The gang begins their Trey Parker and Matt Stone trilogy! They start out with the biggest of all, South Park! South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut is a 1999 American adult computer-animated musical comedy film based on the animated sitcom South Park. The film was directed by series creator Trey Parker from a screenplay co-written with series co-creator Matt Stone and Pam Brady; and stars Parker, Stone, Mary Kay Bergman, and Isaac Hayes, all of whom reprise their roles from the series, with George Clooney, Eric Idle, and Mike Judge in supporting roles. The plot follows Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny as they sneak into an R-rated film starring the Canadian comedy duo Terrance and Phillip, after which they begin swearing. When the consequent moral panic culminates in the United States declaring war on Canada, Stan, Kyle and Cartman take it upon themselves to save Terrance and Phillip from execution, while Kenny tries to prevent a prophecy involving Satan and Saddam Hussein's intent to conquer the world. South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut premiered at Grauman's Chinese Theater on June 23, 1999, and was released theatrically in the US and Canada the following week by Paramount Pictures, with Warner Bros. handling international distribution. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its story, soundtrack, humor and themes. Produced on a $21 million budget, it grossed $83.1 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing R-rated animated film until 2016. At the 72nd Academy Awards, the song "Blame Canada" was nominated for Best Original Song, but lost to Phil Collins' "You'll Be in My Heart" from Tarzan.

Ashley Ellerin bid farewell to her father at Los Angeles International Airport in February 2001. That evening, the eye-catching 22-year-old fashion student had plans with handsome young Hollywood actor, Ashton Kutcher. The pair were headed to a Grammy Awards after-party at a popular nightclub on the Sunset Strip in LA. Kutcher, then 23, pulled up to Ashley's bungalow behind Grauman's Chinese Theater around 10:45 PM on February 21, 2001 nearly three hours behind schedule. He knocked on Ashley's front door. When she didn't appear, Ashton knocked again. A call to Ashley's phone went to voicemail. He tried the door handle, but found it locked. Guessing she might be punishing him for being so late, the former Calvin Klein model peered through the window. The lights were on but there was no sign of Ashley, only what he believed to be the remnants of a spilt glass of red wine from a party she'd hosted the night before. Only later would Ashton learn the red streak wasn't wine …it was Ashley Ellerin's blood. Confused and disappointed, Kutcher retreated to his car and headed out under the glow of the Hollywood sign. Not long before Ashton arrived to pick up his date, a serial killer, later dubbed the Hollywood Ripper, had also arrived at Ashley's home. Little did Ashton know, he'd been cast in a role he never expected nor wanted …an eyewitness to murder.  Follow Jami on Instagram & TikTok @JamiOnAir and join the Serial Streamers true crime TV club! Xiaomei Chen's book Performing the Socialist State: Modern Chinese Theater and Film Culture (Columbia UP, 2023) looks at three "founding fathers" of Chinese spoken drama: Tian Han, Hong Shen, and Ouyang Yuqian. Dr. Chen argues that these three theatre artists laid the groundwork for Mao-era Chinese drama during the earlier Republic period, and that there is more continuity between the two periods than has typically been supposed. She also argues that these artists were not mere victims of heavy-handed political ideologues, but were passionate and sophisticated political thinkers in their own right. By telling the stories of these three figures and their effect on later Chinese drama, Dr. Chen helps us understand why the performing arts have such notable political consequence in the history of 20th century China. Of course, I'm not an actor. I'm a priest. But Nicholson had a profound influence on my life. I mean, I was a good little fundamentalist Christian, so his fast-living reputation was not really for me growing up. But he had this way about him that just bowled me over. He seemed always to be utterly himself in whatever he did - even while convincingly playing fantastic characters. He was the Joker, or McMurphy, or J.J. Gittes, or Col. Jessup, or Melvin Udall, but at the same time he was Jack! And I loved that. When I was in college, my buddy Wes and I visited Hollywood and made our film lover's pilgrimage to Grauman's Chinese Theater. This is the spot where many famous actors have put their hand and foot prints into the cement. I got down on my knees in front of Jack's signature and placed my hands in his handprints. They fit perfectly. Wes' hands fit in James Stewart's. We floated away. It's a strange thing to call someone your inspiration when you haven't actually followed in their footsteps. A few years back I was at a concert and I ran into a comedian named Emo Phillips. He is not terribly famous, but when I was younger I had seen a stand-up special of his that was so absurd and outlandish that it had turned my idea of comedy upside down. I walked up to him that night and introduced myself. He was very gracious. I told him that he had been a big inspiration to me growing up. "Is that so?" he asked, "what do you do?" I said I was a priest, and without missing a beat he said, "Well obviously."

On this episode the Founder of Cathartic Realism Films Claire Chubbuck stops by to share her amazing story of how to turn Tragedy into Purpose. Claire shares some of the unique projects she's working on and her views on the Metaverse. Don't miss this special episode.  Who is Claire Chubbuck? Claire Chubbuck is an emerging female director that creates mission driven content that creates catharsis for those working on it - she calls it “Cathartic Realism”. Cathartic Realism is a genre where artists tell the story of their personal traumas to find healing through catharsis. A take on the “true story” trope, this genre allows artists to depict their truths - the way it felt to them, but with an ending where you win for the purpose of cathartic release. The only way we can let it go is to feel it. She works with actors to use the traumatic events in their lives to make art. Born in Los Angeles, California, Claire Chubbuck is the daughter of internationally celebrated acting coach, Ivana Chubbuck, and award-winning director/producer, the late Lyndon Chubbuck.  After going to Scripps College in 2007 for Economics, she graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with honors (recipient of the Founders Award) and a BFA in Filmmaking in 2012. Straight out of the gate she worked at AMC Networks as a Programming and Scheduling executive. While working there, Claire began creating short form content for SundanceTV's International channels that was broadcast worldwide.  In 2013, Claire worked as a producer on “Pussy Riot: The Movement”, the first comprehensive film that tells the full story - from arrest through release from prison and beyond - of the remarkable women who defied a strongman, survived Russian prisons and rallied the world behind them. The documentary also examines the perversion of the Russian Constitution by ex-KGB officer and President Vladimir Putin. In 2014, Claire moved to Participant Media, whose films include Good Night, and Good Luck, Syriana, An Inconvenient Truth, Food, Inc., Waiting for ‘Superman', The Help, Contagion and Lincoln. There she worked to launch a linear television network, Pivot.  In 2015, Claire found her fiancé dead of tragic circumstances and, in one second, everything changed. Since then, she has been trying to help other people find an explanation for their traumas - enough to move forward without shame - with a unique community of artists that want to create. She found this community when she began teaching at Ivana Chubbuck Studios. As a teacher, she has found great pleasure in being part of inspiring others, many to great success. After spending time teaching, Claire reemerged with a new directorial debut in 2019 with ‘how I lost my virginity', a short film detailing her best friend's real-life experience of kidnapping and rape - intended to provide catharsis while looking at the systematic problem that allow for the victims of sexual assault to far outweigh the perpetrators.  In 2020, “how I lost my virginity” won over 17 awards and was shown at several high-profile film festivals including Beverly Hills Film Festival, Chain Film Festival, Santa Monica International Film Festival, SF Indie Fest, Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival, Marina del Rey Film Festival, among others. Claire personally won “Best Direction” at the Best Shorts Competition in addition “Best First Time Director” at Canadian Cinematography Awards, New York Cinematography Awards (NYCA), and Top Shorts Awards. The first theatrical showing of the short was at Marina del Rey Film Festival, where the short won the Audience Award for “Best Short”.  During the quarantine of 2021, Claire made an experimental film called (Corona) Viral Monologues, which had it's theatrical premiere at the Chinese Theater as part of the Silicon Beach Film Festival, where we were awarded the Audience Award for Best Narrative Short. This hour long special won “Best Artistic Film” at the Atlanta Award-Qualifying Film Festival 2022, “Best Narrative” at the Washington Film Festival, was a semi-finalist for “Best Ensemble” and “Best Experimental Film” at the Los Angeles Film Awards, and was an official selection for the Global Indie Film Awards. Claire also won Vegas Movie Award's Prestige Award for “Best Female Filmmaker” for this film. Claire currently has 2 short films in post-production, 2 short films in pre-production, and a feature film in development. Inspired by Danielle's recent trip to Rhode Island, she discusses Adam Emery. After faking his death in the 1990's, he is still a wanted man. He shocked all who knew him after killing a man who he thought damaged his car. Adam later discovered that it was a different person entirely who hit his car. The last known sighting of Adam was when he and his wife Elena stood together on the Newport Bridge. Their car was found abandoned with the engine still running. Elena's remains were discovered six months later in Narragansett Bay. It remains unknown whether Adam is still alive. The Grauman's Chinese Theater opened in 1927, it was initially built to host the premiere of Cecil B Demille film called " The King of Kings." It is located on the northeast corner of Hollywood Blvd and Orange Drive, and is one of the if not the most recognizable buildings in Hollywood today. Although it is known for the Hollywood walk of fame and can be easily recognized by its carved pagoda towers and two stone lions guarding the front entrance, this incredible sight also has its secrets. Stories have been told of hearing mysterious sounds and seeing a little girl ghost by the name of Annabelle walking around backstage. This theater has seen its share of triumphs and tragedies.

Maria is a writer, director, and producer of the feature film Bring Me An Avocado on Amazon Prime. She also just premiered her short film, La Macana at the Chinese Theater in LA. In addition to her great work, Maria is a very cool, very humble filmmaker. I learned a lot from her just in this lil hour conversation. Give this episode a listen, like, follow, subscribe, say something nice on Twitter/Instagram and remember to tag us, @SocialWriterPod! For over five decades, it has been so much more than a vacation destination, but has become a living storybook wherein we find ourselves at the center of the tale.  Inside every chapter is an epic journey portending to unfold. On every page we find an invitation embossed with each of our names, inviting us to chart a course for adventure. A magic carpet ride, perhaps, or aboard a pirate ship bound for Neverland…oh, the wondrous places we'll go!  All around us, we encounter intricacy and intentionality in every moment - a testament to the innovative minds who have brought these stories to life, spurred on by their sovereign ethos that it's kind of fun to create the impossible. Here, the philosophy is this: that the only thing standing in the way of your dreams becoming your reality is your own imagination.  Today, we invite you to set that imagination free and come along with us as we carry our dreams to new heights. Climb aboard your very own chariot in the clouds and be Here With the Magic - we're taking to the skies and setting sail aboard the Disney Skyliner! Rising high above the waterways and pavilions of EPCOT's World Showcase, our journey begins with a peek into the romantic courtyards and elegant gardens of beautiful France. Soaring over the world-renowned Gusteau's, we can almost smell the fluffy, sugar-dusted crêpes and nutty fromage wafting from Chef Remy's kitchen.  Up, up, and away we go, waving a wistful “Au Revoir” to charming Paris. After a quick little jaunt above the pastel whimsy and swinging ragtime of the Boardwalk, we find ourselves at once in the heart of Walt Disney World. From way up Here, we can spot the temples and clocktowers of World Showcase gliding past alongside our gondola, a curious collection of international treasures reaching toward the heavens. The geodesic shell of Spaceship Earth glints in the bright sunlight, striking and futuristic against its more historic counterparts at EPCOT Center.  (7:05) In the distance, a majestic kingdom looms larger and larger as we approach, stunning and regal against a brilliant blue sky. Disney's Riviera Resort, a celebration of the azure coasts of Italy and the opulence of the South of France, this European seaside retreat is a feast for the senses and a joy to discover.  Lavish with luxury and an escape into our most rose-colored wanderlust daydreams, the sparkling lagoon and wrought-iron balconies that surround this place are breathtaking to behold. And although we're just passing through, our excitement for what other wonders we might encounter as we continue on our journey blooms with every second.   (8:47) Onward we sail, ascending skyward once again. This time, we're trading in the opulence of the Riviera for the laid-back vibes of the Caribbean. Nestled in a lush, tropical wilderness and bordered by silken, white-sand beaches, the quaint island hideaway of Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort burst with vibrant color and vivid life.  Here, each charming village is enrobed in shades of turquoise and aquamarine, coral and sunshine yellow. The steel drum sounds of the tropics and the easy, breezy atmosphere seem to enliven our spirit even as we drift above - a quiet moment of joy above the sweet serenity of our own Caribbean oasis.  While we could happily prolong this island interlude, our Skyliner convoy has landed in the Hub, where we are promptly whisked away once again to new, fantastic points of view. This time, we're headed along Hourglass Lake on a grand circle tour of some larger-than-life childhood memories to inspire nostalgia for all ages.  (10:31) At Disney's Pop Century Resort, the sock hops and Walkmans which brought music and laughter to each distinctive decade are preserved in a living time capsule. An escape to a simpler time, the retro feel and novelty shapes and colors make this an unforgettable place to discover. Every moment Here exudes reminiscence and fun; a chance to experience the joys of generations and find Magic in the fabric of our yesterdays.  And as we sail through time, back to yesteryear, we find our gaze wandering across the lake to Disney's Art of Animation Resort. Here, we find concept art and sketches from some of our favorite Disney stories practically springing off the page. From the Pridelands and Route 66 to a plunge Fathoms Below into the Big, Blue World of Nemo, Ariel, and all those beloved Under the Sea friends, this is a place that captivates the young and the young at heart, bringing fairytales and adventures to life in truly spectacular ways. Humming a Hakuna Matata tune all the way, we bid a fond farewell to our redolent memories and allow our escort to return us to the hustle and bustle of the Skyliner terminal, but only for a moment. Once again we careen into the clouds aboard our airborne carriage, this time heading for all the glitz and glamour of Tinseltown and the gleaming black spires of Galaxy's Edge.  (17:00) Away we go, into the blissful blue and off toward the marquees and marvels of the golden age of Hollywood.  Sound stages scattered across film lots and the ornate exterior of the incomparable Chinese Theater are visible just ahead, and the shadowy outline of the Hollywood Tower Hotel looms at the end of Sunset Boulevard, intriguing and foreboding in equal measure. Although our excursion into this bustling young movie town is a brief and round trip affair, the exhilarating energy of this place is palpable even from the sky. A glimpse into the Hollywoodland of Walt's early career, there is joy and anticipation wrapped in each and every moment.  (22:05) Still, we've got one final leg of our journey to complete, and our cortège is already gliding back into the station once again before we are revived from our Golden State reverie. Soon we find ourselves yet again greeted by the postcard panorama of the Riviera, picturesque and perfect as we left it before.  Before we know it, the tapered zenith of the Tour de Eiffel is growing larger as we descend into the International Gateway, bringing our Skyliner journey at an end at last. Where we'll go from Here, well, that's a story that is still unwritten. Whether we soar through the skies or sail along crystalline waters or let our own two feet lead the way, there is unlimited Magic for those willing to make the journey. Each step is one in the right direction where imagination is our guide and joy is our companion.  It is the journey, after all, and not the destination, which fill the pages of the most magnificent stories. From tales of travel to faraway lands to gambles down rabbit holes and into the wonderland of our cherished memories, it is that first spark of inspiration which leads us down new paths, intuition mingling with curiosity and leading us into a world of Magic that we can return to time and time again.  It is the journey that evokes the most powerful memories. Being Here, surrounded in the skies by invigorating joy, we feel emboldened to say yes to new adventures, to keep moving forward. Onward, ever onward, we know that each and every moment will be filled with wonder, with sights and sounds and stories to lift us up when we feel low, and with Magic to bring us to our happiest places whenever we summon the spirit of our imagination and take to the skies.
