Infant Holy, Infant Lowly Polish Carol E.M.G. Reed (English) Infant holy, infant lowly, for His bed a cattle stall;Oxen lowing, little knowing, Christ the Babe is Lord of all. Swift are winging, Angels singing, Nowells ringing, Tidings bringing: Christ the Babe is Lord of all. Flocks were sleeping, Shepherds keeping vigil till the morning new.Saw the glory, heard the story, tidings of a Gospel true. Thus rejoicing, free from sorrow, praises voicing, greet the morrow,Christ the Babe was born for you.

Wrapping-up the 2021 Doing Business in New Orleans season is a true, rags to riches story. Another incubator-style, informal production, with stuff found along the way. That may or may not fit into full-length Letters Read, Louisiana and New Orleans-centric, programming. This material surfaced while researching the Clay Shaw story. That story is postponed until 2022. Shaw is referred to more than once in this reading because there's a rhyme in it, a theme that repeats in this story, and in Clay Shaw's. Throughout, the reader is Letters Read Director, Nancy Sharon Collins. Additionally, a link to the 2008 panel discussion referred to in this broadcast is HERE. And a link to the other referred-to party, a Letters Read Executive Advisor, Michel Varisco, is HERE. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/letters-read/message

Find the syllabus for this talk here: https://tinyurl.com/4bjua79p This talk was given on October 16, 2021 at the University of Maryland. For more information on upcoming events, please visit our website at www.thomisticinstitute.org About the speaker: Michael Pakaluk received his Ph.D. in philosophy at Harvard University, where he studied philosophical logic with W.V. Quine, Burton Dreben, and Warren Goldfarb, philosophy of science with Hilary Putnam, and political philosophy with John Rawls. Rawls directed his dissertation, “Aristotle's Theory of Friendship,” and Sarah Broadie (then at Yale) also served on the thesis committee. Pakaluk counts as his main philosophical influences: Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas, Thomas Reid, and John Henry Newman. He encountered all four as a Marshall Scholar at the University of Edinburgh, where he wrote a thesis on Hume's Dialogues ("Hume's Naturalism and the Argument from Design"), became an expert in the main figures of the Scottish Enlightenment, and studied Aquinas and Newman under the guidance of the Dominican fathers there. Pakaluk's main work as a researcher has been in ancient philosophy, as he has authored many papers and three books concerned with Aristotelian ethics: Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, books VIII and IX (Oxford); Aristotle's Ethics: An Introduction (Cambridge); and (with Giles Pearson) Moral Psychology and Human Action in Aristotle (Oxford). His work is typified by the drawing of philosophical consequences from careful attention to philological considerations. His deeper concern is the recovery of a just appreciation of the classical outlook. Pakaluk has held appointments of Associate Professor at Clark University in Massachusetts--where he also served in a long and distinguished tenure as the Director of the Boston Area Colloquium in Ancient Philosophy--and as full Professor at the Institute for the Psychological Sciences and at Ave Maria University. He has been Visiting Professor of Philosophy at Brown University and at Santa Croce (Rome), Visiting Scholar in Classics at Cambridge University, and Visiting Scholar in Public Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews. His blog, Dissoi Bloggoi, currently inactive, has been influential in classical philosophy. His opinion pieces have appeared in First Things, Crisis, and the Boston Pilot. The account of his conversion and life with his late wife, Ruth, is found in the best-selling book, The Appalling Strangeness of the Mercy of God, published by Ignatius Press. In 2011 he was appointed an Ordinarius of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas. Pakaluk's avocations include golf, tennis, hiking, the french horn, espresso drinks and single malt scotch. His skill in mixing cocktails has won him among friends the moniker, "Cardinal Martini." Works (songs) cited: Elgar, Edward. "The Dream of Gerontius, Op. 38: Part I Prelude." As St. John the Baptist calls us to repentance, St. Paul calls us to true joy. Their calls are one and the same, and the biggest obstacle to following that call is sin. Sin distorts our desires for the good into temptations to what harms us- so how do we make sure our desires stay holy?
Hosted by Andrew Quinn and Darren Mooney, this week joined by special guest Grace Duffy, The 250 is a (mostly) weekly trip through some of the best (and worst) movies ever made, as voted for by Internet Movie Database Users. New episodes are released every second Saturday at 6pm GMT, with the occasional bonus episode between them. This time, Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi. A long time ago in a galaxy far away, the First Order and the Resistance struggle for control of the cosmos. Things are looking particularly grim, as the heroes find themselves divided; Rey is on a mission to recruit the lost Jedi master Luke Skywalker, Poe finds himself trying to hold the remnents of the fleet together, and Finn embarks on a journey to a wretched hive of scum and villainy. At time of recording, it was not ranked on the list of the best movies of all time on the Internet Movie Database.

Cine en la Fundación: Cine social (VIII). Presentación de "Tiempos modernos" (1936) de Charles Chaplin. Pablo Echart. Tiempos modernos ("Modern Times", 1936, EE.

Yeah, not as good of a title after writing it down as it was in my head but you get the idea. Daniel Norton dug himself out of the OD&D hack long enough to catch up on many of the past podcasts and he had a few words for me. Enough words for his own show. This week on The Past, The Promise, The Presidency, we are exploring a tragic national crisis that hits very close to home in 2021. The crisis of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Having lived through two years of a new coronavirus pandemic, we all intimately understand just how confusing and terrifying it can be for patients, doctors, and yes, presidents to confront a new and deadly disease. One of unknown origin, transmission, and incubation. Indeed, the only thing doctors could say with real confidence in the early 1980s about the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome is that those who got it died.We have gathered three guests to help us understand the Reagan Administration's lethargic response during the early days of the AIDS epidemic. We also explore the key roles of patients, activists, and healthcare workers who pushed the US Government to do more to combat the AIDS epidemic.First we spoke to Dr. David Oshinsky, Pulitzer Prize winner, and director of Division of Medical Humanities at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and a professor in the NYU Department of History. We then spoke to Dr. John Graybill an infectious disease specialist who was quite literally on the front lines of the first battles against this new virus in the early 1980s.And finally, we spoke to Dr. Jennifer Brier, Professor of History and Gender and Women's Studies at the University of Illinois, Chicago. An award-winning public historian and activist, she is the author, among other works, of Infectious Ideas: U.S. Political Responses to the AIDS Crisis.Together they helped us understand a moment when public health ran headlong into presidential politics.Maybe that sounds familiar. All right, let's get to it.

Episode Description: On this week's episode, the Duchess of Rutland speaks with Lady Northampton who is a custodian of two historic homes: Compton Wynyates & Castle Ashby. In the show, the Duchess learns how one of Henry's VIII's closest confidants helped build the Spencer family line, Lady Northampton elaborates on why Compton Wynyates is such an architecturally unique place, and we are introduced to the unpublished female poet that was admired by Wordsworth and Sir Walter Scott. Top Quotes: "I'm very keen on creating a harmonious atmosphere in these incredible places. I like to think that I create an atmosphere at Compton where the staff and team there feel like we are all part of one family." - Lady Tracy Northampton "In heritage, it's so integral that you retain the essence of what you are, what you believe in, what you stand for. If you lose your roots as a human being you can't fulfil the role because the role is not true to who you are." - The Duchess of Rutland "When you look at some of these portraits they seem so austere and fixed and far away from how we are now. But they have a soul." - The Duchess of Rutland About the Guest and Stately Home: Lady Tracy Northampton is a trained psychotherapist and yoga teacher. She married her husband, Spencer Compton, 7th Marquess of Northampton in 2013. The couple live full time in Compton Wynyates which is an extremely well preserved Tudor Mansion. Unlike all other homes in the series, Compton Wynyates is not open to the public. Compton Wynyates is a Tudor country house in Warwickshire, England, a Grade I listed building. The Tudor period house is constructed of red brick and built around a central courtyard. Compton House was erected by Sir William Compton c1520, allegedly on the site of an earlier Tudor building. The early 16th century house is now considered one of the best examples of the picturesque irregular Early Tudor style in England. In 1572, Elizabeth I stayed in the house. In 1617 James I spent a night at the house. Compton was also visited by Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon during the early years of the king's reign. Over the entrance the Royal Arms of England are supported by the dragon and greyhound of Henry VII and Henry VIII. Today, Compton is the home of Lady Tracy and Spencer Compton. In the nearby village, the couple have a pub-hotel called The Falcon they own and run together. Wynates is the birthplace and burial place of Spencer Compton, 1st Earl of Wilmington, considered to be the second Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Compton Wynyates was also the inspiration for Croft Manor in the Tomb Raider series. About the Host: Emma Rutland, The Duchess of Rutland, did not always stride the halls of stately homes. Born Emma Watkins, the Duchess grew up the daughter of a Quaker farmer, in the Welsh marsh countryside. She trained as an opera singer in the Guildhall School of Music, and worked as a successful interior designer before meeting her future husband David Manners, the 11th Duke of Rutland, at a dinner party. Their marriage in 1992 would transform Emma Watkins into the 11th Duchess of Rutland, thrusting her into the world of aristocracy, and handing her the responsibility of one of the nation's great treasures: Belvoir Castle. While simultaneously running the day to day operations of the castle, and raising five children, The Duchess became fascinated with the history and importance of the other stately homes of the UK. Join The Duchess as she embarks on a wonderful journey through time, to learn more about the incredible homes that have defined Great Britain and, most importantly, meet the other extraordinary women who work tirelessly behind their doors to preserve their history and magic for future generations. Freelancers often ask: How do I get a client to pay an invoice that's past due? Instead of a how to on chasing payments, today we're asking and answering a better question: How do you get clients to pay you on time in the first place? If you've had more than one late-paying client in the past few years, following the actions recommended in this episode can shake up the way you approach billing. I share some very practical things you can do straight away to break a cycle of late payments and improve your cash flow. You may find yourself resistant to invoicing sooner than you currently do. If that's the case, it's an indication that you expect clients to pay you late. Follow my recommendations in this episode for a 90-day experiment to assess what happens when you're not the one slowing down your own payments. You can expect these things to happen: 1. You will experience discomfort when it's time to invoice sooner. That's what always happens when you step outside the familiar comfort zone. We can expect and anticipate that you'll come up with some compelling reasons why not to do this. This doesn't mean anything has gone wrong; it's something to observe while sending the invoice out. 2. You will have zero pushback or negative response from your clients. 3. You will be paid more quickly by some of your clients. 4. You will establish or deepen your belief and expectation that you deserve to be paid promptly. Here's a PDF that goes along with this episode. It recaps the steps I cover in the podcast, plus includes what to include in your invoice and what to do if the client doesn't pay in 30 days.
