“Storm Coming” The LA.-based artist, producer and composer Ethan Gold's debut album Songs From A Toxic Apartment left his fans wanting more and more is exactly what they're getting. Gold will be releasing a trilogy of albums that will surely make his longtime fans very pleased and it will also bring him scores of new ones in the process. The first in the trilogy is Earth City 1: The Longing and it's a stunner. A meditation on isolation and loneliness in a seemingly deeply connected digital world and feeling like an outsider while being on the inside, Earth City 1 is a moving and heartfelt glimpse of modern life and how it engenders alienation. A sly pop craftsman, Gold's music is warm, heartfelt and comforting, even when he's exploring themes that break us all apart. Over the course of his career, Gold has produced and arranged for Elvis Perkins, composed film scores which featured John Grant and Staves and in the process crafted some of the most unforgettable pop songs around. In this conversation Gold talks to Alex about the past and the future, Leonard Cohen and the freedom of performing poetry onstage. www.ethangold.com www.bombshellradio.com www.alexgreenonline.com Twitter: @emberseditor Instagram: @emberspodcast EMAIL: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

Threeway custody begins with Lindsay, Melanie and Michael splitting baby JR three ways. Brian tries to lure Michael out of suburbia and back to Babylon by throwing a super heroes themed night at Babylon. In another story ripped from the headlines, HIV positive Hunter bashes his head at his swim meet and Callie’s parents cause chaos by screaming out that he has AIDS. Debbie begins her life of leisure after retiring from the diner, only to find herself right back in the diner to solve Loretta’s problem with her husband. Oh, and Ted has plastic surgery finally.  “Hard Decisions” was directed by Kelly Makin, one of my favorite Queer as Folk directors. This is his ninth of eleven episodes. I think my favorite Kelly Makin episode was season three’s “There’s Nothing Noble about Being Poor.”  That was an Ethan Gold episode. It first aired in the US on Jun 5th, 2005. It was written by Michael MacLennan, his 12th of 14 episodes. Most recently he wrote season four’s “The Snake in Paradise.” That was the bug chaser episode.

Ethan Gold is a prolific songwriter, producer, composer and performer. Pitbull’s tagline is “Don’t stop the party.” Ethan Gold’s tagline is “Making sensitivity cool again.” His dad is the Beat-adjunct writer and novelist Herbert Gold. his mother Melissa was killed in a helicopter crash along with legendary rock promoter Bill Graham. As he tells it, he grew up in San Francisco during the harsh period that followed the summer of love and his experience growing up during those dystopian times informs much of his work. I met Ethan in the early 2000’s through mutual friends. I was working as a journalist in LA and he was living in an apartment across the street from my girlfriend at the time and working on music. Turns out he was working on what would later become the critically-acclaimed art-rock album Songs From a Toxic Apartment. He played everything on the album and produced it himself. Since those days, I’ve mainly stayed in touch with Ethan through his awesome newsletter, which you can sign up for here.  He has kept woodshedding and putting out music and soundtracks for films that I love. I’ve always admired his persistence, his dedication to his craft and his steadfast commitment to pursuing his creative vision. What I didn’t know was that a few years ago, Ethan had a very serious head injury that took away almost everything that was normal about his life. He had to relearn how to do things we all take for granted and that experience ultimately taught him a new way of being.  Catch Ethan everywhere @ethangold and at www.ethangold.com. Like Tool, he has recently released his digital catalogue on Spotify, so be sure to go give his work a listen and hit subscribe. It’s awesome. And if you’re lucky, catch him playing somewhere in person.  If you enjoy this episode, please share it with a pal and take a second to subscribe and rate the show on iTunes or wherever you listen. Brothers Ari and Ethan Gold tackled the coming-of-age story, 'The Song of Sway Lake,' as a writer-director and composer. The film can be described as, “Music collector Ollie Sway recruits his only friend, a rowdy Russian drifter, to help him steal a 78 record from his own family's estate.” Both brothers are interested in music and filmmaking. Ethan, the composer, has directed music videos. Ari, the writer-director, has been in various bands and created music. Together, the focus is always on story and “rowing in the same direction.” In this interview, the duo discusses tapping into shared emotional experiences, real life inspirations for character, composing based on theme, the benefits and risks of working with siblings, how disagreements can lead to elevation, how to dig into yourself, and the truth about their friend Adrian Grenier and the character Ari Gold on 'Entourage.'
