Before he played White Goodman in Dodgeball, Ben Stiller starred as Tony Perkis in Heavyweights. Unfortunately this turn as an obsessed fitness instructor did not strike a chord with critics or make a splash at the box office, but this week we're taking a second look at everyone's favorite nostalgic summer movie about a fat camp to determine what it gets right!Join the Best of the Rest discord: https://discord.gg/86P7jJXNPb Merch: https://www.teepublic.com/user/botrcast Email: bestoftherestpod@gmail.com Social Media @BotRCast on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook Bonus content: Youtube Theme song (vocals) by Mark Benavides: Instagram Music by Mitch: Twitter, SoundCloud Logo by Alex Brinegar: https://beardodoesdesign.com/ Additional artwork by Phillip Chacon, C7Productions: Instagram

Heavyweights is a kid friendly take on the the traditional slobs versus snobs trope. In it, a group of kids are supposed to be headed to enjoy an awesome summer; but once there, they discover that the beloved owners of Camp Hope were forced to sell to an obnoxious fitness freak, Tony Perkis. It's Perkis' mission to whip these kids into shape—only not for their own benefit. He's trying to sell an infomercial about his patented Perkis System. It then becomes the mission of the titular Heavyweights to take back their summer from the unstable Perkis. Hijinks, hilarity, and a fair bit of sadism ensue. Full of mixed messages about excess weight, the movie can be a tonal rubber band. And Heavyweights is also extremely 90s, which as we all know, was a lawless ass time. Hence why it received general poor reviews and struggled to make a dent at the box office. Despite that, though, it is generally considered a cult classic—especially since Perkis is such a memorable character. Now, sit back, launch a Fat Randy's IPA from Holidaily into the stratosphere with the Blob, and help get those deli meats off your friend's back! I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Chumpzilla, Capt. Cash, the J-Man, and Bling Blake are high on Perkis Power! Hi, Hi, Hiya! The Disney Drama continues as Michael Eisner hires his Hollywood buddy, super-agent Michel Ovitz, as president of the company. 434 days later he's fired and a contentious lawsuit brings the executive suite to court where Eisner alleges that Ovitz was acting like a jerk at his Mom's funeral (seriously... you can't make this stuff up). All Gerald Gardner wants is a fun summer of Go-Karts. Instead, he gets Tony Perkis. Jim complains about Ben Stiller, Nick raves about him, and the two try to decide if "skinny wiener" is a compliment. Disney's "Heavyweights" (1995) is a comedy/family film about a children's fat camp that is taken over by a deranged fitness obsessed narcissist who wants to use the kids as assets for a weight loss infomercial. Tune in as we see if fat camps/camps exist anymore, discuss why Disney will never make a movie like this ever again, why Tony Perkis and White Goodman from "Dodgeball" (2004) would be best friends, dig in to why the film is a great concept for a comedic premise, go over the main plot points, and more!Created by Drew HellmichWritten by Drew, Matt, and Bryan HellmichProduced by Drew HellmichMusic by Bryan HellmichEdited by Drew HellmichFollow us on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/screenplay_junkie/Check out Bryan's music here:https://soundcloud.com/pheelsmusichttps://www.instagram.com/bheat.beats/

For our first Summer Camp film, Lauren was shocked that Greg had never even heard of her pick Heavy Weights. For this Disney film about fat camp, we discuss the terrible business practices of Camp Hope and its original owners, the secret identity and future career path of Tony Perkis, kids who are stone-cold murderers, and why Greg actually sided with the villain of this film. This week we rewatch the children's classic Heavyweights. We discuss our major camp envy as two 90's kids that never had the opportunity to go. We also talk about how Tony Perkis is really just an early version of Ben Stiller's Dodgeball villain, White Goodman. Of course we hand out some "prestigious" awards and decide if this childhood classic holds up to our adult standards.
Episode 08: Heavy Weights / Heavyweights(1995) In this episode, we try to fix the plot of the 1995 cult kids comedy Heavyweights. Was Ben Stiller's character, Tony Perkis wrong? Who exactly was that mute kid? Find out how we would Fix the Plot.
Carlos loved Heavyweights as a kid, Donna had never heard of it, and Chris realized that his memories of it were actually a combination of several other "kids run amok" movies from this era. Ben Stiller's hilariously over-the-top performance seems to be the main thing everyone remembers about it and we all decided that aspect was not oversold. Tony Perkis isn't just a precursor to Dodgeball's White Goodman (although the comparisons are fair). It's actually a surprisingly nuanced character - seriously! Topics include: Donna's own experiences at summer camp, her one major gripe with the film, the most elaborate way Chris was ever rejected by a girl he asked out, misleading IMDb trivia, whether or not the Apache Relay subplot was necessary, our favorite Lars moments, and much much more! iTunes / Stitcher / RSS / Facebook / Twitter / Instagram About The Show
