    Youth with a history of foster care report more oral health problems and less access to oral health care than their peers with no history of foster care. Dentists should recognize the oral health concerns of these youth in the context of their special health care needs and be prepared to render appropriate care. Future studies should explore barriers to oral health care among this vulnerable population. Youth in foster care have self-identified oral health care needs that should be assessed by dental professionals.     Dr. Kristi Linsenmayer tells the story of her journey from practice general dentistry at the Seattle Indian Health Board for 10 years, after deciding to become a pediatric dentist. She is the recipient of a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) K02 grant for public health studies and research of and coordination of interprofessional education and practice at NYU. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and serves as a consultant and grants reviewer for the AAPD. Her research interests are in the integration of social work and dentistry, HPV Vaccination Anticipatory Guidance, Sugar Sweetened Beverage Policies, MIH, and molar substitution. She completed her B.A. in psychology at Barnard College, doctoral training at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, and post-doctoral training at Boston Children's Hospital. She is currently completing her MPH part-time at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. In this podcast, Kelsey shares how she turned her shock, despair, and grief into saving another's life through donating her bone marrow - on the one-year anniversary of her mother's death. She has become a national spokesperson for the bone marrow registry. Recorded during suicide awareness and prevention month, Kelsey tells us what we can do to follow her lead in wellness, self-care, and in helping others.
