Aurora Leon-Conde, along with her partner Joaquin, joined Jess and BJ to debrief her recent finish of the Tahoe 200. The journey was not without massive resistance, all of which Aurora overcame in the end using the power of her mind. Aurora is a pillar of strength and a long-time member of Team YogiTriathlete. She has completed many epic feats throughout the year and serves as a leader in the YT Community for doing hard things with grace. Aurora discovered running while studying medicine in New York, eventually leading her to run the NYC marathon in 2011. Through endurance sports, she realized that she was capable of accessing parts of her mind that were dormant in regular life. She became fascinated by this and started running longer distances to see what else she could access. Her most recent endeavor, and the catalyst for finally having her on the show, was her successful finish of the Tahoe 200. There is so much more that this woman has accomplished, and her list of future accolades continues to grow. We hope that she inspires you as much as she inspires us. We're fired up to have ultrarunner Jake Jackson with us for this episode following his maiden voyage of Cocodona 250, although, in the weeks following, Jake was already on the top of the podium at the Nanny Goat 12-hour and at the time of this recording, days away from the San Diego 100. Jake is a dad of three, husband, full-time professional with UPS, and former smoker-partier who realized alongside his wife that they needed to adopt a healthier lifestyle. So they traded their cigarettes for running shoes. After road running and finding success as a fast runner, Jake turned to the trails. His ultra sign-up CV is long, reporting his first trail race in October of 2014, although he had already been lacing up his shoes for several years at that point. Jake has twice represented Team USA in the 24-hour World Championships, been last man standing at a last-man-standing race, taken wins and stood on the podium countless times, grinded away miles and managed to get it all in despite working full-time, being a dad, and giving space to his wife, Missy, to hit the trails and get in her training. He's credited with a reputation for positivity and lifting others up along the way, and we are certain you are going to love his laid-back, no-excuses demeanor. Like many of you, the YogiTriathlete team was glued to this year's coverage of the Cocodona 250, and today, you get to hear all about it from first-time finisher Dandelion Dullvio-Scott. Chris Thornley, the founder of Squirrel's Nut Butter, introduced hosts Jess and BJ to Dandelion, their fellow SNB Adventure Teammate, after her grueling 105:28:27 journey from Black City Canyon to downtown Flagstaff. This point-to-point foot race, the Cocodona 250, is not for the faint of heart, with over 40,000 feet of vertical gain and 34,000 feet of loss over the 250 miles. It culminates in a challenging climb up Mt. Elden before a final descent into town to the finish line. From her mountaineering roots, Dandelion stepped into trail racing in 2018 with her first fast-pack event and has accumulated countless miles and finishes over the years, but Cocodona was her first race of the 200-mile flavor. Jess and BJ sit down with triathlete Sebastian Radilla, who recently captured the overall win at the now-infamous Ironman 70.3 Morro Bay. This year's race will go down in triathlon history as having some of the most chaotic conditions, which resulted in DNF rates close to 400. Most of these occurred during the swim due to a current that we heard was about 5 knots. The conversion is 1.15 miles per hour x 5—almost 6 miles per hour, which is faster than most people can swim. Sebastian, who swam competitively throughout high school and has continued to work on his swim through triathlon, came out of the water first in his age group and then moved through the field to capture the W on the day. Jess and BJ dive in with this champion to get a first-hand recount of his day and insight into what it takes to be a champion. Six years ago, Hannah Hoetmer had zero climbing experience and could barely run a mile. But here she is now, a professional alpinist for The North Face. Of course, with all that is life, her journey has not been without challenges, but certainly, her story is a nudge to taking risks and finding purpose in life. Hannah is involved in her own adventure goals but also deeply invested in the success of others and breaking down barriers in the climbing world by providing accessible training, resources, and support for climbers with diverse needs. She is also a big champion for women achieving their dreams and is endeavoring to complete a project she calls 30 before 30, which is to mentor 30 women before she turns 30 next year. This is an inspiring conversation for those on the edge of making shifts and taking risks, please share this episode with your community and let the trickle effect commence. Just days after placing 2nd at the IRONMAN North American Championship in Texas, professional triathlete Penny Slater graciously accepted our invitation to smackdown her incredible performance for this community. With an overall time of 8:44:36 and the second-fastest run split of the day, Penny earned her spot to the IRONMAN World Championship in Nice, France, this year and executed what she describes as a breakthrough race. She generously shares all the details, pretty and not-so-pretty, of what it took for her to deliver this world-class performance that was years in the making. We're taking it wild in this episode with mountain runner Emily Keddie. Emily is the queen of over 20 FKTs. She is an ultrarunner who never saw her life going in this direction until it did, and now she's en route to realizing her goal of climbing 2 million vertical feet in 2024. She says she is leading with her heart more than ever this year and has learned more than once along the way that sustainable love for and belief in oneself do not come from outward achievement and that imposter syndrome is something that we all experience. 50ks, 100s, 200s, and beyond, Emily has a library of experience that lives within her heart, muscles, and mind. We are grateful to her for flowing her wisdom and experience to all of you. If you enjoy the show, please leave a review on your favorite place to listen to it. Welcome to the first race smackdown of 2024, and it's not to be missed! Today, we bring together the minds and muscles of YT head coach BJ and Finding Endurance coach Jennifer, both of whom smashed the course while remaining focused on their bigger goal of IRONMAN Texas at the end of April. This race is a YT favorite, just a few miles down the road from YogiTriathlete headquarters in Carlsbad. Thank you to everyone in the community who introduced yourselves, attended Jess and BJ's breath-focused workshop, and cheered on the YTs on the course this year. We've got first-year professional triathletes and power couple Mitch Ott and Caroline Kaplan on the show today. These two have big dreams and are committed to making them a reality. BJ found their YouTube channel Rise and Tri a few months ago, and has been following since. Their honest accounts, relationship nuances, and dedication to training are all on display as they share generously about what it looks and feels like to be burgeoning professionals in the fast-changing landscape of triathlon. Sometime during their successful 2023 racing year, which included Caroline's win at the USAT Long Course Triathlon National Championship at Clash Daytona and Mitch's second-place podium finish, which he earned by breaking the 4-hour barrier, they decided that 2024 was the year to take the leap. Jess and BJ dive into their progression from age group to pro and their grand visions for the future. We hope you enjoy the show and give Caroline, Mitch, and Rise and Tri a follow to help increase their exposure in the world of professional triathlon. Thanks so much for tuning in. If you enjoy the show, please leave a review on your favorite place to listen to it. We're thrilled to welcome professional triathlete turned professional trail runner Eli Hemming to the show. Jess and BJ followed Eli's career through Olympic distance draft-legal racing on the world stage until he chose to step away from his career as a professional triathlete. Despite being ranked #1 in the U.S. because of his multiple World Cup podiums, Eli's happiness factor was falling, and he could no longer ignore that it was time for a radical change. When he hit the trail running scene in 2021, he immediately found success qualifying for the 2022 Mountain Running Championships, and when he crossed over from sub-ultra to ultra-distance racing with a 2nd at the Way Too Cool. He finished that year with several podiums but did not claim victory at a race until 2023, a year of continued improvements and highlights like placing 2nd at the Marathon Du Mont Blanc. Since the calendar turned to 2024, he's been on a winning streak; it's almost as if the trails have been patiently awaiting his arrival. Jess and BJ caught up with Eli less than a week after he took the win at the Big Alta 50k by over 20 minutes in a cool 3:38:33, an incredible feat considering this race came on the heels of crushing his competition at the Black Canyon 60k just two weeks prior, where he broke the tape by 30 minutes over 2nd place in 4:06:39. Smoking fast! Thanks so much for tuning in. If you enjoy the show, please leave a review on your favorite place to listen to it. You can also support the commercial-free nature of the YTP and Awake Athlete podcasts by joining our Patreon community. In this episode: - The feeling of winning - Finding fulfillment now - Hot from the start or slow build? - Opportunities for growth in his trail running skills - Knowing where the bar is set with competition - Racing in Europe versus the US - Routine philosophy - Importance of specificity of racing - Black Canyon Ultra goals - Why don't we fuel enough while racing? - Big Alta learnings on nutrition - Golden Trail World Series - The uprising of sub-ultra racing - What does happiness feel like
Dr. Dave is rounding out his three-peat performance on the YTP, having been the star of episode 166 back in 2019, then alongside his incredible wife, Dr. Lindsay, in 2020 for episode 238, both of these conversations diving deep under the surface chatter and into meaningful topics for performance and life. After following Dave's recent 100-mile journey, Jess and BJ were inspired to bring him back onto the show, not just because he ran 100 miles but because of his mindset around this adventure, his training (up until three months ago, he never ran more than 5 miles and that was when he was in high school) and also because of his surprising takeaways including his reflection that with just three months of training, running 100 miles is not hard. Dave is the founder of Inside Out Strength. He holds a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and several strength, fitness, and performance certifications. Although all of that is very impressive, it's Dave's journey to finding his own strength and health, along with his unshakeable resolve, that makes him the very impressive ultrarunner, husband, dad, and human that so many have not just benefited from but come to love and deeply respect. In this episode: - Strong limiting thoughts - The text from BJ - Detachment tested - The race got canceled - The ripple effect - Show up for yourself to inspire others - The rare core values of today - Drowning in mediocrity - Balancing strength and 100-mile training - The hill that Dr. Dave will die on - Strength training vs mobility - Fueling for 100 miles - Takeaways - The most powerful place to look for answers
Jess and BJ welcome ultrarunner and recent Moab 240 victor Jesse Haynes to the show. It's safe to categorize this one under story-telling; for the majority of this episode, Jesse takes us through his incredible journey like a verbal journal entry. From his relentless yet unsuccessful pursuit to drop out and the surprise visit on the trail that had him sprinting full gas to the finish, Jesse gives us all the details of his unexpected win. Jesse has been in the ultra game for over a decade now but has been a runner even longer. With too many races under his belt to count, Jesse has taken some epic wins, a few DNFs, and many top tens and podium spots. Still, perhaps something even more important is that at 50, Jesse appears to have found a longevity recipe in the sport of running that keeps him going and at the top of his game. Not only does running run through his bones, but it also runs through his household in partnership with his wife, ultrarunner, race director extraordinaire, and YTP guest Keira Henniger, who we had on the show in November 2020. Thank you so much for tuning in; we truly hope you enjoy the show. In this episode: - Jesse's Moab 240 recovery - Having a plan but a loose plan - His only goal for Moab 240 - Three-minute naps and the solar eclipse - Working through pulmonary edema - Planning to drop and ultimately winning - Power of being in first place - Chasing a headlamp that was never there - Jesse's turning point in the race - Being hunted - Hallucinations and falling asleep standing up - All things are possible
---- CFKLG est produit par YTP. this is a comedy ""podcast"" btw believe it or not. It is a joke, it is parody, it is satire. It is not serious; it is not meant to be taken seriously. I do not condone the physical harming or even light harassment of real estate agents in any way shape or form. Do not call, text, or email Jeffrey Doussan or Keller Williams of New Orleans. Do not write funny bad reviews on yelp or google or furnished finder. Do not send pipe bombs or bomb threats to his house or any of his listed properties. I mean it! If you do any of these things you will be banned from podcasts forever. Thank you enjoy the show. Looking at rentals is really fun cuz real estate agents and property managers are some of the most redacted and oblivious people you have to trust with your livelihood. Recently I had scheduled to see a place and the guy no showed, no contact I messaged and emailed him multiple times and 3 days later he texted "apologies out of town." He then proceeds to try to reschedule immediately for the next day at 11am I say can we do 2pm he says no we can't let's do Monday 2pm I say okay Monday 2pm he says great I say great and then he says actually we can do tomorrow Friday 2pm i say perfect cool then Friday at 11am he says you must think we're crazy but we're actually just short-handed can you do monday 2pm and then i showed up today Monday at 2pm and the guy is 10 minutes late, I text the guy and he said "oh Philip's not there?" Philip the minion shows up within 1 minute of me texting, Philip says haha it's good thing our office is right around the corner and he points to a building literally right behind the rental and gives me the dorkiest fcking smile and I want to drown Philip in a puddle. We go to open the door and he doesn't have the right keypad code. I stand around in the rain for about 5 minutes while he calls and texts people and then he's like oh we can just try the other side of the duplex and I asked if the other side is the same layout and price and furnishings and he said no so I said no and so we sat in the rain for another 5 minutes and he finally gets the code and we go in. It looks like the last tenant had just left, all the lights and tvs are on and trash cans full, poop splatters on the toilet and it smells like cat piss. Despite this, I message the property manager that I am interested and would like to move forward with my application and he likes my message and says nothing else. $1400/month. a few years ago, a property manager was stunned that I requested to inspect the house before signing a legal document that said we conducted an inspection and told me I was the first person to ever do so. He addressed me as "Gay bro" in a text and it was never acknowledged $1754/month 440 sq feet #italiano #realestateagent #propertymanagement When you were investing in real estate, I studied the blade. When you were having open houses, I mastered the blockchain. While you wasted your days at the bank in pursuit of equity, I cultivated inner strength. And now that the world is on fire and the barbarians are at the gate you have the audacity to come to me for rent. It's free! Real estate! We're giving you land! It's free. We're giving you a house. Today's premiere features Mezer The Architects' latest release on POTOP. The Katowice-based label is home to Carti Summer Jam which combines elements of sun-kissed trance, rap and hints of euphoria resulting in his take on a modern-day party track. Hailing from Gdansk, Poland, Mezer The Architect is an accomplished DJ and music producer in the world of electro and ghetto tech. Boasting a residency with the Scottish dance music platform Project Radio. His productions have crept into a variety of sets all over the world and are a combination of booty bass, ghetto house, electro, breaks and hot g-funk native tracks which take inspiration from the West Coast. Recently he has taken a new direction by mixing elements of trance and ghetto in his productions. Initially beginning with uploading his music on Soundcloud, where he is known for his signature sound that combines a range of ghetto elements with vocal-lead samples, Mezer has released tracks alongside artists like Mell G, YTP, Club Cab, Raw Takes and 666uba. Mezer has released his tracks on a wealth of labels, some of which include Angels Gun Club, Crazed Behavior, Gimmeabreakrecords, Your Character, Native Boundaries, Urban Rar and Low Income Squad. His debut EP “Corrupted Minds” gained praise from many DJs around the world, most notably DJ Stingray, who spun Mezer's tracks from the EP relentlessly. Mezer The Architect joins the likes of Chris Flanagan, Diversion, DJ Swisherman and more on POTOP's Swim Club compilation that is due to release in full on July 31st where you can hear Mezer's new production direction take effect by means of him incorporating elements of rap with trance and some old-school house for good measure. Commanding a high degree of production quality throughout the composition is left feeling polished giving for a thoroughly enjoyable listen. Welcome to our June installment of the OH Show. It's powerful, to the point, and here for you to take away what resonates and put those things into action today. If you have questions you'd like us to address next month, please post in the comments or send us a message. If you are enjoying this podcast, whether you have been a listener since 2016 or you have just discovered the wellspring of the YTP, please consider becoming a patron on patreon.com/yogitriathlete which keeps this and the Awake Athlete podcasts commercial-free, just the way we all like them to be. In this episode, we discuss: - sun gratitude is high - when BJ is a better podcast host - stay focused on your goal - be willing to win and willing to fail - there is no too good to be true - do you believe in yourself or not - spiritual accounting - existence bliss - releasing attachment to the outcome - fear of success - the flow of letting your yes be yes - good enough is not enough - a hero at the beginning - show me who you are in the middle - if you don't love it, you won't relentlessly pursue it - the battle of you and you - Team YogiTriathlete racing Namaste- Jess
Gene Baur is the co-founder and president of Farm Sanctuary. He is the star of YTP episode 17, which we recorded in 2016 when BJ and I lived on the road. We were staying in Ithaca, New York, and we'd drive to Watkins Glen, drop Clark off at a dog sitter, and then head to Farm Sanctuary, where we volunteered for seven days. It was a profound experience of transformation and hard labor. Gene has been relentless in his advocacy of animals for almost four decades. He has visited hundreds of farms, stockyards, and slaughterhouses, documenting deplorable conditions. Through his investigative and rescue work, he has educated millions about the plight of modern farm animals. His message of compassionate living transcends age, race, or class and hits deep into the essence of who we are and begs the question - if we can live well without causing unnecessary harm, why wouldn't we? From hob-knobbing with Hollywood royalty to debating on national television, countless public addresses, and authoring two books, Gene is showing this world that compassion is a superpower for good and in effect, has inspired many to shift their mindset around animals to friends, not food. We loved this beautiful conversation and hope you do too! Thank you for tuning in. If you are enjoying the show, if it's assisting you with positive change in your life, please take a moment to leave a review on your preferred listening station. And then head over to Patreon and check out the perks of support; we couldn't do this each week without our patrons. In this episode, we discuss: - compassion is a superpower for good - update on Watkins Glen, NY & Acton, CA locations - the profound impact of veganic agriculture - lawns transitioning to gardens - find common ground to educate - only 4% of mammals live free in the wild - we are losing biodiversity - obstacles to moving to a vegan lifestyle - Hilda's story - positive videos to raise awareness and open hearts and minds - animals are social beings - long walks in nature to process - animal advocacy legislation - future of Farm Sanctuary Namaste- Jess
We are delighted to welcome professional gravel racer and ultra runner Heather Jackson back to the show. Our first episode with Heather launched in January 2020. So much has transpired since then, including her retirement from racing triathlon at the professional level and Heather and her husband Wattie becoming parents with the arrival of Stevie pup, who was introduced to the world via Instagram last September. Heather finished off 2022 in a huge way, having raced her final Ironman in Kona at the World Championships, then two weeks later placing 14th female at the Big Sugar 100-mile gravel race, and then one week later took the ultra running scene by storm with her 5th place finish at Javelina Hundred 100-mile after leading the race through mile-60. And most recently, she just crushed the Black Canyon 100k after an iconic battle with heavy hitters like Keely Henniger and Ida Nilsson. She finished 2nd on the day, coming in under the previous course record with a time of 8hrs 47 minutes, and 59 seconds. So much newness and unknown during this conversation, and of course, we dig for her treasures of wisdom which she always shares so generously. Thank you for tuning in! If you enjoy the show, please consider making your statement known on Patreon - this community is solely responsible for keeping the YTP and Awake Athlete podcasts commercial-free. In this episode, we discuss: - moving to the dirt sports - going out too hot - Ironman endurance on the trails - beginners mindset - the art of downhill running - trail running requires presence - nutrition practices for these longer trail races - Heather's support crew - joy and gratitude - epic trail battles - gravel riding to support healthy running - Western States 100 Endurance Run - what are you waiting for? - 2023 race calendar Namaste- Jess
In this episode of the YTP, we share the mic with Instagram sensation, comedic content creator, and storyteller Laura Green. Laura has taken the running world by storm through her comedic reels that ask all runners and running companies to lighten up. In any given video, she is either poking fun at herself, others, major running brands, or all three. She is a lifelong athlete who we hear was a stand-out in everything, including a unique artistic expression she coined, air-violin. She is an OG November Project coach, physical therapist, and runner. Laura is also the originator of Folk Tale Film, where she creates Family Films, Legacy Videos, and brand features. In addition, she's an east coaster, wife to Connor, and mom of two abnormally large young boys. And with that said, I think it's time to queue up this episode and listen for yourself. In this episode, we discuss: - the beginnings of her reel craze - loving the process of creation - capturing the beauty of running but in a funny way - staying grounded - the false illusion of time - living life with no regrets - adventure in Nepal - entry into sports - competitive and working to be the best - worth is not dependent on race results - surrounding yourself with good people - following your passion - creating boundaries - are her stories too risky? - current relationship with running - vision for the future Namaste- Jess
Thank you for joining us for the final OH Show of 2022. It's hard to believe that we are moving into year seven of this podcast. From our kitchen table in Rhode Island to Hell's Kitchen in NYC, from the back of Mishka Shubaly's van to countless Air Bnbs across the country, and from at least one tree house to remote interviews from the other side of the world, the YTP has a track record for getting it done. If you know anything about us or Team YogiTriathlete, then you know we live and breathe consistency. A little bit every day over a long period of time. And so we wrap up another year of offering meaningful content to the world; we thank you for listening and supporting the show through Patreon. In this episode, we discuss: - detachment changed BJ's life - run/walk - if you feel disturbance, look no further for your work - Pura Vida Cycling Challenge in May - Team YogiTriathlete bike camp - pushing the platform of authenticity - protecting ourselves from the judgment of others - being you, the true you - the truth will set you free - authentic moments in our lives - welcome them freely; let them go freely - how do we find out who we are? - the trickle effect of an experience Namaste- Jess
Hello YT Community! Thank you for joining us for the November OH Show. Without much agenda, we hit record and let it flow. We hope you find this content helpful and, at the least, an enjoyable past-time for your day. Thank you, Patreon members, for keeping this show alive and commercial-free. Without you, there is no YTP. So, onward yogis, shine your lights bright and set your goals big! In this episode we discuss: - make the known, unknown, and make the certain, uncertain. - jnana and vijnana - when BJ learned to be himself - getting out ahead of your thoughts - patience in creating new habits - the discomfort of silence - is your mind tuned to the noise or the silence - anxiousness on the swim - is my belief true? - bike camp for YT athletes - seriously considering ourselves into nothing - "no" is an acceptable answer - looking to welcome in an additional YT running coach Namaste- Jess
The turn-around on this podcast was about as fast as Ben Kanute's race at Ironman Arizona yesterday. When we saw Ben announce, just one week after 70.3 Worlds, that he was going to race IMAZ, we reached out to see if he was up for a YTP three-peat experience. And so here we are. Less than 24 hours after claiming the third podium spot and a Kona slot, Ben arrived at our hotel this morning to share his experience with this community. What a guy! We are so grateful to Ben and to all of our listeners. This community is amazing, thank you for being a part of it. In this episode we discuss: - takeaways from Ironman 70.3 World Championship - Slowtwitch distractions - working with a mental coach - the monkey mind - racing his first Ironman - how the day unfolded at Ironman AZ - being strategic but staying within himself - patience - the longest miles of the day - racing in his backyard vs. traveling - Briella's first Ironman race - getting his Kona spot - Dad strength, is it real? Namaste- Jess Photo Credit/IG: schiffsphotography
Aloha from Kailua-Kona, where we recorded this smackdown the day after Coach BJ realized his dream to compete at the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. Jennifer Vollman joins us for this episode as she also fulfilled her Kona dream a few days before. Jennifer is the co-founder of the Pura Vida Cycling Challenge, a life-transformational 5-day Costa Rica cycling experience in which BJ and I took part last May. She is also the founder of Finding Endurance coaching and the star of YTP 314, where we learned more about her background and discussed the cycling challenge with her Pura Vida partner Dan Casey. Jennifer and BJ generously share about their big island race experiences, and we hope you take away many nuggets of gold for your training and racing. Thank you to those who sent in such wonderful questions, I can't believe it, but we managed to hit them all! In this episode we discuss: - calorie consumption - how do you know if you are fueling enough? - the importance of developing a sense of FEEL - Maui yoga & meditation retreat the week before Kona - "eh ho mai" mantra - gain or drain in the Energy Lab - training in a dry, desert climate for Kona - key training sessions for Kona - mental preparation for racing a championship - dig one big hold - challenging mental moments - train the ego - most unexpected experience - Jennifer's transition to a plant-based diet - crossing the finish line at IM World Championship - road to Kona - happy birthday, Jennifer! We are excited to welcome Dr. Niki Davis to the show, another spectacular physician from Plant-Based Telehealth. Dr. Davis is a rocket scientist but certainly not because that is required to eat a whole foods plant-based diet. In fact, her move away from eating animal products was sparked by an intuitive feeling that eating animals was not healthy, and so at the age of 13, she began her shift towards a more vibrant life. Dr. Davis has learned from many of the greats in lifestyle medicine, including YTP guests Dr. Michael Klaper and Dr. Alan Goldhamer. We hope you take away many nuggets of gold as we shine a light on the gifts Dr. Davis is here to share. In this episode, we discuss. - taking the leap from a comfortable job into your passion - entertaining doubt - finding confidence in yourself - patience in moving from SAD to WFPB - effects of dairy on the body - what is inflammation and is it bad? - recovery with athletes on a WFPB diet - fasting benefits - interrupting habits - children eat the foods you continue to give them - know your WHY for eating more plant-based We hope you enjoy the show. I met IzzyB shortly after I moved to San Diego with a new purpose to complete my first ultra-marathon, and since knowing her, although we don't see each other often, I have watched her level up in so many ways. It's always a treat to join one of her UltraBuds group runs or when I run into her on the trails, which happens occasionally. Izzy plays so many roles in this life and is another guest who leaves us with no excuses. She is president of Janovick Communications, a marketing strategy firm, founder of UltraBuds running group, and co-founder of Ghost Runners Coaching alongside YTP guest Vera Stepina from episode 196. Izzy is an ultra runner herself and an obstacle course racer training for and has since completed, the Dallas Spartan Ultra 50k, which includes over 60 obstacles. I would describe Izzy as driven. She completes what she starts and continues to grow past her limitations as I see her empower her athletes to do the same. When she's not out there crushing it for herself or her athletes, she's in service of others. She recently paced a friend at the Badwater 135 and just announced that she is the race director for the North County Beer run. So how did she get here? Well, that's what we dive into during this episode and more. In this episode, we discuss: - Spartan racing - Wimpy gyms - her upcoming and first 100-mile trail run - the intersection of strength and endurance running - from a broken back to trail running - mental training techniques - burpees everyday - nutrition for athletes - “F” macros - balancing a love for beer with a commitment to fitness - carb loading - heat training - pacing at Badwater Thank you to all who keep this podcast commercial-free through your pledge on Patreon. Nastasha is the founder and CEO of Choice Juicery, San Diego's largest women-owned vegan food chain. She is leading a growing dynasty of integrity that has matured into so much more than a grab-and-go eatery. We first sat down with Nastasha back in 2018 for episode 103, in which we dive into the back story of the life she is living now. We then recorded a YTP mini with her in June 2020 as BJ, and I watched her business expand within a global pandemic. With company policies rooted in mindfulness practices, Nastasha and her team are living the demonstration for a better world. We hope you enjoy the show! In this episode, we discuss: - thriving in the midst of a storm - integrity as a true north - certainty in trust - magic of everyday - surrender to get to the next level - the emotional moat - Choice's company ethos - the secret menu - why cold-pressed, non-pasteurized juice served in glass - gamma radiation! - the story of the bread that teaches yoga - the future of Choice Thank you to all who keep this podcast commercial-free through your pledge on Patreon. Here it is, the first and perhaps most iconique brother death! In this massive episode, Beau and Clare talk about the final 4 episodes of season 2: Folsom Prison Blues, What Is And What Should Never Be, and both parts of All Hell Breaks Loose. Along with discussions of Dean looking bloody, Dean looking sad, and Dean being touch-starved, they talk about the introduction of our first named queer character and how great Bobby is, and most importantly how pepperjack cheese is highly underrated. Thank you to Jack for your excellent voiceover! --- Content warnings: prison rape jokes (discussed, not dealt out), incarceration, alcoholism, dean's suicidal tendencies, fetishization of queer identities, mention of Killing Stalking, child death/parental loss Timestamps: Episode 19 - 4:43 Episode 20 - 22:41 Episode 21 - 55:59 Episode 22 - 1:30:15 --- Clare (she/they): @doopliss27 on Twitter, @dooplissss on Tumblr, clareduncandesign.com Beau (he/they) Follow us at @HellAintPodcast on Twitter @hellaintcomplicated on Tumblr Hell Ain't Complicated on Facebook Spotify Discord Community fanmix Email us at hellaintcomplicated@gmail.com for questions, comments, ideas, etc. Sign up to be a guest here!
