Today on the Balancing Chaos Podcast, Kelley welcomes registered dietitian and nutrition expert Ilana Muhlstein. Ilana is passionate about helping people manage and lose weight and helping children establish a healthy relationship with food from a young age because when she was eight years old, she was shipped off to “Fat Camp.” She lost 30 pounds in one summer, but came back to school and gained it all back. She fell into a horrible yoyo dieting cycle and by 13 years old she was 215 pounds at 5'2". She had a horrible dependency on comfort food, diets and deprivation, all at the same time. A few years later, Ilana discovered the formula and the mindset approach for sustainable weight loss: simple tweaks to her food environment, nutrition selection and emotional reactions. Her 100-pound weight loss transformation inspired her to be the most credible nutrition expert in the field so she can help others. On today's episode of the show, Ilana shares her unique framework for overcoming weight loss plateaus, revving up slow-moving metabolisms, and ensuring sustainable weight loss maintenance for years to come. Their conversation touches on what really matters when you're trying to lose weight, how to break free from emotional eating, using the scale as a tool for motivation and progress, why all calories are not created equal and how to eat smarter NOT LESS! Plus, if you're looking to implement strategies to help your children have a healthier relationship with food, Kelley and Ilana dive into deficiencies that come from poor nutrition in childhood, how to raise balanced eaters, and how it's our responsibility as parents to teach them from a young age about food that nourishes our little ones. This episode promises to be a treasure trove of valuable insights for women trying to lose weight and keep it off, and parents aiming to keep their kids happy and healthy! Spurned on by the Maintenance Phase podcast episode about the horror of fat camps, besties Alison Rampa (she/her/hers) and Erica Chiseck (she/her/hers) decided to redesign the experience of a fat camp into an actual fat-positive camp. Trophies for biggest cannonballs, gourmet s'mores, midriff-baring clothing, and telling anti-diet ghost stories around the campfire are all part of the experience of inviting women and women-identifying to take up space and reclaim the camp experience at Camp Roundup. As a lifelong fat girl, Erica Chiseck is incredibly familiar with taking up space. An abortion activist, Democratic Precinct leader as well as a board member for the Cincinnati Women's March, Erica never considered being fat one of her centers of activism, but it has become clear in the last few years that simply existing non apologetically in a fat body is an act of resistance and rebellion.Alison Rampa is a writer, teacher, actress, improviser and mom from Cincinnati Ohio. Alison currently teaches middle school English in Hamilton, Ohio by day and is co-owner and producer of a female-focused murder mystery dinner theater company, Unique Events Productions. Please connect with Alison & Erica on the Camp Round up page, and sign up for Labor Day 2023!! On the latest episode of The Fighter vs. The Writer, UFC welterweight Matt Brown and Damon Martin discuss the latest news from around the sport and preview the upcoming UFC 282 card. At the top of the show, Brown will react to the news that the UFC has moved to prevent any fighters associated with James Krause from competing in the promotion due to an ongoing investigation surrounding betting irregularities. Brown will offer his insight into what the UFC had previously told fighters about betting on contests and his own history seeing athletes and coaches wagering on the sport. We'll also break down everything that unfolded at UFC Orlando including Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson's win over Kevin Holland in the main event. Brown praises Holland's coaches for stopping the fight after the fourth round rather than sending him back out when he was clearly compromised. Finally, we'll look ahead at UFC 282 and the two biggest fights on the card as Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev battle for the light heavyweight title and Paddy Pimblett looks to continue his winning ways against Jared Gordon. Brown will discuss Pimblett's rapid rise and his feeling about the British fighter constantly ballooning up in weight between fights and what that says about his chances for long-term success in the sport. This week I wanted to bring you a conversation with Jennifer Hanson gojennygo67 about her 350 mile Iditarod Trail Invitational which she finished in 6 days 2 hours.Arizona born and raised, Jennifer grew up in the outdoors. She makes a living training horses but is also an experienced equestrian endurance rider. In these endurance events, a competitor will ride their noble steed over a 50 - 100 mile course trying to be the first across the line. Imagine having to feed and water your rig as well as yourself! It's clear that with this experience, and the addition of Jay P's Fat Camp and Fat Pursuit events, she was ready to dip her toes into winter ultras with the ITI 350. And given her success in the 2022 ITI, she plans to ride to Nome in 2024.In this episode we talk about how she prepared for the ITI and the things she learned along the way. We talk about her relaxed and confident mindset and how important it is to enter these events with an open mind. Her advice to anyone wanting to push their limits is that you'll never know until you try. I hope you enjoy this conversation.Lions - SkilletSave 25% off a consultation at Cycling 101 when you use the code MB40 at checkout.Save 25% at Dynamic Cyclist when you use the promo code MB40 at checkout.Visit Rollingdale CycleThanks to Lakeside Bikes in Invermere for supporting me!
