Dr. Werb emphasizes the importance of viewing cities as living, thriving ecosystems and the need for human ecosystem-based solutions for the good of humans and animals alike in these ecosystems.   Key Takeaways: Humanity has a much higher risk of experiencing viral spillover events now than before, because we are increasingly intersecting with wild animals that we have never seen before in urban spaces that carry pathogens that we've never been exposed to before. As humans, we have a relationship with synanthropes that is so deep and long-standing that it has become central to our spiritual selves as well.  With more small animals being drawn into cities, that is going to continue to draw in more predators, such as coyotes, which have expanded their home range by about 50 kilometers per year for the last 150-200 years. It may be impossible to eliminate any synanthrope that has found an ecosystem within a city. Even if you remove one creature from an area, the niche they had developed will still be there ready for the next synanthrope to move in. Dr. Sara Werb joins host Dr. Joel Berg for a deep dive into behavior management. The duo discusses the importance of maintaining an individualized approach to behavior management. A former teacher, Dr. Werb shares tools she's applied to create a “curriculum” for her patients, not only educating them on oral health but also to be more comfortable in the chair. Dr. Werb also shares what she's learned from her more recent move into lecturing, which she credits with building her community within organized dentistry. Guest Bio: Dr. Sara Werb was born and raised in Toronto. She completed an Honors bachelor's in science at the University of Toronto and received her master's in education from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. There, she conducted research in creating a high school program that allowed female students to excel in STEM. During her Master's, she won a bet and had her dental school application to the University of Toronto paid for. She completed a pediatric dental residency at Jacobi Medical Center where she received extensive training in various behavior management techniques along with training in the treatment of special needs patients, pediatric medicine rotation, pediatric emergency room, and anesthesia.  Upon completing her residency Sara moved back to Toronto to work at various dental offices, while building her own practice WERBDentistry. In 2021 she sold her practice to Altima Dental/123 Dentist.    Dr. Sara has served on staff at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, as a clinical instructor at the Faculty of Dentistry in Toronto and as assistant professor at the University of Western Ontario. She is also on staff at Mount Sinai Hospital, both teaching and supervising dental residents.  She is a Key-Opinion Leader for NuSmile, travelling across North America teaching other dentists advanced techniques in Pediatric Dentistry   She has lectured at various dental conferences, volunteered with the Ontario Dental Association, and frequently visits classrooms and daycares to teach oral health. Dr. Werb is the outgoing President of the Ontario Society of Pediatric Dentists and on the Finance Committee for the Canadian Academy of Pediatric Dentistry     Dr. Werb has published research on dental education, and on the link of Adverse Childhood Experiences with Enamel Anomalies. In her spare time, Dr. Werb takes ballet classes, travels, builds Lego and experiments with cooking new recipes.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

You are on the right URL at the right time on another program of East to West, and this is Eitan Battat. I don't know about you, but for me, time is passing at warp speed. So many things are happening all around, and information is coming at you nonstop from everywhere. In between all the chaos and the daily routine in our business, so much pain and so much suffering. We all as humanity are so far removed from most of the pain that doesn't really apply to us or not in our neighborhood, or not in or around our immediate circles. On one hand, if they will be affected by all the pain and suffering in the world, how could we ever find one moment of joy? On the other hand, we are oblivious to almost everything that's happening unless it has an immediate effect on our lives. Take, for example, the bridge collapse in Baltimore. When somebody speaks about it, you hear, “Oh my God, it's terrible. Wow. It was a six-lane highway! What did you want for lunch?” I'm sorry, but we immediately move on to whatever is important at that particular moment. About a dozen people perished in that disaster. Never mind the half a million people that their commute to work has now been affected for an extra hour or two, who knows? We see it doesn't affect us, so we are not concerned, it's somebody else's problem.  7 Humanitarian aid workers got killed by mistake in Gaza. Oh wow, that's terrible. We move on. It doesn't affect us. We can't change that. That's humanity. However, I'm suggesting that the near and dear to be a lot more sensitive to our surrounding, be aware and be kind. You never know when your words, your donation, your smile can really cheer and change someone else's pain. All in addition to finding joy with everything that we do. I hope you find some joy and some solace with some smooth new music that I got for you right here on East to West and my reflection on kindness. You're on a special program of East to West, and this is Eitan Battat. Hello, my friends and family, happy to say that we are going to be celebrating somewhat the anniversary, the birthday of WERB. It's also the 3rd anniversary of East to West and I thought initially that I will bring the best of the best of East to West on this anniversary program. But then again, when I start compiling the best songs of East to West, I ended up with over 100 songs and that was not practical for two hours program. It's been quite a ride over the past three years as you will be able to tell from the stories I'm going to tell you about how we started and also I'm going to bring you some voices that supported PJ and myself to get to where we are today. PJ, my partner, and myself had to use a lot of creativity, focus, effort. That and a lot a lot of passion. After all, this radio station is truly just a passion project. It was not made for profit. It was not made to capture audience, to be an influencer, to be a political platform or otherwise. You're just a huge, huge sandbox to play. It just grew and grew, and now it has a life of its own. If I'm not fly fishing or making fly fishing videos or content myself, one of the most enjoyable things for me to do is watching beautiful fly fishing movies from amazing producers.  That's the core behind the Fly Fishing Film Tour, also known as F3T.  It was a real privilege for me to sit down with Charles Werb of Adventure Entertainment.  Among other things, Charles and his team are now running the Fly Fishing Film Tour. On a massive, world-wide showing tour, F3T delivers some of the best fly fishing films in the world. Charles was born in Australia and now resides in Dubai.
