Part Two of the Chinese Cinema trilogy is a tribute Panel to the films of Jet Li. In this episode, I am joined for a lively discussion with two guests. Up first is author and film critic Outlaw Vern. Vern has been writing long thoughtful commentaries on action movies for two decades. He is the author of two novels Niketown and Worm on a Hook, and two non-fiction books about film. Those books include Seagalogy: A Study of the Ass-Kicking Films of Steven Seagal and “Yippee Ki-Yay Moviegoer!”: Writings on Bruce Willis, Badass Cinema and Other Important Topics. Also joining us is Matthew Szymanski he is scientist and podcaster. As co-host of Upper Pylon 2, a now-completed Star Trek Deep Space Nine rewatch podcast. Matt always brought some of my favorite commentaries on that show and this podcast was a result of our late-night twitter discussion about Jet Li. •You can find my books here: https://bookshop.org/contributors/david-agranoff Amazon-https://www.amazon.com/David-Agranoff/e/B004FGT4ZW •And me here: Goodreads-http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/2988332.David_Agranoff Twitter-https://twitter.com/DAgranoffAuthor Blog-http://davidagranoff.blogspot.com/

“This isn't going to go the way you think” With only 7 days until The Rise of Skywalker, podcasters from across the galaxy assemble for the ambitious task of reliving the thrills of all 8 films in the Star Wars Skywalker Saga. Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi is controversial, because Rian Johnson boldly decided to tell a story that subverts expectations. All of our submission except for one were generally positive. Our only negative submitter did not include an intro and therefore was not included in the episode. Despite being a HYPE podcast we totally welcome criticism, but oh well. “Chewie, we're home” With only 14 days until The Rise of Skywalker, podcasters from across the galaxy assemble for the ambitious task of reliving the thrills of all 8 films in the Star Wars Skywalker Saga. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens is a very pretty film, with great action, acting, music choreography, CGI, cinematography, and totally rips off episode IV, but in a good way. Listen to the episode to hear all about these and many more interesting things. I’m not totally rambling to meet googles quota On what is considered GOOD ENOUGH length for SEO. That would be dumb.... What we leave behind us is a wake of sadness at the ending of such a fun and rewarding experience.
Oh my! The second to last episode. We are really tying up some lose ends now. This week we put a bow on the Ferengi story and some of the beloved secondary and tertiary characters. Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to keep the convo going in feedback.
We officially say goodbye to Sloane and Section 31 *tears*. The UP2 cast thought there was one big misstep in this episode. Do you agree? Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to keep the convo going in feedback.
Gowron is up to no good this week, and Kira and her crew go on a desperate mission that could turn the tides of the war. Oh, and we cover a lot of feedback! Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to keep the convo going in feedback.
Sisko convinces Kira to aid the Cardassians and Bashir makes a critical discovery. Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to keep the convo going in feedback.
How do you top a holy crap moment to start the show? You add TWO more holy crap moments at the end. Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to keep the convo going in feedback.
The Dominion and the Breen negociate their alliance, and Ezri and Worf continue to do their thing even while being sentenced to death. Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to keep the convo going in feedback.
There really isn’t much time left. The roller coaster is continuing to go uphill. Prophets. Cardassians. Dominion. Breen. Worf I guess. This episode has everything! Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to keep the convo going in feedback.
Dr. Bashir becomes very much involved in a Section 31 plot against their “Allies”… the Romulans. That’s right, it is time once again for another thought-provoking and challenging Section 31 episode. Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to keep the convo going in feedback.
When holographic mobsters assume control of Vic Fontaine’s lounge, Bashir, O’Brien, and others plot to run Vic’s rival out of business and restore the program to normal. Come on, you have to agree this is a fun one, right? RIGHT? Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to keep the convo going in feedback.
Odo meets another of the hundred Changelings who were sent out to explore the galaxy. This was certainly an interesting episode to discuss. I might have been one of my favorite conversations in a while. Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to keep the convo going in feedback.
A murderous sniper is loose on the station. Who can stop the crime? That is right folks, another Ezri episode! I think it is fair to say this one is a bit more favorable than the last. That is our opinion at least. Also, could this be subtly one of the more anti-Roddenberry DS9 episodes? […]
We say goodbye to the Mirror Universe (as far as DS9 is concerned at least). Perhaps it slightly overstayed it’s welcome. Do you agree? Also, what the hell was the deal with Vic? Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to let us know your thoughts in feedback.
Ezri goes home this week and we get one hell of a mixed bag of an episode. There is some good here. There is (definitely) some bad here. Agree? Oh, and I forgot… the title doesn’t make any sense. Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to let us know your thoughts in feedback.
In the aftermath of an injury that left him disabled on AR-558, Nog returns to Deep Space 9, but finds he cannot go on living his uncertain life and seeks shelter within the fictional world of Vic Fontaine and Las Vegas, 1962. Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to let us know your thoughts in […]
This week on UP2, Hansen, Chis, and Blair take on the (sneaky good?) Kira and Dukat religious showdown episode, “Covenant.” Kira is kidnapped away to Empok Nor by Dukat, who has become the leader of a Bajoran Pah-Wraith cult. But is this one of Dukat’s schemes to gain admiration, or is his faith of the […]
During a supply run to AR-558, Sisko finds the defending Starfleet unit with over two-thirds of the troops dead and the remaining soldiers’ morale extremely low. When the Defiant comes under attack, Sisko, Bashir, Dax, Nog, and Quark choose to remain on the planet, which is about to come under attack by a much larger […]
We open this week with some very sad news. A good friend to the show, Matthias (@DS9Lover), recently passed away. We dedicate this episode to him. Please support a campaign to end myelodysplastic syndrome in Matthias’ name. https://www.gofundme.com/defeat-myelodysplastic-syndrome Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to let us know your thoughts in feedback.
This week on UP2, Smonskey and Chris are joined by guest Steve from Maryland to discuss the poignant and yet somehow funny episode, “Treachery, Faith, and the Great River.” Odo embarks on a reconnaissance mission and ends up meeting Weyoun Six, a clone that says he wants to defect from the Dominion. Meanwhile, Nog leads […]
For a while there it looked as if we had left the creepy Bashir behind us. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. The writers decided it was time for a romance episode, he drew the short straw, and this was the result. The UP2 crew and a special guest had some strong opinions. Tune in, enjoy, […]
Sisko leads the Niners in a battle to the death… well maybe not. Seriously, this is a classic, right? RIGHT? If you expected to find some light fluffy baseball episode hate, you came to the podcast. Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to let us know your thoughts in feedback.
There is a lot going on this week. We have Ezri with Sisko. We have Ezri with Garak. We have Ezri with Worf. We have Ezri with Quark. We have Ezri with Bashir. We have Ezri with Kira. Yeah, I guess we get a bit closer to Ezri this week. Tune in, enjoy, and be […]
Let’s really dig into Season 7, shall we?. Jadzia is sent off for good. The Prophets come back. Kira has balls of steel. The Cult of the Pah-wraith comes back! Well… most of that is true at least. Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to let us know your thoughts in feedback.
Here we go into the final stretch of DS9 and UP2! Season 7 begins with our characters continuing to pick up the pieces of the devastating end to season 6. Oh, and we get introduced to a new character. Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to let us know your thoughts in feedback.
The UP2 cast sends off the 6th season of DS9 in style with our favorite episode of each season… THE UPEE AWARDS! Let us know where the awards went wrong and what episodes should have been higher or lower in the season rankings.
This is a big one. It is an episode of transitions… for plot points, for characters, and for actors. What do the UPeers think of the Season 6 finale? Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to let us know your thoughts in feedback.
The sixth season is wrapping up. War? What war? We have time for a classic science fiction tale right? The Defiant picks up a distress call, and while charging to the rescue the crew discover some “new” things about themselves through some conversations. The episode is better than that description. Tune in, enjoy, and be […]
This week the love between Blair and Matt invades your earholes with this seminal time travel episode…what’s that? Oh you forgot about this one, well tune in and see what the hosts thought.
When Zek needs some help, the only path forward is to put Quark in drag. Are the results a classic farce or a tone-deaf episode that aged really poorly? UP2 will give you our options on the matter. Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to let us know your thoughts in feedback.
Well, it is time for this one. Blair loves it. So, now that that has been covered… What did the rest of the people think about this tricky one? Bonus awesome opinions provided by our good friend Bradox. Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to let us know your thoughts in feedback. Red Squad. RIP.
Who’d have thought this little episode is one of the most important in the entire series? That was certainly a bit of a surprise. What other surprises might the UP2 crew have in store? Tune in, enjoy, and be sure to let us know your opinion in feedback.
It finally happened. Odo and Kira are a couple. Most of us might like that, but did we all like the way they finally executed it? Tune in and find out, and be sure to let us know your opinion in feedback.
Sisko welcomes the Romulans into the war. Well folks, this is one of the big ones. I think we’ve all looked forward to this episode. Does it live up to our memories? Is it the best episode of DS9? Tune in and find out, and be sure to let us know your opinions in feedback.
This week we uncover the dirty side of the Federation with the discovery of Section 31. But really, how bad can they be? They are basically run by a Buffalo native. Pretty sweet. Enjoy and let us know in feedback how awesome Buffaloians are.
Kira goes time travelin’. The boys are all back together to discuss a very interesting episode. It was minimally very good, but was it an all-time classic? We certainly have a very spirited discussion. I think this was one of our favorite recording sessions. Listen and join the conversation in the feedback.
Oh my… could it be? An episode where the UP2 cast actually feels comfortable with the Worf and Dax relationship? Have a listen and find out. Don’t forget your feedback.
This week Matt Hansen joins us all the way from thenerdparty.com and Upper Pylon 2 on Trekmate.org.uk to have a bit of a catch up about Star Trek Beyond and the 50th anniversary.
