In todays episode we talk about what training Collin did in the lead up to winning the PTO US Open with coach Mikal Iden & training partner Lionel Sanders. Lionel, Collin and Mikal decided to do a period of overreaching training prior to the PTO US Open in a bid to beat the worlds best - and it worked. We go through the training day by day and then discuss their brutal heat training. Then we talk about the following month in the lead up to the Ironman World Champs where, under the watchful eye of Coach Mikal, Collin & Lionel continued on their path of doing HUGE amounts of training out on the big island. Talbot Cox filmed their training out there and posted about it every day on Lionel Sanders YouTube page. Once you listen to this - go and watch that. We then talk about diet, both day to day and race day. Collin is as honest and detailed as any guest we've had and I found this chat with him so interesting, raw & insightful. ** Sign up to PATREON to support the show (for only $2 AUD/$1 USD per week it is the only reason the show is still going. Professional triathlete Danielle Dingman is joining us today to smackdown her win at the PTO supported Bear Lake Brawl in Idaho just a few weeks ago. It was first the triathlon in the states with a professional field since before the pandemic. With only a few weeks' notice, pros from all over packed their bags and headed to Idaho's southeast corner to throw down old school style. With a stacked field, brutal conditions, and YTP guest, Talbot Cox getting up close with live coverage, it was an epic re-entry into racing. In this episode, we discuss: - 2020 training season and what Danielle's coach had to say about her progress this year - the PTO and why they are essential to the success of professional triathlon - race morning routine and nutrition - race visualization practice - wanting it more and knowing it - ignoring your purpose rather than just living it Check out the YogiTriathlete community on Patreon, where our supporters drive the YT mission forward. We are excited to share our "Best of 2019" with you guys today. Based on your feedback and our intuition we are showcasing six episodes from the past year. We are so grateful to be the conduit of wisdom and to share these guests with you. Here's to a bountiful New Year for all! Podcast 139: Talbot Cox of Talbot Cox Media Talbot Cox is in the slipstream of his creation and knows there is no other direction to move than forward. He has faced adversity and triumphed. He has seen how fast life-savings can dwindle and how quickly a financial situation can turn into debt. Following his passion full-gas has also caused a major disruption in the norm of sports media and with that, many people are not supporters of his mission but this has not stopped him. His intention is not to upset. His intention is not to hoard the knowledge that has afforded him exceptional success in a short period of time. Talbot is very clear on his intention and that is to grow a sport that he holds very close to his heart and create abundance for as many involved as possible along the way. Podcast 151: Tom Voss, The Meditating Vet In 2004, 20-year-old Tom Voss was deployed to Mosul, Iraq to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was a part of a scout sniper platoon which meant that many days it was Tom’s job to run towards gunfire as he gathered intel for military operations. He never expected to return home alive and early on in his deployment he surrendered his resistance to death. Tom endured relentless exposure to violence and sustained what he calls, moral injury. He was diagnosed and treated for PTSD with pharmaceutical drugs that quieted his symptoms but not his deep moral wounds. He knew he needed to begin processing the deep pain and grief that could not be medicated away. Podcast 159: Magda Boulet of GU Energy Magda is Vice President of Innovation, Research, and Development at GU and it all started many years ago when she knocked on the door and asked for help. At the time, Magda was a roadrunner looking to up her game and she knew that sports nutrition was an important piece for her to learn. That day she met the legendary Dr. Vaughan, who created the first energy gel to aid his daughter to reach her peak performance in ultrarunning. Never did Magda think that day, that she would also someday become an ultramarathoner and a GU executive. Podcast 160: Kristin Mayer of Betty Designs Kristin Mayer started her morning on a seemingly ordinary Monday utterly unaware that her life was about to change forever. At 1 pm that afternoon, Kristin’s husband confessed that he was no longer happy and no longer committed to sharing his life with her. In those moments, Kristin experienced everything that one could imagine when their life turns upside down. One day at a time and on many days, one moment at a time she rebuilt herself and discovered strength she didn’t realize she possessed. Today Kristin finds herself at the top of one of the most recognizable brands in the endurance sports world. Podcast 169 with Gerry Rodriguez of Tower 26 Gerry Rodrigues started swimming in the open water 50 years ago. He has over 100 open water titles and is one of the most experienced swim coaches of our time. He is the founder of Tower 26, a coaching empire that focuses on preparing triathletes to be race-ready. In this episode, he gives us the keys to the kingdom by sharing his well-informed experiential wisdom on swimming for the sport of triathlon. Podcast 171 with Philip and Renee Philip Urso and Renee Deslauriers are co-owners of Live, Love Teach – Yoga Teacher Training School and Rhode Island Power Yoga. They are co-creators of the Yoga-Based Stress Reduction (YBSR) educational program, and their goal is to identify a more evidence-based approach to yoga classes. Philip is in his 4th-semester of graduate-level classes at Harvard University. His work focuses on medical and psychological studies on anxiety, yoga, and mindfulness. Namaste - Jess

This is The Do It For Yourself Podcast. Each week I sit down with someone who is doing it for themselves and chasing a dream they just couldn’t suppress. This is often speakers, entrepreneurs, or athletes. They all share one thing in common, they are overcoming challenges and never giving up. Someone who is Doing It For Themselves is not selfish in their pursuit, they are simply chasing a dream or working towards a goal because it is something THEY want to do. They are not forging down a path because society or someone is telling them it’s what they should be doing. For many of you, this week's guest needs no introduction. If you have been following anything triathlon on social media, especially YouTube you have most certainly seen something shot by Talabot Cox. Talbot seemingly exploded on to the scene overnight but I promise you that was not the case at all. Talbot was using photography just as a passion while competing in triathlons himself. When the spark was first lit Talbot was still working his full-time job and knew very little about the world he was going to jump into but he knew he loved triathlon and was finding his passion for photography. We get a chance to dive into full detail here for Talbots story and how it all started. I really hope you enjoy this conversation! There is no one that I have heard of who has followed their passion into a career and not been introduced to its best friend, the hustle. I also have never heard of anyone who has followed their passion into a career and not embraced the hustle. I believe that is because passion, by its nature, is such a dominant state of being that the pursuant individual is placed, by default, at its beck and call. Passion easily takes place of sleep and food. It serves as the nectar of life and energy itself. Living a passion-fueled career is not for the faint of heart as walking this path promises to bring adversity and opportunity for growth. It will take you to the place where most people walk away in lieu of uncertainty and it will show you its power of light and dark in equal force. For those of us who have come out the other side, hopefully unscathed, find a momentum so powerful that is harder to abandon your dreams than to continue the hustle. This is where we find our guest today. Talbot Cox is in the slipstream of his creation and knows there is no other direction to move than forward. He has faced adversity and triumphed. He has seen how fast a life savings can dwindle and how quickly a financial situation can turn into debt. Following his passion with full-gas has also caused a major disruption in the norm of sports media and with that, many people are not supporters of his mission but this has not stopped him. His intention is not to upset. His intention is not to hoard the knowledge that has afforded him exceptional success in a short period of time. Talbot is very clear on his intention and that is to grow a sport that he holds very close to his heart and create abundance for as many involved as possible along the way. Through his passion-fueled life, there is no doubt that Talbot will exceed every dream in this life. He is certainly someone to follow into the future. The most dangerous thing you can do in life is play it safe.”- Casey Neistat. A self-proclaimed “pro triathlete fan boy” and “not great photographer,” my conversation with Talbot is more about following your passion and channeling your inner Gary Vee to make a career out of what you love. Although his photos and videos are epic, Talbot wants to be remembered more for his passion and energy, as well as building a business from nothing except a camera and a dream. It’s been a year since Talbot bust on the triathlon scene at Ironman Kona, so after you listen to our convo, be sure to follow his journey as he captures the top athletes in our sport. www.talbotcox.com
Talbot Cox burst onto the triathlon scene at Kona in 2017 when he published his first behind-the-scenes video with pro triathlete Lionel Sanders, which instantly garnered hundreds of thousands of views. Since then, he's done photography and video work for some of the world's top professionals at triathlons around the country including regular content for Gwen Jorgensen as she chases Olympic gold medal in marathon, and two-time Kona champ Mirinda Carfrae and pro triathlete husband Tim O'Donnell. After many requests from Trainiacs, Taren teamed up with Talbot at IM 70.3 Boulder to do this episode of the podcast! They talk about how Talbot got his start as the videographer to the pros, some great stories about Gwen, Rinny and Lionel, and Talbot's plans for the future. Gwen Jorgensen seems to have realized the true value of happiness – and she has set a path in life toward achieving it – happiness not success that is. The reason I say this is not because of what she says in the interview but how she lights up whenever she talks about anything that is bigger than herself, specifically her journey into motherhood. Gwen is an Olympic gold medalist in the sport of triathlon. She won 17 ITU World cup titles and a gold medal all in the span of 6 short years as a professional triathlete. After the Olympics she entered the New York Marathon for fun and finished in 14th place with a time of 2:41. After that she got pregnant and had a baby, right around the time she declared that she was going after another Olympic spot, this time in the marathon! She sets her goals high and then tells the world so she can’t hide behind anything. Even though we covered some incredible topics today, I am having a little interviewer’s remorse because I wanted to cover more. Like the fact that Gwen chose to give up a wildly successful triathlon career, right after she won a gold medal! And that she is now training for the 2020 Olympic marathon with the Bowerman Track Club and women like Shalane Flanagan. But the truth is that this chapter of her life is still being written, and many of you didn’t know what got her to this point in the first place. So I will be happy with what we did cover and look forward to talking to her again in the future – hopefully after the 2020 Olympic Marathon. Today we talk about: Growing up in theMidwest Violin: How she became very successful even though she didn’t like it Swimming vs running: Hard work vs talent Goals: process based & technique based Running form goals Exceeding the demands of competition in training Nontraditional family roles Active pregnancy when you are an elite athlete Stanley’s birth & Gwen's physical recovery My only wish is that we could have talked longer! I want to know if she already has an inkling of which new sport she’ll go after in 2021! But for now, I'll take it! I loved chatting about her background. I can just envision Gwen as a little girl, working so hard and pushing her perfectionist mentality to the edge. Clearly she’s talented but it takes more than talent to be the best in the world. Hard work and mental toughness round it out and Gwen’s got it all. How to find & follow Gwen! All photos by Talbot Cox. Check him out too!
Damn, I enjoyed this conversation with Talbot. This kid (and yes at 41 I can call Talbot a kid) is out there creating his own path. He's done alright athletically but what he's doing in the sport of triathlon for the sport of triathlon to increase its exposure and create better experiences for all of us is downright inspiring. Talbot is on a tear and having a lot of fun along the way. His attitude is infectious and already has wisdom beyond his years. Enjoy.
