This week's Patreon request takes Tread Perilously 20 minutes into the future with an episode of Max Headroom called "Academy." When a group of zippers hijack the Network 23 signal one too many times, Bryce is charged with finding the miscreants so severe penalties can be brought against them. But already knowing the truth, he redirects the location trace to Blank Reg's RV. He assumes the televised judicial system will soon drop the charges as it is clear Reg lacks the ability to zip the network, but a more obscure law makes Reg look guiltier than sin. Will Max and Edison Carter convince Bryce to come clean or will Reg end up reduced to discrete atoms? Justin falls in love with the "twenty minutes into the future" tagline. Erik gets into the nitty-gritty of how Max came to be in reality and in the fiction of the series. Justin defends the cast of Super Mario Bros. He also picks fights with several public figures. Erik revels in the presence of W. Morgan Sheppard. The pair debate the "too much" elements of Twin Peaks's second season. Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Episode IX get re-litigated -- well, a little bit, anyway. The "Max Headroom Incident" gets discussed and the ghost of F. Lee Bailey haunts the Tread Perilously virtual studio.

Host Greg Iwinski talks to Rian Johnson about his latest project, the rich tradition of destination vacation murder mysteries, the joys of the theatrical experience, and the value of a good notebook. Rian Johnson is a writer and director who made his feature film debut with the 2005 neo-noir mystery BRICK. He went on to write and direct several critically acclaimed films, including the caper dramedy THE BROTHERS BLOOM in 2008, the sci-fi thriller LOOPER in 2012, and STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI in 2017. In 2019 he returned to the mystery genre with KNIVES OUT (2019), which earned him Academy and Writers Guild Award nominations for Original Screenplay. His latest writing-directing credit is GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT STORY. In this sequel to the 2019 film, famed detective Benoit Blanc travels to Greece to peel back the layers of a mystery surrounding a tech billionaire and his eclectic crew of friends. GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT STORY was released in theaters in November 2022 and on Netflix in December 2022, and is currently available to stream on Netflix. “I loved movies. I wanted to be on set. I wanted to be in the mix,” said Noah Segan, who is perhaps best known for being in every Rian Johnson movie (Brick, The Brothers Bloom, Looper, Breaking Bad, Knives Out, Star Wars - The Last Jedi). Currently, Noah is the star-writer-director of Blood Relatives. The story follows “a vampire's loner lifestyle is thrown into disarray when a teenager shows up claiming to be his daughter, and she's got the fangs to prove it. On a road trip across America's blacktops, they decide how to sink their teeth into family life.” In this interview, Noah talks about lessons from Rian Johnson, his love for genre filmmaking, why actors like short scripts, why screenwriters struggle with over-exposition, and how writers can fast-track their stories with bullet outlines. In Star Wars we see Stormtroopers easily die from one single blaster shot, or do they? We'll go into the origins of their armor, what it was made from, and how certain enemies caused them fatalities or mere injuries.  Palpatine has accomplished a lot...which we saw most of in Star Wars Revenge of the Sith...however there were some things he didn't care for...and that was the quality of his troops. He felt numbers were the most important thing...whereas the First Order is focusing mostly on how well they perform. This makes a much better fit when backing Kylo Ren vs Darth Vader in the Original Trilogy. I wonder how Snoke's Praetorian Guards will behave in Star Wars The Last Jedi...They're supposed to have a very action packed scene in the film to demonstrate their power...I'm pumped!
