We are so grateful to be the conduit of wisdom and to share these guests with you. Here's to a bountiful New Year for all! Podcast 139: Talbot Cox of Talbot Cox Media Talbot Cox is in the slipstream of his creation and knows there is no other direction to move than forward. He has faced adversity and triumphed. He has seen how fast life-savings can dwindle and how quickly a financial situation can turn into debt. Following his passion full-gas has also caused a major disruption in the norm of sports media and with that, many people are not supporters of his mission but this has not stopped him. His intention is not to upset. His intention is not to hoard the knowledge that has afforded him exceptional success in a short period of time. Talbot is very clear on his intention and that is to grow a sport that he holds very close to his heart and create abundance for as many involved as possible along the way. Podcast 151: Tom Voss, The Meditating Vet In 2004, 20-year-old Tom Voss was deployed to Mosul, Iraq to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was a part of a scout sniper platoon which meant that many days it was Tom’s job to run towards gunfire as he gathered intel for military operations. He never expected to return home alive and early on in his deployment he surrendered his resistance to death. Tom endured relentless exposure to violence and sustained what he calls, moral injury. He was diagnosed and treated for PTSD with pharmaceutical drugs that quieted his symptoms but not his deep moral wounds. He knew he needed to begin processing the deep pain and grief that could not be medicated away. Podcast 159: Magda Boulet of GU Energy Magda is Vice President of Innovation, Research, and Development at GU and it all started many years ago when she knocked on the door and asked for help. At the time, Magda was a roadrunner looking to up her game and she knew that sports nutrition was an important piece for her to learn. Never did Magda think that day, that she would also someday become an ultramarathoner and a GU executive. Kristin Kirkpatrick, MS, RD, LD is the lead dietitian and manager of wellness nutrition services at the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute in Cleveland Ohio. She is a best selling author, an experienced presenter and an award winning dietitian. Kristin is asking the question, “How are you fueling?” everywhere she goes, in fact you've probably seen her on the Today Show or The Dr. Oz Show asking this very question. Today Kristin joins us on Heath Gig. Kristin admits, though there is a lot of knowledge within her patient base, many of them don’t look at the practicality of nutrition choices in their lifestyle or their own unique genetics. What works for someone might not work for you. She breaks down different diets including mediterranean, low fat, high fat, dash, ketogenic and vegan. Time restricted eating, or reducing the hours of eating to eight to ten hours is helpful. She also believes that unhealthy eating habits often arise from mental issues and stress which must be addressed. In this podcast you will learn the difference between polyunsaturated fats, trans fats, saturated fats, and monounsaturated fats. You will also understand why carbs which are mixed with fiber reduce your net carbs and why BMI and scales are overrated. Join us in this episode for a deep dive into nutrition. Today Kristin is going in on why we need to de-center whiteness and heteropatriarchy to thrive in our Blackness. There are many layers to de-centering from the more obvious whose gaze are you looking for? To the less obvious deconstructing and decolonizing of concepts and sneakily oppressive ideas you’ve been taught to live by. We touch on everything from decentering whiteness in our creative work, to Law of Attraction, to the whole concept of “masculine-feminine energy” that so many have adopted. This episode will show you how to get more discerning about how you think and approach the world so you can de-center whiteness (and white supremacy) and expand your work, your impact, and your personal power as a Black person. Kristin Mayer started her morning on a seemingly ordinary Monday utterly unaware that her life was about to change forever. Married for over a decade, she knew it wasn't perfect, but she was in it for the long haul, especially since she and her husband were raising a son together. By all accounts, they were a family and a family they would remain. At 1 pm that afternoon, Kristin's husband confessed that he was no longer happy and no longer committed to sharing his life with her. So many questions flooded in. Fear, sadness, and shock took her over. In those moments, Kristin experienced everything that one could imagine when their life turns upside down. What would she do? How would she raise her son? Pay the mortgage? Move on? Heal? Ever love again? One day at a time and on many days, one moment at a time she rebuilt herself and discovered strength she didn't realize she possessed. Today Kristin finds herself at the top of one of the most recognizable brands in endurance sports and living an active and more love-filled life than ever before. In this episode, we dive into the details Kristin's story and the great community of Betty Designs that was born from this life-changing experience. This podcast was a long time coming, and we are so grateful that once again, perfect timing showed up. Today Kristin visits with another kindred spirit in the “gathering well” tribe--Amy Hannon. After almost 13 years as a wedding stationer, Amy pursued her dream of opening a kitchen boutique in her community. Amy shares about her new venture, and the namesake of the enterprise--her grandmother Euna Mae--and the unique legacy she created around gatherings that left a lifetime imprint on Amy. She and Kristin also discuss the difference between “hospitality” and “entertaining” and encourage us to never shy away from get-togethers because of a crazy season of life we may be facing. They both admit that they are chronic non bed-makers, and are totally okay with just shutting the door when they have company. Together, they implore us that we don’t have to the perfect hostesses, cooks, entertainers, housekeepers--or whatever other ideals we’re trying to live up to--to have people over to our homes. Kristin’s Kitchen segment features a recipe from Amy’s new book, Love Welcome Serve: Recipes that Gather and Give. ---------------------------------------------- Show Sponsor: Shipt: Grocery Delivery Amy Hannon: www.EunaMaes.com Amy Hannon's cookbook, "Love Welcome Serve: Recipes that Gather and Give"
