The George Lucas Talk Show returned to Dynasty Typewriter on July 11 to stage a live reading of the original Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker film. The production featured an incredible cast of comedians and actors putting their own spin on Rey, Finn, Poe, Kylo Ren, Emperor Palpatine, and more. The all-star cast included Taran Killam (Saturday Night Live, Single Parents), Lou Wilson (Dimension 20, Jimmy Kimmel Live!), Vic Michaelis (Very Important People, PONIES), Patton Oswalt (Ratatouille, The Goldbergs), Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother, The Avengers), Paul F. Tompkins (BoJack Horseman, Mr. Show), Missi Pyle (Galaxy Quest, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), and surprise guest Rich Sommer (Mad Men, The Devil Wears Prada) as Force ghost Luke Skywalker. You can watch at swliveread.com. Sarah then shares her review of Disney's live-action Moana. How does this new interpretation compare with the beloved animated film? We discuss the cast, music, breathtaking scenery, expanded mythology, and whether this remake successfully recaptures the heart of the original. Read her full review here. The masterminded Darth Sidious, aka Chancellor Palpatine (we flip back and forth between the two this entire episode), had a grand plan that impacted an entire galaxy over decades of time...but there was always one thorn in his side for many of those years: the one and only Obi-Wan Kenobi. We thought it would be interesting to delve into all the ways Kenobi thwarted Palpatine's plans, be it intentionally or unintentionally, and how him being a general pain in Palp's ass turned things around for the galaxy as a whole. In the vast universe of Star Wars, the Jedi have long been viewed as the guardians of peace and justice. On paper, the Jedi Order seemed to be thriving during the prequel trilogy with thousands of members and significant presence. Within the Galactic Republic, they appeared to wield immense influence. Instead, some became entangled in a system, that often compromises their core values. The Jedi order faced internal divisions that stemmed from differing opinions about Anakin Skywalker, the chosen one. This lack of consensus, created an environment of uncertainty that permeated The Order. With the rise of Palpatine and the shifting tides of power, the Jedi‘s role became increasingly ambiguous. Enter stage left, The Sith Order! The Sith are an order of Force-sensitive beings and the main antagonist in the Star Wars universe. The dark side rises as The Commentary Booth hosts, Jamie Apps and Corrina Mabey, conclude their journey through the Star Wars prequel trilogy with a deep dive into Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.Widely regarded as the strongest entry in the prequel saga, Revenge of the Sith delivers the tragic downfall of Anakin Skywalker, the rise of Darth Vader, the execution of Order 66, and the birth of the Galactic Empire. But does the film truly earn its reputation, or is it simply the best of a flawed trilogy?Jamie and Corrina break down the film's darker tone, Shakespearean tragedy, and iconic moments, including Anakin's fateful turn to the dark side, Obi-Wan's heartbreaking confrontation on Mustafar, and Palpatine's masterfully orchestrated rise to power. Along the way, they discuss whether Anakin's visions of Padmé ultimately caused the very future he was trying to prevent, the effectiveness of Order 66, General Grievous' brief but memorable role, and how the film bridges the gap to the original trilogy.Highlights Breakdown: - Why Revenge of the Sith remains the standout film of the prequel trilogy - The inevitability of Anakin Skywalker's tragic fall to the dark side - Breaking down Palpatine's galaxy-spanning manipulation and long-term strategy - The emotional impact of Order 66 and the destruction of the Jedi Order - General Grievous, his unique design, and the surprising origin of his cough - Whether the story would have worked better as a prestige television series - The pair also examine the movie's biggest weaknesses, from its lengthy runtime and uneven pacing to some questionable CGI choices that haven't aged particularly gracefully. - Is Revenge of the Sith the masterpiece many fans claim it is, or simply a satisfying conclusion to an otherwise inconsistent trilogy? The Star Wars 50th Anniversary celebration continues on The Commentary Boothas Jamie Apps and Corrina Mabey dive headfirst into one of the franchise's most divisive chapters, Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones.Set 10 years after The Phantom Menace, the galaxy is on the brink of civil war. Anakin Skywalker is no longer the bright-eyed child destined for greatness, he's reckless, emotional, and already showing signs of the darkness to come. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan Kenobi uncovers a mysterious clone army, Count Dooku begins pulling strings behind the scenes, and Padmé Amidala somehow ends up trapped in one of cinema's most awkward romances.Jamie and Corrina hold nothing back as they dig into why Attack of the Clones is widely considered the low point of the Skywalker Saga — from the notoriously painful script (locked in just three days before cameras rolled), to the all-CGI arena battle that left its own cast looking confused, to Anakin's legendary sand monologue that somehow became one of Star Wars' most iconic, even if unintentionally hilarious, moments. But it's not all criticism. The duo also celebrate what actually works: the subtle visual storytelling genius of clone troopers always moving right-to-left on screen, the sheer joy of Samuel L. Jackson demanding a purple lightsaber and getting it, Christopher Lee's undeniable gravitas as Count Dooku, the first glimpse of the Death Star blueprints, and a sly Jango Fett head-bang Easter egg that Disney has since made even better.Highlights Breakdown: - Why Attack of the Clones remains the most controversial Star Wars prequel - Breaking down the awkward Anakin and Padmé romance - The political themes and rise of Palpatine's power - Samuel L. Jackson demanding a purple lightsaber - The evolution of CGI and why parts of the film haven't aged well - Yoda's first lightsaber battle and “flippy-do” combat - Behind-the-scenes trivia about the rushed screenplay and production - Whether you're a die-hard Star Wars fan, a casual viewer revisiting the prequels, or someone who just needs to hear two people validate your feelings about this film — this is the episode for you. This week's episode is brought to you byAustralian Wrestling CardsCheck out more great content from Pario Magazine on our website.-------------------------------------------------------------SUPPORT PARIO MAGAZINE & THE COMMENTARY BOOTH- PATREON- BUY MERCH- AMAZON PRIME VIDEO- TUBEBUDDY- Subscribe to AEW Plus using my code (q0yydoz) to earn $10 in FITE credit- Shop Online With Honey- Shop Online With SatechiMY EQUIPMENT- Elgato Facecam- Rode PodMic- Elgato Wave Mic Arm LP- Streamlabs Talk StudioFOLLOW JAMIE ON SOCIAL MEDIA- Twitter- Facebook- Instagram- TikTokFOLLOW PARIO MAGAZINE ON SOCIAL MEDIA- Twitter- Facebook- Instagram

This week we swerve into racing game nostalgia, Star Wars Galactic Racer, and the eternal question of whether Star Wars fans actually like Star Wars. We break down The Rise of Skywalker's infamous “somehow Palpatine returned” problem, react to early buzz around the next Mando/Grogu adventure, and get weirdly excited about the Garfield Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair drop. Then we fully derail into Red Bull Crocs, chat-powered Star Wars Mad Libs, The Punisher, Big City Greens, and Christopher Lee.. We also reminisce about our favorite Star Wars experiences, ramble on with stories of the good ol' days, nerd out about current and upcoming Star Wars shows, books, and games, and talk a little bit about life. Thank you so much for supporting our channel! We love interacting with all of you! Hunter is taking a quick break this week, so Jessica is joined by the man behind the curtain—The Purrgil Pod's very own editor, Darryl! Darryl wastes absolutely no time coming in hot with a controversial take: Maul: Shadow Lord is the greatest Star Wars show ever made (sorry, Andor fans). The Empire has officially locked down Janix, and a very freckled Lieutenant Blake is here to ruin everyone's day. As Chief Clyice faces a highly suspicious "permanent" transfer, Captain Lawson tries to survive the Imperial Inquisition the only way he knows how—by consuming an absolutely dangerous, unhinged amount of caf. Meanwhile, Two Boots starts to rethink his life (?) choices, and Maul gets a much-needed mechanical knee tune-up after taking a brutal kick to the shin from Uncle Daki. The action hits overdrive in episode six with burning apartments, rooftop escapes, and a classic Indiana Jones-style lightsaber showdown on top of a moving train. When the menacing Inquisitor Marrok finally corners Devon, Maul steps in to save the day, prompting Darryl to officially call his shot: Devon is definitely going to become Maul's new apprentice. Plus, Jessica and Darryl debate the true identity of a mysterious, hooded hologram. Is it Palpatine, or did Vader just step out of the bacta tank?Join us on Facebook: The Purrgil Pod. Maul doesn't threaten Devon — he listens to her, needles her anger, and offers to be whatever monster she needs him to be. Matthew and Alex dig into episodes three and four of Maul: Shadow Lord, breaking down why Maul's approach to dark side recruitment is so much more effective than anything Palpatine ever tried, and what it means for where Devon is heading. The hosts debate the droid at the center of the episode's most divisive moment.  Is Two Boots a narc, a snitch, or just a cop following his programming, and pull that thread into a bigger conversation about free will, droid autonomy, and what it takes for a character like this to switch sides. Meanwhile, the Empire is closing in, and the fault lines between Devon and her master Daki are starting to show. From a one-handed lightsaber duel that's really a power move in disguise, to speculation about Inquisitors, surprise voice actors, and whether a certain character bisected on screen is actually dead — this is a fun, fast-moving reaction conversation with a lot to say about one of Star Wars animation's most exciting new chapters.Mentioned in This EpisodeThe Clone WarsStar Wars RebelsThe AcolyteAndor**************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, an Ethical Panda podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. A heist on a crime-syndicate planet, a “Duel of the Fates” needle drop that hasn't been heard since The Phantom Menace, and a Sith lord who barely has to break a sweat... Maul is off to a hell of a start. Matthew and Alex welcome TruStory FM co-owner Pete Wright to break down the first two episodes of the new animated series, set in the lawless underworld of Janix at the dawn of the Empire. The conversation covers the Blade Runner-meets-cop-noir world-building, the “sandwich prequel” problem of writing a character whose beginning and end we already know, and the big question: can Maul sustain eight episodes as a title character? Matthew makes the case that Maul is a Cassandra figure — he sees Palpatine's plan clearly and completely, but his methods mean no one will listen to him. Meanwhile, Pete brings a sharp outside perspective on what the show owes to Andor's willingness to let crime politics breathe. There's also spirited debate over Devin Izara and her Jedi master, whether the show's hallway fight scene has earned its place in a now-crowded genre, and where Crimson Dawn fits into Maul's long game — because Palpatine, as it turns out, is playing Candyland, and the outcome was never really in doubt.Star Wars Generations**************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, an Ethical Panda podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. Pong Krell doesn't just make the clones suffer; he makes the audience question everything the Republic claims to stand for. Matthew and Alex dig into The Clone Wars' Umbara arc, one of the darkest and most ethically uncompromising storylines in all of Star Wars, in which a Jedi general treats the 501st as expendable cannon fodder, refuses to learn their names, and engineers a situation where clone kills clone. This is Star Wars Generations Podcast, where different generational perspectives meet every corner of the galaxy. The conversation moves from the Umbarans as an uncomfortable allegory for resource-driven invasion, to the specific character arcs of Rex, Fives, and Dogma, to a genuine debate about whether the arc's big Krell reveal is a bold storytelling choice or a missed opportunity. Matthew argues the show flinches by making Krell a calculated traitor rather than a Jedi genuinely broken by war. Alex thinks the horror lands either way. They also get into whether Palpatine deliberately set this whole situation in motion — and what it means for Order 66 that clone trust in the Jedi was already fracturing here. What makes the Umbara arc so enduring is that it works on every level at once: it's a war story, a character study, a political parable, and a piece of dark foreshadowing that pays off across multiple seasons. Fives, Rex, and Dogma all leave Umbara different people, and this episode tracks exactly how and why. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, an Ethical Panda podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. With Matthew out of town, Alex and Erin take over Star Wars Generations to dig into Maul's arc across The Clone Wars Seasons 4 and 5: the Death Watch alliance, the takeover of Mandalore, and the cold, calculated murder of Satine — engineered specifically to break Obi-Wan.The hosts trace how Maul goes from drifting through space to ruling a planet and commanding multiple crime syndicates in a matter of weeks, and what it reveals about his obsession with Kenobi. They also reckon with Palpatine's stunning arrival on Mandalore — dual-wielding lightsabers, dissolving Savage to nothing — and what it means that the Emperor kept Maul alive on purpose. Plus: the tragic arc of Savage Opress, Almec's return as a puppet ruler, and the surprisingly deep roots these episodes put down for The Mandalorian, Rebels, and everything that came after.Related episodes: Maul's revival in S4 E21–22 · The Box arc with Embo, S4 E15–18**************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, an Ethical Panda podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. Darth Maul Shadow Lord will show a more progressive version of Maul where he now respects the Jedi in comparison to Palpatine and the Empire. I see the pattern that studios keep taking darker characters by giving them strong morality checks and while this is true in life and character progression, I don't think ALL characters should get a dose of this. Like Kratos for example, he was too different in the Norse games compared to the Greek ones. Yes, character progression and changed thinking is a thing, but I think Maul could still despise the Jedi while hating the Empire all the same like his character always did. Him switching up and respecting the Jedi now shows his own weakness that just because Papa Palpatine hurt him, now he's going to go softer on the ones who (he thinks) destroyed his life. Anakin lets someone die to keep his cover. That's where The Clone Wars Season 4 goes in episodes 11–13, and Matthew and Erin are here for every uncomfortable moment of it. Erin brought these three episodes as her Season 4 picks for Star Wars Generations, the show where hosts with different generational lenses dig into every corner of the Star Wars universe together. The arc: Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and Rex go undercover to dismantle the resurgent Zygerrian slave empire, and almost everyone comes out of it a little darker.Matthew and Erin trace the arc's argument that Palpatine's war has been quietly breaking the Jedi this whole time; normalizing moral compromise, putting Jedi in situations they were never built for, and handing Anakin one impossible choice after another. They dig into the Zygerrian Queen's argument that Jedi are just slaves to the Republic, Obi-Wan's torture-as-strategy, Anakin's escalating use of lethal force, Anakin showing a flirting talent he never had in the prequels, and the devastating final question: if the Jedi once destroyed an entire slave empire, why did they never go back for Tatooine?Erin also brings a close eye to the Togrutan colonists—their distinct biology, culture, and what their vulnerability in this arc means for Ahsoka's relationship to her own people. And Rex closes it out with one of the best lines in the series. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, an Ethical Panda podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. Marvel's Star Wars: Jar Jar #1 one-shot debuts this week and it's a solid story that captures the intricacies of not just the Gungan dealing with the ramifications of his push to give Palpatine emergency powers, but also provides readers with a long-game view of how rebellions are birthed and maintained. Fans of Star Wars: Rebels are in for a treat, too, as are those of Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, as this story leaves open endless possibilities for the character through the Original and Sequel Trilogy eras.Comics Discussed This Week:Jar Jar Binks #1 One-ShotStar Wars Comics New to Marvel Unlimited This Week:

It's Star Wars Podcast Day 2026, and we're bringing the Star Wars community a very special episode with a new "What If" scenario. This time we're asking: What if Anakin had told Obi-Wan, instead of Mace Windu, that Palpatine was a Sith? What would have happened? Assuming Obi-Wan was not on Utapau and was instead on Coruscant at the time, what would the outcome have been? Would anything be different, or would it have remained the same? We propose many scenarios throughout this episode, but we also want to hear from you - what do YOU think would have happened? Was Anakin too far gone? Would Obi-Wan have died instead of Mace, and thus changed the entire course of Luke and Leia's futures? There's so much to ponder, and what better occasion than Star Wars Podcast Day to muse it over? (And of course we want to give a special thanks to our amazing patrons for providing the idea for this episode!) Maul Returns: Breaking Down the Shadow Lord Trailer and His Clone Wars SurvivalThe Star Wars timeline between Revenge of the Sith and Rebels remains one of the franchise's most intriguing periods, and the upcoming Maul: Shadow Lord series drops us right into the early Imperial era. With the trailer now public, we're revisiting how Maul survived being bisected in The Phantom Menace and examining the Clone Wars episodes that revealed his shocking return, along with the trailer itself. From spider-legged madness to criminal syndicate mastermind, Maul's journey through the underworld of the galaxy takes center stage as he faces Inquisitors, builds his empire, and potentially trains a new apprentice in Darth Talon. In this episode, we discuss:When does Maul: Shadow Lord take place in the Star Wars timeline, and how does it connect to The Bad Batch and Solo? What are Maul's motivations during the early Imperial era, and why is he building a criminal empire? How does the character of Savage Opress differ from Maul in his approach to brutality and the dark side? Why does Maul constantly seek apprentices, and what does this reveal about his psychological state after being abandoned by Palpatine? What makes the Clone Wars episodes revealing Maul's survival so important for understanding his character arc?How does Maul's obsession with both destroying and mimicking the Sith master-servant dynamic define his actions?**************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. We return to the final days of the old Republic. But not the Old Republic. That's different, now, that's like... an even older time before all this. Anyway, the Battle of Coruscant has concluded and its heroes, Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi can finally come home for a little rest. And a little scheming. And a little paranoia. The Jedi Council members spin their wheels despite having all the clues. Palpatine spins the world around his finger. And Padme, Anakin's Wife (remember this), is also there.
