Episode Notes We begin the 5th season of Deep Space 9 with the 50th episode of PodSpace9! Buckle up, folks. Apocalypse Rising: HEIST! Sad formerly goo boy. The problem with prototypes. Oh good more questionable science. Dukat just wants a selfie. Kira is very pregnant. One of the greatest 4th wall breaking jokes in Star Trek, or possibly TV, history. Sisko really digs being a Klingon. Weapons vs. Worf's lying ability. Sometimes you need a room full of Klingons with guns. Gowron knows many layers of battle. The Ship: Another war episode, but quite different from the fun one last time. This may be the last Trek episode about The Cold War. The cast devolves into their worst selves. Sisko lays out DS9's themes for the next three seasons. The Dominion only sees zero-sum games. If you get a nickname, ya dead. BabSpace9 is a production of the Okay, So network. Last time on ST:TNGeez, Not Another Star Trek Podcast, Worf had resigned from Starfleet to fight alongside Gowron in the Klingon civil war. Honestly, if you want to know all the ins and outs of this bloody conflict, you need to listen to the last episode because it's . . . It's a lot. Suffice to say that it's newly ascended chancellor Gowron vs. the Duras family who are being backed by those sneaky old Romulans. Those little stinkers are smuggling supplies to the Duras-es (or Duras family), and Picard just ain't having it. Being the flagship and all, the Enterprise leads a coalition of 20 starships to form a blockade along the Klingon/Romulan border. Try sneaking your cloaked ships past that, Romulans! Of course they do, but little do they know that one of those 20 ships is under the command of everyone's favorite robot, Data! If you ever wanted to see how your favorite robot would drive one of these Galaxy-Classes - well… Robot drives! All this and we haven't even mentioned that Romlan Tasha Yar lookalike, Commander Sela! Will Worf finally be treated with respect now that he's among his own -- the Klingons? Will Picard find out the secret behind Commander Sela's origins? Will Troi and Bev get any more than ten lines each in this episode? Find out in this exciting all-new episode of ST:TNGeez, Not Another Star Trek Podcast!Even more available at: https://tngeez.com

Ever wanted to watch a bunch of Klingons talking about politics? Sounds like loads of fun to us! It's the end of Season 4 at least with episode 26, “Redemption Part 1! Okay, here we go! It's the giant season cliffhanger, and after last season's “Best of Both Worlds” Borg-a-thon, this is going to be a doozy! It's all the Klingon politics you could ever want as Gowron ascends to head of the empire while Picard dutifully performs his role as Arbiter of Succession. Why is a Starfleet officer performing such a politically charged role for the empire? Never mind because there are other things to worry about as Gowron's claim is challenged by the newly-discovered son of his dead rival Duras who was killed by Worf after Duras killed K'helyr who had given birth to Worf's son and and and Oy! What a mess! But we get to meet the Duras sisters, Lursa and B'hetor, who have Picard over for tea and scalp stroking! Worf's brother Kurn is back! There are space battles! Worf resigns! Finally, the shadowy Romulan figure from “The Mind's Eye” steps out into the light, and it's . . . Tasha Yar? Whaaaaaaaa?Even more available at: https://tngeez.com

The collective sigh of rut roh when Geordi sees Acquiel for the first time ... in that WIG! It's a murder mystery unlike you've ever seen before with a shape-shifting body-snatching thing eating dogs and taking names. The Klingons are here and Gowron's name gets thrown around, which is a nice touch. In today's episode we're having a look at Worf, a character who's a rare series regular between two whole Star Trek shows. We wanted to have a look at some early stories of him in both TNG and DS9 and they both ended up being about bad actors wanting to ‘Make Qo'NoS Great Again' in their own ways. First we've got some rebellious Klingons making trouble in the Neutral Zone and Worf's first time being torn between his new friends and his work friends in “Heart of Glory”. Then we're over to some rash decisions from the Klingon Empire as they decide to invade Cardassia right after it's had a rebellion against its own government in “Way of the Warrior Parts 1 & 2”. This is a big, status quo changing episode with a lot of fun guest stars like friend of the pod Gul Dukat, Martok and the glorious eyes of Gowron. 0:19:39 TNG: Heart of Glory 0:49:49 DS9: Way of the Warrior Part 1 & 2 Just so you know Miles was beeping a little as the batteries on his explosive collar were running low. I edited around the beeps a lot, but there are a few still in there. - C Talking points include: our reasons for covering this episode, manifesting a god by having enough people scream at a road, The Exorcist, Brad Dourif being a moist serial killer, Brad Dourif being a good egg in Deadwood, Goodfellas (apparently that is Ray Liotta's real laugh), the works of M-Scoz, Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley, Bill Bailey's Klingonness, Blake's 7, Classic Doctor Who, The Simpsons, ValSpeak, Shenmue, Wing Commander, The Young Ones, Babylon 5, Red Dwarf, Brian K Vaughan, Mystique, Star Wars and space battles, event comics, and Gengar. Oh, and occasionally Star Trek. Pedant's Corner: Sweeps weeks are when people like Nielsen do their ratings calculations, so channels often pulled big stunts to try and get people watching. We didn't know AGIMUS was going to come back when this was recorded The decision and placement of Way of the Warrior was quick, even if it was sidetracked by several tangents Casual Trek is by Charlie Etheridge-Nunn and Miles Reid-Lobatto Music by Alfred Etheridge-Nunn Casual Trek is a part of the Nerd & Tie Network https://ko-fi.com/casualtrek Miles' blog: http://www.mareidlobatto.wordpress.com Charlie's blog: http://www.fakedtales.com

Ryan and Brady examine a TNG mid-series Klingon episode and discover that it is one of the most narratively important outings of Imperial Phase Trek. There's a lot to talk about, but of course, we focus on the introduction of perhaps the most famous, and the most infamous, recurring Klingon characters of all time: Gowron and Alexander.

Mr. Picard, the Klingons turn their lonely hearts to you. Gowron, Worf and Kurn team up for the ultimate showdown vs. the sisters of Duras and his lowly son for the crown of the Klingon High Council. Focusing on Worf, Picard gives really inconsistent advice - "Save your family name like the Klingon you are! No, but you can't use Federation resources." Oh, also, we're not going to protect the legal leader of our allies. We get some badass scenes from Guinan, and Worf does the ultimate sacrifice ... until the next season. Enter Denise Crosby! Paul as a Nazi officer in the two-part "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "The Killing Game" and another one in the Enterprise episode "Storm Front," the Borg named One from "the VOY episode "Drone," the Cardassian officer named Vornar from DS9 "Tacking Into The Wind," and the Vulcan who found a new home named Mestral from the classic ENT episode "Carbon Creek." He also did voices in the Bridge Commander game and played Gowron's brother in "Klingon Academy" on PC. In this honest, informative, and emotional interview, J. Paul told us stories from his theater days and how one show led to his first Star Trek role as the Nazi from VOY, playing another Nazi years later in Enterprise while performing with Scott Bakula (and why one Naiz had a German accent and the other didn't). J. Paul also fondly recalled the heartwarming story about his Vulcan ears from ENT, the intense makeup to play this brand new style of Borg in "Drone" and the hardships of wearing that much prosthetics and neoprene, how playing a Borg helped him become a better Vulcan, meeting Christopher Plummer while working on the game, and much more! We also have some Star Trek adjacent talks about being in "The Orville" with three other heavily made-up aliens and working with Seth McFarlane and Adrian Palecki, Plus, performing a play that literally combined "Hamlet" with "Death of A Salesman" called "Haplet," acting side by side with Kelsey Grammer in "Frasier," "The Thomas Crowne Affair," and more! I am Tosk!" Scott MacDonald's Star Trek Career, Part 1 Scott MacDonald has had some of the most substantial guest star roles throughout Star Trek, all while playing aliens covered from head to toe in makeup and prosthetics. Even more peculiar, Scott's first two Star Trek roles practically aired back to back when they first ran on television, an extremely rare thing to happen even today! We discuss his first role in Trek (and on TV) as Tosk in the first season Star Trek DS9 episode "Captive Pursuit," and he followed that up by playing a Romulan named N'Vek in the sixth season TNG episode "Face of the Enemy." After that, he played Gowron's brother in the "Star Trek: Klingon" PC game, directed by Jonathan Frakes and working alongside Robert O'Reilly! Scott gives us some of the most in-depth behind-the-scenes Star Trek stories ever to tell us about the horrors of his makeup routine as Tosk, including contacts that caused searing pain to his eyes, the special things he asked of the writers as that character, gearing up to be a Romulan while still wearing his Tosk makeup, why N'Vek was supposed to be a recurring character in TNG and what stopped that from happening, performing with Colm Meaney, Marina Sirtis, Carolyn Seymour, and the mayhem of working on the Klingon PC game. Plus, the ties between Star Trek and Shakespeare, the incredibly long and arduous audition process to land the Tosk role, a surreal encounter with Patrick Stewart, and another even more odd moment with Richard Gere, the six-hour epic play "The Kentucky Cycle," the way he understands his alien characters inside and out, stories from "Three Ninjas Knuckle Up," a hilarious story from Charles Napier about William Shatner, and much more. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: By Inferno's Light Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 5 episode 15 of Rebinge Deep Space Nine: By Inferno's Light! We wrap up our two-part story with lots of guest stars! We have Marc Alaimo as Gul Dukat, Melanie Smith as Ziyal, Andrew Robinson as Garak, JG Heltzler as Martok and Robert O'Reilly as Gowron. Not only do we need to survive the onslaught of Jem'Hadar ships from the end of last week's episode but we need to get Worf back to the Alpha Quadrant! By Inferno's Light We quickly put the death of Garak's dad behind us and try to figure out how to get the heck out of the internment camp. Back on the station we learn that Dukat has been up to no good for a long time and has aligned himself with the Dominion in order to become ruler of all of Cardassia (this seems like a very short-sighted plan). But maybe the biggest secret in this episode is the dark plan that Dukat and the Dominion have to destroy the Bajoran sun. Yikes! What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Apocalypse Rising Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 5 episode 1 of Rebinge Deep Space Nine. This week it's Apocalypse Rising! So dramatic with the title! And we start of season 5 the same way we started off season 4: with Klingons!! You know what that means, smoke filled rooms, lots of blood wine and head butts. Don't say we didn't warn you! Apocalypse Rising It's been a while since we had a terrible DS9 plan...well this episode is here to fill the gap. We dress up Odo, Miles and Sisko as Klingons and we head into a Klingon ceremony to expose Gowron as a Founder. Well this plan is terrible so things go wrong in a pretty dramatic way. What we learn here is Sisko makes a good Klingon, Odo and Miles...not so much. What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Please listen to some of our favorite episodes like Duet, The Visitor or Heart of Stone and check out the previous episode our Season 4 Wrap Up. Next time... Join us next week for S5E2: The Ship. Robert O'Reilly (Gowron) and J.G. Hertzler (Martok) Join Marc Okrand, Creator of the Klingon Language As Escape Velocity Extra Explores Klingon Culture Wednesday night, September 23, 7:00 p.m. ET   Washington, DC (September 14, 2020) – Actors Robert O'Reilly (Gowron) from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and J.G. Hertzler (Martok) from Star Trek: Deep Space 9, will commandeer the spotlight Wednesday evening, September 23, when Escape Velocity Extra (EVX) takes a comprehensive look at Klingon culture.  The online program – entitled Communicating with Klingons – Interpreting Alien Language and Culture – will air at 7:00 p.m. ET.  The cost is a $5 donation to the not-for-profit Museum of Science Fiction.   As the most recognizable and extensively developed alien race in all of science fiction, Klingons bring the greatest level of depth and development to not only the Star Trek universe but really the entire world of popular culture.  After all, who among us hasn't called a child strapped to one's leg a “Cling-On?”  Or equated the concept of honor to the legacy of Kahless the Unforgettable?    Directing the program will be Okrand, who initially created Vulcan language dialogue for Leonard Nimoy (Spock) and Kristie Alley (Saavik) for the film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.  He was hired by Paramount Pictures to invent the Klingon language and then coach the actors in three subsequent films and later created the Kelpien language for the Star Trek: Discovery Short Trek episode, The Brightest Star.   The September 23 program will consist of a single 90-minute session.   For additional information, or to register, please visit https://escapevelocity.events/evx/.
