Two years after setting the box office ablaze with Kingsman The Secret Service, director Matthew Vaughn was back with Kingsman The Golden Circle. This time, he had a couple more Oscar winners (Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore) cast, as well as a certain flamboyant singer. So given he had everything he wanted at his disposal this time, it would seem Vaughn had successfully made his ‘Empire Strikes Back'. Or did he? Join Matt, Garrett, and Adam as they dissect a film whose script Vaughn has proclaimed to be the hardest he's ever written. While the box office would say audiences still flocked to his zaniness, how do our podcast hosts feel about it? After all, Garrett is watching The Golden Circle for the very first time, while the two others had theatrical experiences associated with it. And be sure to come back next week, as The Three Men and a Retrospective Podcast continue this leg of Marvel by reviewing the Matthew Vaughn directed prequel, 2021's The King's Man.

After taking on Kick Ass and proving his worth with X-Men First Class, it would seem director Matthew Vaughn was primed for a career directing Marvel properties. But for reasons that are still unclear, Vaughn left X-Men Days of Future Past, and reunited with writer Mark Millar to come up with their own comic book called Kingsman. Before long, Vaughn had another property to take on and in 2015, he directed and released the feature (now) comic book film Kingsman: The Secret Service. Join Matt, Garrett, and Adam as they look at the film which has almost zero stars, yet grossed over $400 million and spawned a certified franchise. What do they feel about it, specifically Samuel L Jackson as main villain Valentine? This, and many more questions are answered in the podcast below. And come back next week as the boys continue their look at miscellaneous Marvel properties by reviewing the Kingsman sequel, 2017's Kingsman The Golden Circle.

Phillips has a long-standing relationship with Madonna, with collaborations including photo shoots, music videos and designing tour costumes for six world tours over the past two decades. She has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design three times, for James Mangold's Walk the Line (2005), Madonna's directorial debut, W.E. (2011), and for Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019). Phillips has also received a two BAFTA Award nominations for Tom Ford's A Single Man (2009) and Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Her film career also includes Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals (2016), Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) and Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017), James Mangold's Girl, Interrupted (1999) and 3:10 to Yuma (2007), John Cameron Mitchell's Hedwig And the Angry Inch (2001), Mark Romanek's One Hour Photo(2002), and Milos Forman's The People Vs. Larry Flynt (1996). In between film and music projects, Phillips works as a freelance fashion editor and stylist, collaborating with photographers for publications such as Italian Vogue, V Magazine, Harper's Bazaar, German & Spanish Vogueand W Magazine. She continuously challenges herself by taking on projects that explore new expressions of her creativity. In 2018, she made her New York City Metropolitan opera debut, designing Nico Muhly's opera, Marnie. Miuccia Prada selected Phillips for her Iconoclasts project; to curate installations for the brands flagship stores in London and Beijing which included a short fashion film for the brand, which Phillips wrote and directed, called Passages. Her friend Alessandro Michele, Creative Director of GUCCI commissioned her to create content for a special issue of A Magazine he guest edited and to style a brand film directed by Gia Coppola. She has also collaborated on special projects with Van Cleef and Arpels, Cartier, Valentino and Swarovski. Phillips was an inaugural member of the TIMES UP coalition and was asked by Reese Witherspoon to design its logo. Lawrence Sher, ASC,is an American cinematographer and film director, best known for comedy films such as Garden State, The Dictator, and The Hangover series, frequently collaborating with directors Todd Phillips and Zach Braff.[ He made his directorial debut with Father Figures, which began a wide theatrical release on December 22, 2017, by Warner Bros. Pictures. He was nominated for an Academy Award and BAFTA Award for Best Cinematography for the 2019 film Joker, directed by Phillips. As cinematographer of the 2009 film The Hangover, Sher described how a scene early in the movie shows the main characters on the roof of their hotel overlooking a stereotypical shot of the Las Vegas Strip; Sher indicated that he had tried to evoke the behind-the-scenes Vegas—after the characters wake up the following morning—by shooting a scene behind the hotels where the real action takes place. Actor Bradley Cooper credited Sher's visual style with enhancing the film's comedy, noting how Sher has "a great eye, a lot of energy and he just knows what's funny" and that "Some guys just can't shoot comedies, but Larry knows exactly what he's doing." With the success of Zach Braff's Kickstarter, Sher worked on Braff's 2014 feature, Wish I Was Here. In January 2020, Sher was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for his work on the movie Joker, but lost to Roger Deakins for 1917.

Rick English talks KINGSMAN stunts with Dan and Tom on their show Cracking the Code of Spy Movies.  Rick is the award-winning stunt performer who doubled Colin Firth in the first two KINGSMAN movies.  He's been doing stunts in movies for over 23 years.  RICK'S ROLE AS A DOUBLE So, what is it like to double a star? How much of the stunt work did Colin Firth do, versus Rick? Was Rick hurt doing any of the stunts?  What is the role of wirework in his scenes? How many cuts did the church fight scene take? What is it like to jump out a window ahead of an explosion? How did they get the character Whiskey into the meat grinder in KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE? Finally, what is an antitragus? Rick talks about these issues while focusing on the church fight and the bar fight (manners maketh man) in KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE. HOW TECHNOLOGY IS CHANGING THE GAME We also discuss how new facial recognition and replacement technologies popped up on the market just before this movie was made.  That meant that the way he had to film these scenes was different than he'd experienced in the past.  Listen to find out how. It is fascinating to hear how technology is changing the filming of stunts. Plus, Tom talks about how watching the church fight scene frame-by-frame helped him to identify some of the places where facial replacement was used.  Don't worry, we don't go through it frame-by-frame here. But, once you listen, if you watch that scene, you may be able to pick up a few of these replacements as well. This episode helps the moviegoer understand the role of the stunt performer and how they are used. Rick explains some of the techniques they used for some of the specific stunts. And why is he fighting the Russian oligarchy...in Russia? Those that were young adults when they saw the original are now middle-aged and their children are all grown up. This fourth sequel taps into parent-child dynamics, but apparently, there weren't any parents reminiscing over the series with their adult children. Opening to abysmal reviews and scoring terrible with audiences and critics, Mother Russia may be the one to take out McClane once and for all. People keep asking me what the podcast is ABOUT? In truth there are a lot of answers to that. There's rants on tv and film, bitch-sessions about things in our society we do or don't like, sometimes we get a bit political and we are always making fun of something. To say we like to tangent from each topic would be a gross understatement. We also have lots of guests and yes they are mostly artists, musicians, actors, singers, writers, dancers, producers and the occasional small business person and always someone whom you would otherwise never hear, see or get a chance enjoy. In short we strive to be the source for a peak into the Unknown Artist. After that, Coop&Myan are living characters themselves, they are the heart and soul in the fabric that makes up the body of Unofficial. How do we condense that and package it into the quintessential “Log Line?” It's a Show about Anything. Today's Anything happens to start out with maybe the least important thing ever created… the meme-video of Trump as Colin Firth on a mass-murdering-rampage of political/media opponents in a scene reappropriated from the movie Kingsman: The Golden Circle. What could be more pointless. Thankfully Coop&Myan break down just how bizarre our society is as this example of fictionalized, glorified slaughter by an unwavering, narcissistic, wannabe dictator-in-chief, truly illustrates a major series of modern problems we are all forced to relate to, mostly perpetuated by our Hollywood themed, gun-loving, corporate-corrupted, pay-to-play political, drug-fueled American Empire. And of course, we consumers who eat it up with our minimum wage dollars. We have the craziest show on Earth and every one of us has a front row seat right in our pockets. It's sick. And we love/hate it. As long as that's the situation our human condition, collectively finds us in, Unofficial will try to stare deeply into the black mirror and disect what we can as best we can, while still having as much fun as possible. So subscribe to Unofficial and tell your friends because Coop&Myan are carving their inimitable niche and need your support to continue to grow. It's a Show about Anything
