probably not the best podcast we've ever recorded, but it was still a lot of fun as hosts Steve Norman and Owen Hughes chat Korean revenge thrills in The Villainess with Paul Field, as well as trying to work out whether Darren Aronofsky's mother! was pretentious tosh, or if that is even a bad thing at all. The pod kicks off with one of Paul's famed Amazon Review quizzes before the trio run through a few notable winners from last weekend's Emmy awards. Steve finally watches Dangerous Game, the so-called "worst football film ever made" according to The Independent, whilst Owen struggles through a review of indie drama The Song of Sway Lake due to losing all his notes minutes before recording; and Paul discovers Australian horror Killing Ground. We'll be back again next week to review Kingsman: The Golden Circle. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
