The Joint Readiness Training Center is pleased to present the one-hundredth-and-fifteenth episode to air on ‘The Crucible - The JRTC Experience.' Hosted by MAJ Marc Howle, the Brigade Senior Engineer / Protection Observer-Coach-Trainer, and MAJ David Pfaltzgraff, BDE S-3 Operations OCT, from Brigade Command & Control (BDE HQ) on behalf of the Commander of Ops Group (COG). Today's guests are two senior members of JRTC that most units coordinate with but rarely see in-person: MAJ Jacquelin Marrero and MAJ Brandon Kilthau. MAJ Marrero is the G-4 Sustainment Officer at the Joint Readiness Training Center's headquarters. MAJ Kilthau is the S-3 Operations Officer for Plans / Exercise Maneuver Control. Plans/EMC plan, resource, and supervise the rotations from start to finish. (Think of the man behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz.) This episode focuses on the often-overlooked but decisive phase of reception, staging, onward movement, and integration (RSOI) at JRTC. The discussion highlights recurring friction points as units arrive in Torbia—ranging from poor Soldier discipline and lack of acclimatization to the Louisiana heat, to wasted time at staging areas instead of conducting pre-combat checks (PCCs), pre-combat inspections (PCIs), and final system checks. The key message is mindset: leaders and Soldiers must treat RSOI as the beginning of combat, not downtime before the “real” fight. Units that operationalize RSOI—using the time to validate communications, establish sustainment accounts, rehearse movement, and begin integrating attachments—set the conditions for success. Those that view it as a last break or administrative hurdle often find themselves behind before entering the box. The conversation also underscores the importance of coordination with the JRTC G4 to ensure prepositioned (“pre-po”) equipment is properly drawn, maintained, and matched to operational requirements. Many units fail to establish essential accounts for Class I, III, IV, V, and VIII supplies until arrival, creating preventable shortfalls. Best practices include using RSOI to rehearse convoy movements, validate communications architecture with available support, and build relationships with enablers or foreign attachments before moving to the training area. Leaders are encouraged to deliberately involve NCOs in these processes to extend command oversight, enforce discipline, and maximize use of time. Ultimately, the episode frames RSOI as more than an administrative requirement: it is the first tactical problem of the rotation, and units that succeed here carry momentum into the fight.

Real Life Pharmacology - Pharmacology Education for Health Care Professionals
Desmopressin is a synthetic analog of vasopressin, also known as antidiuretic hormone (ADH). It works by mimicking the action of natural ADH on the kidneys, primarily increasing water reabsorption in the collecting ducts. This effect reduces urine production and helps concentrate the urine. Because of this mechanism, desmopressin is commonly used in conditions like diabetes insipidus, nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting), and sometimes for nocturia in adults. It also has a role in certain bleeding disorders, such as mild hemophilia A and von Willebrand disease, since it can increase plasma levels of factor VIII and von Willebrand factor. In this podcast, we will explore desmopressin pharmacology and much more. Desmopressin is available in several dosage forms, including oral tablets, intranasal spray, and injectable formulations. The choice depends on the indication and patient-specific factors such as age, convenience, or the need for rapid effect. Adverse effects of desmopressin are largely related to water balance. Because it reduces urine output, patients are at risk for water retention and hyponatremia, which can lead to headaches, confusion, seizures, or in severe cases, coma. Monitoring sodium levels is especially important in elderly patients and those taking other medications that can affect fluid or electrolyte balance. Clinicians also need to be mindful of drug interactions. Medications that increase the risk of hyponatremia, such as SSRIs, carbamazepine, or certain diuretics, may enhance desmopressin's adverse effects. Conversely, drugs that blunt its activity can reduce effectiveness. Careful monitoring and patient education are key parts of safe use.

Episode Summary:In the third and final chapter of our Star Wars original trilogy series, Scott, Candice, and guests take the mic with a few extra drinks and zero fear of ruffling fanboy feathers. This episode is all about changing canon, fixing missed opportunities, and imagining what could have been in the galaxy far, far away. From rapid-fire “Jedi or Sith” questions to deep dives on Ewok backstories, Captain Phasma fan theories, and why Boba Fett might be overrated, no character is safe. We pitch spin-offs for the underappreciated, debate which moments in The Rise of Skywalker should be rewritten, and even ask the ultimate question—should Episodes VII, VIII, and IX have been made at all?Plus, you'll hear:Which character one host would happily launch out of a cannon. Why the Luke and Leia kiss still gives everyone the ick.A theory that turns Jar Jar Binks into a secret Sith Lord.A surprisingly dark fan theory about Obi-Wan and the fate of Owen and Beru. Our most unpopular Star Wars opinions (brace yourself, purists). It's chaotic, it's passionate, and it's exactly the kind of spirited debate you'd expect from Disney adults who have been drinking since morning. Grab a drink, open your mind, and prepare for some serious Star Wars heresy.Listen now for laughs, hot takes, and maybe a new perspective on your favorite (or least favorite) parts of the saga.

Fitz Hugh Ludlow’s fame as a writer was directly tied to his drug use initially. In his final years, his advocacy for treatment of the illness of addiction was really ahead of its time. Don't Stop Believing, Part 3 A sermon by Pastor Richard Sfameni, Lead Pastor at Victory Church in Providence, RI I. Introduction Welcome and purpose of the podcast: sharing powerful messages from services. Victory Church's mission: reaching the lost, restoring the broken, reviving believers. Call to engagement: readiness to receive the Word of God. Message title: "Don't Stop Believing" (better phrased as "Keep Believing"). Central theme: The necessity and critical importance of living by faith. II. The Nature and Gift of Faith Biblical definition: Faith as the “substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). Faith is confidence in God's promises and His character. Every believer has a “seed/measure” of faith—faith given by God (Romans 12). Faith as a muscle: grows stronger through use, challenges, and spiritual exercise. Warning against comparing levels of faith among believers. Personal testimony: growth through spiritual trials and resistance, analogy to physical training. III. The Importance of Faith (Scriptural Emphasis) Essential for pleasing God: “Without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6). Two elements: belief that God exists and that He rewards those who seek Him. Faith is required in every circumstance; God knows individual limits and provides grace for endurance. IV. Faith as the Primary Metric in the Church Examination of Paul's concern for faith in the church (1 Thessalonians 3). Paul's repeated focus on the faith of the congregation rather than external measures. What Paul didn't emphasize: not the size, budget, or facilities of the church. Critique of cultural (non-biblical) values in assessing church success. Dangers of equating “bigness” or material signs with spiritual greatness. Examples: 85% of American churches have fewer than 200 people, illustrating that size is not the key measure. Example from church history: Charles Spurgeon's conversion in a small chapel, demonstrating greatness is about spiritual impact, not size. V. Keeping Faith Central The importance of keeping “the main thing the main thing”—focus on the growth and exercise of faith. Individuals and churches must prioritize spiritual metrics over worldly metrics. VI. Lessons from the Heroes of Faith Review of “the cloud of witnesses” in Hebrews 11-12. Faith exemplars: those who faced challenges and saw God's faithfulness. The value of biographies/autobiographies of Christians for practical insights into a life of faith. Example: George Mueller's dependence on faith for provision. Recognition of current church members as examples of faith and faithfulness. VII. Hindrances to Faith Identifying and “laying aside every weight”: Bitterness, unforgiveness, distractions, and past failures. Analogy of running a race: shed anything that slows spiritual progress. Biblical example: Paul “forgets what is behind and presses on.” The need for “divine forgetfulness” and remembrance of what matters (the cross, God's promises). VIII. Perseverance of Faith Faith requires perseverance, endurance—keep moving forward despite obstacles and struggles. Examples of perseverance from secular figures (Walt Disney, Einstein, Churchill, Lincoln) to illustrate endurance. Claim: with the Spirit of God, believers have even greater potential for perseverance. Encouragement for listeners to resolve to succeed and trust in God's enabling power. IX. The Focus of Faith: Fixing Eyes on Jesus The source and goal (“author and finisher”) of faith is Jesus. Spiritual direction comes from focusing on Christ—not on people or circumstances. Analogy: Just as a runner focuses on the finish line, Christians must fix their gaze on Jesus. Biblical example: Peter walking on water by looking at Jesus, sinking when distracted by the storm (Matthew 14). Isaiah 26:3—Perfect peace comes from “mind stayed on Thee.” Hymn: “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” used to reinforce the point. The danger of spiritual distraction; importance of continual refocusing on Christ. X. The Cross as Spiritual North Point Story: Beach analogy—currents can pull us off course unnoticed, requiring realignment. The cross of Christ as a central, guiding reference for believers. Regular course corrections are necessary due to “the currents” of worldly distractions and sin. Importance of always coming back to Christ and the cross. XI. Application and Call to Action Self-examination: Is your faith growing? Are you focused on Jesus? Urge to lay aside distractions/weights and make the necessary spiritual adjustments. Invitaton for reflection, response, prayer, and renewed commitment as the service closes.
