What happens when you pull a friend into a podcast studio, turn on the microphones, hit record, and THEN tell them they're on a podcast?Well... you're about to find out.Welcome to You Have to Meet My Friends—the podcast series that's becoming a phenomenon because nobody knows they're going to be on the show until they're already on the show. No preparation. No media training. No rehearsed answers. Just real people, real conversations, and real moments that can't be scripted. In this episode, I managed to get my friend Dave Blackford into the studio, sit him down, turn the mics on, and let the magic happen before he fully realized what was going on. What followed was exactly why this series exists: authentic conversation, unexpected laughs, incredible stories, and the kind of connection that's becoming harder and harder to find in a world full of filters and carefully crafted content. The truth is, some of the best conversations in life happen when nobody is trying to have one. That's the heart behind You Have to Meet My Friends.Sometimes I call people live and they don't answer. Sometimes I get sent straight to voicemail and receive a healthy reminder that my contact list may not be as impressed with me as I am. But every once in a while, someone picks up—or in this case, unknowingly sits down in the studio—and something special happens. This isn't just a podcast. It's a social experiment. It's a masterclass in spontaneity. It's proof that the most meaningful conversations often happen when nobody has time to prepare.Whether you're an entrepreneur, leader, creator, speaker, business owner, or simply someone who loves authentic storytelling, this episode will remind you that genuine human connection still wins.In this episode:• Unscripted conversation with Dave Blackford Unexpected stories and hilarious moments• Leadership insights and life lessons• Real friendship and authentic connection• The power of spontaneity and showing up as yourselfIf you're tired of polished interviews and predictable podcasts, you're going to love this.Subscribe, turn on notifications, and join the movement because with You Have to Meet My Friends, nobody knows they're the guest until they're already the guest. And honestly...That's where the magic lives.#Podcast #Leadership #Entrepreneurship #Storytelling #Authenticity #KellyCardenas #YouHaveToMeetMyFriends #DaveBlackford #BusinessPodcast #PersonalGrowth

William Blake was a poet, artist, and spiritual Yagi antenna, who lived in 18th- and 19th-century England. The Marriage of Heaven and Hell (probably written around 1790) is a collection of pictures, poems, aphorisms, and strange prose pieces, all describing Blake's particular religious (that is to say, not Religious) worldview. What he finds is a story of resilience, recovery, and determination. Trent sits down with Nebraska rancher Matt Blackford to get a firsthand look at the progress. Together, they break down how the land is recovering, what challenges still remain, and how ranchers are working tirelessly to rebuild their operations. From regrowth on the prairie to the emotional and financial toll of the fires, this episode delivers a hard-hitting look at the reality of rural America. The Stud is an unpublished manuscript by Perth-dwelling life form Liam Blackford. It is set in a near-future, hypernatal Western Australia, and follows the lives of four stylish, elite women and one man in a 'stud house'. That is to say, the man, Luke, is employed by the four women to get them all pregnant as frequently as he can, as well as treating each of them as his queen.A very funny social satire of surprising emotional complexity, I really enjoyed The Stud and look forward to its future publication; publishers, you might want to get in contact with Liam and ask for a copy of this manuscript. Fear not. BRITPOD – England at its best. Uschi Symmons says that attending a workshop about individual development plans (IDPs) during her molecular biology postdoc at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia blew her mind. Going away and crafting her own IDP helped her to identify technical skills she lacked, and consider alternative career options beyond academia. But one limitation of IDPs is that they don't always take personal lives and values into account, says Symmons, who is now a programme manager at the European Innovation Council, the EU funding agency for breakthrough innovation, based in Brussels. In her case she needed to accommodate family priorities also, alongside her own career ambitions. In the second episode of a six-part Working Scientist podcast series on career planning, Julie Gould assesses how IDPs compare to more formal coaching sessions with careers guidance professionals, who either work on a one-to-one basis or in small groups to help researchers plan their careers.“I act as a kind of mirror,” says careers coach Sarah Blackford. Blackford and other career coaches who feature in the episode say they ask clients open questions and then reflect back they've told her about their skills, ambitions, priorities and personal circumstances. The next step, Blackford adds, is to help them develop an action plan to identify their longer-term goals. Each episode in this series concludes with a sponsored slot from the International Science Council (ISC) with the support of the China Association for Science and Technology. The ISC is exploring perspectives on career development in a changing world through conversations with emerging and established scientists on themes such as policy, AI, transdisciplinarity, mental health and international collaboration. They're not popping up every so often to say: 'Am I where I want to be? Do I have the skills to get where I want to go? Do I have the relationships to get where I want to go next?' ”Williams is joined by careers consultant Sarah Blackford. Blackford, whose clients include European universities and research institutes, describes some of the career planning frameworks that can help identify longer-term goals, including her own PhD Career Choice Indicator.Cynthia Fuhrmann, who leads the Professional Development Hub, a US-based initiative to help early career scientists, says career planning falls into three phases. This involves building awareness of yourself and your needs and priorities, and then investigating different types of career paths, before finally preparing for roles you might be interested in.The episode concludes with Julia Yates, an organizational psychologist at City St George's University in London. Yates outlines her own research, which looked at less formal career planning strategies employed by recent graduates as they searched for jobs. Hosted on Acast. In this gripping episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Sana sits down with Katinka Blackford Newman—best-selling author, investigative journalist, and founder of Antidepressantrisks.org. Together, they unpack the pharmaceutical myth of the “chemical imbalance” behind depression and explore how one pill nearly cost Katinka everything. From personal psychosis to global data gaps, Katinka sheds light on the long-term effects, the overlooked risks, and the necessity for informed consent. This isn't a call to abandon medication—it's a call to question the status quo. About the Guest:Katinka Blackford Newman is an award-winning filmmaker, journalist, and author of The Pill That Steals Lives. After a harrowing experience with psychiatric medication, Katinka became an advocate for informed consent and safe mental health care. She founded Antidepressantrisks.org to educate others on the real, often hidden dangers of these medications and now coaches people using non-drug-based emotional resilience strategies. Key Takeaways: The “chemical imbalance” theory of depression has never been scientifically proven. This year is the 45th running of the Columbus Marathon and it was great to catch up with the race director, Darris Blackford. He has run more than 200 marathons and other ultramarathons. I have been wanting to have Darris on since his wife, Star Blackford, was on Episode 3 of Weathering The Run. We chatted a lot about the ins and outs of race directing and then about his extensive experience of running through dangerously cold conditions along with running across Death Valley during Badwater. If you are interested in running the 45th Columbus Marathon, be sure to sign up before it sells out!

Liberalism is in trouble. As a set of ideas, it has lost much of its historical authority in guiding public policy and personal behaviour. In this post-liberal climate, Russell Blackford asks whether liberalism is truly over. How We Became Post-Liberal: The Rise and Fall of Toleration (Bloomsbury, 2023) examines how Western liberal democracies became nations where traditional liberal principles of toleration (religious and otherwise), individual liberty and freedom of speech are frequently dismissed as outdated or twisted to support conservative policies. Blackford traces the lineage of liberalism from problems of toleration that emerged when Christianity triumphed in the late centuries of classical antiquity, with comparison to non-Western civilizations. The political and philosophical story culminates in the recent development – over the past 30 to 50 years – of post-liberal ideologies in the West. At each stage, Blackford discusses arguments for and against liberal principles, identifying why no argument to date has been totally successful in convincing opponents, while maintaining that liberalism's ideas and language are still worth saving. From campus wars over academic freedom to the Charlie Hebdo attack and the murder of Samuel Paty, this is an indispensable guide for anyone wanting to understand the why, what and how of the post-liberal world. Russell Blackford is a philosopher, legal scholar, literary critic based at the University of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. He is the author of Freedom of Religion and the Secular State (2012), Humanity Enhanced (2014), The Mystery of Moral Authority (2016), and Science Fiction and the Moral Imagination (2017). Enjoy today's honest, heartwarming, and fun loving conversation with Harrison Blackford. Harrison Blackford is a Charleston, South Carolina based abstract and impressionist artist who believes there can never be enough color on a canvas. She enjoys using energetic colors and vibrant hues to inspire a work of art. Harrison is captivated by the fact that a single painting can illuminate a space and tie an entire room together. Her passionate use of color and energetic brushstrokes infuse her personality into each one of her expressive paintings.   Harrison grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and developed a deep interest in the arts and interior design at an early age. Later, studying art history and art at the University of the South: Sewanee, she continued to seek inspiration from historic artists as well as current artists of today. After her college years, she continued studying artists of new and old; In the summer of 2019, she had the chance to study the works and painting styles of Cezanne & Van Gogh in Aix-en-Provence, France. Harrison was fortunate to paint in the exact same locations where those artists painted some of their most famous works. To this day, this experience and the landscapes of Provence still serve as a constant influence for new work.   Over the past twelve years of her art career, Harrison's artwork has been featured in some of the most prolific art/home magazines, online publications, and blogs in the industry. This has led her to have shows across the United States and collaborate with many nationally known brands as well as interior designers.   Harrison Blackford Art Studio is located in downtown Charleston, S.C. The studio serves as a working gallery and studio space. While she is there painting, appointments and walk-ins are welcome. Having painted full time for twelve years, Harrison sells and ships her artwork internationally. She currently keeps all available pieces at the studio, which are also listed on her website. (www.harrisonblackford.com) Charleston continues to serve as an illuminating creative community for the fine arts and she is always finding inspiration in the landscape and architecture of the lowcountry. Harrison enjoys nothing more than a beautiful South Carolina day, windows up in her studio, and paint on her canvas. Feel free to contact the studio for any inquiries or to make a studio appointment.    www.harrisonblackford.com Instagram  - @harrisonblackfordart
